[Q] How can a apply the OTA update? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the OTA update and my phone shut off during the update and now when i try to use my video camera and my gps it doesn't work...also the 3g goes out occasionally. I got the .zip for the update from HTC, how do i apply it?

Try running the RUU for the latest release. I'm too new to post links, but here is the thread title: [ROM]RUU_Incredible_C_Froyo_VERIZON_WWE_3.26.605.1_Radi o_2.15.00.07.28_2k4k_NV_1.70. It's a few pages back.

How would I apply that?

It's an executable that runs on your Windows PC. You simply plug in your phone and let it go. It restores your phone to factory as if it had just come from Verizon (7.28 radio, stock HTC recovery, stock sense). RUUs are leaked from HTC and contain official builds of Android. The only modification that will stick is s-off if you had previously run Unrevoked Forever.

Upgrading hboot?

If I'm running skyraider 2.5.2 sense, 2.15 radio and .77 hboot. A few questions...
1) is there a way to upgrade hboot?
2) is .79 the most up to date version? If not, what is?
3) if I can upgrade, is there a reason to? What is the difference between the different versions of hboot?
No reason, newer HBOOTs don't really offer you any performance increase.
Upgrading to hboot 0.79 is required for successfully installing the 2.2 OTA from Verizon (not leaked version). Can someone please answer this post? There appear to be a bunch of us stuck at this point.
Akhnaten
BTW, the error the update gives is "Signature verification failure" or something like that. This is occuring with hboot 0.77.
There appears to be an updated hboot in the May OTA update. You can find the file for the upgrade at the link. I will try this out and post an update.

Ok, but what steps do we follow to upgrade hboot to 0.79 so that we can install the 2.2 OTA update?
I thought .92 hboot was out.

0.92 (or something in that range) is the version that comes with Froyo 2.2. We are talking about trying to get to Froyo 2.2 while maintaining root. When I reverted to the May OTA to upgrade from version 0.77 to 0.79, that did the trick for the upgrade. Unfortunately, step 5 in the thread post by k.electron in the "[Q] Want root AND want OTA" thread does not work. I guess I undid the root work when I reverted. Now all I get after step 5 is my phone shakes at me 5 times when I try to go into hboot. Fortunately, I can still boot my phone regularly after a battery pull. BTW, when I say "May OTA" I mean the rom version 1.22.605.2 at the link I posted earlier.

Should we host this file here? I don't want to cause adrynalyne any bandwidth issues with a direct link to his page.

That is the HTC diagnostic mode when it vibrates multiple times. S-off unlocked it. SEARCH THE FORUM it is a common problem.
Thanks for the reply, ToyTank. I haven't looked up what the correct way to get out of diagnostic mode is yet, but I will give one final update.
I tried to reflash (ruu) the 605.2 rom and it failed. However, in the process it got me back into hboot mode. I then noticed that I was still in s-off mode. I switched to using the appropriate directions on this thread:
Condition 3, in particular
I skipped the installing 2.2 part since I had that already (from Verizon) and the rest went great. Now I am running OTA 2.2 with s-off and root.
Can someone recommend a 2.2 rom w/o all the crapware from Verizon?
Thanks,
Akh
Instead of loading a different ROM, get Titanium Backup and remove the apps you do not want.

[Q] HTD Desire 2.29.405.5 update - how?

I have an O2 Desire that's been unbranded and can't process this OTA update. I've downloaded a version from another thread and tried going via the Recovery Mode process, but this fails... also, I note that the version in the thread posted on 27th Jan is only 5Mb, whereas the OTA is 29Mb.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or a source for the OTA download? I've seen numerous threads with the same problem, but no resolution.
Thanks!
What does it say when it fails? My first guess is that it is failing because of the CID? I am still confused with debranded and unbranded phones.
Debranded phones can't update to 2.29.405.5, even with a gold card, using the OTA. Seems Google have changed something in the update. The only way is to use the RUU
Thanks... I just didn't want to have to go through the hassle of backing up and restoring everything again
If I'm going to do this - and I guess this is a different thread - is there a way to flash the Desire to vanilla Android - no sense, no HTC add-ons etc?
You need to root first and then flash a stock Android ROM

[Q] Official Update Not Working

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Read this thread, it tells you how to get back to 2.2 stock, then download the latest Unrevoked to root again and obtain s-off...

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!

[q] help! Please! (and yes i searched)

I need to bring my phone back to sprint I tried all UNROOT methods but my USB is broke and when I try to USE the PC36IMG.zip I get an error saying something like (update is older ect..) so I got the idea that if I flash a old rom before the updates and just update my phone it will unroot me but the problem I cant find a flashable rom thats old since we moved on so much since the EVO came out???
I just had to do this two days ago. You need an updated image file, it's posted in the unrooting thread in this forum. I'm on my cell so it'll take me a while to post a link. Give me a minute.

