My criteria for a good phone case, help me find it. - EVO 4G Accessories

-Fully protects the camera from the phone resting on it when you lay the phone on a hard flat surface face up.
-Fully protects the screen if you lay the phone face down on hard surface by having the case touch the surface and not the screen.
-Fits the phone snuggly and entirely and is stylish to boot
-Phone doesn't become a hassle to remove from your pocket because of the case material
-Case protects phone from dropping at average walking heights where you would be carrying the phone (4-5 feets) shock absorbent material
-Volume buttons and power button protected yet easy to push
I wouldn't mind buying a case that comes with a screen protector too, anyone know of any deals down this road?
What cases fit this criteria? I went to BestBuy today to check out what they had and I was very disappointed.
Recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Trident Cyclops, Mine should be in today, I will let you know how it goes. There is a 30% off deal on slickdeals.net, just search for Evo 4g.

+1 for the Otterbox Commuter. It also has covers for the audio input on top and the HDMI / USB on bottom.

I got the splash CRUISER Slim-Fit PolyCarbonate Slider Case + Belt Clip Holster Combo for HTC EVO. It works pretty well. I would post a link but I'm not allowed to. It can be found on amazon.

Thanks for the help guys! I was looking at the Otterbox Commuter case on Amazon.com and the reviews are terrible for it, any idea why?

Otterbox defender?

Has anyone had any problems with it coming loose? Does it make it too bulky? I'm coming from a inspire, with a thick speck case,so as long as it isn't like 3 inches thick, ill be fine lol

I carry my Atrix in a Commuter in my pocket all the time. My buddy has his Atrix in a Defender and he likes to use the belt clip. The Commuter is def more pocket friendly than the Defender. I wouldn't want to carry the defender in my pocket if that helps.. As far as it coming loose, I doubt that would happen with either Otterbox case.
Defender - Hard plastic inside, rubber out
Commuter - Rubber inside, hard plastic out

Have you noticed the rubber warping a bit? Mine is a little loose now, and I'm not sure if its because its too hot in the pocket...
Yep. warping on the bottom. Did anyone ever realized that the belt clip can be used as a stand?... I dropped my jaw to the floor. Just push the belt clip all the way till it clips.

I have A commuter on my atrix and it's probably the best case I've ever had on any phone. It's flush with the phone at every point and hasn't warped, at least for me. I highly recommend it

Yea, a few of us have posted on other threads that the Defender silicone will warp and not fit correctly. I've replaced mine already and within a few days it started doing the same thing. Waiting for Ballistic to get around to making these.

I am using this case with my Atrix and it's very protective, but for that reason it's bulky. If you know you are gonna doing some heavy duty use with your Atrix - I recommend this case. Haven't had the warping issues described by other posters.

I have had all 3 otterbox cases/phone covers/shells whichever you'd like to call them.
Impact was junk, just a slip on case, spend the extra 5 bucks of whatever to get the Commuter.
Commuter is sweet, I use it as my every day cover when I'm not at work my only complaint is that the rubber around the top speaker and camera is stretched looser than a porn star's asshole but the case looks and performs well. A screen protector is a must since the commuter does not have a built in one like the defender.
Defender is pretty sweet, I do construction and i am constantly banging into things and I have to use my phone a lot. It's very durable and keep it protected I dropped it off the 4th story of the retirement building that's going up and I ran down and picked it up and works perfectly. Obviously it's far too big for fit in pockets, hahaha. Hence the reason it comes with the belt clip, it looks and performs its job superbly. My only gripe is the rubber sometimes gets loose around the edges but that's no big deal.

+1 I don't do construction but I really like the defender as well. All the protection is really reassuring
I even learned to like the bulkiness it adds cuz with this case the phone looks brutal,
since i unpacked my atrix i wear it in a commuter case, it fits just fine and it makes it a bit bulkier and stylish.
i recognized the rubber is stretching through the physics i learned in school - on very hot days the rubber doesnt fit THAT exactly, but nothing i cant handle with.
i will never buy anything else than otterbox for my phone ^^
i guess the commuter series is hot on the top of what u need of an protective case - i still got no problems with the delivered screen protector, no touch issues.
if you prefer wearing your device on your belt you may pick the defender series
hope this helps

Trident Aegis vs Otterbox Commuter case

Ok I like how the commuter case is somewhat slim and it maintains the original form factor of the phone giving it a lower profile but giving it great protection. I also like how the Aegis has more options for color although it looks a little thicker. Which one should i go for?
I like the defender personally
I have a commuter case I'm selling if your interested? Pm me for details

I have had the commuter for a couple of months and it is a great case. I've dropped my inc2 a couple of times with no ill effects. The only complaint I might have is that the headphone jack is a little recessed, so a 90 degree plug doesn't work too well, but a 45 and a straight plug work just fine. Pretty minor complaint.
I like that the seal of the case is enough that I don't get crap built up around the edge of the screen and in the ports like tends to happen with cheap cases.
I use an invisible shield brand screen protector (the only kind I will use - lifetime warranty and no bubbles! Harder to put on...).
If you look on Amazon, you can get the case for about 1/2 price or less, and the shield for the same amount. Including shipping, it came to less than 40 for my setup.
I use the commuter. Without any screen protector. I just love the feeling of the screen. Nothing getting in the way ya know? It is gorilla glass, but take your chances of your own accord.

