My phone is permanently rooted using visionary, and I have flashed clock work recovery from rom manager, but when I try to boot into recovery it just shows the phone with the red triangle? Can any one help me.
Thanks

From what I have read elsewhere, re-flash Clockwork Recovery.
Doesn't work.

You're supposed to only download and flash recoveries from Rom Manager if you're on wi-fi since T-mobile caches web pages but I was able to get around this by flashing an older version (in Rom Manager) and immediately reflashing the correct recovery (without rebooting or even leaving RomManager).
Of course you can always download the recovery.img file and fastboot flash it.
me too
Same issue. Trying to boot into recovery gives pic of phone with red triangle.
- I reflashed clockwork recovery (not sure is this helped)
- manually went into recovery manager from rom manager menu which loaded w/o problems
- selected backup and restore
- perform backup
seems like it is working...
Volume-up + power. If you already did that then i dunno

fix permissions in rom manager and reflash clockwork
recovery mode
newbie here, or course. back after 2 years away with BBerry, g2 cant get past recovery. i am looking for a way to get my device to turn back on... basically when i try to fastboot, it say i have the wrong image, or no image, fails to load E: sd card failed. i have acces to another G2 so i can get a copy of the stock rom image but has not worked::: i need assistance in this process. what do i need to load from the sd card to make my G2 turn back on or is this what bricking your device is? i have access to the recovery screen and can still load info from the sd card.
thanks for any info.
Are you saying your rom doesn't boot? Are you s-off? And if so can you get into recovery?
FYI - people generally don't fastboot from the SD, are you sure you were in fastboot mode and not hboot?
You know that little voice that tells you to stop and think about what you are about to do....well I didn't 'listen. I have just enough experience to be dangerous....which is why I am writing this thread.
I have a rooted EVO. It was rooted with Unrevoked 3. I was using Clockwork and had flashed several ROMs. Most recently using CM7. I have Nandroid backups and all was well.
In a comedy of errors my original nandroid file was deleted so that I had no was of returning to the stock EVO ROM. I was trying to update CM7 so that i could use the GPS. To do thisI had to flash Sense based ROM so that I could use the MSD(??) and then reflash my CM7 and voila, your GPS works.
Well I couldn't get any new roms to work. I tried several and they all crashed. I then had the great idea to use RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe to restore my EVO back to stock. Bad idea.
I now have a phone that boots straight into Fastboot. I can choose bootloader and get to the HBOOT screen. When I choose the recovery it looks like all is well. The phone goes into the white HTC screen but then goes to a Red Triangle/Exclamation Mark screen. I can get out of this screen by pressing the power button and vol up button. It goes to and Android system recovery screen.
My choices are
reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I have tried placing the PC36IMG.zip (downloaded from xda) file in the root directory. I get a signature verification failed if I try to install the update file from any other custom ROMs. Installation aborted.
All I want is to get my phone back.
I currently have HBOOT 0.79.0000 with S-OFF
Please help

Download a pc36img.zip of a recovery, such as among RA 2.3, then put a rom.zip on your card as well....load the recovery through bootloader and once you get into recovery flash your rom

You'll have to update all of your radios as well since you used an old RUU.

"So you're saying there is still a chance." Thanks guys. I'll get on this today.
Just a quick question. Do I need to rename these files to "update-'file name'.zip" ?
Boot into the bootloader, with the attached zip file exactly as it is. Don't changed the name or extract it. Once in the bootloader, select yes to update, this is amon_ra 2.3 recovery. If you want clockwork recovery, let me know.
When I boot into the Boot Loader I get this:
HBOOT
SD Checking
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Oh my GOSH! I finally got it! Thank you thank you thank you! I was using the wrong PC36img.zip file. Not really sure why there are several different versions of this...a newbie statement I'm sure.
The root script linked to in my sig can be used to update your phone if you wanted to use it for that, once it sees you have S-OFF it will skip all the rooting stuff and go straight to flashing the updated ROM radios and recovery. Afterward just use rom manager to flash clockwork and you'll be good to go.
edit: nm, just saw you got it

So i got the latest version of CW recovery but when i boot into recovery it says its 2.5.0.1
how do i get it to say 3.0.0.8 in recovery?? this might be why none of my roms will load
Mine would do that too, I think. It wouldn't work until I formatted my SD card to FAT32 I believe.
what color font is your recovery? I'm pretty certain they are separate updates\installs. Updating ROM Manager does not update Recovery.
its green font
ya, that's old 2.x. 3.x is orange. Just want to make sure... have you opened ROM Manager and then choose the first option, "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" ?
yup, the top of rom manager says 3.0.0.8
even when i go to the bottom and select older verisons, when i boot to recovery it still says 2.5.0.1
hmm ok. you could manually flash (see below) but I don't want to be wrong and have you try it and your phone b0rks. hopefully someone else will chime in and if they says it's ok, go for it.
manual way -> download the zip from here, rename to PB31IMG.zip, place on root of SDCard, boot into HBOOT, let it update.
Any other ideas before I try this??

When you flash from ROM Manager, first go to settings and check erase previous recovery.
See the thread in my sig.
BTW, there's very little risk in using a PB31IMG.zip to install a new recovery.
Also see dougpiston.com for recovery downloads.

Very important point.
So after i check it in setting do i click the flash recovery and pick 3.0.0.8?? and then let it flash that version? if so i did that and in recovery i still have 2.5.0.1
or do i click that, do a backup and try loading the new rom? im beyond annoyed!!
When i go into HBOOT it says image not found.
Formatted the SD card to Fat32?
Will I lose stuff on my card if I do that?

