[Q] when I download a zip file it shows as .bin - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have asked this question in the rom section but I guess it got overrun
Anyway the problem I am having when I use any HTC Sense rom and if I download file using the browser on the phone say for example abc.zip the file download as 1.bin
Can someone please explain how to correct thin problem or it a known short coming of all htc sense rom I do not have this issue with defrost rom.
Many Thanks

I havent got a clue how to stop it doing it but after its downloaded just use your file explorer to change the extention to apk then you can run it

There is some information on this thread it seems like few others where having the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744544&highlight=nzb

For me renaming it after the download does not work. What works, though, is renaming it before the download has started, when the browser displays the download confirmation window. Then simply change the extension from .bin to .zip. I'm using Samsung J500FN.

[Q] how to push bootanimation.zip into oxygen rom?

oxygen has second boot screen until "update-oxygen-1.0.1-signed",so i want to push bootanimation.zip into oxygen rom,i did like this..i built a file under data\local ,then i put the "bootanimation.zip" into the file ,then signed it,but i have always failed,i need somebody's help.......
i am a rookie and i does not know many english words, please forgive me,
What I always do is to open up the .rar (not unzipping it, but really just double click it), and poke around until I find the folder where the bootanimation.zip is.
Then I delete that .zip, and then using WinRar, click "Add" on the top left, and selected your desired bootanimation.zip, all of this WHILE still in the same folder where the original bootanimation was in.
When done, just sign it, then flash it as you would a normal Rom.

thank you for replying my post~
i have another question ,that is , i did not find "bootanimation.zip " in the oxygen rom ,maybe i did not find it in the right place, but oxygen rom did not have a folder called data/local...
Right, Oxygen seems to be a new breed of ROMs (hence, the no data/local), which I honestly haven't have the luxury of time to try yet (damn, lol).
Anyway, if you searched the oxygen thread, this post would have come up.
Try it and see
It's in /system/media
If you are S-OFF you can just adb push C:\asd\asd\asd.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip while the phone is running.
Otherwise you need to do it in recovery.
But wm's method is really the easiest way if you want to change your bootanimation before you have flashed an update.
While I'm at it: could you guide me to a thread/site where I can find infos regarding signing zip files? I only found really old threads :S
Thank you.

I cannot remember the creator of the program, but I used this thing called autosign.bat, which I got off the xda forum.
I'm sure you can find it around somewhere in the forum.

actually,i did it in this way, first, you need have the program called java, after you download it ,you have to set a java's environment which you can search it by yourself, attention: if you do not know much java languages ,advice you to install it in the default location. second, you need a Auto-sign tool which you can also find it by searching in xda. Then you should unzip the Auto-sign.rar under anywhere you can find it .
After you have done all of these, you can make your own rom !(all of the work below is in the unzipped folder called Auto-sign)
put the rom you have reformed into the folder called "Auto-sign",then ,you need to rename the rom to "update",after that ,double click it the Sign.bat in the folder, wait for awhile, you will get another rom called "update_signed",it is the rom you can flash into your Desire. English is not my mother tongue, if you can not understand what i have said, please reply me with simple and exact words, then, we can communicate with eachother.

[Q] Adding sound to an existing bootanimation

Ok so i'm just wondering if there is a way to go into an existing bootanimation file and add a wav file into the sequence of the description text file. And also where would you put the wav file in the zip file. Also can you do this without using ADB, not a big fan of it(meaning I don't know how to use it) It should just be as easy as throwing the file in the zip file and writing the new description text code to run it properly. Just I don't know how. please help
What ROM are you on? How did you get your current boot animation onto your phone w/o adb?
I used Ava-froyoZ2, and for the bootanimation i downloaded one put it on the root of my sdcard and then using root explorer i moved that file to /system/customize/resources then pasted it in there. So all i need to know is how to put a wav file in the bootanimation zip file and write the description text so it'll execute that file.
It's not a wave file it's mp3. It is also not part of the bootanomation zip, it is its own file. Search the forums for pushboot and use that. You should learn to use adb because from your questions in here you more than likely will boot loop your phone and have to nand restore just to get out of it. I have fixed bootloops with adb many times and I now only keep a solid backup of my rom once every 2 weeks.
Ok, secondly; With that rom or if it even is the rom, it doesn't allow me to put my phone in debugging. I have ADB blah blah blah just i'm not that good with CMD, but it never recognizes my phone due to that fact of the debugging. When I go into the settings I can check it and uncheck it. So I don't know what that problem could be.

