Camera Zoom CM6.1 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a mod or is it being thought over about adding the zoom feature back into the volume control like on a stock phone? I'm new here to this forum and to this Rom as well although so far I'm loving it great work Devs. Any thoughts? Comments? Just curious as I take a lot of photos as I have a 2 year old daughter and hate carrying around a camera when I have a sweet 8 megapixel camera in my pocket.

You probably want to post over at the CyanogenMod Forums or the CM Issue Tracker to bring this up as a request.

Cm issue tracker where is that at one their site?

camera can be improved!!!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782211
this is a thread from the evo section about improving the camera, it applies to the incredible as well. the camera is capable of being better than the iphone's (see page 4), and if it just needs software then maybe we could get some improvements.
That would be pretty cool

That would be...incredible. Would donate to whoever could make it sound and look better.
quick post just in case development starts!
Ya I really want to see this take off since we have such a sophisticated camera.
I'm a professional photographer. I would like to see an app that will enable the user to manually adjust the cameras f stop and shutter speed...

Nice. I get some pretty decent shots already, looking forward to some improvements!
would love to see these improvements but from reading that thread it seems like its been around for a little while and hasn't shown any developer interest.
Perhaps we can get an Incredible developer to work on this.

hasn't got developer interest because it was moved to q and a for some reason
I assume the reason it hasn't gotten any developer interest is because of the daunting task that it is. Not only is it a lot of work to begin with but they would also have to research and learn about the camera hardware... Sounds kinda nightmarish to me.
That said, it would be a great achievement for the mod community if we could get a modded camera working better than the iphone 4!

FB17 - Zero shutter lag camera

Ok guys - i'm somewhat of a noob.
Obviously the camera in fb17 hasn't changed at all. What are the chances (even if samsung does not update to the galaxy nexus camera app) that it can be ported over to the E4GT with zero shutter lag capability. I mean, afterall the camera specs of the E4GT seem to exceed the galaxy nexus...so why not?
Any educated guesses here?
Thank you in advance.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
great question, frankly.
i wonder if this is something that will change with a final build, as it didn't seem to me that the press release was saying this was a "nexus" feature, but an ICS one....
that being said, and pardon my lack of correct terminology for phone motherboard HW, but it may be something similar to a "chipset" issue, or a CPU/GPU to camera HW communications issue, if this is indeed a HW issue and not simple a missing driver or software update not implemented yet. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the camera HW itself. A 0-lag camera would have to be about either a really well written driver, or a specilized feature of a chip that can communicate the information to the CPU.
You can push it via adb i think ssconceptz did it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
You made some good points...i hope it doesn't end up being a hardware issue...
oh wow...let's hope for the best i guess
Wow, great question, I hadn't even thought of this. I must admit I tried the camera on a Nexus and was kinda jealous. Let's hope for the best!
Its hardware. The Sensor on the Nexus is new and designed specifically to process a picture in a fraction of the time a standard sensor does. In doing this it was not possible to have the sensor as high res (8mp) as the Epic 4G Touch. The Epic Touch actually has a very low shutter response time, and high process time for an 8 MP phone sensor.
Oh maaan that's messed up. I specifically got the E4GT thinking it was a new software feature that got introduced in ICS and since the hardware specs were similar to the galaxy nexus, I didn't think it was going to be a problem...oh well..

I thought the GN had the same sensor as the SGS series...

5 megapixel, not that that matters. But I also don't think it's backside illuminated like the SGS2 and iPhone 4S. Could definitely be wrong about that one.
Does SGSII leaks have instant capture?
Just use "Camera ICS" on the Android Market...
It is the Stock Camera from the Galaxy Nexus as you wanted, but should be compatible.... you must be running ICS I hear....

Interesting...thanks for the tip.
I tested it just new but night zero shutter lag.

just download Fast Burst Camera from the market. it takes 100 somewhat photos in 10-15 seconds... it works for me. im running stock rooted FB17
The problem is that the pics are low res...

