Supersonic? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why has the evo been so frequently referred to as supersonic?
Sent from HTC EVO 4G via xda app

It is HTC's internal name for the Evo. I guess they decided to change the name but, from what I've seen, most of their phones have multiple names.
The Desire HD is aka the HTC Ace, the Desire Z is HTC Vision(I think), etc

Honestly, I like the name Supersonic much better than Evo. I kind of wish they would have just kept the name.

I agree. Luckily, the phone doesn't say Evo anywhere on it... So as far as I'm concerned, I will continue to call it the Supersonic.

Supersonic must refer to how fast it goes! And it says evo when you boot up lol

Thunderbolt ROM booting on EVO --> Inc next ??

I see that the Thunderbird ROM uis booting on the EVO.
I'm guessing it could mean we could see that ROM ported to the Inc ?
Are any Dev's considering this ?
I could not find it in the Evo thread, could you point it out?
I thought the Thunderbolt was supposed to be similar to the Desire Z style of Sense, just with a few Verizon specific apps.
Am I wrong?

It's very similar, but its a cdma version so it should be more stable plus it probably has some new optimization to make it faster

Ah, I'm from Texas also, a town on the outskirts of Houston to be exact. I haven't came across many people that know what a ROM is. Also, shouldn't this be in the Q&A section?

Cos there's no overclock. Once HTC release the (hounds) kernel source the ROMs will be as fast as the Froyo Sense ROMs. Not as fast as CM6/7 though cos it has to run Sense in the background.
'Tis the route we take.
Wrong forum, moved to Q&A
I live in austin and don't know a single "cowboy". You make it sound like texas is full of idiots dude..unless you are into modding, know someone, or read tech posts like engadget, gizmodo, etc etc you aren't going to know what a rom is no matter where your geographical location is. Or they will think its a game rom like nes and psx because they used the word rom many years before android.

new phone...

hi there
i'm a happy owner of a HTC Desire, but i'm looking for a new phone...
after some research i focused on two device:
HTC Sensation (300€ used)
PRO:
-CPU underclocked
-Look (IMHO)
HTC EVO 3D (300€ new)
PRO:
-3D (which means better screen)
-RAM
both will remain stock for about 5 minutes..
which would you reccommend?
thanks in advance
I would only replace my desire with HTC one. Maybe also desire s.
HTC one x. quadcore phone check on HTC site
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
HTC one x is around 700€...is more than double the devices i mentioned!
From those two, id get the Evo 3D just because i find the 3D pretty cool (yet a little bit gimmicky.)
Also its going for just over £200 here which is about 230 euros i think so maybe look around and see if you get it cheaper. Ebay?
the cheapest evo in ebay is around 400€ in italy!
this (www elettrotop com/ElettroTop/SchedaArticolo.action?articolo=0128441) is the best price i've found...
just a question...
the sensation cpu is 1.5ghz underclocked to 1.2ghz...what about the evo's one?

Are you talking about Sensation XL or what? Where did you get that information about underclocking?

If I were you, I will check the XDA or other forums for your future phone. Without checking, I think Sensation would have more roms to play with. 3D phones aren't that many, only 2.

i've read somewhere that the only difference from sensation and sensation xe/xl (same hardware) is the clock of the cpu..1.5ghz for the xe/xl and 1.2ghz for the basic one...

yes..this is a point for the sensation..however i don`t like ports...maybe with the ics rollout the modding scenario will grow!!

Ye, but those are single core cpu, at least in the XL case. Sensation has dual core processor at 1.2ghz.
Basically you could consider XL as overclocked DHD.

At this point Sensation is just shy of one year old. Modding community can go only towards being worse.

Some of the desire devs, like robocik or baadnws, moved to the sensation after getting the phone. So I'm sure they'll maintain it for some time, but as quoted, it is already going to be 1 year soon. Same with EVO 3d. But for EVO 3d, if there are only 2 roms, there probably won't be more.
I'm thinking since ice scream sandwich is an overhaul of android that the HTC one, galaxy nexus, gs3 would be a good choice.
If ur only choice are those two tho, make sure there is a Rom you like for that phone. Specs and screen are nice, but you'll be dealing with the interface a lot too.

Robocik and baadnwz jumped over to the dual core scene as soon as they went retail. I'm inclined to believe that it will be the same with quads.

well...i've bought the HTC Evo 3D....
I've found a ROM that fit my needs...and maybe the lack of ROM for the GSM version will force me to try to make one for myself!

BootManager

Anyone tried (with success) to dual or triple boot ROMs on the captivate glide?
What's that? We will be able to change boot animation on INC3PTiON v2 or whatever it's going to be called

Its supposed to allow you to keep several ROMs installed at once without wiping each time you switch to a different one. Kind of like dual booting Windows and Linux on your computer. Never tried it myself but it sounds nice for testing different ROMs without wiping/flashing. Unfortunately, the market description itself says specifically that BM doesn't work with any Samsung devices not listed, and ours is not.

My old sony ericsson xperia x10 had bootmanager... Being able to have two roms installed wasnt that much useful unless you were a developer who needs to have a stable rom and a rom in test, although having 3 different recoveries was somewhat more useful

This is not original development, so it belongs in general.

HTC Evo Design?

Okay, I've searched on and off XDA for this. My GF has Boost Mobile (yeah I know) and got a HTC Evo Design. Will the roms, kernels and mods in this section be compatible? It's very confusing since there are many different versions of the Evo.
No they won't.

+1. Plus there is no forum for the HTC Evo Design on XDA.(That I could find) But if you google HTC Evo Design roms there are some out there.
Alright, thanks for replies.