Install zip-files

On my rooted Defy - how do I install a zip-file??
Like this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12426274&postcount=24
install the 2ndinit apk 1.4.2 newer ones wont work with some files
then reboot 2 times.
third reboot: press volume down, when the led is blue.
now choose recovery by pressin vol up or down and power to accept.
then choose costum recovery, and apply zip from sd. choose your file and confirm.
done
hope this answers your question
Thanks, seems simple enough
uh, where do I find 2ndinit.apk
You can find it here.
I know how to install .zip but I have a question. CWM3.1 does not flash some .zip like a baseband or a theme. It says "aborted". I think that the problem is that the file is not signed or something. In CWM2.5.1.8 works but the problem is that CM7 or MIUI changes it to CWM3. So, what should I do?
Thanks!
Works fine, even the mentioned zip-file!
The "issue" is that the latest CWM3.x no longer support "amend scripting" (stored in update-script) and won't apply zip's created with such scripts. Therefore all .zip which where written using the old method should be converted to edify scripting (which use different statements - more details here-).
is there an way to downgrade the 2ndinit? an how-to would be very nice
You can replace the recovery file from /system/bootmenu/recovery/sbin with the one from 2nd init 1.4.2 . The file persimmon should be rwxr-xr-x (755).

and how do i do that? with rootexplorer? what for do i need the file permission? to change it or to set it after changing the files?
Yup. You can replace it using an app like root explorer. And the file permission should be set up after you copy the file (if you have the wrong file permission it won't work).
EDIT: I haven't tried yet to downgrade it this way but that's what I've read on the forum, therefore I cannot guarantee you it will work.
sry for me being a noob. i found the file named recovery in the folder you mentioned. but have got only the file 2ndinit.apk..... where do i get the recovery file from 2ndinit.apk ?
thank you for your time!
You can unpack it using a tool like Apk Manager 4.9 or simply by using 7zip to extract the files from the apk which is in fact some sort of archive. However as I've mentioned in the previous post I didn't tried to downgrade using this method. All I can say is that I've read here on xda about this method, therefore I cannot guarantee you this will work. I think is better to wait someone with more experience to answer.
As an unexperienced user i think i'll wait for a better solution.
As i read, this problem appears quite often, how come that nobody tried to make a solution for this problem?

[Q] Error [240] file open This is STUPID

I Read and Read and Read. The surprising part is that, what I need the most there is no video nor any instruction to fix the problem.
I'm trying to flash a ROM on my tilt 2 GSM phone.
I have already HSPL it,
I did task 29 using RhodiumWAdvancedRUU.zip because I couldn't get regular task 29 to work.
Now I get a white screen with HTC on it and it doesnt pass it. So I enter bootloader and make sure that at the bottom it shows USB. (yes I do see SPL-0.85. OliNex)
Now I try to install the ROM and here is where the problem starts.
My ROM:
I dled NRG MAXSENSE ROM which is Energy.RHODIUM.29022.Sense2.5.MaxSense.Jul.08.7z
My Rhodium Update Utility (RUU) is
Rhodium_CustomRUU_v1.1.zip
I Open it and I see
CustomRUU.exe
Here is where I don't know what to do. Some instructions say that I need a .NBH file. Where do I get this file. They say it should be with my ROM.
All I get when I dl the ROM is
Energy.RHODIUM.29022.Sense2.5.MaxSense.Jul.08.7z
Format 7z not .nbh
I get the Error [240] File Open when I run CustomRUU.exe. To fix it they say
"When this error message appears, check whether the downloaded image is placed in the DIRECTORY of RUU. If, for some unknown reason, you find that the ROM image is not located in the RUU folder, you have to download the RUU and retry again."
What is the "DIRECTORY" of RUU"? Whats a directory? I never heard that term before.
Of which RUU? CustomRUU.exe?
Do I make a folder and put CustomRUU.exe in it with the Energy.RHODIUM.29022.Sense2.5.MaxSense.Jul.08.7z ?
Where is the .nbh file? Do I rename the ROM IMAGE to .nbh?
Please give me step by step. Ive read so much already and I dont know what to do anymore. Thank you for your help.
-___- I cannot believe I spent all this time for something so dumb. We should put this on the Help for NOOBS thread. The file " .7z " cannot be opened with Winzip. To open the file you have to use WINRAR. And from there we can see the Rhodium_SoftwareUpgrade.exe (RUU) and the RHODIMG.nbh files. And double clicking the Rhodium_SoftwareUpgrade.exe the software will start walking you through the process for flashing. I think it would be a good idea to add on the HOW TO FLASH A ROM that the 7z file requires WINRAR to be opened.
But thanks to the Lord I learned how to flash the Rom successfully.

[Q] having problems with unpacking root files.

The link below is of the site im talking about, i rooted my note 4 no problem before with this and im doing someone else phone. I downloaded the root files, go to extract and i get error and it wont do it. tried it 3 times on 2 computers same result. suggestions?
had to put a space before (.com) so it didnt show up as a link.
androidxda .com/root-samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910p-sprint
Open the archive with 7zip or winwar and drag the files to an folder/location titled appropriately, like root or Odin under a main folder like SM-N910.
Thanks, i will try that when i get home. Just odd it worked fine when i did mine and now it says its corrupt.
No go with 7zip.
Chain Fire has a policy against redistributing his work. When I go to his thread and follow the link, I end up with the link below.
http://download.chainfire.eu/585/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-trltespr-trltespr-smn910p.zip
Also, no md5 to verify a good download. I'd suggest the proper link from this thread and use a PC to download. Maybe the source or bad download is what you're dealing with? You did try open archive and select all, drag to suggested folder, right? Don't recommend extraction; just double-click Odin, once folder is created, to execute and pick the file as directed in the thread below.

Thanks, i actually just found that about 30 mins ago and it worked great. saved that page for future use if i help anyone else to root there phone. been coming to this site for years very rarely do i have to post cause everything i ever need to know is on here somewhere.
