[Q] Best Kernel for Battery Life (MIUI/AOSP) - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Didn't see anything specifically pertaining to this by doing a search, so I decided to start a new thread.
I am currently running the MIUI rom along with netarchy's universal 4.1.9.1 (the less aggressive UV because aggressive caused screen tearing). Battery life is good, and better than with the stock kernel, but I still only see about 8-10 hours under light/very moderate use.
Does anyone have a kernel they prefer for exceptional battery life? I'm not looking for crazy, 1.5GHz overclocking or anything like that; superior battery life is most important to me.

I'm using Savage v1.6 CFS - HAVS - WIMAX (#6 I think).... and I am getting crazy battery life. Normally around 25 hours with moderate use.
Never been happier with my phone.

[Q] Battery Life - Stock vs Custom ROM

I'd like to hear some experiences that everyone is having on how the battery life is on the stock ROM (POST OTA, NOT OVERCLOCKED) vs custom ROMs (Again, NOT overclocked).
I've tried the Virtuous ROM, and as expected the battery life got slurped down like coca-cola! CM6.1 isn't as bad, but still seems to suck the life out of the battery quite a bit faster than stock.
Is everyone seeing similar? What makes the stock ROM so much better on the battery?
My experience was actually quite the opposite. When I switched to CM, my battery life improved by about 20-25%. I have a NAM Desire Z so it was running HTC Sense over Froyo.
Remember that it takes a few days of usage for your battery to 'calibrate' itself to the new ROM. My first two days on CM were really bad, but since then, battery life has improved greatly. Yesterday, after moderate use and 15 hours, I still had 45% of my battery left. With my stock ROM, I would be lucky to get 15 hours of use out of the phone period.
As far as overclocking goes, I haven't seen much of a difference in battery life. Reason is, even though you are overclocked when the screen is on, you can adjust settings to under-clock at other times, saving battery power.
I would recommend trying a Custom ROM for 4-5 days, that will give you a better idea about its battery life. Also, there are lots of settings you can tweak that affect battery life greatly. Widgets, background data, signal strength... SOO many variables in personal usage that battery life is going to fluctuate user to user regardless.

[Q] CM 7 nightlies and atrocious battery

Hey guys, I am on cm 7 nightly #11. I am on radio 09.01 and have experimented with Chad's and the stock kernel.
I have background data, auto-sync, wifi, bluetooth, gps all off. I dont have facebook or anything pushing either. Screen brightness is on about 60%.
With the seido 1750 mah battery, I am getting around 7-8 hours of battery. That is to the bone dead .
That is making maybe 1 call a day, a couple dozen texts, browsing the web a bit and listening to an hour or so of music/pandora.
In spare parts it says under 'other usage'. Running 42.7%, screen on 23.8%. 'Partial wake' only ones on here are really music and pandora, but they are relatively small slivers.
Under settings it is 68% display, 8% cell standby, 7% voicecalls, 4% android, 4% idle.
I have tried wiping battery stats, doing the drain all the way technique, etc.
Anyone have any suggestion on what to do here?
Thanks.
I'h suggest moving to Cymod 7 RC1 (unless you mean the new nightly, then I'm not sure) I have been running cyanogenmod since before the nightlies hit and I've never had battery that bad. I get about 3 days of standby out of my phone on RC1 and the incredikernel. I listen to pandora on 3G (charging only in that time) about an hour a day and never charge otherwise unless I'm using it heavily. I text semi often, but don't really listen to music or call.
Seems wildly different that my experience. I take it this is specific to this rom, and your battery is better on others, ie battery itself not going south? With pretty similar usage and syncs to yours, I make it about 10 hours to use 50% of batt while at work. That's with stock battery. Only new nightly #8 with stock cm7 kernel.
1) change to 2.15 radio
2) did you buy the battery off ebay for $10? If so its really a 1250mAh or so. Either way OEM batteries are better than the aftermarket (ie Siedio)
3) Is the battery really old? If so it may be wearing down
4) Kernels are all decent, they should all get better than what you are getting...
5) Don't overclock to 1300+ it should run smooth at 998 or whatever it is.
I get 12+ hours of moderate use out of my OEM 1500mAh battery.
When I first started on the nightlies and flashing different kernels, I was having the same issue.
I stopped flashing other kernels and started using the stock cm7 kernel, now I am getting awesome battery life. Also, after flashing, several people recommend immediate rebooting to improve battery life.
Thanks guys.
Few questions.
1.) Radio 2.15? I am on 2.15.00.09.01 currently. Is that the same?
2.) Mine is an authentic Seido. But should I start using the OEM 1300mah battery?
Oh, I should mention. I don't overclock at all.
I was using the stock battery and got ~6 hours even with UC to ~850 most of the time and ~200 while screen off. Turns out my battery was defective and even now OCing to ~1100 most of the time I'm getting 4x the battery. Of course I couldn't be sure that my battery was defective until after I bought the new one but if the battery life just doesn't make sense then you might want to try going back to stock (assuming that's fine) and comparing.
try a different battery maybe
i currently have the stock battery which was only used a couple days
a HTC 1500 battery
a seido 1750 battery but i havent tried any of the other batteries in awhile but i also use CM7 nightlies on #11 because it seems to have best battery life
maybe ill try my other battiers and see my findings
I've had a similar experience and I'm fairly certain it was not my battery. The battery worked great with other ROM's; Normal usage of my phone would yield roughly 40% remaining battery life at the end of the day.
After going to CM7 (I started at #38) my battery has been lousy. I can't get through a day at all.
Two days ago I flashed incredikernel 2272011 as well as CM7 build #11. I'm using the default smartass governor and my battery performance is back where it used to be. Going through an entire day for me is no problem with normal usage.
Not sure if that helps but I've had good luck with this kernel thus far. Oh... and phone has been rock solid!
I'm on CM7 Nightly 11 right now with stock kernel. Seidio 1750 that I've had since last June. I've recently been comparing Tiamat's 3.14 to stock. If I'm on any kernel that has Smartass I'll use that as my governor. If I'm on the stock kernel then I use SetCPU with the kernel set to ondemand and a screen off profile set to 245. Either scenario seems to give me pretty good battery life, but I think Tiamat's with smartass may be a little better. With any kernel I've had it overclocked to 1.03.
Also, the brightness settings based off of HTC's ROM that were posted in the cm nightly thread in the development section have worked great. I've definitely noticed an increase in battery life.
I use advanced task manager with the shortcut on the desktop. I leave essentials running in the background but try to make sure everything else is killed.
All in all with the current setup I have I can get roughly 12-14 hours with heavy texting, 4-5 phone calls, internet and games scattered throughout the day.

