Ok well I tried rooting my g2 using this guys video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU9zn_BEth4 ...I did everything exactly...and I have S-off ....what happens is that root doesn't stck so everytime I reboot I don't have root access...I tried doing what some said....temp root > su > sync > reboot .....didn't work....also tried... temp root then perm root using VISIONary r12 and r13 didn't work either...
The superuser app is always there....what can I do to solve this? Will starting all over again can gave me issues?....
Thanks for your answers
I actually had this problem
But since it was s off I just flashed cm 6.1 so now I'm perm rooted for now

Any non offical rom usually has a perm root in it. So yes flashing a custom rom (I'm on cm 6.1) can make the root stick
Plus all of the custom roms are better then stock lol

That's all u gotta do bro.
Correct me if im wrong but you need s off to flash clockwork recovery...so no you cant just get temp root and flash a rom.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
he has s-off, but seems to be losing root when rebooting so since he has s-off his steps are correct:
temp-root, clockwork, ROM
My bad.

it says step 4 wipe?
and step 5 install rom? what does that mean.. im already rooted with unrevoked 3
i was on 2.2 i downgraded to 2.1 then did the root...is there any clearer instructions? thanks !
Unrevoked isn't correct root look in the sticky topics to root correctly you need to boot into recovery to wipe when you do you select wipe the select dalvic catch and wipe data factory reset then select flash rom select cm then wait until its done then reboot you have installed cm I'll see if I can find I link for rooting

Yes you can should be fine unrevoked isn't full root i.e. root/nand unlock its just root you need nand unlocked so follow the tutorial from the beginning. Its like starting over no biggie the reason it said to use unrevoked because its a root method just not a full root method

Yes. If you want CM6 you need the ENG bootloader. Look in my sig.

Did you change kernals I heard there were gps problems with cm and kernals what cm are you running? Cm6 rc2 from 8_15 or the nightly? Also try putting the power control widget on you're screen and pushing the gps button on that that's been my fix in several roms some of them have it off by default

I just learned that the current iteration of BFS breaks GPS on many devices. BFS isn't part of CM, but if you're using one of the custom kernels with BFS and your GPS isn't working, thats the cause.

Hey I was wondering if it would be possible to install clockworkmod recovery through rom manager on a temporary root I used androot on my friends slide and I was thinking if I used rom manager to install clockworkmod then tried to install a rooted rom strieght from rom manager that would give him full root

No it will not work. What happens is rom manager sets it to flash via the stock recovery on reboot, but it can't do that without the engineering bootloader, since the stock one doesn't allow self signed update packages such as clockwork to flash, while the engineering one does. You need to have full root to flash a recovery. And also, in case you didn't already know, the mt3gs is s-on so your recovery resets on reboot anyway, requiring you to flash a recovery every time you go to it. There's your answer haha

Yeah they really do. Good news though, we're about to get s-off. Alpharev is close.
I've permrooted with visioanary and installed rom manager. Then I've flashed clockwork recovery from rom manager but each time I go into recovery I just get the regular recover icon, not the clockwork recovery icon or anything. I've tried this with all 3 versions of clockwork recovery on rom manager. Still only get the un modifier recovery screen. Am I doing something wrong???

i didnt use it personally i took the long route
Just flash Clockwork again from ROM Manager. It seems to usually take more than one flash before it "sticks".
I've flashed it about 20 times now into recovery. None have worked

Sounds like you only have root and not S-OFF then. S-OFF is needed to flash custom recovery.

I had read that it's not behaving consistently/predictably which leads to issues. Even though I used Visionary when I was temp rooting (the first month I had the phone) when I went to permanent root I used the gfree method.
Im using this method found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045 and I ran into a problem on step (6A). its saying "mkdir failed for -p, read only file system". Can anyone help me? Everything went well until I ran the first part of this step. If someone could help, I'd be very greatful.. TIA
Why don't you just use unrevoked 3? Its really easy!

If you're already on GB (2.3) you wont be able to root.

Just use what I posted above, its the easiest method to root 2.2. All you need to do is restart to clear the temp root.

Unrevoked will install clockwork, then you can install amon RA. Lets not jump the gun you still need root lol.
the way your rooting right now is the way i rooted my phone! i think i ran into that exact same problem back then too....i think i pulled my battery and started over....i cant remember...its been like 7-8 months.
also...what you can do...is run the RUU for 2.2 to wipe your phone (also do a factory reset beforehand too and back up your sd card on your comp) and then start over.
or try a different way...try unrevoked or xHausx's method: [ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Auto Root ~~~ v2.5 (4/25/11) - xda-developers
after you got your evo rooted....flash Amon_RA recovery ([Recovery] [09-Feb-2011] RA-supersonic-v2.3 - xda-developers)
hopefully this helps ya out!
Hi i am noob as you see with my stupid question. Can i flash CWM by using Haseen2000's One V All-In-One kit, should it be safe, i use GSM version. If something goes wrong, can i flash TWRP, or should i use simply TWRP included with it?
Can i just root my phone by unlocking bootloader, then flashing recovery and then do "Perm-Root" command, should that be fine
better to flash twrp

Ok, so should i be fine with this:
1. Unlock the bootloader (got the unlock_code.bin from HTCDev)
2. Flash TWRP
3. Perm-Root option
Should my phone then be rooted, or do i need to do something else?
I am bit worried just because this is my first Android phone and i am not fully familiar with those things, but i want to do it.
Can there be problems with this?

Great, so i guess, let's do it.
Does rooting and using stock ROM unlock anything stuff etc.. from it?
Rooting will give access to the system files of your android and grant u administrative access over your device, whether u stay on stock or install a custom ROM.
