Some of us are stuck with a flawless leaked froyo but worth a dead GPS.Finally got mines to work. Here's the steps.
1: with clockworkmod flash this stock zip.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/stock.epic.DI18.rom.update.zip
2: boot up, then reflash froyo. Gps got a look in 6 seconds.

Flashed to 4.2 from 4.1 in which I had a stock epic rom but just rooted. 4.1 had dead gps, so I dumped 4.2 to see I'd the fix was there. Nope. Rewiped data and clear all cache on the 4.2. Did that 3 times and still dead gps. Reformatted and clear cached and dumped 4.1. Did that 3 times, and still dead gps. Many have commented to flash back to stock and reflash 4.2 afterwards. Did that with clockworkmod and gps took about 4 to 5 seconds with gps lock.

Thank you! Trying this now.
Edit: Reporting in
I wiped everything, installed the DI18 update, installed froyo, and no go on the gps.
I wiped everything, installed DI18, booted and wasn't getting a get a lock (at least not quickly). So I rebooted DI18, and this time got a good lock. Then I shut down, flashed 2.2, and it works!
If anyone has trouble, make sure to boot into DI18. I did twice just to make sure I had a lock and good assistance data since the 2.2 zip doesn't wipe everything. I'm going to go back and flash my /data back now and check once again. As long as GPS still works after that, I'm set.
Thanks, SINNN.
Tried this method and was still not able to get a GPS lock. Wiped everything x3 between flashes. Still no lock with Sprint Nav or Google Nav.
This won't do ****. Read up on the bug that causes the problem and you will understand.

Ok. If this fails like some have said.Do these steps and its guaranteed to work.
1: with clockwork data format, clear cache and clear danluk cache, then flash dl18 stock that I linked inn the 1st post.
2:boot into stock 2.1
3:Get google maps to lock on gps.
4:Shut down. Boot into clockworkmod. Format data, Clear cache, clear danvik cache. Then fo back to the first menu on clockworkmod and flash the froyo 4.2 zip file. Once flashed.Just for extra luck, stay on clockwork and do the data format, clear cache and finally clear the danlik cache.
5: Finally boot 4.2. Go to the market and get "gps status & gps toolbox" combo app thats free.
6: Turn your gps on and launch the gps status app and under settings go to clear gps cache and redownload new data.
7: launch NAV or google maps. You WILL get a lock almost under 4 seconds.
Just did these steps on my gf Epic wich had the same gps problem after rooting and flashing the first leak froyo and them flashing the 4.2 froyo.
Now she has GPS.

Gmaps, GNav and Sprint Nav all worked. The real test is will it still work a few days from now after I've used it a few times... That cache bug is liable to show its ugly face.
Thanks for your help!

Booting into DI18 and acquiring a lock seems to be the necessary part of this. I've been flashing things all day and as long as I boot into DI18 and get a GPS lock in GPS Status, I can flash 2.2 directly over it without wiping anything before hand. Then boot into 2.2 and gps should work. Going back and flashing /data will bring back all your apps and settings and gps should continue to work as it did on mine.
This "Fix" only works for about a day or so, then it goes back to nothing / takes forever to acquire a lock.
Just curious, I do this on mine and it seems to work.
1) Reboot the phone
2) go to Settings --> About Phone --> System Updates --> Update Profile AND PRL
3) try again
It just doesn't make sense how it can work so good sometimes, then just stop working.

If it does you could try
##GPSCLRX#
and use your MSL code (getprop from terminal and search for it) to reset the GPS which might clear the cache since the old "cold start" GPS menu code is not working.

