I've actually been having a similar issue recently; WiFi would be working then all of a sudden it would stop and I would have to disable and re-enable to get it working again.
It seems to have start happening after I changed my WiFi AP but other devices (PCs, laptops) are fine. I've not investigated it too much though.

So your sleep policy is set to never? What ROM/radio do you use?
I noticed this on my phone as well. I think, for me anyway, it might be down to using setcpu and underclocking my phone to slowly when screen is off, then again, I may be talking utter rubbish!
Any fix for this yet? So annoying and my only gripe with the phone

Hi,
I have a similar issue on my HTC Desire GSM on which one I have installed cyanogenmod 7.2.
The sleeping policy is set to "Never" and unfortunately, the downloads stop when the phone goes in standby mode.
(I notice this beahaviour especially with the Listen google app, that I use to manage podcasts).
I need to switch off the wifi and re-enable it, annoying!
Any idea? fix? Thanks for your help!

Did anybody notice their WiFi going to sleep even when I have "always" checked in the "Keep WiFi on during sleep" advanced menu option for WiFi? I'm using Groove IP as my voip connection and need my WiFi to be on constantly in order to receive calls, however, whenever the phone goes to sleep mode, my WiFi connection turns off and when I wake the phone it takes a couple of seconds for WiFi to turn back on and then my voip app signs back in.
Does anyone have a suggestion for this issue?
P.S. I have a GSM unlocked version of Galaxy Nexus
Thanks
I have the exact same issue and it's driving me nuts. First I thought it's because I'm using a custom ROM, now I restored everything to stock 4.01 and I still get the same issue.
Could rooting be the cause?
It happens to me to when I'm streaming videos from phone to my tv, as soon as screen goes off on the phone within a few mins the wifi will go off or slow down considerably.

I have this annoying Wi-Fi problem on my Desire. Tried with both CM based and Oxygen based roms, different radios, RILs, kernels etc but still have the same problem.
After a while of using the phone with Wi-Fi turned on while screen is on and then off while screen is off (using 3rd party application to manage this and not wait for the 15min timeout as per default in Android). The Wi-Fi won't connect anymore and won't see any availible networks whatsoever (not just my router but none of the neighbours as well). When turning off wifi and then on again it says "scanning" for about 2 seconds and then "disconnected". Sometimes it works to turn wi-fi on/off a couple of times but often I need to reboot to get the wi-fi to connect again.
I'm running out of ideas to test and can't really believe that this would somehow be a hardware problem since wi-fi for the rest of the time is working perfectly.
Also, I have observed the same problem while turning wi-fi on and off manually before turning off screen etc and thereby eliminating the 3rd party application.
Any ideas?
I would say that the HTC desire wifi signial is sometimes poor due to low cost hardware. There is no going about but I've many seen a fix to that but, try not to put The adaptor behind oblique or thick obscure object as it will intterrupt the signal.:banghead:
Edit.
Try cold reset your phone and s-off and root. Cold reset is full factory wipe. Don't change radios too much, it harms the signal.change hboot.

Thanks for your answer.I have more or less tried everything you mention and I'm s off and rooted since a while back.I don't think this has to do with bad hardware but more likely some kind of software flaw.the problems are totally intermittent and even when I'm 1m away from the router it can happen.
My latest thing is to try with a program that closes Wi-Fi when screen of but at the same time set the android sleep policy to "never".gone a day without any problems now but still to soon to say...
Edit: It's now been 4 days and still not one problem with the Wi-Fi. Perhaps the combination of software that turns on and off the Wi-Fi all the time works best if the Android OS is set to "Never sleep" policy after all...

I have a problem like this before. What i did was to flash another ROM. That solved my problem.
Try miui ics. It's sweet about wifi

Since I set android system policy for Wi-Fi to never sleep I've had zero problems. So if people are using programs to shut off Wi-Fi when screen is of etc I recommend using this policy if having Wi-Fi problems.

Hi guys
I've been getting fairly decent battery life, however am now connecting my phone to the car daily via bluetooth.
I've noticed some battery drain and after checking the built in battery stats and also better battery stats app, my Bluetooth is not turning off when I'm selecting it.
IE, connected on the drive to work, get to work, disconnected then turned off, but showing as constantly on.
Any ideas what could cause this?

I have noticed the same thing when viewing battery stats although I never use bluetooth and it's always off.

Any updates or anyone else having the same problem?
I also noticed it just a minute ago. gsam monitor tells that bt was on for 6hrs+ which is the exact same time with phone radio.
Earlier this week connected to my boss' car radio for bt aux, this is the first and last time I used bt. Switched it on&off from settings, nothing changed.
SH26CW, running 4.0.4
Might be useful to give the serial no's since it is useful information about the production site and date.

