So i just did the 3 step root and im at the clockwork mod recovery screen
There is different stuff to choose and i have no clue what to select?
Can someone please direct me to what to do next this is my first android phone and i have no idea how to load a rom or what i should be doing next
thanks in advance
Well are you hoping to flash a custom ROM? If so, you'll need to download the ROM and copy it to the root of your SD card. Then when you boot to recovery, choose the options to wipe data, wipe cache, and then install a zip from SD. If you want to back up your phone, choose the Nandroid option.
You got pretty far without knowing how to complete your journey.
so if i click nandroid that will back up what my phone is set at now?
what is a good custom rom to use ?
I would like to have wifi tether but do not have 4g and probly wouldnt use it very often, i read something that there was a stock rooted rom? I also do not want to lose my camera?
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Evo_ROMs
Then just read up on the dev pages/threads for the popular ROMs. I use Fresh 1.0.1 with the netarchy 3.7.3c Fresh-compatible kernel (haven't switched to the new one that just came out today). Camera works great, wifi tether app is built-in. If you want that, download both (just search here), put them on your SD card, reboot to recovery, and flash the ROM, then the kernel. You don't have to flash a new kernel or even radio if you don't want to, but everything is installed the same. Usually reading a couple of pages for each ROM will tell you if there are an problems. Other options are the stock rooted ROM, DamageControl, Baked snack, or there are a couple of new ones for Froyo as well, but they have some features left out (like 4G, wifi, MMS . . . depends on the ROM).
Nandroid (or, inside Android, ROM Manager) will make a system image for you, saving everything exactly as it is. To restore, boot to recovery and choose the correct options for that. Should be pretty self-explanatory.
Always wipe data and cache before flashing, and it's a good idea to search Google for Cyanogen's recommendations for recalibrating your battery (it's on his wiki). Just don't flash a stock, non-rooted ROM or any OTA updates that Sprint tries to push on you. Always get something that the devs here say is safe for rooted phones.
Hope that clears some things up for you.
I am on stock 2.2 rooted using unrevoked3 & unrevoked forever.
I do not have cm6 or netarchy kernel only stock 2.2 rooted.
I am have tried almost every suggestion on getting the hulu app or hulu.com to work on my evo.
I have uninstalled flash 10.1
deleted com.adobe.flashplayer from /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins
deleted libflashplayer.so from /system/lib/libflashplayer.so
installed flash 10.1 from market
uninstalled flash 10.1 from market
installed flash-fixed.apk
change uastring to desktop
Flashed stop working completely after this. No hulu app, no flash on any web page. The only way I am able to get flash working on any site is to reinstall flash from market.
Any one with the same set up successful.
Try a nand restore to before you did all that. All that I had to do was uninstall flash player by using Titanium Backup, installed the fix-flashed and then install the hulu app. Works fine for me. Oh and I view hulu by using the hulu app, it sounds like you are trying to view it from the browser with the mention of desktop ua string.
Finally got it working after I ran into the same prob did 2x complete wipe (data, cache, davlik cache) then restored back to fresh from the ava Rom (used instructions and files from that thread)
Then flashed the hulu.zip
Then installed the flash Apk
It worked... I'm on fresh 3.1.0.1

Can someone clarify if this is the case.
SO I thought my phone wasn't working so I went from my wonderful miui to stock gingerbread via one click odin and now I can't install ANY roms or installs from recovery. I have no freaking clue what to do because every time I click install from drive or whatever it says, it works for a second then show the droid icon with the ! I currently don't have service but I still want to be able to use my phone for music, pics, and games! *me sad *
Did you install CWM using the Auto Root package, Option C? Depending on which one-click ODIN, you may or may not be rooted, but will have stock recovery.
Stock recovey won't install custom ROMs.
ok so I appear to be rooted but it is stock recovery. So can you point me to what I need to install to get a gingerbread with cwm recovery whether an all in one or a kernel or what have you so I can then install MIUI??
I would suggest you unroot back to stock, then re-root,qbking has some really good videos with all the links under the videos.
ok, but where do I find those? I tried looking in general and didn't see anything..... I'm out of it today
I just looked at some of his videos today

please i need help with my phone is going crazy. after i root and flash my first deodex room( i follow every single steps guys) my msg app and web browser are crashing like crazy everytime im texting or browsing anything it crashes like crazy, the apps just dissapear, either the msgs app or internet browser. then i mobile odin stock room, and took the phone to sprint, they reset the phone( great) everything was good and stable they told me the apps were crashing because i had install 3rd party apps ( i say to my self, 3rd party apps, bro phone was rooted but stock deodex) well everything was normal until i get home again and root my phone, stock odex rooted(no problem) then i flash all the great custom rooms we have for this beast,(blazer,sonic...etc) no luck, im stock on cm10 because if i go back to odex none of the custome apps work because they are for deodex rooms, the funny thing is my girl have the same phone running team sonic room since day one and eveything is good, smooth, no fc, no crasing apps, so please if any other member have the same problem and found a solution, ill appreciate ur help, because i like stock features, but in my phone they crash, please help, and thanks for ur time...
Are you doing Factory Reset/Data wipes when flashing new ROMs
Also what type of "3rd Party" apps are you installing? May be a rogue app
One more thing, just so I'm clear, on Regular stock firmware (not rooted) everything is fine, but when you root and install custom firmware the crashes come forth?
What about just stock/rooted? Do you get those crashes after flashing CWM Recovery and SU on the stock ROM?