Someone said that it's zero shutter lag... sorry
---------- Post added at 02:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:18 AM ----------
Please keep in mind that you are capturing a huge image!!! You are capturing an 8 MEGA pixeel image, you'll nearly never get a COMPLETE ZERO lag...
Another question:
Will 1080p video recording ever work normaly?
I do.t know ebout everybody else because I havent seen no threads on this but my 1080p has "ghosting" and lags on two different Epics and all roms.720p is beautiful but 1080 is useless.I don'teven know why they included that option.
AOSP Camera works fine in FB17 but yes it's hardware related not software. You can try out the ICS theme we just posted for FB17, it has the Camera from AOSP in there.

I think your lag is sd related if your recording to external storage that is slow. I have recorded several soccer games that are at a fast pace and looks perfect in 1080p.
True but the iphone is capable to capture an 8mp picture with zero shutter lag...so....

Front Camera Problem (Mirror)

Hi. I'm new to the forums. Well at least I'm new to posting. I've been referring to these forums for help ever since i got my beloved epic 4g touch 6 months ago. Thanks to all the great people here btw...
The camera on the epic 4g has kind of pissed me off since the beginning with it's incredibly loud shutter (ugh) and the fact that the front camera mirrors after the picture is taken. It looks completely different from the picture I actually intended to take and I came from a crappy t mobile mytouch that didn't have this issue. I mean for most this is not a big problem but it drives me up the wall!
I've read about others complaining about this on the forum so I know I'm not the first...and someone posted about this on here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354648
and their problem was supposedly fixed by ptfdmedics fixed camera apk because it's based on galaxy s2's international camera which has an option to fix this (I guess?) so I rooted my phone just to do this and it doesn't work and makes my camera crash (ugh) I'm guessing because I'm on el29?
So now I'm on blazer rom 4.1 (which I love...so awesome worth the root btw...) and I don't have that annoying shutter sound but I still have the same problem. My question is is there a camera apk for epic 4g touch el29 that fixes it (based on international galaxy s2? or something) or is there a rom that has a camera that fixes it or any fix to this basically and also I would like to stay on blazer if possible. Sorry for the long post...

[Q] cyanogen mod on S4. Camera photo quality downgraded?

Well I'm gonna get straight to the point. Cyanogenmod has downgraded the camera on my Galaxy S4. Photos are significantly noisier and overall lacking in the photo department. I went to Best buy to compare a stock S4 to my CyanogenMod S4 and right there and then my worries were confirmed. Is there any way to keep cyanogen mod and get back the awesome camera quality of the stock S4? The camera downgrade is really getting on my last nerve.
It was the CyanogenMod installed through the play store BTW..
You got a few options
1) ditch CM all together, and use a GPE rom. This is AOSP built by samsung and google. It does not have any of the issues CM has.
now.. some "RDs" on this site insist that the GPE edition roms are TW based, simply because they use the same kernels - this is not true. An adroid 4.3 kernel will work on a 4.3 rom, be it touchwiz, or aosp, and same with Android 4.4
I personally run VirginROM 2.5.4 with a custom kernel that is not allowed on XDA, and my stability is 100%, battery life lasts about 2 or so day with moderate use, and audio/video (what there kernels are known for) rock. These kernels do not overclock, but excel over others that do overclock when it comes to performance.
2) compile the focal camera app yourself and deal with all the CM issues, flaws, and "hybrid" merges...
3) purchased/download a 3rd party app from the google play store

