Quick question. So if I have a new evo with new hboot and I rooted using the s-off method, what roms am I safe to use. I read that it needs to use stock kernel? Does this mean I cannot use cm6? Im fairly new to all of this so I appreciate any advice. Im using fresh right now since it uses stock kernel. What would happen if I used cm6? Just no cam? And if i do need a stock kernel, can i not overclock? I loved cm6 on my hero so I'm just wondering what the deal is... thanks!

Just wondering if anyone knew or had any educated guesses as to when the first android 2.3 based roms would be available. And also how well do you think they will run?
From the lack of nightlies these past few days, I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing Gingerbread on Cyanogen soon.
That would be cool. Im very excited. Jusy started flashing roms a couple days ago. I used Cyanogen but I had trouble finding the market in it to dl apps, otherwise it seemed very fast and stable. Im currently using Myn's rom I hope he puts out a 2.3 version soon.

If you had trouble finding the Market in Cyanogen, you must not have flashed the GAPPS zip file after you flashed the rom. You have to flash both to have market access.
There are already gingerbread roms in the development section. At least one is fairly close to being a daily driver.
I will have to try out the Cyanogen mod again and flash the GAPPS zip file, I didnt know about that, thanks a lot for the help.

This is exactly what you are looking for. And I highly recommend it as I have used it for over a month with no issues at all.
Read up on this link and go for it. It is just like stock but very fast.
You can also flash a new kernel which I also recommend from pershoot.

Just curious as to why you specifically didn't want Cyanogenmod?
When I first got my first android phone I really didn't think I'd ever need anything more than a rooted stock rom, but after trying CM6 (which was the latest at the time), I never wanted to be on a stock ROM. CM really gives you the feeling of the stock rom (I even just install the stock launcher instead of ADW) but with tons of useful improvements in speed, battery life, and usability.
Not trying to persuade, but just wonderin I always keep a rooted stock 2.2 backup just in case, but I've been using CM7 as my daily for couple weeks now and its great.

Pretty sure Swype is an open beta now you can install it on CM7...
Hey all,
I have a stock 2.3.3 device and I was elated to see that there is now a root for it. My question: The main reason that I want (need) to Root is that 2.3.3 broke ActiveSync and I can no longer sync my calendar / email (hitting this like many others).
My point is, I'd like to go back to 2.2 but am honestly not sure if there is a way even if it's just using the base image. I'd like to go to a custom ROM but most of them are updating and until Google fixes 2.3.3, I want to stay Froyo.
Any thoughts?
Root and then flash a stock rooted rom of 2.2 i believe that's all u need to do

Hm, I guess I wasn't ware that Myn's hadn't made the 2.3.3 jump - before I unrooted I had used that ROM.
Thanks, I'll give it a go!

I actually have Synergy on my SD but have to leave for a business trip so can't play too much. I am going to try it when I get back.

Anyone else have suggestions for a 2.2 based rom? I flashed Synergy but really need to be able to sync my corporate email.
Any 2.2 rims with sense 2.1+?

WarmZ and MikZ are both Sense 2.0 and 2.2 Froyo. As they are ports.... No 4G.

I was wondering if I could flash starburst Rom and then flash the stock kernel w/clockwork instead of the Lostkernel (yes there is someone on the forums with recompiled stock kernel with clockwork), is starburst compatible with stock kernel? I am a little new to this, I have rooted EVO 4g and a Nexus s 4g but some of the issues with the Epic touch have kept me from trying out different roms and kernels. Thank you and sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, I could not find the answer.
Lol yes.......