Best Kernel for battery life

Hello,
I was just wondering what the best kernel was for a sense rom user who wants the best battery life. I don't want any trickle charge kernels because I am scared of what could happen to my evo.
So... in your opinion, what is the best battery life kernel for MYNs RLS (the one with sense 1.0 and 4g) without trickle charging?
Thanks
Everyone's phone reacts differently to kernels. Your phone may like netarchy kernels, ziggys kernels, baked snacks, etc. My phone liked net's kernels. Also, be aware that there are 2 kinds (bfs and cfs) of kernels. I had to try out a few and let them settle in for a day or two so you can see what kind of battery life you'll get. If you use setcpu, you might want to see what governors you can use with the kernel. some may or may not have a smartass governor for example. Just remember to clear your cache before you flash a new kernel. Oh and idk if you need to but I usually wipe battery stats too.
try the 4.3.1kernels with "no sbc" its hard to say one or the other is best... every phone/user settings differ.
use this to help on some of the terms.
i currently use 4.3.2 cfs sbc less havs
i was using 4.3.2 cfs nosbc havs more and got good battery, just trying a few out i can always nandroid back.
remember now when flashing new kernels its good to go thru 2-3 full charge cycles. whats happened to me in the past is after a new flash my battery would drop, so calibrate, there are steps somewhere in xda? for calibration. i just charge, then use the **** out of it...then charge fully...use normally then gauge your batt life.
-hope this helps.

[Q] What kernel do you use?

Hi I am wondering what kernels everyone is using for their Incredible. I was using Tiamat 3.3.5 NO-SBC and got decent battery life. Today I put on Savaged-Zen-INC-0.0.2-BFS-HAVS-GB-signed. What is working best for you also what one would you recommend for maximum battery life. Thank you.
I'm kinda one of those people that just experiments around with kernels. Right now I'm using the same as you which is Tiamat, but I really have enjoyed the most recent incredikernel.
I'm running Skyraider 3.5 with the 2.6.32.27 incredikernel. Happy with it so far. I'm at 46% battery after 28 hours of medium use for calls, texts, browsing, and listening to music. I have the screen brightness pretty low and the cpu governer set to "smartass". I just flashed to this from HeyitsLou #9. That one gave great battery too...the best was almost 72 hours! I flashed to this one for the overclocking.
I really like incredikernel, I get great battery life out of it. when I flash a new kernel I bump charge then erase battery stats and I get about 2 days of battery out of it, that's with turning off wifi when not needed and custom automatic brightness

Looking for a Battery saving Bug less rom

I'm on toroplus. Preferably Jellybean. Well here are the ROMs I've tried.
Black bean baked is causing extreme battery drains. Cleared battery stats and did a calibration and nothing.
I have a Hyperion Extended battery 3500mah and I am getting a battery of 50 minutes screen off/on.
Thanks and do not flame.
BAKED is causing battery drain? That way improved mine. Stock kernel. Try ru jellin. Basic stock, no mods but extremely awesome right out the gate
Stock

To be honest, kernels are all about same right now battery wise. It also depends on which ROM you use. I never tried Baked, so I can't recommend best kernel for that, but what I can say is, if you don't need color control, overclocking or anything like that, just go with Stock. It's most reliable kernel out there
If you do want extra features from the kernel, just try them all. Make sure that you use them for about a day or two for battery life.
Me personally am using AOKP nightly with Franco Kernel (Latest nightly), overclocked to 1.4GHz with stock battery (GSM) and still manage to get about 4.5 hours of battery life
Stock rooted.