First off, no kidding. This did not need a new thread to be discussed. There are literally a thousand posts abotu camera quality with CM ROMS on the various S4 variant forums. Any search at all would have shown you the answer. Here's an example with posts from less than a week ago that explains this throughly.
Second, if this gets on your last nerve, get rid of CM and return to stock. This is the price of using CM. The camera isn't as good. Complaining about it and acting like CM owes you a better camera is downright rude to the CM team who gives you their ROM for free out of a desire to give a gift to the world. They don't owe you a thing.
The short version to your question abotu getting the CM camera back is simply no.
The long version is...
The issue with the camera in AOSP ROMS is that the stock TouchWiz camera has all kinds of proprietary software driving it. That software is built into different parts of the rom and absolutely requires the TouchWiz framework to run. (Which is also proprietary). You can't just pull the APK out of TouchWiz and install it on AOSP.
So there is no way to get the stock TW camera to run on any AOSP rom.
This means that any other app that is using the camera is using generic software to run the camera hardware. This leaves out the ability to do things that the TW software was specifically written to do like crisp auto focus and color depth and all those goodies that make the TW camera better. All that software was written specificly for the S4 hardware.
The Cyanogen camera or the Google stock camera is just an app using generic software not written specificly for this phone's camera hardware. That's no different than ANY other camera you can find on Google Play. They are ALL using generic software.
As a result, none of them are every going to be as crisp as the TouchWiz camera software. They almost all still take a really good picture with this phone, and many give various effects you might enjoy, but if you are looking the actual stock camera app that takes a higher resolution, better focused picture than the CM camera, you're not going to be able to do it.
Even with all that, the S4 camera hardware with CM camera software It's still better than most other phones on the market.
At the end of the day, it's not a camera that makes phone calls. It's a phone that has a camera in it. If photography is that big of a deal to you, you're never going to be happy with anything other than a true SLR. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you. But please stop complaining about the quality of the free ROM that har dworking developers put together in their spare time and gave to you as a gift with no questions or strings atatched.
Well Said !!
I appreciate the way you explained. :good:

If you could ask One Plus to concentrate on 1 thing, what would it be?

As OnePlus is a smaller company, it's understandable that they may not have the resources to fix all of the bugs, release security updates and work on the Android Nougat update all at the same time.
If you could ask One Plus to concentrate on 1 thing, what would it be?
For me this is easy. Video stabilization is broke at the moment.
Once they fix this, the Android N update would be nice.
For me. I think videos stabilization is acceptable honestly speaking its not that bad. We can co-op with it as being an average user. And for those of them who wants best in class video quality you better invest in something way better as the camera on oneplus is far better then the competition. And there's practically no drawbacks at all, imo. Speaking of which you won't get better than this in just a budget of Rs. 28k or $400. As the given market standard you have to spend almost double for samsung Sony and triple for the apple devices. So taking the compatibility and user experience in consideration. I think i can pick a oneplus 3 on any day. So in my opinion. OnePlus for the given moment should only concentrate on the nougat update. So that oneplus's flagship get some reputation of providing good and fast updates as doing so will enhance the market reputation and add another reason to get oneplus 3 asap. As if they provide an update within this quarter they will have a hefty amount of time to concentrate the video stabilization. As it is usable but there's nothing better than the best. ?

Front Camera quality, it just sucks. You go to a zone with a bit of a low light and the noise is unacceptable. OPO's front cam was miles better than this crap.
Faster WiFi chipsets , or nougat 7.1
7.1
Better digitizer glass
Camera , image quality and UI interface is really lousy. I always accidentally switch photo mode to video mode when try to zoom in or zoom out .

I would ask for a stock camera app that all Roms could use.
Better camera than iPhone and Pixel
No doubt.........Android 7 update. Everything else in this phone is ok according to its price.
Rom flashing to be a lot safer & easy. Not like now, Twrp or firmware needs to be reinstal almost on every time you flash a new rom.
Better LTE, phone signal, camera.
Fix not users issue :highfive: like stabilization
I would love to see improvement of built in apps like gallery, music, shelf, launcher, camera, clock and enabling FM radio. More tweaks and cool useful features.
I.e: alarm clock that plays your favourit FM radio instead of tone / editing a ringtone in music app...

Im happy with everything on my OP3, everything works super well imo.
A well built Android 7 would be great.
As the author of this poll I'm surprised by the results. In other places, there are people that moan that the OP3 is a buggy unsupported mess.
By most users opting for the N update, it proves the device is generally solid and the issues are the minority not the majority of users.

Why?
I don't really care about V7. I'm more concerned about them screwing up Oxygen OS by making it into Hydrogen OS.
Software wise i just want regular security updates and big fixes. Once they have that down they can worry about messing up the UI and adding useless features.
Pipedream, replace your stock recovery with twrp and stop making me reinstall it after updates.
On the hardware front I just want an SD card. I don't need it obviously but I would prefer it.
