I need an app that will permit me to show my phone off and keep private information secure by preventing access to apps like gmail.
Anyone know some good ones? Thanks

Well with gmail I don't know. But for txts and mms there is shady sms, for your gallery (pics, vids, and music ) search the market for audio manager, ,, each are hidden and if you dont know its there you wont find it and they are password protected. Hope this helps

EStrong Security Manager has an app protector.
It requires a password to open the selected app(s).

The HTC Mail app really has a tough time sending emails, especially ones with attachments.
Are there any tutorials around about the settings, smtp, and other settings. It seems like the outgoing settings are messed up but I cant seem to figure it out.
Thanks for you help!
I'm assuming that there was a typo in the thread title. If not, You shouldn't use the HTC mail app for gmail stuff. Use the gmail app for that. As for it having trouble, I've never had trouble with it. I suggest clearing off the accounts, and re-setting them up. Don't try to get into any advanced settings; just follow the prompts to enter username/pass, and "proceed" and "next" when prompted.

The thing is, I cant send attachments via the Gmail app. Only pictures. I need to send songs(in various formats), documents, pictures, etc and I can only send these with the stock HTC Mail app. I dont like using apps from the market in place of apps i already have...just a hang up i have.
anyway, i think ive gotten it to work but im not sure how. i just kept messing around with it then i was able to send an email with a 10mb audio file attached.
hopefully whatever i did will stick...
thanks
I really don't need or use it i dont need weather facebook or twitter updates does turning it off help battery a lot does anyone know?
And is there a way to still access the market is don't like enabling it to use it bc i forget to turn it back off and there's no toggle widgets for it.. thanks

Idk about a lot of bg data but it will save some at least. What do you mean about the market? Could you explain more?
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
The market requires background data to varify services etc... for the apps you mentioned just disable auto-sync. Also keep display brightness low, wifi and Bluetooth off when not in use, check all app settings to ensure they aren't running automatically or frequently updating and also turn vibrate/haptic feedback off if possible.
Yahoo mail doesn't like me when I disable background data -_- how do I take care of that?

Yahoo! Mail and the Market do require background data. Market I understand. Yahoo! Mail, not so much.
In any case, you can use the built-in E-mail app to get to Yahoo! (not Gmail, sometimes labeled "Corporate Email", it's the little envelope with the gold stamp coming out)
Check this thread from earlier today for the settings:

Background does save a lot battery but I use the market and some other apps a lot , so I just leave it on, one thing that can save you a battery is using WiFi , like if you at home and you have WiFi use WiFi instead it will help , and the mail app (blue envelope for HTC sense ) let you set up yahoo, is not push but you can set up how often you want it check and it does appear read when you check online

This didn't work when I first got my phone but it works now? How did you do this magic trick!?
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
Try k9 from market. It is a heck of a email program and free. I removed gmail and yahoo email along with mail.apk. If handles all my general email in a tight package. And to disable background update will save battery life since 3G does not Ned to ba abler.
Yes it does save lots of your battery! Just turn off ALL internet access. Your phone will go for days and days without needing a charge.
(Home menu with free space for an additional icon) Menu Button -> + Add to Home -> Widget -> Settings -> Mobile Network.
When you are not using the phone anything other than phone calls, turn off the Mobile network. All background updates like weather, e-mail, etc will stop until you turn them back on.
(Home menu with free space for an additional icon) Menu Button -> + Add to Home -> Widget -> Settings -> Sync All
This is great to manually turn on the Internet and have the phone sync up all the services then turn off the mobile network.
ok where can i get apps at?
how do i tether?
where can i get ring tones at?
all my fb contacts were loaded on to my call list, i dont want them there can i just delete them?
any input that u want to share with a new user would be great!!
thats all for now but more to come thanks!
Android Market.
Install one of the many tethering apps in the market, or root and use the wifi tether app.
Just drag and drop into sd card, select in the music player and press menu > set as > ringtone.
root? lol man i told you im coming from a bb so yea lol
You can also get anyone of a dozen apps like Ringdroid to select the part of the song you want for the ringtone.
If removing the FB synch doesn't get rid of the contacts then if all your contacts are already on Google then you can delete all contacts and just synch back the Google ones.

Rooting is akin to gaining admin access on a computer, it gives you near total control over your phone and let's you do things like remove system apps (like Sprint Bloat and the like).

You have the market application on your phone, it's called Market, download your apps from there. If you want to scan barcodes then download the barcode scanner app.
When you turn wifi on your phone will look for open networks then notify you, don't leave wifi on when not connected or you'll just be wasting battery while it searches.
Do not use a taskiller. Seriously. It interferes with the Android system and just wastes battery life.
I think you need to do some research on how to use your phone, some of these things are extrememely basic and covered in the booklet that came with your phone.
thanks for the input! I know i need to read it lol just waiting for some quiet time to do so
how about this if i un sync fb from my E will i still get the feeds? i just dont want my fb friends on my contacts....

It sounds like you are just getting started. You can go in settings and reset phone and start over. When you sign into Facebook, there's an option to skip the sync part and just sign in

Hey I'm running ARHD 2.1.2 and I have an album called insta uploads. I was wondering if any of you guys are aware how to remove this album.? It has a picasa icon next to the name which is weird cause I can't find that installed anywhere. Anyone who can help gets a thanks! Btw already tried to delete there is no trash button.

Do you have Google Plus installed? That's how I first noticed instant upload. It's an option when you first set it up. I personally like it. I now don't have to worry about backing up my photos separately.

I did but uninstall ed it cause I thought it was the problem. But its still there. I did but there's photos of my ex and it gets old seeing them there when I have someone new and she's getting annoyed there's virtually an album of my ex and I on it

I too wondering why Google decided to make it a PITA for everybody to remove the instant-uploaded photo. They do let us Edit though, that really ticks me off.
Well thank you geek_riot you helped me narrow it down. To anyone else, the only way to edit this is to go on your computer and delete the photos (or maybe google+ on your phone?) Either way its not the way it should be :\.
The way I keep them from showing up/get rid of the album:
1. Go to accounts under settings and remove whatever Google account the Instant Upload folder is tied to.
2. Go to the settings in Gallery and make sure that you have "Sync on Wifi Only" checked.
3. With Wifi turned off re-add your Google account, then uncheck the box to sync Google albums.
4. Carry on as normal.
This works as long as you don't select the "Refresh" option in the Gallery. That forces the Gallery to re-associate your Instant Upload album, similar to doing a one time sync of your Gmail inbox if you have auto sync turned off.

So i recently downloaded an app outside of the marketplace. I was dubious about the app at first and now its came back to bite me. Ever since i downloaded the app my email has sent out roughly 10k emails. None are showing in my sent folder. Only reason i noticed was because i own my own webserver and noticed my account had exceeded its limit.
I have read about a yahoo app infected with a botnet virus. I downloaded a ttorrent app and thats all i downloaded on the date the emails started. Ive tried running antivirus from marketplace but not picked up anything.
Ive had to stop all of my outgoing email from the affected account for the time being but can anyone help find out how to remove the virus without doing a fa tory reset??
If u r rooted, first uninstall and clear data for any suspected app, second install droidwall to block all apps u dont want to access ur wifi and 3g,for sure u will solve the problem or at least u will identify this problem source app, once u know it u can uninstall or freeze using titanium backup..good luck
