I've done a little research into this and I'm wondering if there's an application to use that I can send text messages through my PC when my S620 is connected?
I found a Microsoft SMS program that seems to only work with non-smart phones. I would think they especially make an app for Windows Mobile phones if they have one for plain old cell phones.
Any know anything?
hey there
There's a product called TrueConnect but it aint free. Look for MyMobile which is almost the same, but ya cant text (that i know off) using it. If anyone knows any different, post a reply please.
DashWire allows it and it's free...

Hi,
What antivirus works and can be trusted for Tilt 2? I tried Symantec, but it doesnt work and gives errors.
Thank you.

says it supports 6.1. I don't see that it supports 6.5. Do you know if it does?
HT
Yeah it will run
Sorry, but I'm little sceptical about this program.
flexilis is what i've used and it seems to work well
is that really necessary? i think you only need antivirus and antispyware on a windows desktop.
This gives only malware protection, no virus protection
Don´t think antivirus is really needed yet...

So, no one uses antivirus on the phone!? It is good news for hackers! And surprise for me!
http://www.bullguard.com/why/bullguard-mobile-antivirus.aspx
Found that via Microsoft's website, so I would imagine it's legit. $40 though. And I've honestly can't say I've ever heard of anyone getting a virus on their mobile phone before, though I don't think it's impossible.
ETA: I would imagine you can connect your phone to your PC as a disk drive, and use your desktop anti-virus to scan it. Has anyone tried this?
Hello Everyone..
Today I flashed the ROM for my HTC TP2 to the one listed below which comes with Windows Mobile 6.5.
ROM Name : WWE RHODIUM Cookie Energy style
ROM Version : 03.Jul.2010 WWE
ROM date: 03/15/10
RADIO Version : 3.45.25.14
Everything seems to be great so far and the only thing I now need is a good antivirus that can protect my device against viruses and other security issues.
Can anyone please recommend me a good antivirus or firewall solution that can be installed on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and which should not degrade the performance of the device..?
Any suggestions will really be helpfull..

why would you need an anti virus?
ive used WM for the past 3 to 4 years without an anti virus and i never had any virus problems ever since
but if youre really that concern then, turn off Beam, Bluetooth file sharing, and dont browse any sites that may contain a virus.....but thats AFIAK
cuz really WM phones arent really that immune to viruses AFIAK
Sorry to be a pain here...
but what if I recieve an infected email? Wont it harm my phone?
I do not browse those vulnerable websites nor have any habbit of downloading suspicious applications. I am concerened about email...
Please advise..
No way something can infect your WM phone. There are about 3 viruses for WM as far as I know, and they are all installed by cabs or other **** from warez.
If you are so concerned about privacy and viruses you may try Lookout. I really enjoy its localization service. It has a got a firewall and a anti-virus integrated.

pocket outlook doesnt execute any macros or other things like desktop outlook does
also, it would have to be a virus written for WM, viruses written for other (dekstop) windows wont infect windows mobile

KAspersky
Kaspersky make antivirus programs for mobile phone. Work good with the TP2

Precisely, it's like a Windows virus harming a Mac computer. Windows Mobile is wayyyy different than desktop version of Windows, therefore the same viruses on desktop won't work on Windows Mobile.

Thanks for clarifying my doubt.. I wasnt aware about this and indeed i now feel a bit assured ..
Samylines is right to want antivirus. The "I've never had a virus yet so don't need antivirus software" argument is like saying you'll never wear a seatbelt because you haven't yet had an accident. It's definitely prudent to have the assurance of antivirus especially in an industry that is changing and growing (and the threat of viruses increases) on a daily basis.
I don't know Kaspersky's Mobile antivirus, but I use their PC version and find it superb, so I imagine their mobile version would be good too. And I know that F-secure also make a good mobile antivirus.

as jackos pointed out there are not very many viruses out there for WM (he says 3, ive only heard of 2 though) and they are installed via cabs/exes, not email as the OP is concerned about, and i dont think an antivirus would be very good at stopping those, just like desktop antivirus isnt too good at stopping similar trojans on their OSes
the fact is your desktop usually gets infected via flash player, java, email macros and other means similar to that, and the phone simply doesnt support any of that, so its a lot harder to get infected even if there were more viruses
and with WM losing market share to iphone and android i doubt anyone is keen on making many new viruses for WM
maybe we should start a poll, how many people dont run antivirus and never had a virus
as for me, 10 years using palm, WM and blackberry, no AV, no viruses
I agree with you. I think the chances of getting a virus on a Windows Mobile device are extremely small. But you say yourself "its a lot harder to get infected..." not "its impossible to get infected".
Like you I have been using Windows Mobile for several years and never had a virus, but I'm accepting that the possibility exists. It's the same as insuring your house against the possibility of theft, even though it's very unlikely to happen. I don't understand why you're against someone taking the precaution of installing antivirus software "just in case"?
Peace people
All we can say, anyone who wants to use any antivirus and firewall for his/her Windows Mobile, he does have a few good options.. Else its upto that user to use it not.. isnt it
I did get the option I was looking for and thanks everyone for helping me out and sharing your knowledge here...
Hello,
I have seen freeware websites , there are windows mobiles 7 applications , but i cannot download straight to pc like windows mobile 5/6 , i need software like Zune Software or something like that , i have never been using windows mobilw 7 phone so never been trying.
So anybody know is that windows mobile 7 applications can install manually like
windows mobile 5/6 or do i need special pc software like itunes.
Thanks
to install apps you must use the Marketplace tile. this will let you access music, games etc. beware you must have a data connection and probably wifi for bigger files if you want to sync your music and picture you MUST use Zune software. and the sync it with your WP7 device.
so , do you mean i cannot transfer cab file to the device and then on the file explorer i cannot install cab file by double clicking like windows mobiles 5/6?
Thanks

