Hey guys, I just got my desire z, love the.phone but i want to make some adjustments.
First, how can i change the application list to scroll side to side, like the galaxy s or the iphone?
Secondly, how can i remove pages off the main screen? I only want one page.

You could install Touch Wiz. But you'd get no Sense widgets.

How do I go about doing this?

I am also interested if anyone knows of any Sense mods or homescreen replacements that have app drawers like TouchWiz. I hate the vertical scrolling. The paged horizontal scrolling seems much more friendly and quicker.

Search for touchwiz3.apk in desire or nexus forums, it is around somewhere.

I tried out touchwiz.. I like some parts of it but hate others. Thanks though.

ADW Launcher has an option for horizontal scrolling rather than vertical scrolling of the app list. It also allows you to customise the number of homescreens - check that out from the Market. You will, however, be unable to use any of the HTC Sense widgets while you are using ADW.

I'll check it out. I've used it in Cyanogenmod.. I didn't like it then (at all). It seems 'rough'. Maybe it's better since I tried it.

Yeah, adw.launcher does about everything you asked. I used it for a day or two, but I personally prefer LauncherPro, it doesn't offer Horizontal scrolling though.

Has anyone tried this??
It's in the top free downloads on the market, and I definitely recommend it!
It has the fly in effect when you open/close an app (a la iPhone) which makes everything feel so much more fluid.
Obviously HTC widgets don't work which is a shame, and its a little buggy being a beta, but you should try it!
Just downloaded it to give it a try. I like it.
The only downside is there is no choice of what to put on the bottom bar. I don't use the people or stock messaging app. If I could change them I'd probably use this over helix 2.
Busy trying it out now - it's extremely quick. I think I'll keep using it for a while, see how it goes.

The standard helix is actually better then this one. Especially in speed and customization

agree,
the only thing thats stopping me from using a launcher is no htc widgets and not being able to customize the grid of icons on the desktop so 4v4 only :<

how can you change the grid of icons in HTC Desire to more than 4 icons ???
Also i think that the Sense launcher is by far the smoothest and the best so far. nothing can beat it in speed, fluencity and HTC widgets.

[Q] How to increase number of rows

Is there any way or tweak to increase number of rows or columns in DHD Sense? I didn't find that option in Settings. I mean something similar you can do using ADW Launcher. DHD screen is big, having just 4x4 icon number is ridiculous. Even if you push all apps button, you can see 5 rows already on the screen.
ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro is not a solutions for me, as then you need to look for various alternative widgets and other stuff, that is already so nicely designed within Sense.
Any clue?

Thanks for prompt answer. It is interesting concept (on the pictures it is used with ADW Launcher) which I can get into during some more creative mood ...Anyway it doesn't have to be solved now (I guess this issue could be one of the reasons ADW and Launcher Pro were ever made), but small neat app just asking something like 4x5 or 5x5 or 6x5, etc... would be so cool.
Decided to use SIMI folders. Not exactly what I was looking for, but still easy and elegant solution.

Well, it is system information tool, I am not looking for such a stuff, need desktop adjustment tool/organizer within Sense UI.
Well, here is some update on solutions which I found in the meantime:
1. this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915472 is exactly what I was looking for, though installation instructions are not easy to follow.
2 Going to try this one http://h9kdroid.com/multicon/, no brainer.

[Q] Stock gingerbread launcher.

Please tell me why people like it? It has 3 non changable icons that stay one color and looks like its out of place compared to the rest of a home screen setup.
Just wondering whats so great about it? Am i missing something?

different strokes for different folks.
It gives more of a stock feeling than ADW. And the trashcan is on the bottom dock, the only reasons I used it, then I moved to ADW for honeybread

I actually think it looks a bit better than adw. It gives more of a clean look.

Because the app drawer is the best app drawer of all of them! Especially with a phone with good graphics!

Isn't the same effect app drawer available on adw and lppro?

Well gb launcher2 is just so much smoother then adw or lp. Home screen scrolling is buttery smooth, and the transition for opening the app drawer is much nicer then the other two. The app drawer cube effect shows 5 rows in the fold compared to the others. Now that I can use themes in CM7 without adw, I use it.
And in the stock launcher the apps in the drawer "bounce" much smoother than LP, not as laggy
I believe i read somewhere on here that the stock launcher is hardware accelerated. That is why is runs faster and smoother.
I personally prefer anything stock. Stock apps seem, to me at least, to be smaller and faster. Try to keep the fluff to a minimum.
I love stock anything! My Nexus One made me love the 3D app drawer, and on my G2, its only smoother! I can't wait to see how smooth a stock dual core Android 2.4 phone from Google is gonna be! The G2x is a good example, however it will be froyo, meaning not fully dual core compatible like 2.4 will be! My guess....Nexus X by Motorola! I can wish, can't I??

I just love that stock vanilla google experience...same when ICS, Jellybean drop...ill stick to stock...no overlays or launchers for me...BTW is there a zip I can flash for the gingerbread launcher over adw in CM7..? (There was one for NS)
Edit: I know there's a couple in the market but those aren't as smooth as the ones in NS Development...

Hey,
I really didn't have to do anything but flash it. I flashed this over the ILWT cm7 rom and it just worked right out of the box (on 187b as well as 204).
I wouldn't know how to improve the performance of the launcher, except for common guesses such as reflashing/wiping and such.
Maybe it's just a different understanding of what "working really well" means. I never did get it to work perfectly buttery smooth, a very tiny lag always remained (even though it was running a lot better than adw).

Couple of q's
How do I get just an individual wallpaper for my lock screen rather than my normal wallpaper??
There's also a screenshot of someone's phone where there app icons are words,I know I change them as I figured that out in a different thread, is there a package for the word icons?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It is known that Sense UI doesn't allow custom lockscreen as it only provides the downloadable package from the HTC server.
The same thing applies to the stock launcher as well. You can't change the icon into words - unless you use third party app launcher and lockscreen such as Launcher Pro and WidgetLocker. By using this app, you can change anything you want, including what you have mentioned just now.
Both apps are available on the Market in free or paid edition.

You can do that on Sense 3.5 (in the personalize menu). I can't remember whether that option was there in 3.0 or below, so it might depend on what ROM you're using at the minute.
Thanks for the replys, sorted wallpaper now onto the widgets, thanks to All

Whats the App Drawer?

I keep seeing people mention the app drawer in ICS. What is this?
Is it just where the apps are stored when you hit the central button at the bottom of the home screen?
yep that's right. coming from iphone I assume?

Come from Sense lol..
I've seen on some launchers, that if you swipe up from the bottom, theres a little "drawer" which contains a few favourited apps. Then you have your main application bit.
Hence why I thought the application drawer might be something different. Never had a pure Android rom before

Android 2.0 and older had an actual drawer that slid out, upward from the bottom of the screen. Name just stuck around.

Ah, that'll be what i'm thinking of!
I actually prefer the old draw-out drawer. Still hoping a custom launcher will implement it but no one appears to share my enthusiasm for it.

I believe the last phone with pure Android and an actual "app drawer" was the original Verizon Droid. Take a look at this video at 1:15 you see why many still refer to the "all apps" tray as the apps drawer.

Edit: to slow searching for a video of the droid...
Does anyone know what is the name of the process of App Drawer? I want to create widget with Minimalistic and don't know which activity to assign to it.
