Het me start saying that I nove mt Desire. One thing not so good is the short memory, at least in my opinion... I've been testing all sort of apps and after one month of fun, I only have 30mb free space on internal memory. I've been using apps2sd to move apps to SD but a lot of then don't allow it.
What's your opinion and experience on that issue? Can you give me some advice to "grow" my memory?
Thanks in advance...

fyi the term memory management refers to the way android handles the ram not the internal storage, as for apps2sd your getting confused, the move to sd function in froyo has nothing to do with apps2sd, to get apps2sd to work you must create an ext 2/3/4 partition on your sd card
Thanks for the info.
But one thing. I've been using the app2sd to move some apps to the SD card and my SD OS fat32. What do I gain by formatting to ext2/3/4?
But still, how do you overcome these memory limitation?

if you have a rom that is apps2sd enabled, make a partiton on your sd card that is ext 2/3/4, this is the same as the native linux fs, then the apps2sd script creates a symlink between /data/app/, the dalvik cache and your ext partition, moving everything from thoes locations to the ext saving alot of space
Thanks a lot for your help!
I already have apps2sd working. At least I think so ... He moves the apps to the card. You think I should format in ext?
What other advice can you give to a beginner to improve the storage space? Can I force some of the applications that app2sd doesn't allow me to move to SD to go anyway? Games and so...

i read a couple guides on how to partition your sd card for android leaving 32mb for linux swap. does partitioning your sd card really free up more ram on your phone? are there any downsides to partitioning your sd card?
I am of the camp that believes a2sd/swap/compcache on newer high-end devices is completely useless. we already have enough ram and internal storage - we don't need external storage for additional app storage or for inventive ram management anymore.
do some googling on it and make your own decision, it's not going to hurt your phone either way.
ok il probably partition my sd card because im using virtuous unity which is somewhat heavy on the ram. when you transfer apps to sd, does it automatically go into the ext3 partition or do you have to choose which partition it goes to?
Wait I just read in a guide that if you partition your as card, it screws up the gingerbread auto kill. Its this true?

Not sure but the apps 2 sd is for older/junkier phones. Our phones have no use for this unless you install 132095873205983285 apps and in that case i would ask what the hell are you doing with all those apps!
The only ROM that uses the partitions is PyroMod. Blah and Sparks are working on a new A2SD script for the new version.

Hi all
I've just flashed my HTC Desire to 7.1.0-RC1 with rom manager using clockworkmod 2.5.0.7
I have tried to restore my apps using titanium backup and then move them to the sd card with the app2sd app.
After moving about 6-9 apps it fails to move any more saying that there is not enough storage left.
The card has almost 1.5gb free space on it so I am guessing that app2sd moves the apps to a specific partition on the card. Is this an ext partition?
How can I access it to see if I can clear it out and start again or can I increase the size of the partition to make more room. I have used CM7 since February and app2sd for about the same time and have not seen this before.
Any help would be appreciated as I have not got all my apps restored to the phone and am running out of space on the device.
TIA Wayne
Are you just using the standard app2sd or are you using a script like Darktremor or simple2ext for example?
Also, open up titanium and let us know what the values say on the main page. Should tell you how much space you have left in your different areas of storage.
Just using the standard app
opening titanium I see
System ROM 126MB free
internal 42.5MB free
SD card 1.3GB free
I use the search system and have tried this solution, but it didn't work. I have a 4 GB SD card and I am running Jankarutu's XE ROM and I would like to be able to partition the SD card equally so I can put 2 GB on my internal memory and use the other 2 GB for storage. Can someone please help me out? I only have 30 MB left, and that's after using Link2SD and linking all my apps.
hello .. have you changed your kernel? if I'm not mistaken you need a compatible kernel ..... I have done my personal rom with sd of course support system .. a factory reset wipe, wipe a Dalvik, and then wipe cache .. I install the custom ROM, I did another wipe and wipe Dalvik cache without restarting I flash the kernel and it's good I have 130 MB of free once a reboot is but I use it just may be a2sdgui of ..
the swap would not apparently enough relative to the wear on the SD card to be seen as
Thanks for the reply. I actually found a different guide that tells you how to trick your phone into thinking the external is really internal memory by replacing the void.fstab file? in the /system/etc directory and it worked. I am going to buy a 32 gb card and do it