Yeah, just pull the files off and put em on your computer, format, then put em back.

Did you try WarmZ... I seen a zip file in there thread to allow you to install nightlies. it was suppose to set your CW to 2.5 for flashing the nightly and the reset itself. I have not tried it but that may be causing part of the issue.
otherwise did you try using ROM manager to change to 3.0.0.7 or 6 or 5? maybe that will reset whatever is going wrong with it.
Just a suggestion and good luck

I having the same problem. flashing the recovery by hboot worked for me. On 3.0.0.8 but Rom Manager will not work for flashing to older versions or alternate. So I'm confused why is RM not working for changing the recovery version?
Hi everyone,
I had just rooted my stock i747 (Telus) now, and it was all going well until I couldn't boot into CWM. I read this thread (scroll down to bottom where it talks about "What to do if Phone Boots into Stock Recovery (Android Recovery) instead of CWM"): androidtelegraph.com/guide-install-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s3-gt-i9300/
In short, I had deleted the two files: "recovery-from-boot.p.", and "install-recovery.sh" in attempt to solve my issue to boot into CWM. Once in CWM, I followed this guide to install a stable CyanogenMod ROM: galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-roms/how-to-install-custom-rom-on-rooted-galaxy-s3/
This is where the trouble begins. First, when I attempted to wipe data/factory reset, there was an error. If I recall, it was an error dealing with the mounting of something (probably the stock ROM). Nevertheless, it continued to wipe the data. Next, when I browsed to find the ROM inside the directory and pressed Yes to start installing the ROM, this is where I could not continue. It gave me an error and I do not know how to fix it. I was wondering if it would have to do with the fact that I deleted "recovery-from-boot.p." and "install-recovery.sh" previously.
What went wrong? What do I do? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
If you can boot into your phone then just use ROM manager to flash CWM again. You also use ADB.
Your other option is to go into Download Mode and use ODIN to install TWRP.

Do the 2 files I deleted affect the flashing of any ROM? If so, how do I get those 2 files back? What is the point of flashing CWM again?? Sorry as I am totally new to all of this!

Basically I would do what the guy told you above. I would also download the ROM you want to flash again and try again without modifying anything. You shouldn't have to modify anything unless the Dev told you otherwise.

I have been trying to flash TWRP 2.7.1.0 on my Wildfire S, but failed. It just goes back to CWM 5.0.2.8. I stupidly went to wipe data in recovery, and now my recovery is corrupted. When I try to mount USB storage, it gives me
Code:
E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
I tried fastboot, but since I'm running Windows 8.1, HTC drivers won't install. I have tried most solutions but they all don't work. Is there a way I can flash the recovery from my computer?
You should be able to flash a .tar recovery through Odin

It should not detect too. Odin is for samsung phones. To reinstall the recovery you can try to flash by the PG76100.zip method. Get a recovery in a zip, place it on root of sdcard and boot to bootloader.
BTW how are you sure that your recovery is corrupted? It is really a very weird thing for the recovery to be corrupted.

It isn't really corrupted, just not working as intended. I will try the PG76100.zip tomorrow when I have time. BTW, that is flashed from bootloader right?

Yes you can just go to bootloader and it will check for the file and prompt to install it. And what do you mean by not working as intended? Are you trying to flash CM11 then it will require at least CWM6 or TWRP 2.7

Tried the PG76IMG.zip method from 2.3.5 RUU, flashed in HBoot, factory reset-ed, phone still not booting/recovery still CWM 5.0.2.8.
Edit: Recovery is working as per normal, however anything I flash, it will just reboot to recovery half way in booting process. Stock 2.3.5, Marvellous Sense 3.5, CM10.1, all of them.

You don't need to factory reset after the recovery. Was there any errors while flashing? Try a fresh start like --> Install another recovery, if it installs then all well but if it does not then find the correct RUU for your model and flash it. You'll need to redo everything you did to root your phone after this. BTW are you sure you wiped system and data? Both of them and before flash not after.

My process went from start to current position like this:
1. Was on Marvellous Sense 3.5
2. Tried to flash TWRP 2.7.0.0 through terminal
3. Reboot to recovery, CWM 5.0.2.8 still there
4. Redid process, still CWM 5.0.2.8
5. Thought it was a ROM problem, wiped data, tried installing Marvellous Sense 3.5, CWM wouldn't read SD card, (CWM problems started)
6. Tried creating own PG76IMG.zip with TWRP 2.7.0.0 inside, CID error when flashed in hboot
7. Ran RUU to get ROM.zip, transferred to SD card as PG76IMG.zip, flashed in hboot. (Wiped data before flashing)
8. Phone won't boot, recovery problem automagically ended
9. Tried flashing OWL recovery PG76IMG.zip in hboot, got CID error again.
10. Current situation.
I won't be able to get my CID since I'm running Windows 8.1, and I can't get hold of any Windows 7 PC.

Creating the PG76IMG.zip by your own would not work as the necessary info file is not inside. Take the zip I attached and replace the recovery.img inside with which recovery you want. And don't replace the android-info.txt. That's the one you're missing now.
And press thanks if it worked

There's no zip attached, but anyway, thanks for your solutions, I fixed my problem by flashing recovery from fastboot by borrowing a Windows 7 laptop from my friend