Same issue here, and same Android version. GSam always reports the same Bluetooth on time as the time unplugged, ie. it's saying that BT has been on all the time, while it's clearly off. I've tried different ways to switch off BT (using widget, using settings, going into Airplane mode and back) but to no avail.
Part of me is suspecting that GSam might be reading the wrong value and falsely reporting it as Bluetooth. But perhaps someone with a different battery monitoring app could check on this and confirm?
It is a bug, to solve it you will need to restart your phone.
This is the only way I find to solve this on stock 2.17/Android 4.0.4.
This bug is caused by turning your Bluetooth on and off.
I faced the same problem? But does that use battery? Actually.the Bluetooth is off.

Hmm, user fault then hheheheueh
the strange thing is, it does not consume battery at all. ok it's not connected to any device but I would think it would consume more than just %1.
may be non-discoverable makes it use less. not broadcasting anything.

A restart sometimes fix the problem but not always. Today I had bluetooth turned off then after restarting by four hours my device reports that bluetooth has been on for 4 hours even though I didn't turn it on and it shows that it's off.

Glad I'm not the only one
I do find a reboot fixes it, but I don't want to have to reboot my phone every time I get out the car.
I'll get my serial number when I'm home and see if its the same

I'm now having a chat with HTC live support about JB update and also asked the question about BT off issue.
He said, please follow the following steps.. Waiting for what he'll say..
So he suggested booting in safe mode, going to applications? >> manage, uncheck.. ? I'm not familiar with safe mode so I cannot surely say what he is talking about.
Has anyone tried this? Did it work?
So he sad that this will solve if an application is triggering the problem, but I haven't used any applications that use BT.
So, the next suggestion is factory reset, bullsh*t. sorry guys =)
useless post may be, but confirms that HTC official support has no fixing for this.

Hahaha, that's funny and more towards Apple ideology.
Bluetooth was designed to be efficient. But, if its running then it consuming energy ,and that's something I don't like.
I already checked logcat/kmsg ,but nothing about this Bluetooth issue.
I didn't see anyone on JB came to complain about this, let's see what the offical JB has to offer.

Try to disable "fastboot", and give it a try.
I am afraid nothings more can be done on stock, other option is to wait for JB and hope it already fixed.

Safe mode is a mode in Android, that will will disable all the 3rd party installed apps. Similar to safe mode in Windows. After your turned on your phone, just press on the volume key and it will get you there.
Beside that, I never trust customer support, and I never had a good experience with any of them.
The only good thing is about companies offering customer support, is they add job opportunities into the economy.
This problem just crept up on me. I noticed the battery was lower than normal, I checked BBS and it seems like BT never turned off. A reset would solve the problem until I turn BT back on again.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed with 4.1?

It seems so, at least on my One X G Sam is now reporting the correct BT on-time, whereas pre-JB it was continually on, clock ticking even after turning it off.

Hello, i'm using CyanogenMod 10.1, but i had the same problem with AOKP.
The problem is that, when i put in standby my phone for a long time, Wifi turns off (or it just disconnects, that's still not ok)...
It takes a while, i mean, if it's in standby for 5 minutes or less, everything seems ok, but after a while (don't know for sure how long), when i wake it, i find that it was disconnected. The problem is that i don't have a flat data plan so when i'm at home i have to choose if use my limited data or not receive network notifications...
Any solution?

Try turning off "Avoid Poor Connections".. and
Turn off "Wifi Optimization".
R: WiFi turns off when screen is off?
I'm trying... Does disabling wifi optimization make it a lot more battery hungry?

but iam using cyanogenmod 9.1.0 stable version...
but when the screen is off for some minutes the wifi turns off even i gave keep wifi on during sleep in wifi advanced settings
I often have the same problem. I've tried fixing it with most combination of those WiFi settings, in both stock and CM10.1 and it still happens. I think it might be something with the phone, but if anyone knows of a way to fix it, that would be great.
WiFi is known issue on 4.2.2 ROM.

I'm hoping someone can help out.
I picked up a used SGH-T989D (Telus, not T-Mobile) and I'm looking for a ROM that is done up so it can be used strictly as an MP3 player. I've seen plenty of posts about people since I've started working on this but nothing about any particular ROM to look at. Ideally, all radio would be turned off or removed except wireless.
At the moment I have the phone rooted with SuperLite 4.1.2 and running WinAmp to test with. I'm getting a constant problem with the system intermittently locking up for 2-3 seconds. When music is playing all audio stops during that time. Running apps only shows gapps and gservices running.
Does anyone know of a stripped down T989 ROM with battery and audio optimizations?

The problem with Airplane mode is you have manually go into the settings to allow the wireless to come up. Rebooting causes that the wireless to become disabled again. I know minor. The phone isn't going to be used as a phone anymore so I would prefer to have the radio turned off permanently.

You're correct, after flashing with a light-weight rom I'm able to turn on flightmode with wifi still running.