can you please share the thread were you find the tutorial.
Thank you in advance.
Is there any reason why link2sd is not workable on s-on device? Is it a ROM problem or is it a security r/w problem?
If it is ROM problem, is it possible to modified the official ROM a little bit so as it could support link2sd whilst still be flashed via Official RUU?
Can't be done with S-ON. You need S-OFF, root, and a custom ROM that supports it.
By default the XE rom has data2sd script built in. You have to partition half of your SD card as ext 4, then wipe your caches and you should boot with 2 gb internal memory...however I think that is the maximum amount capable on this rom.
Props to Jikantaru, alquez, methadron, and to all the other up and coming chefs, you guys made this phone pimp!

It is. I tried partitioning 9 GB and it got stuck on the HTC boot-loop. Going to try an unlimited memory ROM and see if it works If not, I'm perfectly fine with 2 GB of internal memory, but would be nice to get least 8 or 9 as I bought a 16 GB card for that purpose
Also, to the user asking for the tutorial, here is the link
Someone swapped the internal memory of their Galaxy with their sd card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088474
Is this possible with the WFS? The Galaxy has two internal memory partitions: an internal phone memory and an internal "sd" memory. The hack worked bc they were able to swap the internal sd memory with external sd memory.
Is the internal memory of the WFS partitioned like this? Will this trick work? I'm really in need of more memory, even with link2sd. I can't use jikantura's rom bc I have a cdma phone...

One thing you can do is with Titanium backup pro, melt some of the bloatware out of the system/apps area and integrate sys d-cache files into the ROM.
With the stock 2.35 I was able to free up 35 MB of ROM memory and integrate 24 MB of sys d-cache into the rom. Along with integrating updates for facebook, maps etc, I am running with over 400 mb of programs on the Ext2 partition and all their data internal with 65 mb internal still free for data and quickstart apps.
Worth a shot.
Ok so today I decided to partition ny SD card for more internal memory. I used ROM Manager to do so but after partion there was no improvement on memory. I was hoping that I would get like 500mb of internal memory but instead I got a smaller SD card
Am I missing anything because I'm lost for the moment

Data2SD
Link2SD
First, I was using Data2SD, very pleased but now I'm with Link2SD way and must say that I love it and recomend it !
cheers !

you just dont have to partion it you have to use data2sd for your rom or link2sd from market..
if you flash data2sd then it wil be 148+x.. (x=mb of partion you made)
if you flash link2sd then it will be 148 internal.. but most of the apps will be transfered to that partioin...
the difference between data2sd and link2sd is only that data2sd is automatic(though not preferable) but link2sd is more user friendly .
But...I use...data2sd...
I always get...pkg. file invalid....?
Y...
I still have 800mb. Free

Newb question, why format the sd card with ext2 or ext3 if the rom is still being put on the phone?
If you are partitioned, the speed will be vastly improved and your space will double. Every time you install an app, it goes to external storage instead of internal storage, thus giving you more space. It also keeps the program. From closing every time you exit. For example, if you close a game with the app on internal, it exits and closes the app from memory leaving any non-saved progress gone. When on external, it caches the progress leaving the game running while using the phone for other purposes.
So in the end, the partition is better than no partition.

The benefit of partitioning your sd card is it saves alot of internel space on your phone and using a htc evo,you will benefit tremendously, because the OG has very little memory to begin with,by this i mean it will move all of the apps/cache/delvik/temp files to your sd card, hence the sd ext.Alot of the OSes 3.5 sense/ICS/JB arent meant for the OG,they just take up way too much memory,so partitioning is the best thing to happen to the evo and all of the latest recoveries and roms are being built to be compatible with ext 4 and swap, with partitioning and a2sd combined,it gives you the needed internal memory for those memory hogs they call android operating systems, lol.