My droid incredible has been having some major problems with any GPS-related functions when flashing to custom ROMs. I've tried CM7, OMGB, OMFGB, and MIUI so far. The GPS worked great in OMGB and OMFGB after updating the radio, but when I tried this on CM7 and MIUI (both of which seemed much smoother and refined), no dice. I've also tried completely reflashing the rom (yes, I did wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache), uninstalling WeatherBug, flashing 4 different radios (4.08, 11.19, 5.02 and 5.06) as well as reflashing the original stock 7.28 radio, and even tried that fix through a sense rom where you dial some ## number and then enter some MSL number. That didn't seem to work for me, the call didn't even go through. No matter what I try, I can't seem to get GPS to work on either of the custom ROMs that I love. Major bummer, because I used GPS daily on stock 2.2 Froyo before rooting my phone. I'd appreciate any help at all on this issue and I really would like to get my phone's GPS functionality working again.
P.S. - I've already spent countless hours searching XDA as well as other forums about this issue, and the above list of troubleshooting steps is what I've come up with so far. Please don't lecture me with a useless response such as "Use the search function" as I have already done so. Thanks
Seems like you've done your research. Have you tried an app titled "GPS Status & Toolbox" in the market?
Just tried that app but no luck. I tried clearing the current GPS settings and then downloading new ones. Anything I'm missing?
I only saw mention of AOSP roms, did you try using *228 on a Sense rom? I'm not sure if there's a difference performing this on an AOSP rom but I recall folks saying to do that on a Sense rom. As you stated, GPS worked on two roms just not MIUI or CM7, which is weird. Have you returned to or are you currently using OMGB and OMFGB and retained your ability to use gps? I'm trying to rule out this being a hardware issue since you noted GPS failed on two of four roms.

Just reflashed OMFGB, and now GPS DOESN'T work?!?!?!?!? I've tried everything all over again, format SD card, reflash radio, I'm clueless.
Do you recall performing anything on your phone that may have messed with the gps? Do you restore system data at all with something like Titanium? My only other suggestion is to flash rmk40's gingerbread leak found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087077
The reason I'm suggesting is due to the 3G drop issue that people have fixed by flashing this. I'm doubtful, but maybe this could resolve the gps issue as well? Aside from this, I'm hoping another XDA member has suggestions/solution as it looks like hardware failure if you do not recall anything odd that caused the gps issues.

I do use Titanium to restore system data. I flashed from CM7 to MIUI and did a batch restore of EVERYTHING, and got a FC on android.process.acore. I reflashed MIUI and the FC problem was fixed, but GPS still did not work. After this I flashed back to OMFGB and even complete stock 2.2 with sense, still no GPS. I will try your suggestion above, however I'm doubting this is a hardware problem as my GPS worked fine before rooting my phone. I'm guessing I screwed up something to do with the software, I just don't know enough about the subject to make an educated guess about what I screwed up. Anyway, I'll try flashing that gingerbread leak and let you know. Thanks for all the help so far guys.

No luck. GPS still is not working.
Aight, well one thing is you are not supposed to backup/restore system data. Idk how deep it affects rom flashes but that is very likely the source of your gps issues. Have you flashed a rom without restoring anything and checking gps? With titanium you are supposed to backup user data. If you ask many dev's, they strongly discourage backing up system data.
1) flash a rom (step 2 is an option within Settings in gingerbread roms, idk about froyo roms)
2) if you want to completely start from scratch Cancel google restore by NOT signing into your google account upon initial setup. Go into Settings>Privacy and uncheck "Back up my settings" as well as "Automatic Restore."
3) sign into your google account and let it sync
4) test your gps
If you always restore system data through Titanium each time you flashed a rom PRIOR TO testing gps, this may have resulted in your problems.
I'd have to agree with slimsnoop, my first flash I made the mistake of restoring system data and everything went crazy wifi freaked, gps, repeated fc's. I'd try flashing then try gps, if its working then i'd restore apps one by one and see if any interfere with the gps. If that doesn't work then i'd go stock, master clear/factory reset and see how that goes make sure EVERYTHING important is backed up to your pc cause it will wipe it clean, if none of that works then i'd leave it stock and take it in for replacement or repair if possible.

Tried that on Cyanogenmod just now, and I unchecked "backup my settings", however "automatic restore" was checked and greyed out, I couldn't do anything about that one. Also, I had to sign into my google account in order to download maps so I could test it. So if google sync is interfering with the GPS I'm not able to stop it from syncing on a custom rom. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I've actually already tried a complete restore back to 2.2, as well as a factory reset once I"m already at stock configuration. I'll try that again tonight if I get a chance. Is there anything you can recommend when retsoring back to factory configuration? any hidden settings I'm missing that have something to do with the radio or GPS or wireless settings?
No the only settings I've found for gps is location for pics and stuff, besides a factory reset should of changed it all back anyways, i'd say its a hardware issue but seeing as two roms were working at one point and not now it kind of seems that maybe something isn't getting erased with factory reset thats catching you up, I'm not sure what the code is for yours but i'd try the actual master clear code. I read somewhere theres a difference between factory reset and master clear not sure if there really is though, and if you can find a secret code list there might be something where you can change the gps sat pool. When I get home tonight I'll do some digging and see if I can't find something to get this working for you

I do use the gapps package. It's also available on rom manager, however when you flash the gapps package it's basically multiple market links that take you to the apps of your choice so you can download the latest version. This requires you to sign into the market, which requires you to sign in to your google account =/
The only other solution I could think of is finding an .apk of the maps app, and doing that manually. I can't imagine that the google sign in is what is interfering with the GPS though. I'll try Jsmokey's suggestion and search for a master reset code, maybe that'll do the trick for me. If i'm flashing to the stock config the maps app is already included anyway. Thanks for the idea though.

