Hey guys. I finally unlocked and rooted my phone but somehow broke my camera. It loads up and takes a picture but it never saves. I thought I had read about this issue a while back but my searches have come up empty. I did download another camera app called fxcamera and it seems to work just fine. I liked the original app and would like to get it working again if possible. Oh yeah I'm still using the stock rom. Any ideas?
I don't really know where to begin with this issue. It seems so minor and appears to be the only thing not working at this time. It weird because nothing changed. Its only been rooted and unlocked. I tried to clear data. That didn't help. I'm thinking I just need to flash a new rom. I just haven't decided which one yet. I don't have time to play with a few so whatever I pick needs to my daily driver for awhile. Maybe I need to reset to factory again? Again any ideas?
I've too seen others with this issue...
Not sure what they did to fix it...
But I also remember one user flashing multiple roms in the attempt to fix and didn't fix it.
Sorry I'm not of further help at the moment, I'll do a quick search as well.
Edit:
Might be a permissions error.
Try deleting the dcim folder from your SD card first...
And then check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473629&highlight=camera+not+saving
The code user #2 gives can be imputed through "Terminal Emulator" found in the market.
Type "su" and hit enter.
App will ask for superuser permission...accept, obviously.
Then input his code.
Thank you for trying but Im still stuck. I tried deleting the DCIM folder but it wont let me. Just says folder cannot be deleted. I then tried to run that command in terminal emulator but it says it cant find busybox. I really dont know what im doing here but its my guess it cant find busybox because its not installed where its expecting it to be. And I cant install it where it expects it to be. Would it make sense to wipe everything out and install a new ROM?
Just reboot the phone. If that fails, clear data and reboot.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Still no go. In the meantime I was able to get my camera working again by renaming the DCIM folder To DCIM1 and creating a new Folder called DCIM with two subfolders 100ANDRO and Camera. Not sure if the subfolders were needed but it worked. The old folders with my backed up content still sit there now useless and still cant delete. Cant I just wipe everything and start from scratch. I really just want a clean install. I dont need to backup anything. I didnt need to backup anything after rooting and unlocking but I figured why not.
You can reformat your internal SD card via CWM. If it still doesn't work I'd put it back to stock and take it back to the store and complain it doesn't work properly. Assuming the camera doesn't work as desired once back to stock.

+1 If you have problems with any part of the phone just unroot and take it back. if that fixes the camera. then you know it was the method you used to root and I would try another method.
Fix it from recovery
I had a similar problem because I copied files to my sdcard folder while in recovery, which uses root ownership but when the system is booted, sdcard is mounted under a different userid which does not have permission to modify root owned files.
1. boot to recovery
2. use adb shell to cleanup or chown root-owned files to 1023:1023 so they can be modified after rebooting
If you are still having problems you can always just use the ToolKit to unlock and flash a google stock rom which will wipe everything including virtual sd card and should fix any problems.
Mark.

Thanks Mark your right seeing as though I just want a clean install at this point anyways. I remember looking at that in the tookit but it was late and I think I dismissed it because I believed at the time it would also lock or unroot it or both. Im guessing since you recommended this option that is not the case.
Thanks everyone for their input. I appreciate it.

Flashing the Google Stock Image will not relock the bootloader but you will lose root. You can easily use the ToolKit after you flash the Rom to root the phone again if you wish.
Mark.
In this thread you can post your experience, questions, and all other stuff that is not directly related to the RE-FLEXxx rom.
I do this to keep the dev thread clean.
Thank you for your understanding.
I will take a look into this thread from time to time but the main goal is so that users of the RE-FLEXxx rom can help out each other and that they can find help from each other in one place.

I installed 2.0 on my N5110 (coming from 1.9) and it is working well but the top of my tablet is non-responsive to touch. Happened on other releases but a reboot always fixed it. This time the problem remained, so I tried wiping cache, dalvik, fixing permissions, reboots, and all sorts of combinations. I did finally manage to fix the issue yesterday after one of those reboots but now the problem just reappeared and won't go away. Any suggestions?
Edit: Finally got it resolved with a full wipe of data, cache, and dalvik through cwm recovery. Then I flashed Civz reflexx Rom 2.1 and rebooted. The top of the screen still did not respond to touch, so I rebooted and now everything works perfectly.

no snote and extended menu all working for me. Maybe you had a bad download? Otherwise try wiping and installing fresh.

yes, hd happened to me, I re downloaded and reflashed it again and is OK now..
well, I finally installed twrp, and backed up my stock rom, so I am getting ready to flash the first custom rom on any tablet I have had!
one quick question; I am a very experienced rom flasher; I see in TWRP, there are several options under the wipe menu, and, I know to check the first 4 options before flashing this rom; then, there are 2 more options, wipe internal card, and wipe external card.
I know not to wipe my external card, since all my "stuff" is there...should I wipe the internal card before flashing, or is that not necessary when flashing this rom from a stock rom?
I apoligize if this belongs in the the TWRP thread, but I thought since others have probably gone through this, I wanted to post the question here as well. I guess I should post it in the TWRP thread as well...
thank you!

