CM6.1 a2sd - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was just curious if a2sd was supported in 6.1 and if so how do you go about configuring it and partitioning your sd card, what settings to use ect? I have a 32gb card in my evo so I have room to spare new to this rom as I was a long time virusrom user and had never given a2sd much thought.
Also is it really needed what's the perks ect. I hate to sound like such a noob but then again that's what I am.

yeah, apps2sd is supported on ALL 2.2 roms. depends on the app though. you will find it in settings<CyanogenMOD settings. and not sure if you need to partition your sd card....honestly the only way you are going to fill your phones memory is if you download over like 300 apps and they all have HUGE cache sizes.

Ok so I now I know how to turn it on any know if I need to set up a partition or not? I know I'll never fill my phone I just like keeping my system clean. Anyone?

[Q] Low On space...argh!

OK, all the threads I've found about this are quite old.
I've been pretty good at managing the storage on my Desire, but now I have this warning permanently on and I can't bin any more apps.
When I list them, all the big ones are on SD, so what is munching my space?
I have my mail set to only carry the last 30 days. At this rate I'll be getting my XDA Serra out of the attic...
Browser cache or contracts if you have a lot of them. If not probably data associated with your apps.

Just install S2E from market.

And cache cleaner.
Better still, why not root the phone and install a custom rom as suggested. You can then run everything from a larger internal memory space, meaning a faster phone and no low memory warnings!
Root!
Data2Ext, A2SD+, CM7 H-Boot table, etc.
There are plenty solution for low on memory problem, and they are the main reason why I rooted my phone.
I just tried Data 2 Ext and partitioned my SD card as was told by the RCMixHD ROM thread, but after installing that ROM I get a Low On Space warning! Getting really annoyed with the badly tested roms out there. I mean really, so much for using the data2ext script when it doesn't even work!
I'm back to Redux. Only ROM that's actually STABLE. Too bad not having a HTC Sense keyboard on that rom.

It's a company phone so rooting is not an option, but thanks!

Question about partitioning.

Alright, so I finally partitioned my SD card in RA recovery. I allocated 1gb to the ext2 then upgraded 2 to sdext3. Then I flashed the Kingdom ROM, but when I look it says I only have 400mb of memory, aka the internal memory. Why didn't it flash onto my partition, and how do I check where my partition is?
Was wondering the same

Where something is stored and how it is used are two different things. Depending on your setup, ext3 will be where your 3rd party apps are stored, however, when an app is running, your device's internal memory is used. Is your device running fast and smoothly?

Ah so if I have 100mb left that's normal? And would you happen to know how I can check my partition through my computer? I know it's partitioned because my normal storage is now only 6.5 gigs.

That will depend on his many apps you've installed and how many are stored internally. As for checking your partitions, you should be able to do it via gparted if you have a Linux system & disk utility via a Mac, but it's been a long time since I've used a Windows PC so I'm not certain. I'm sure their are 3rd party apps available. Have you seen or tried the link2SD app? Check it out here: https://market.android.com/search?q=link2sd&so=1&c=apps

[Q] No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.

Does anyone else have this problem? This happens when I make a nandroid backup. I just want to make sure that this is not something that will hurt my phone or keep me from being able to restore a rom. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanksyall

I believe a nandroid only backs up your internal sd card. Its nothing to worry about. It wont hurt anything and wont cause any problems restoring a backup.
That means you don't have sd-ext is present on your sd card. EXT is simply a partition of a sd card so that you can dedicate the space to apps. Example, if you have a 2GB SD card and you partition your card to so that the 1GB will be available to apps. Other 1gb you can access it on explorer to store files, etc
Thanks for the info. How do I go about fixing it?