No luck finding a "master clear code" on Google, but I did find that there is an option for factory reset in the hboot menu. Is this what you're referring to possibly? Also, is this different from the factory reset option in settings>storage while the phone is on?
UPDATE: Just called verizon, apparently they are out of stock of dinc's and are sending me a dinc 2! =D
Anyway, what steps can I take in the future to make sure I DON'T screw up my phone the next time in the first place (besides NOT restoring system data in Titanium)?

Yeah I wasn't sure if it had a master clear or not some phones do some don't, I can't remember if what you're talking about is different from regular factory reset or not its been a while since I played around with a droid inc. Glad to hear you're getting a replacement and an upgrade at that. Basically do searches for what you can back up and back up everything system related you possibly can, you can't be too prepared when disaster strikes.

Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Glad to be of service! Hopefully things work out on the DInc2 for you.
As far as warranty replacements go, the availability of DInc vs. DInc 2 depends on what they have in stock in your area. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if more folks received DInc 2's as replacements.
I just installed AOKP's ICS ROM and now I can no longer get a GPS lock?
I've been reading some threads and someone said that they had the same issue and that you have to activate your phone while on a GB ROM and get a GPS lock, then upgrade to ICS.
I'm not sure why that is the case, so I just wanted to confirm this information because doesn't flashing a new ROM wipe everything out anyway?
Flashing a new ROM does not get rid of everything.
I've flashed many and each time there is *some* system, app, and user data left behind.
Idk the ins and outs of it all though.
Good luck!

follow those directions. when in GB update prl, update profile, then get a GPS lock in maps, and directly from maps reboot without losing your GPS lock or turning GPS off. There's no need for reactivation, just a hard lock in GB.

Sweet! I was afraid I would have to wipe everything out, go back to GB, do all the "stuff" and then have to go back to AOKP ICS again. I hope this method works!
Have you done it already? Any caveats we should know about that maybe the author forgot?

I have done it many, many times. It works every time. I use the temporary EL29 to also update PRL/profile because AOSP doesn't have that feature yet. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly (there are some good warnings in the directions) and do what I said while in GB. If you turn off your GPS before rebooting, the fix may not work so reboot directly from maps while maintaining a GPS lock. I suggest watching an instructional video before attempting anything just so you have an idea of what you're doing.

If you have never used it, you need to download the mobile odin app and the D710 flash kernel and install them both. You can find the flash kernel for our phone in post 6.
Also, for step #9, you will have a black screen for several minutes the first time you do this so be patient!
Yeah your best bet is the temporary el29 to get a lock without losing your data

Just tried this and it works great, thanks to all.
Took me a while to dl everything and get this done correctly- but finally got my GPS up and running
Thanks guys!
Ok so I so I have suffered from authentication errors and ridiculously poor WiFi range since I rooted my phone. Or most probably since I flashed a custom Rom (omega) for the first time..
Now, after endless research and lots of trial and error (or as I say, terror) I have finally found a solution. Although this is NOT and ideal solution, it solved my problem. Not being able to use WiFi at work when I'm only around 7 meters from the server is an absolute no no for me! Especially twinned with the frustration of 30 attempts to authenticate and still having 70 odd % signal and yet no connectivity.
So here goes..
For me.. disabling power saving mode via *#0011# did NOT work.
Nor did flashing back to stock without root.
Flashing cm9 did NOT work.
Flashing stock did Not work. And full cwm wipe didn't work either. And all other combinations.
So by hard work, research into other threads, Lots of terror and pure luck. I fixed my problem.
Apologies if this does not work for you.. but if u Have simular problems to me. I'm sure it will work. So follow these steps
1. back up via android. Copy backup to pc if u try this and it doesn't work u cant go back to before. Also backup and apps or pics music etc to pc.
2. Download latest stock Rom with root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704185
Thanks to wanam!
3. full Wipe, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache. Flash latest wanam stock Rom. And repeat the wiping in recovery again. Full, cache and dalvik. Fix permissions.
4. Now reboot. And test if u still have the problem. As I did still. If not... yay you!
5. Do a hard reset. Yes a factory reset. NOT a full wipe via recovery. A reset via settings/backup and wipe/factory personal data reset. WARNING by doing this you will lose all app settings. All android backups and all data on internal storage. I believe this will also leave your ext sd contents unusable so ALWAYS backup to pc!
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 again. This made my WiFi range and connectivity problems
Disappear! Although I still had authentication errors
7.Then repeat step 5 and see your outcome. It's seems for me atleast, that a double wipe was necessary. I'm not sure about you guys.
I hope this works for you all!
Thank me if it did or If I've helped in anyway!
Happy to answer questions! Noob or not.