This is my opinion on it.....I usually only wipe the internal card if I am starting completely over with flashing a device. Wiping data/cache is usually all that is needed but if there are a lot of apps that get installed over time their folders get left and every so often I like to wipe it to get rid of all the "orphaned" folders. If you are going to just restore all those apps anyways then it won't make a difference either way. If you are going from the stock rom to a TW custom based on the stock it shouldn't be necessary to flash internal.
thanks man, that is what I thought, but, since I have never flashed a custom rom on to any tablet I have owned, I wasnt sure if there was other "stuff" on the internal card that might be needed no matter what; and, yes, since I will just be restoring all of my apps pretty much once I flash this custom rom, I might as well just leave the internal card alone...
I appriciate your fast reply!

Please take my advice with caution...I did not take your point into consideration because I have yet to do it on this particular tablet (only had the Note for 1 day). Never had a problem on any other tablets/devices but who knows. I wouldn't think there would be an issue. However, like you say probably no reason to wipe internal if you will just be restoring them back anyways.

tun.ko or tap.ko?
I'm trying to get openvpn to work on REFLEX2.0 in tap mode. Looks like I need a tap.ko kernel module for either the stock kernel or the CivZ-StormBorn_Rev2.0-OC kernel. Anyone know where I might find such a thing?
---------- Post added at 03:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:54 PM ----------
I notice the CivZ-StormBorn_Rev2.0-OC kernel has no /proc/config.gz file. That means the kernel was not compiled with the CONFIG_IKCONFIG option. Is there a way to see what options are baked in to the kernel?

USB Mass Storage Unexpectedly Removed Loop

i have better luck if i tap at the bottom of the softkey. it's almost as if the icon is bigger than the actual location that the press registers.
Chrome screen bug solution
Basically the problem is the notification bar, combined with the lack of on-screen softkeys. In order to fix it, you need the following:
Xposed Framework:
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/XposedInstallerDownloadUnsigned.apk
How it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
App Settings manager:
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/AppSettings_0.4.apk
I've been using this combination on my tablet for a while now. It lets me change the resolution for individual apps. For instance, I want the tablet mode of Gmail, but I want my tablet to run in phablet mode so that I get the top notification bar and no softkeys.
The Chrome fix is simple. The app settings for the Chrome executable should have the fullscreen option toggled, the DPI set to 160, and the screen resolution set to 800x1200. It then hides the notification bar on top while you're in the browser, and shifts the screen that quarter of an inch where it is offset due to the Chrome bug on tablets without softkeys. If you need to access the notification bar, simply swipe down on the screen from the top edge and it will pop up.
If the print size is too small, you can use the accessibility settings in Chrome to scale up the font size.

Hi,
Please ignore my last message as the issue was using the wrong kernel on my part. Thanks!
Question
I'm thinking of flashing a new ROM having used stock for month or so now. My concern is regarding the apps I have installed and am currently using, specifically FolderMount.
If I flash a new ROM (either civs older 4.1 build or his newer 4.2 one depending on how he is progressing), will I lose the links?
I have about 25GB worth of game obb and data transferred over from my internal memory to my micro SD. I dont fancy using up all my download allowance having to re- download and install all of those (plus the time it takes to transfer them all over). I dont mind losing the layout of my homescreens as I'm thinking of shaking that up anyway.
I've only one past experience of flashing a Rom and that ended up with me having to reinstall and set up all my apps (jump from ICS to JB on my Asus TF101)

Hi all,
I have an ATT samsung galaxy s3, out of warranty period. My phone's camera has stopped working entirely since 2 months. Its really frustrating! I have tried everything from going back to stock roms then custom roms.
A little history:
- I installed an app ipcam to monitor my baby, I left the cam on with flashlight and was gone for half an hour, since then I had cam freezing probs until one day it stopped working.
- I was trying a lot of options and one day the camera worked only for 5 mins. then when i tried again it was not working.
Please help!
I am currently on android 4.3, Intergalactic ROM 4.1 and MJB baseband.
I also had my sd card corrupted during that same time and have started using a new memory card since 1 week.
Did you try downloading another camera from the play store?
Yes I tired all sorts of camera apks none work....

