[Q] O2 Xda Orbit update problems - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi,
Just bought an unused O2 Xda Orbit off eBay, works fine with my Tesco Sim card, except won't connect to the update server, even using wi-fi, but that not the major issue.
I've read so many different threads about using 4GB Micro SDHC cards, I've tried updating the ROM more times than I can remember.
I'm running windows 7 Enterprise so had to install Windows XP Mode etc., but I keep getting told that the update utility I'm using needs to be newer.
What I've got atm.
ROM Version 3.4.206.2 WWE
ROM Date 4/18/07
Radio Version 02.67.90
Protocol Version 4.1.13.28
ExtROM version 3.4.206.101
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
The Update utility I've got, with any ROM update I've found, (although Artemis Touch 4.02 is the one I've still got), is version is 3.6.3.0.
Can anybody point me in the right direction please.
I will buy a 2GB SD card as an interim measure, but once I've put Co-Pilot 8 on that there won't be much room left. If someone has found a better sat-nav program that works on the Xda Orbit, only need UK & Ireland really, but Europe will do, I'm happy to take suggestions.
PC's I can fix with my eyes closed, but I'm a bit lost with this.
Thanks in advance from an old sad git

XDA 2s Firmware 28th Feb 2005 / WM5 NOOB.

NOOB QUESTIONS
Looking on www.o2.co.uk site i got this firmware dated 28th Feb 2005.
v1.31.139 are:
O2 Active v3.6:
I'm sure I have a June 2005 link to newer firmware. Just checked with FINDUS he recommend iMate 1.40 FW and or WM5 beta
Is the new firmware for XDA an MSN PPC2003 / WM5 upgrade? or a specific chip software rewrite with nothing to do with MSN PPC2003 / WM5? or both?
Which firmware works best with WM5? for UK o2 XDA2s?
or would it be better to wait for the WM5 BUGS to be ironed out and install firmware best suited to latest PocketPC2003? if so what firmware is best for PPC2003 and where can i get that?
Will WM5 work with: TOMTOM5 navigator, PocketMusic, Pocket Skype? and will it generaly be ok for one year old software? many thanks choppidge.
Hi,
You sound a bit confused! The O2 official update on their website is probably the operating system you are running right now. It is WM 2003 SE 1.31 and is an older version than the imate 1.40, which has the later bluetooth stack and windows mobile 10 built in. The wm5 for blueangel is getting a lot more stable now, but it still has too many bugs for me so I am sticking with the imate 1.40 ROM. O2 have yet to release a 1.40 version of the ROM, although they are supposed to be doing so soon, with Blackberry support as well, but don't hold your breath for an official WM2005 ROM from O2, it almost certainly will not happen.
Hope this helps,
Fin
Yes I am confused! but slowly i am learning, thanks for your help. I hope to upgrade today hopefully not to a paper weight, I have backed up everything so dont mind trying a few different ROMs, I will be reading the wiki very carefuly.
I will be using Skype which comes supplied with imate 1.40 ROM.
I need to learn how to stream audio via a random Wifi connection.
I will be using WMP10 and PocketMusic also TOMTOM5 and a good Icon Bar / Task Manager. Upgrades or downgrades to camera software may be needed.

can anyone help.
im in a bigger fix now, trying to fix a small problem!
My O2
upgraded without any problems and very fast, I was holding off upgrading the original O2 Exec ROM for quite some time, because I was worried my Imate ROM and software experiments might go wrong one day and I'll at least have a working O2 to get me through. However, my JasJar ran into problems with Ranju 7.7 update and was bricked and stuck on Imate blue versions screen (an equivalent of O2's water bubbles splash) for good. I tried everything. At some point I even tried to calm myself down by thinking that at least I can salvage the brand new screen I had installed a few weeks ago and put it into another JasJar I have that needs one. For my solution see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2229386#post2229386
Although it's for JasJar, I think it just might work for you.
Hope it helps
On the other hand
if you have access to an XP computer, I'd take my ROM and AS4.5 and try to upgrade with XP. I heard Vista can be quite unreliable in such matters. If I am not mistaken, there is a thread somewhere about that very problem with Vista.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try this and post back.
Edit:
Problem fixed. All i did was use a Win XP computer, installed ActiveSync 4.1
Did a soft reset while XDA was plugged it and opened the ROM by Ranju 7.7
Came up with no problems at all!
Now only one more thing to solve. My 500GB external HD fell to the floor and now computer isnt picking it up and its making weird sounds. I have 300GB worth of medical school stuff and programs. If i dont get my datea then i am done for. If anyone has info on this let me know.
Cheers
Where do I get Ranju 7.7 from?
Is there a link to Ranju 7.7?
And so it works well for O2's XDA EXEC?
Do a simple search. Here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367448
yes it works with O2 XDA Exec as i did it with mine.
I had the original ROM that the device came with and it installed a really excellent interface and you will have Win Mobile 6
I would really advice you to run it with a Win XP computer only. Vista is not friendly at all.

ASUS P750 - problem with upgrading the ROM

Hi people!
I just bought a new ASUS P750 day before yesterday. Though it came with WM 6.0 Pro, my re-seller told me that ASUS already had an updated ROM availabel on their site which would upgrade the O/S to WM 6.1
So I did download the ROM from their web site which was specifically for the Indian version but the upgrade could not be completed.
So I took it to their service center but even the engineer there could not complete the upgrade and told me to come back in a couple of days.
Now the current status of the machine is as below
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
ROM Date: 2007/12/14
ROM Version: V4.8.1 WWE_HK01
Radio Version: V4.6.8-PP
When I try to Bootflash it, after upgrading the GPS and Radio Firmware, it goes to a white screen where it says:
"
2007/12/05 20:06:37
IPL: iplPegP_4H3
Force Mode!
USB Cable Plugin
SD Download
"
That's it, it stays stuck here for a long while.
I'm trying to flash it with the HK version of upgrade ROM.
Any suggestions on what can be done or what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks
Akshat
Hello,
I have the same problem...
Now i tried the ASUS-helpdesk, they're working on it.
When i know something, i let you know.
Hans
And here is the solution...
Also ASUS could not help me...
I tried again and again, with more types of MINI-SD cards.
The solution is a Standard Fat-formatted SD-Card smaller then 2 Gig.
I used a 128MB MINI-SD card and now it works!
Succes.
Hans

[Q] Old O2 XDA Orbit Arte200

Hi All,
I decided to upgrade my O2 XDA Orbit - Model:Arte200 Software Windows Mobile5 to Version 6. Along the way it has now appeared to bricked. What i get is the following when booting:
IPL 1.25.0001
SPL 1.25.000
GSM 02.67.90
OS: now 3.4.0.0
Then it sticks there and won't go any further.
This is from December 2006, Bios is April 2006.
Are there any old Roms that would work still for this? On the links they only start from the O2 Orbit2 onwards.
I am completely new to this , and so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Tried to make a bootloader, but getting nowhere there either.
Many thx
Guys,
A HUGE thanks to RAVING_NANZA for steps that he provided to another stuck user. Used those steps and now running like a charm.
So, upgraded to the original O2 Windows Mobile 6, will load some new mods and versions.
Once again thanks.

[Q] How to upgrade HTC Blue Angel/ Orange SPV M2000 from WM2003?

I have a Orange SPV M2000 with WM2003 version 1.31 (sim unlocked) and would like to upgrade it to WM6.5 for better browsing properties. However, when I tried to upgrade it from the below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758462
It didn't work for me, as the updater didn't detect my device at all. Note that I am using Win XP SP3 and followed everything in the feedback from other users. Are there any other alternative ways to do it?
Also, I have lost the installation disk so I don't have the software to sync (not that I have valued information inside anyway).
Many thanks!