I put a stock Rom and rooted. Since then I got WiFi problems.then I flashed again the Stock Rom but I didn't root and it seems to work fine. Once after I've read your post I'm thinking about getting root again but maybe I'll wait to see if I have now OTA upgrades or I haven't (i wouldn't like to loss them .
Ok so I still have authentication errors. But only very few. And it's not affecting me. Seems strange that I am stock and I've reset. Must be faulty hardware. Surely. It's much better than before. Very usable. But still occasional errors. Someone must know more about this...

Hi,
I also got problems similar to yours, I believe.
I always flashed ROMs from sam mobile. Since the 1st one after the original, I was bound to use the #*0011# workaround.
I believe after I flashed CM11 recently wifi didnt behave ok anymore.
Then I wiped everything a lot of times (not as you suggested though), installed a lot of ROMs,
but wifi only connects within a certain range from the router.
There are a lot of glitches to that, as you may have noticed as well. For instance, the 1st time
you associate to a network, usually it connects straight away. After that, it's a nightmare.
But one thing that made me believe this is a rom/kernel/root issue, is this: you try and fail to
connect. Go to the service screen via #*0011#. The wifi module/process don't know the tech term,
is unable to show the bssid or even the ssid, although any play app can. That is very very odd.
Also, in this scenario sometimes when you can connect, #*0011# info is weird, like rssi -200,
speed -1Mbps, did you see those numbers too?
All in all, I don't think your solution is far fetched, it could really be needed multiple wipes and all.
I'm still trying another regions ROMs, like 4.3 Switzerland, and I plan to downgrade until something better happens.
Thing is, I already flashed the -original- ROM, which was ICS, but wifi was not ok. That is what
put me on defcon 1... lol...
Well, good luck for us...
cheers,

Thanks to JJE and d4seeker for there effort in trying to help me!

I'm currently using 9-20120907-EXPERIMENTAL-d710-beta1 on my Samsung Epic 4G Touch, and no matter what I try, I cannot get the GPS to work. In Google maps it can find my general location, but will not lock on. I have tried countless apps, videos, threads, and ROMS, if anyone can help me I will be abundantly grateful. I have also tried manually flashing the GPS drivers (found from the [FIX][AOSP][MIUI] All GPS fixes! link) and none of them worked for me, I kept getting a "Status 0" error.
I have flashed and restored more times than I can count, anyone with experience in this issue?
EDIT:
FIXED! Check post 6 for fix
can you get a lock on stock?

I'm running the same setup as you, and mine is working fine. I have only been rooted for two weeks, but during my reading, I remember others having this issue. One thing that was suggested is that in between the mobile Odin and cwm steps use something like GPS Status to lock on your GPS before you install zips. You might want to do a search to get the exact steps, I have done so much reading the past few weeks, I can't remember where I saw it. Good luck!
Had the se issue had to make a backup. The flash back to stock el26 get a GPS lock then flash back should work after that

I can only get a lock before flashing CM9, after flashing CM9 I did download the GPS Status & Toolbox app, however even with that I could not get a lock. Perhaps I was not doing something correctly? Again any input would be great.

So you're saying that if I restore, flash the EL26, open up Maps and get a GPS lock, then flash the CM9 ROM I should be good? I'll definitely have to try that when I get home.