When I install a rom, I wipe data, wipe cache, then go to mounts and storage and format system, that will guarantee the cleanest install.
yes guys i always do a clean/fresh install...
when im on stock "odex" im good, stock rooted odex room, im good too, the msgs and internet browser app start crashing as soon i flash a deodex room, i have no idea why, i did the same process on my girl s3 nothing happen, and like i said i try flashing blazer, team sonic, etc and all they crash on my phone, but stock odex room/ rooted odex no crash so ever...i dont know if my phone scare of deodex room im going crazy

about the 3rd party apps, thats what the sprint tech said, but i never install a real 3rd party app, just flash the custom rooms...thanks for the reply
Maybe try wiping data after you install the rom
I really wanna use this kernel/custom kernels, but I give up! Constant force closing and crashes for me Now I'm wondering, did I do something wrong during the root process? I rooted my device a couple weeks ago using this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1771687 (Root without tripping flash counter), followed by flashing Team Sonic's TouchWiz Rom, and then now, recently as of a little over a week ago I started using Cyanogen Mod 10. Did I miss a step in between which is causing so many problems with installing a custom kernel on my phone? Lean kernel worked earlier around the 8/20-25 nightlies, but now everything's pretty much a bust
It's a T-Mobile GSIII
No you didn't do anything wrong. A lot of the kernels aren't updated as fast as kernel changes in CM. Have you tried the latest nightly with the latest LK?

I've tried all the latest kernels. Every kernel I've tried is compatible with the ROM I've tried it on.

if it was me, which btw am running CM10/LeanKernel, I would use odin to flash back to a rooted stock app, then install NEWEST CWM, and try again, I have had no issues EVER using the combo's that you are using. Also, I NEVER flash a kernel on a new rom until the rom has booted correctly, then reboot and flash whatever compatible kernel.
Good Luck.

Okay I'll do that, but tell me this. How did you come to CM10 exactly? What steps did you do? I want to see if you did something different from me and I may have sent wrong somewhere.
I simply rooted installed freegs3, wiped data and caches and all, then I flashed cm10. Was that the wrong way? Should I go back to stock and restart the process? Because right now for one, custom kernels are giving me strange issues. Also, a ktoonz kernel dev told me my log cat pointed towards corrupt partition or Rom, but I'm using cm10
How do I go back to stock basically? Can you link me to some guides and/or videos? I'm on the T-Mobile galaxy s3. The reason I ask is because I'm mobile and can't search for some reason but I'd like to read up on it before I do it

I started here, READ EVERY LINE in a separate window, so you can reference back in forth between the windows. And do it STEP BY STEP. Once you are rooted and using the stock rom, back that up, so you can revert back to if you crash, once you have those 2 done, get the newest copy of Clockwork, install it. (by the way, the flash counter will tick you using Odin) so make sure you wipe the tick counter before installing any custom roms. Now get CM10 from the thread, install, do not flash the kernel until you have booted the first time, then reboot to recovery and flash kernel of choice. then your set. Now these are MY DIRECTIONS ONLY! and worked for me. So anyone want to add, feel free, or if I missed something, but do NOT slam me for trying to help, again this worked for me, may not for others, but it has been flawless for me. Hope this helps good luck.

Thanks for the input! I just wiped everything properly, other than odining back to stock again because that wasn't really necessary I thought since I did everything right, maybe? Well, I don't know lol. I don't have time to go back to stock atm, so I wiped all things including external/internal sd, used superwipe and just flashed a touchwiz rom, by xquizit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843409 UVALH2 and flashed the kernel for touchwiz by ktoonz and it is running smooth and solid. So, now, I'm going to go back and flash CM from scratch superwiping and all because I have now confirmed ktoonz's kernels work, and for some odd reason it wasn't working with my CM setup, so I'm going try it again from start and see if it works on CM, and go from there. I'll report back either ways in case anyone is having this problem. If I still have the same issue back on CM, I'll live with it or come back to touchwiz. I kinda like it Weird. Haha, but either ways, I'll keep yall updated! I'm wondering if I need to/should flash the UVALH2 radio/baseband since I"m on a UVALH2 ROM though.
Use this kernel it works perfectly on CM10

Now I am a tad confused, you have UVALH2 on the phone already, and you want to flash UVALH2? or did you typo? I am no dev, but from what I have been seeing, the radio should not matter at the moment, if I am wrong, someone please set me straight, also, I will be on the web all night and tomorrow, so I will help where ever I can, I will check here for your progress. Good luck my friend.
BTW, I do not like stock roms, so to me CM10 is for sure better. Faster also.
There is no wrong way to root. I bought my phone, didn't even set it up. Downloaded the toolkit, rooted and flashed a custom recovery, then flashed CM10. You didn't miss any steps, and you didn't do anything in the wrong order.
Your radio and ROM do NOT have to match.

Yeah, I know all this, but I wanted to ask in case I may have missed something. Even when you're pretty Android savvy when it comes to rooting and whatnot, you do miss things on occasion. In this instant I didn't, but I was hoping I did because a bunch of custom kernels won't work on my phone with CM10! Trinity worked well, so I'm waiting for those. It must be some specific chip related issue because I'm not the only one. Anyways, thanks everyone!