i have owned many windows mobile phone since the xda1.
i never owned such a rubbish as bad as windows mobile 7.
i have now moved to android 2.2 and i am very happy but why microsoft ruined such excellent windows mobile 6.5 with this rubbish.

As a former wm6.5 owner, I can say you're full of crap to call WP7 rubbish.
None of the things you mentioned with the exception of SD card are missed.
Just because things are done differently doesn't make them rubbish, just different, and in this case, better.
And if you think Android 2.2 is better, you are certifiably mad!

MS didnt ruin WM 6.5, its still available and you can always get a WM 6.x device if thats what you want. WP7 is completely different from WM and as such wont suit anyone looking for the power and flexibility of WM.

There's no such thing as Windows Mobile 7, you cannot install or use apps from previous Windows Mobile 6/5/4 oses. Windows Phone 7 is a completely new os.

Yes
Yes, you are correct, Windows Mobile 6.X applications will not work on Windows Phone 7. However, as I discover daily, more and more 6.X applications are being rewritten for WP7. Today, I use many WP7 versions of the WM 6.X applications I depended on.
BTW I will NEVER go back to WM 6.x, NEVER!!!!!!
Yes, windows mobile is no longer fully supported and WP7 was built from the ground up. No Winmo apps will work on WP7 as it utilizes an entirely different file type. WP7 is not Windows mobile 7, it's something much bigger.
Ok, now DreamForceTeam launched Windows Mobile 6.1 on Windows Phone 7 (HTC 7 Pro) and showed that on the movie (what is next ?):
Now this shows how terrible windows mobile was. I would do this on my trophy, but seeing how putting a laggy os on a phone designed for wp7 is so pointless, I'd rather put windows phone (hopefully tango) on wm devices.
Yessss, with this we may have the chance of using FpseCE on WP7!
Agree

You know...the video shows pretty good performance over all on it. Yea, 6.1 was a dog but, There is still a hanful of apps I would use on it that there is no WP7 app for.
If this was downloadable, I would download it to try it. It would be nice to bring back some App memories...
Is this only on a custom rom ?
That's sort of nostalgic. But like I'd never put Windows 95 on my current computers, I would also never go back to the Windows Mobile days. Sick of constant lock ups, bad memory management, overall laggy behaviour and such. If I wanted to use Windows Mobile again, I'd rather buy an HD2 from craigslist or eBay than flash it on my WP device.
If we could use equalizers and audio effects, I would love to see dual boot.

Did you even watch the video ? He was running ON TOP of WP7, at one point in the video he hit back and it jumped back to WP7.
If it's like shown, an emulator, I'm great with it, if I have to flash my device, screw it, dont want it.
If I can dump 6.1 on my WP7 device to run when I want to, it opens a whole world of 10+ years of Apps that will run on it (and there is a lot more of 6.0+ apps than there is WP7 apps)
I would want to dowload it and install cabs to it, if I can't do that, then I have no needs for it.
I would much rather use an emulator on my phone than waste $150-200 on a HD2 that ran Windows Mobile 6.5 anyway.

I do miss the equalizers I had loaded on WM 6.X. I miss them a great deal. It is the one thing I am still waiting for in WP7. I have found replacements for most all of the other apps I used on WM over the last few months.

I gotta admit that I didn't watch the video. I just assumed it was the one I found over at Twitter last night where a modified bootloader was shown that started WM on a WP device. An emulator would certainly be nice to play with. But I don't see me using it for more than just bringing back some nostalgic thoughts.
I dont see the reason for the hate....it may not make sense to run win95 on currrent hardware but u cant apply the same logic when wp7 is missing features/apps wm had.

It would rock to have Garmin Mobile XT up and running via this loader on WP7. I'm still running WM6.5 because of this software.
This will prove very useful for running emulators, flash, and legacy apps. Don't dis it. It's an app, not a flashed os. I'm wondering, though, if they could use any of the code from this to develop an android emulator. I mean, my windows phone rocks, but extra compatibility is always welcome. Keep it up DFT
i would use just to trick people into thinking i flashed it onto my focus