You don't need one....you aren't fixing anything.
EXT used to be used back in the days of the G1 because it had limited space. Now a days, phones have a ton of space and it is not really an issue.
OK. Still confused ...what do I need to do to have my sd-ext recognized.?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
You don't need to do anything. Its OK because the phone already has enough memory. This is for phones that don't have a large amount of memory. For example, the HTC G1 had like ~85 MB of memory for apps. So one had to create a separate partition on the memory card, EXT 3 or EXT 4 with at least ~500 MB to store more apps. With this phone, we get about ~1.90 GB. So there is no need for that. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's attempting to back up something that no longer needs to be backed up because the information that was previously stored there is now being stored on your internal sd which IS being backed up. You don't need to do anything or worry about it, everything on your phone is being backed up except your external sd card (which no flash should touch and thus shouldn't need to be backed up). We all get the same message, it's nothing to worry about.
Wow lmfao this is comical xD answer the dude 3x n he still disnt get it xD
U want it fixed? Boot to cwm, Reformat sdcard, wen it asks for ext size put 512, swap size 0, issue "fixed" basicly useless tho on this phone, n the ext will probably b slower then the system storage, but u obviously want it to stop showin onn the log so there ye go, done
OK. Thanks for everybodies help.

Ok...what on Earth?

So, I've been flashing roms since February, and I am starting to see several random issues all of a sudden.
On a fresh flash of a rom that I have used for a LONG time, I suddenly have force closers on the Weather Unlock animation. My phone reboots randomly (I posted about this issue in rigid detail a few months back). I tried a different Sense 3.5 rom, and I suddenly cannot change certain settings. So, what's going on?
I've also noticed this strange behavior. When I flash from rom to rom, occasionally it will either have the background of the rom before, or the background of the last time that I flashed the same rom. I wonder if "footprints" are being left behind somehow.
And of course, I triple wipe everything, sooo...any opinions/ideas/help?
Using Smelkus 4.3 recovery, by the way.

Remove everything from your SD and format or partion, then if your still having issues go to recovery - other - fix permission and see of that helps. What size and class is your SD?

Well the second thing about the wallpaper that is because you have it set to backup your settings. If you go to settings>privacy check backup then uncheck automatic restore then uncheck backup. So everytime you flash a rom skip through all the start up menus and do what I said above. Having that backup thing checked is linked to your gmail so whenever you signed in it would automatically restore your previous settings

It's a 32gb card, and I don't remember the class. I'll edit my post in a few with that info. But I had those problems before and after my recent format/partitioning of my card. It IS less frequent after the partition, though.

Wow...never thought about that. Strange how it was always checked, but NEVER worked up till recently. It also restores my installed apps, but at a slim chance of success. Usually, I flash, link my email initially, and nothing happens. I've only sren this implemented properly on JB roms, regardless of device.

The class 10 shouldn't be a problem, but anything more than 16GB I think may be the problem. Wasn't the evo made only for a maximum of 4/8GB??
Also buy a recognised brand (e.g. Sandisk) to reduce any problems.
I have a Toshiba 16GB Class 10 and so far has played nicely. *touch wood*

I think that the Evo was made for a max of 16gb. But it certainly seems like my sd card is the problem. My original 8gb card became corrupted when my phone dropped (yes, it made me cringe, too...it fell pretty hard...), and I thought a 32gb card was the best idea I ever had. Apparently not. Sucks...but I'm not getting a new card.

I am using a2sd. However, my card wasn't always partitioned, and I had some rebooting issues before the card was ever modified. I am not disregarding what you are saying, but I think the problem goes beyond a2sd. I will confirm, however, that I have had more problems from the time I partitioned my card. But the benefits far outweigh the issues. For example, I LOVE the fact that I can flash a new rom and use Titanium Backup to Batch Install all of my apps without starting and stopping to move them to the sd card for more space.
I use an 32 gig class 4 SanDisk and have never had any problems with it. And on another note, if you're partitioned, when you flash a rom, and are on smelkus just do superwipe and clear temp. Files (aka cache, dalvik cache, and temp. Files) then when you flash your new rom all your apps will still be there as that partition hasn't been wiped. As long as the rom you use supports a2sd. All you have to get back is app data. a nice feature that I love, and have never had a problem with so far.

No doubt it's a real hassle when our internal space is small. There really seem to be too many possible causes, sucks. But i'm on the turbo kernel.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Thanks for all of your responses. The problem has since been solved after I had flashed a new rom. I must say, I was fascinated by the smoothness of gb roms after having chased the latest versions of android for the past idk how long.
