The media does not play AVI files on my device.
Can I download a plugin so it will do that?
Which file / movie formats are support by the media player?
Thanx,
John

I recently had a windows mobile 5 phone with a default tuma 1.3 installation, which happily played m4a music files on windows media player.
I now have the same phone running a standard orange uk installation of mobile 2003, running media player 10, but it no longer plays these files.
Does anyone know why? If so does anyone know how i can play these files again on 2003?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
m4a is actually AAC encoded audio. Look for a player that supports AAC format.
pocket music or pocket player can play it,try it
or just install the cab I posted a few times already
Mi_MediaSupportv2.CAB
so that WMP10 can play it as well... it's mono only though..

You need this software, the WindowsDecoder.rar, its 2 dll files codecs, wma and wmv, copy both dll file codecs to the Windows folder. To make this real easy, go to my blue-ray screen 3GP video player thread and download the "Total Commander" for smartphone and use this tool to install the 2 dll file codecs to the windows folder. When completed soft reset your device. Next on your TCPMP/Player go the File Association area and check mark ALL the blocks, soft reset your device again, now the TCPMP/Player is the default player on your device. Get the WindowsDecoder.rar codecs download here http://www.mediafire.com/?19gjvmjzylt.
I was just wondering whether somebody can make the cab or installer file to enable codec like xvid, rv, ra, divx etc to play all the media formats in the windows media player itself. Just like on our desktop PC we use Klite or vista codec packs etc.
Does anyone know why Zune software is converting WMV video before syncing with HD7, and how to stop auto conversions?
When in zune collection and music click settings near top right corner and look in there.
There are settings for music to convert if quality higher then XYZ or never convert ut until now I have not found a way to stop video. However if you were to stop it you would not be able to play it. My Zune only converts formats it does not recognise.
It copies with no cnversion m4v, mp4 and wmv.
Yes, no option for video...Is there a way of by-passing Zune and drop files into phones folder?

For now no. Again zune will only play specific formats and if your video is already in it desktop zune will not convert.
Thank You.
m4v and mp4 are converting when i try to sync, is there a way to stop this once start (ie tell it not to sync any more).
why are they converting anyway?
Zune Automatically converts videos to a format that is usable on the phone.
Just because it's an AVI video, that doesn't mean the phone can play that specific codec. Also, some bitrates, etc. may not be supported (not sure on that).
Windows Media Player does the same thing for Windows Mobile 6.x, and even DoubleTwist does the same thing for Android devices.
Also, Zune uses MP4 formats. There is no Windows Media player in Windows Phone 7. It's a Zune HD with a phone.
This is like complaining why iTunes is converting you WMAs to AAC before syncing them to you iPhone... ... ... ...
Media Synching software has been doing this for close to a decade, if not longer.

Bolox a 720p Family guy blue harvest in divx (my own copy) was converted to mp4 but resolution was not lowered.
A 720p family guy something dark side in mp4 was converted to mp4 but resolution was not lowered or audio adjusted.
A stock resolution death race in wmv was at first not recognised by zune but worked ok in WMP and microsoft movie maker as a wmv file. After that zune suddenly recognised it but still converted it to wmv before copying.
A mobile resolution 320x240 family guy seazon 8 in wmv was not converted at all it was saying converting percenteg went to 5% and then suddenly 100% and it was syncing.
There is an issue there with zune not knowing what it does.
What is bolox?
There are different version of the Windows Media codec. That's not telling much. Do you have a list of which WM Codecs the Zune HD/WP7 supports?
Most media players will transcode unsupported formats to a supported format when you sync files to the phone.
Lots of them will also convert pictures to a supported format as well.

Yep right wmv being microsoft code wmv = windows media video yet it still transcodes them. On top of that PC with no extra codecs just what is in win7, plays it so why it would not be the same?
On top of that I compress videos always with the same profile. Some videos get converted some do not.
One more windows live movie maker from windows essentials 2011 has option to save in windows phone format. Which is specific resolutions and codec (mp4) with no ability to change anything in that, unlike other profiles, yet zune still converts that to mp4.
Check your facts before posting. Microsoft introduced those profiles just wp7 release and they do not work.

Ruscik, I am following a similar issue and am trying to push MS into enabling avi containers, but like you mention this issue is much bigger then I initially thought.
Would you please be so kind to raise your concern in these posts:
