Roaming problems - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I rooted and began flashing roms, I am no longer able to use roaming services. My phone connects to roaming networks just fine but when I try to place a call, I am greeted by an automated message by Verizon that says " we're sorry, we are currently unable to authenticate your phone" sms doesn't work while roaming as well as data services. Anyone else get this problem? Or is this something I take up with Sprint.

sprint has to fix that. call them and tell em what it's doing. seen a lot of people have same problem rooted or not.

Thanks. Will do.

Can anyone help with a 3g problem

For some reason any internet browser I try with 3g wont work at all. I have also noticed that 3g isnt working with any application. The symbol appears but nothing works. I have tried reflshing and updating the profile and PRL but no luck. Can anyone help me out please.
I'm also having a near nonexistant 3g ever since PRL update.
my PRL won't update
but I noticed Sprint was acting strangely last night
and it was effecting Sprint/Nextel/Boost as a whole
I think something is still up, because my texts are lagging
and when I make phone calls it takes like 10-15 seconds for me to hear it ring
and I know it's not just my phone. my cousin's Boost was the doing the same
as well as my friend Yesenia's Sprint
Sounds like a radio issue. Do you keep getting roaming warnings?

WISPR login failed at mcds?

Does anyone know what this is and why it could be failing constantly? After I get the message it fails, I can't even go into the browser and accept the terms and conditions like you normally would to get internet. Kind of irritating, since I rely heavily on wifi connections for data since I no longer get good service in my area (I used to get full bars) I've only been able to use Google wallet once due to the poor service.

I have the same problem. It works fine with my home network, but not in my office. I can't control that network. Another colleague with the AT&T Galaxy S3 doesn't have any problems connecting to this network. Seems to be a Sprint problem. Even the message that pops up has a Sprint logo.
what worked for me is to turn off the sprint connections optimizer. Everything works a lot better now and no more errors for me.

serious issue! data loss

first i got to send my apologies to kootz (sp?) because i thought it was only doing it on their rom when i just happened to be i was on their rom the couple times it has happened. i thought cm10 didnt do it because immediately i would flash that and data was back. it happened today while running cm10. suddenly i have no data connection i can talk and text but no data. even after reboot no data no i can connect to wifi. what i did this time was go to titanium back up i erased the data for "input devices 4.1.1 blh blah blah" and data kicked back on.......anyone else having this issue???? i don't know if it's doing it on the stock rom as i have not been on it for quite some time.......anyone else??
even when i toggle data off and on it still stays off but the phone acts like data is off only thing that can be done is talk and text.
You can actually confirm that you have mobile network connectivity period?
As in, you're sure you can talk?
When I lose data from LTE -> 4G/HSPA+ ... then I lose everything. It looks like I can call, I have full bars, albeit no logo, but I can't actually place a call. I get the 'Emergency Calls Only' message, OR 'No Network Found' depending on Rom.
Either way, no solution....yet.
Also, I'm on Bell Network, currently running Ariel 2.08 Stock. (ATT-based I believe).

I have the exact same issue with my Telus SGS3. Even when running on stock ICS, even before rooting, I had the issue as mentioned above. I sent it out for repairs under warranty and Samsung claimed it not to have any faults and they just reflashed and sent it back claiming it passed all tests. I asked Telus to send it back again because it came back with it stuck on the Samsung logo. There has to be a solution to this or Samsung should at least fix it.

Roaming Issues: Upgraded from Evo 4g to Galaxy S3

I just upgraded from the Evo 4g (good bye old friend) to the Galaxy S3. I've already noticed significant decreases in coverage which I understand is to be expected until all towers have been upgraded appropriately. The main problem I've been noticing is that when I go into roaming (which is covered on my plan) I lose voice. If I'm on the phone it disconnects me and if I try to make a call I get a "busy tone" or an automated message about making a collect call. I assume that's because I'm not provision properly to make calls on networks other than Sprint? Every time I call technical support, they think a simple reprogram will fix it, but it hasn't yet. Does anyone have experience with this, so that when I call them I can "suggest" what they may need to do in order to fix it?
Tell them that the reprogram didn't work
Also mention calling them a few times
There is also the can u talk to a superior/supervisor card (usable multiple times per call) and then there is the I'm returninf this phone and leaving Sprint last resort bluff card

I literally tried all those options. Spoke with a supervisor and he still sounded like he had no clue. They said I will need to take my phone in to a tech to check it out. I doubt it's the phone though. It happens when I go into roaming, so it sounds to me like there's something wrong with the way they set up my s3. The nearest tech is 30+ min away and I'd love to avoid making that trip.
As of now, I am still getting the roaming message. It says "If you'd like to make a collect call press 1...." Has anyone ever gotten this message while roaming?
I have gotten this message when I dial out using various PRL's. Try updating your PRL. Maybe there are no roaming agreements in your area? Check your settings?

I've never had this problem on the Evo 4g. Would it have something to do with the fact that the GS3 doesn't search for the same towers as the Evo 4g and other older smartphones? I'm currently on 25010. How can I check if there are no roaming agreements in my area and wouldn't those have affected my Evo as well?

Check Settings/More settings/Roaming/Roaming settings and Roaming guard. Sometimes those items come misconfigured.

I am on CM 10.1 Nightlies right now. Although, I've had the problem on stock as well. I've looked for comparable settings in CM, but don't see anything about Roaming Guard. Do I need to revert back to stock to ensure these are configured properly? Last I checked...everything had a check mark next to it. What does roaming guard do exactly anyway? Just prevent me from roaming?

Try this if you like:
1) Nand backup,
2) Flash tw rom,
3) Settings/System update/Update profile,
4) Settings/System update/Update PRL,
5) Go to Settings/More settings/Roaming,
6) Set Roaming network to Auto,
7)Set Roaming settings to roam on domestic voice and data (on),
8) Set Roaming guard to off for domestic voice and data.
Now go to a place where you don't have any Sprint signal but think that there should be a roaming network signal.
If roaming doesn't work, it's likely that something is wrong with provisioning.
If it does, then restore nand backup and try in CM10.
And I don't really know what Roaming guard does, but I think it asks you for a confirmation before switching to a roaming network.
Reverted to stock and flipped off the roaming guard. Then restored my cm 10.1. I can finally make calls while roaming! Thanks for your help.

Restricted data

Got a message on my phone earlier today saying "Restricted access changed. Data service blocked."
Have unlimited data plan, and no data limit set my phone, did some trouble shooting with T-Mobile, they're figuring a tower issue, but I've been all over a few cities now, and keeps doing it. They told me to set phone to GSM only (2G) and that works, but slow of course.
Tried setting the data limit to on and it's set at 100gb or some such thing I'll never reached and worked about hour before the message showed up again...
Any thoughts or ideas on how to get this working right? Because I really doubt it's a tower issue

Have access to a different phone? Try your sim in another phone,...or put someone elses sim in your phone to see if its the phone itself.
I don't since they changed the SIM card style from my last phones. Turns out tmobile sent out some texts to people last week saying that they were doing tower upgrades and to expect data issues. I never got that one and it seems like tech support clueless about too...surprise
