I'm sure there is a hack to hide the pop up notification which is displayed for about 5 secs when you receive a message
It's a bit embarrasing if you have the phone on the dashboard for satnav and then a private text is summarised as it arrives
All i want is the incoming tone and symbol - not the message sender and text displayed
Hide SMS notification
To hide the pop up notification:-
go to start, then settings, then click on sounds & notifications,
from the events dropdown list pick Messaging: New Test Message,
then just tick or untick display message on screen!
also has options for playing sounds and a flashing notification light.
Hope this helps, 1st time i have replied to anyone on this forum
Thanks Wooley - never noticed it there !!! All done now

I have tried the solutions that came up here on a search but none of them work. How ******g hard can it be to stop notifications popping up every 5 ******g minutes??????
I am using Microsoft's own piece of ***t software and, for reasons I won't go into now, I am going to continue using it so solutions, and not recommendations to use other programs, would be extremely well received.
Many thanks
Have you tried Settings | Sounds & Notifications | Notifications and ticking/unticking the desired options for messages?

I have the same problem. I'd love to hear from someone who has actually solved this problem.
Sorry all, but I am confused.
I dont have the popup.
Start - Settings - Sound and Notifications - Notifications Tab, Messaging: New Email message.
Took the ticks out of:
Play Sound
Display Message on screen,
Flash Light
Vibrate
All I get now is a notification on the HTC Home Plugin:
Using toms B&B 4.2, and email through an exchange server.
Hi! I'm using Tom's 4.2 with an Exchange server too. And of course I disabled everything as you suggest. What I get is:
- on HTC home, the count of unread messages.
- an "unread" email icon on the top bar
- a "Notifications" text in the left soft button
- when I click it, a popup appears reminding me I've unread messages, and I have to dismiss it.
All of this is overkill for me. And except the HTC home bit, it's all in the original ROM too, so it's a WM thing, unrelated to Tom's ROM.
What I want is:
- only the unread count in HTC home.
- if it can't be removed, I'd settle for the top bar icon too
- NO notifications about unread email. Save the notifications only for the urgent stuff. I don't want to have to dismiss the popup before I can use my left soft button for other more productive things.
I hope that clears it
Hi,
Just moved from the Desire to the Desire HD and there is one thing that is bugging the hell outta me. I like to have delivery reports turned on for SMS messages, and on the Desire, this was perfect. To see a delivery report, I just held on the message and tapped Delivery report. It would show, Delivered, Failed or Pending. Nice. Non-intrusive.
NOW, on the Desire HD, I've enabled Delivery Reports, BUT, I now get a notification in the Status Bar area and a notification alert, like a new message has come in.
Does anyone know, cause I can't seem to find out how, to disable the Notification of Delivery Reports? I want the reports, but not the "new message" like notification. I hope someone can help, cause in all honesty, this is a deal breaker for me with this phone!
Just moved to DHD fro Desire myself and I cant seem to be able to turn this off..any pointers please.
Thanks in advance.

This is a shame one HTC, if features like this can be taken out if it was already existing in older devices... not to talk of the low Speaker volume...Moving for me seem to be a bad decision.
I have SMS delivery reports turned on but get no notification icon.
This could be because I use SMS Popup app and have turned notifications in the HTC SMS settings (otherwise I would get double notifications).
The main purpose of SMS Popup is to show a pop-up of your SMS (funnily enough!) as you get them, but you can turn that off and just use it to customise your notifications icons and various other tasks. It's very unintrusive and in over 18 months of using it on different phones I've never had a problem with it.
Might be worth a try for you guys...

Also good for those suffering the dual HTC notification problem.
So... you have delivery reports turned on in HTC's settings right?

I'm pretty much the same. I played around with the Popup part, but don't like it.
In the "Default Notifications" settings in SMS Popup I have the following set:
Show a Popup - OFF
Enable Notifications - ON
Notify on Call - ON
Vibrate - ON (set at 0,350)
Blink LED - ON (Set at "Normal" Blink rate)
I've also turned on Reminders as I tend to miss messages
It's working perfect for me!

Brilliant! It's such a good little app. I originally tried Handcent, Chomp and a few other SMS apps but none were as lightweight, unobstrusive and reliable as SMS Popup. It's so easy to forget you even use it.
Great idea! Thanks a lot !!!!!!!!
Million times TNX for this...
Not ideally working whit sense 3 lock screen, but everything is better then that irritating sound and notification at status bar for report. Why HTC make this idiotic report after that so cool on Desire?? WHY??
Did any of you, or any of developers here on forum try to edit Mms app (Mms.apk)?
I try to find this in it, because if you turn off HTC notification then you no get sms on lock screen. I guess it's in some of these files:
com\android\mms\ui\DeliveryReportAdapter.java
com\android\mms\ui\DeliveryReportItem.java
com\android\mms\ui\DeliveryReportActivity.java
Any one have idea how to find this? I use sense 3.0 Mms.apk
Me too, no clue .. sigh
I dont want to use that popup app, I chose android because of the notification system. How come there is still no fix to this annoying issue?
So, i have following problem when receiving sms :
If i, for example, have more than 5 messages from same person (long enough so i have to scroll from first to last), when i recieve sms from that person, when i open it via notification bar, it switches to first message, so i have to scroll all the way down to last one.
Everything is stock JB...
p.s. It looks like this is only happening if i open that sms from lockscreen directly (by pulling notif bar and opening it). If i do it with unlocking screen, it switches to that (last) message...
Help

Giz: The version of Jelly Bean that we have right now is a developer preview, right?
MD: Yes, it's a developer preview so it still has a few bugs that we know about, and obviously a few that we don't know about, but when the devices actually begin shipping in a few weeks you'll see a lot of additional polish go in.

No real point in posting bugs for a preview release of software NEVER intended for the end user.
Ok - I just feel silly asking this question but whenever I get an sms on the lockscreen I get the sender and some text of the sms (I activated "preview" in the sms app) but if I press that message all I get is an empty box. If I press on the message and pull it downwards I would expect it to expand so that I can read it all but it doesn't. What is the point of the box if you press the message?
Thanks and happy holidays!