They only look for the superuser application. Flash a stock rooted rom. Remove the superuser app and you will be good to go.

Unless they see his s-off in hboot.
They know to check the bootloader. Just install one of the official ruu to unroot. Simple as that. I've done it.
Official RUU
Just flash an official ruu and you will be good to go. You can find them all over the place in here.
3.70 (latest RUU)
Below is a link to the very latest RUU possible so that you're phone can be brought back to stock status without root. I would recommend flashing the S-On tool also which I'll post as the second link too. The first link is to the RUU. Good luck
Official RUU (will unroot your phone/rom)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874091&highlight=ruus
The Unrevoked S-On Tool:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
EDIT: Also, I was thinking, if the above won't work due to your USB issues, maybe you could flash another rom, a sense based rom, like from Flipz or someone, and then run the "system update" program from the phone and maybe it'll update you to the latest RUU using the OTA Update program. That may solve your issues for getting the phone back to stock status without SU app and without root. Then, if that works, I would reboot the phone in to the bootloader and check to see if it says S-off or S-on. If it says S-on, you're fine and ready to go to sprint. If it says S-off, download and run the unrevoked S-on tool I posted above. Hopefully you won't need USB for it to run properly, but hey, you never know. Either way, if it does, there's got to be a way to use a S-on tool out there that doesn't need USB access. Hope this info helps you out in any way possible
EDIT #2: Read the stuff in this post to help with things if the above won't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141&highlight=ruus
When it says to connect USB and put the files on the SD Card, just use a card reader via a laptop or something to put the files on the SD Card and continue on.
I have taken my phone to sprint service centers 3 times. 2 speaker replacements, 2 screen replacements, a camera lens replacement (combined with a screen replacement, and they replaced the whole front of the phone - no more dents all around the shiny black bezel).
I always insisted they not replace the phone, as I wanna keep my 0002 HW. My phone was root with custom rom, but with a ''back to stock" theme flashed on it (thanks Virus)
My bootscreen is black (not white) with white evo 4g text, so, as soon as they turn my phone on it's obvious it's custom.
I know this isn't as helpful as previous posts, I'm just saying worst-case-scenario flash a stock theme and you'll probably be fine. I've had more than one tech tell me 'as long as you try to make it look stock, make the effort, that's good enough'.
Especially given that it's a hardware related issue, rather than a SW issue - I mean, they wont blame root access for your USB port not working.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted either way.

How old of a ROM are you looking for? There are plenty of 3.30 Software roms. Myn's RLS4 is 3.30 software, RLS3 is 3.29, etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8341836 That's a link to Myn's thread. Look in post #3, all of his older releases are linked there. Also, if you look in Myn's Signature, there's a link to OTA Supersonic 3.29, stock, rooted base rom.
With all that said, I don't think that will remedy you're 'main version older' problem. I believe it checks your hboot version, or radio versions or something. Not the actual software version. I could be wrong, but I believe that's the case. I would try a couple of the different PC36IMG's in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu. It has all of the recent versions. If thew newest PC36IMG doesn't work, try the next older one (3.30) etc. One of them is bound to work for you. Good luck.
Some people have a 2nd Gmail account that isn't tied to any root apps incase the techs at sprint get nosey and look where they shouldn't be....
.........at 8 am today someone poisons the coffee....do not drink the coffee. More instructions will follow.
Cordially,

may be late to the party, but check out some of these theres a **** load of old ROM's lol...

When I did unroot, I restored my nandroid from before I installed ota 3.70, then unistall superuser (won't go away if you do a wipe), once your good to go, then use ra recovery to flash the official 3.70 ota, don't reboot once that completes, then flash s-on, then reboot you phone. I would recomend pulling ur sd card before taking it in, and doing a data wipe just to make sure all signs of root are gone

Where did you try downloading from? I've never got a corrupted one from the link I posted above. Did you try redownloading? Do you have a good internet connection?

need help updating!

hi, when the original 2.2 update came out for the evo i was scared of updating because i figured there would be errors, but a long time has passed since then and i am now trying to update and my phone cant find it when i try to search through the settings-search for htc update. my evo is still on its stock 2.1, and i want to be able to update without any data loss and without having to hard reset. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Are you not rooted then? You can get the update on htc website. Or there's a thread in development with the newest RUU to update, if your rooted it's a different process
i am not rooted, i just didnt update since i got my phone lol
where can i get that update on their site? and how do i install it?
Htc website, choose support, choose Evo, then click downloads, will give you 3? Htc sync, a user manual and the recent software update
Edit : htc website showing 3.29, current is 3.70.
Try settings- system update then both htc update and firmware update
it explains how to install the download from the phone by doing the htc update thing but the problem is, is that it doesnt find anything when i do the search and there is no download link on the site
it says no update is available both from the firmware search and the htc software update check
have you thought of calling sprint and see if they can push it to your phone via ota