I feel the file system is corrupted or something but I did factory reset and clean system, cache, dalvik cache, before installing roms so that should take care of it, but doesn't seem to help. I was on liquidsmooth 4.4 earlier when my problems began and I had installed some kernel had done dirty flashing, then I did a clean install of stock fw, but the problem still existed.
I read somewhere that switching bootloaders can screw camera files. So how to correct it there must be something I can do. I need to click my rowing baby's pictures I am missing all those moments when you wish you had a good camera at hand to make videos !

that really sucks, we just had my little man not to long ago and i take lots of pictures. i had trouble with my N7 after flashing an update to the rom the camera from the gallery app was non existent and i could only take pictures from facebook with their camera app. I tried some apps from play store and other areas and i got the message "camera system not recognized" or something to that extent. I downloaded gallery+ with the camera app included and it's worked ever since. Although i only follow one developer when it comes to the N7 (although i use to switch a lot before hand).
i just got my S3 about 2 weeks ago so i'm not familiar with this gadget but.. maybe you fried your camera's hardware? i really hope i'm wrong and someone more experienced can lend a hand. i swapped bootloaders (we could of took different routes of course), played with just a few roms on the S3 but stopped after i learned more about touchwiz (cant believe i actually like a stock based rom :laugh.
sorry for my story lol, did you try the facebook camera (the take a picture option or something like that), i know it sounds silly but again it was the only thing that worked on my N7 besides the gallery camera app. Hope you get it working again! :good:
I tried the gallery ± and Facebook app anything that needs camera doesn't work... But thanks for your input... M glad you understand my plight of not being able to take my baby's pics...
I am on mj boot loader and the camera rear fw I found does null null in sys/class/camera I guess that is the problem.. The system is not being able to connect to the camera ...I don't think it's a hardware issue cuz camera worked for five minutes when I had done a clean install..
I was on liquid smooth before that's where problems started I did done update then installed the previous version... Don't remember what was it exactly
I'm so hoping somebody can help me in this someone who has a better knowledge of how the camera files are laid..I have camera 1.5 in my phone if that helps...

Not sure if this will help but I was on 4.1.1 and I flashed to a 4.3 ROM and had nothing but issues. I flashed back to my 4.1.1 and I got the SAME camera error.
Turned out that that the 4.3 ROM included a bootloader update that was not compatible with the 4.1.1 ROM, it broke the camera.
I downgraded back to the 4.1.1 bootloader and the camera started working again.
Please note that some bootloaders can NOT be downgraded and you will brick your phone.
Thanks for your reply, I'm on MJB boot loader and I guess one can't downgrade from that to a 4.1.1 system so is there no hope for my camera recovery?
Are there any files that I can copy paste to make it work.. ? What happens when the boot loader changes? Why can't we have a boot loader that would run camera on 4.1.1? ..plz guys I know this can b done.. There must be a way...

Try copying all your pictures from external to internal sdcard for a
test to see if you have normal speed that way, if so you may simply
have a slow external sdcard, after copying the pictures remove the
external sdcard, reboot the phone and see if the speed is normal.
(do the above if your pictures are on external sd card right now)
Good luck!
thank you. just put back to factory and getting a new one.
Just got my 10 today. Rooted and S-Off right out of the box. I'm now in the process of setting it all up and noticed the camera app opens for a second but shows no picture and then closes. I installed Google Camera and upon opening it just hangs. I uninstalled a bunch of stock stuff so something may have broken it, although I didn't touch anything camera related.
Any ideas?

I didn't install a custom kernel, no. I'm using the stock ROM just rooted.
No idea why this worked but I restored my original original backup before making a single change. When it booted it was still booting into the system I had fully setup but with the addition of everything I had deleted. I went through in titanium and deleted all the exact same things again. 1000% the same. And now the camera and everything is functioning as it should.
Now I just gotta wait for an AOSP ROM.

I've got a new HTC 10 (64GB) Taiwanese stock and received two OTA's after setting it up. It brought the software to 1.80.709.1 but broke the camera in the process! I'm experiencing the same thing as you are. Click on the camera and it shuts in a second without displaying anything in the viewfinder. Try to access the camera from another app, no luck, just black screen.
I bought the device online and have been trying to organise a replacement but it's taking forever. I've done everything relating to the camera (clearing cache/data to updates, downgrades) and even a factory reset but couldn't solve the issue. I'm pretty darn sure it's not a hardware issue because the camera was working fine before I did the two software updates and I did not drop or impact the phone. So I think if I can reflash 1.80.709.1 or go back to my original ROM and re-do the OTAs I might be ok. But how can I do that without rooting... (want to avoid root if I can).
I've been trying to find the stock RUU for the 1.80.709.1 without any luck (closest I got was the TWRP zip but don't want to deal with that if I can avoid). I've got the RUU for 1.80.617.1 from the HTC US site (Int Unlocked/Dev) but I'm not sure if I flash this would something else break. Particularly around LTE reception / Bands.
Any advice?