Commuter
I bought the Otterbox Commuter from Newegg, and so far I like it. It slips out of your pocket really easily because the back is slippery, more slippery than the back of the phone in my opinion. I wish the silicon was tighter on the phone, but it is still tighter and a better case than my old incipio.
I wouldn't get the trident I just took mine off and threw it in the trash after busting 3 of the belt holsters and having to constantly put the thing back together. I ordered a seido off of amazon.
The Commuter felt too slippery for me. I always felt like my phone was going to slip out of my hands unless I used two hands.

Great Cases

I finally found a great case. It fits extended battery. The Krusella leather pouch. No stupid belt clip, which is the best.
I am totally digging it.
Protection is not amazing, but good enough for me. Good enough for government work too...IMO.

IMHO, perfect case for this phone, adds the right amount of weight without being too bulky.
Also offers very good drop protection. With this case on no worries if it drop it, unless on concrete, but that barley ever comes out good!

I really want one of those cases but I don't want to set up a pay pal. Those cases seem to be the go to case for extended batteries. I unfortunately purchased the ****ty Hyperion "case" and it f**king sucks.
With the normal battery, I used the Otterbox Commuter Case. I felt the phone by itself was too thin where I was scared of dropping it. The otterbox texture was pretty good and the dual casing added drop protection.
With the extended battery, I am using the moretalktime TPU case. Feels great, but like others have said, fitment is a little off.

I have the Commuter. As cc999 said, the side lock button is a nightmare to press. You have to press it hard. No exaggeration. Thankfully the screen can be unlocked using the hardware home button. Yeah,... that Aegis on the Epic Touch is a nice match, I have to agree. The Aegis was the first and only case I put on the S2. After my struggles with Otterbox and the flappy-n-loose fit on the Evo 3D and the original Evo, I decided to do Trident. Not a big fan of the Aegis styling tho,... kinda reminds me of all the glass figures at my elderly aunts house if you know what I mean. Those uneven sides and not one corner looking like no other styling was a bit too much for me. I also noticed from the pics, that Aegis is now doing the same thing that I thought was not very smart on the part of Otterbox. They've decided to do away with outer shell support for the silicon inner layer on the top and bottom of the phone. I can almost predict that the silicon top-n-bottom will stretch and loose their fit after a few weeks,... just like it did with the Otterbox. I think Otterbox learned from that and on their S3 Commuter, designed the outer shell to give symmetrical support for the silicon inner layer on all four sides. What scares me now is all the not so good reports about how they thought out protection for the power button and volume rockers. If things are as bad as I'm reading, the Commuter that's on its way here will be returned. I have the Defender on S3 #1 now and it's a solid 'Go'. Hoping to dress S3 #2 in the Commuter.

Yeah, they are a little industrial looking. But that's a good look for me. They're not as bulky as they look once you get it on. Internet pics don't help either with that feeling,... nor does seeing the Defenders on all our friends iPhones and older phones. I've seen a couple Defenders on evo 3D's and man were they were massive. But looking at the Defender on a S3's is so different. Now if you wanna really see bulk, check out the Kraken or anything from Ballistic!

Otterbox Commuter & Seidio Active Holster: Perfect Fit-PICS ADDED 07/25

Well, I can't post links yet for the photos (I have to have 10 posts before I can post links), and I have to wait five minutes between posts (also as a newbie)...so I can't even speed up the process. Sorry, I did take the pics for you yesterday.

Hey folks, I took a few pics of the GSIII Commuter Otterbox. I had to use my Droid Incredible as my camera excuse the quality. I'm the type of person who takes his case off once he gets home so the Otterbox offers great protection however for daily removal it is a bit cumbersome.
Let me know if you need different pics. I'll use my GSIII to take those if need be. Here's a few more:
Here are the pics I promised. Sorry for the delay. I took these pics using my S3, with both auto-flash and no flash, inside of an office. Not the greatest pics in the world, but I tried to get all of the angles of the holster/case fit. Also, this is the Otterbox Commuter case, not the Defender. I have been using this combo for a week now, and I don't have a single complaint yet. Great protection and fit. Since you asked though, I did pre-order the Otterbox Defender case as well from J&R Online. Enjoy.
Silly idea, but why not use a Seidio Active case with a Seidio Active holster?
To answer your question, I personally do not like the Seidio Active case compared one-on-one to the Otterbox Commuter case. This holster gives me a great option for a case that doesn't have an OEM holster option. Why box yourself in with a case and/or a holster you don't prefer just so you can have the same name brand on each accessory?
I have had both the commuter with an hd invisishield and now the defender... I like the durability of the defender but I don't like that I tend to get dust stuck between the screen cover and the phones screen...really bugs me... I may be going back to the commuter

I haven't gotten my Defender in the mail yet, but I'm interested to see the difference. Nothing wrong with trying out different products to find what works for you. I keep my phones for 1.5-2 years so finding the right protection is worth it to me.
How much thickness was added to to it when u put the commuter on? In the pics it still looks pretty sleek. I just ordered the commuter in green and black a few days ago.

I don't feel like the Commuter adds any unneeded bulk. It feels very solid, and the rubber portion does not move and is not flimsy, which I feel the Seidio Active case is. You can just peel the rubber back with your fingertips on those type of cases. The Seidio holster however feels really solid, and when used together there is absolutely no wiggle room or movement. I do have an open mind and look forward to seeing many more cases and options, but I am loving this combo for now.
Commuter added a bit more and the defender slightly more but the phone is skinny as it is and I was using a thunderbolt with an extended battery in a molded gel case before so even in a defender this still feels slim to me lol

Picked up a Seidio Active holster today for my commuter and I must say it is a great combo.
Thanks OP

I'm glad you like it. I just got my Defender in the mail today, but I don't think I'm going to like it as much as the Commuter/Active Holster combo. Just a nice solid option.