You don't need to fully restore. Do this:
1. Setup multiboot rom. Use EL26 as it still works with the different kernels still. This link:
http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/2012/05/temporary-stock-e4gt-from-emmc.html
You basically going to setup the files, flash the directboot-cwm from mobile odin or regular odin. Then when that reboots into cwm, flash the boot_el26.zip file...
2. In the stock temporary rom you just booted, go outside and get a lock. once you have a lock, press and hold the volume+ and power button till the phone reboots while it has a lock.
3. the phone will reboot back to the directboot-cwm. Reflash your cm9 rom/gapps and clear dalvik/cache.
4. reboot. once it starts, try to get a lock again.

You, sir, are a god. I wish I could spam that "Thanks" button. Again, you are a lifesaver!
just temp flash to el29 using the emmc fix... get gps lock and then reboot. youll boot back into cwm. re flash your cm zip and you should have gps lock
Okay well I have search over 4 days on how to fix my gps with no luck and assuming that the newest leaks ruined it. All is okay because I have collobrated all main GPS pointers on how to get it back since there is not one major one here we go.
Before doing anything try a factory reset from settings and see if that helps you, or even use odin and go back to stock and factory reset from settings. Proceed if you still have problems.
Also note that some users report that clearing agps data can solve the problem.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PHONE!
[With no GPS icon showing up]
(OPTIONAL AND RECOMMENDED: USE Triangle Away to reset counter)
1. Flash back to stock UNROOTED ICS ROM
(Stuck at samsung logo after? flash a cwm recovery, factory reset and clear cache n reboot)
2. Enter into dialer *2767*3855# (Will do a HARD reset, no internal storage will be lost except the usual data)
3. Boot up again and run maps to see if you have a GPS icon
(IF YOU DON NOT HAVE A GPS ICON YOUR HARDWARE IS MALFUNCTIONING)
[With GPS icon showing but no lock]
4. Turn all GPS related thing OFF
5. go into google services framework in applications, settings, and clear data
6. go into maps, delete updates if any and clear data aswell
7. reboot the phone
8. Update google maps (very important)
9.reboot for safe measure
10. turn on everything in location and services in settings
11. boot up maps
12. profit
[If GPS is still flashing but no lock]
1. If steps1-11 does not work for you it is highly recommended to flash Galaxy S III Test 3 (created by crypted)
2. Factory reset trough settings and repeat steps 1-3 if not gps icon or steps 4-11 if gps icon flashes
3. profit
For flashing new ROMs after:
1. see if gps is showing up or not, if not then repeat steps 1-12 above and it is recommended not to flash the same rom that makes gps disappear
2. if gps icon is showing up but very inaccurate then repeat steps 4-11
3. profit.
Sometimes I noticed esp. on AOKP n CM10 n Paranoid if you just simple delete and reinstall a new maps it works (with gos icon showing ofc.
Some people asked about if mobile odin is usable when going back to stock, and yeah it is just be safe doing it and make sure it is the whole package.
Want a faster lock after? go here
Thanks to crypted for his aGPS work.
Sticky? Since ALOT of people have this problem on all ROMs...
OP updated with new info.
I added your content across my S3 posts for the aGPS Patch.
Thank you for helping out. A lot of people were being real assholes without really using their mental facilities to connect the dots.
This definitely clarifies the matter and proves that I'm not their issue. GPS no work, patch no work, no blame patch...eh? That's how I see it anyway...
Gracias.

I flashed unrooted stock and did the hard reset, then found out that all my things on my internal sdcard (pictures, music, downloads, nand backups) were all gone.
Pretty misleading, especially since "no internal storage will be lost except the usual data" is stated.
Backup the things you want to keep before doing this.

It doesn't.you must have gone in stock recovery and factory reset. That's how you format the internal. Don't blame me buddy.
Samsung says it won't format internal.
Me doing that code 20+ times before I found this method to work also proves that it doesn't.
Last factor that could have played out in this is you. Blame yourself.

DUDE!!!! a thousand thank you's to you my friend. Got my Freaking GPS working thanks to this post.
For those that may have same problem here is my story:
flashed a 747 graystone AT&T and restored Titanium back up. thats when GPS started not showing up. flashed another rom and nothing. when back to stock unrooted and upgraded to 4.1.1 and nothing. Then I say this post. Went back to original stock rom, got stuck at samsung logo, went into stock recovery using hardware buttons and performed both cache and factory wipe. was able to get thru the logo but no GPS. went into dial and put the # combo provided in step #2 and voila! you really have to go into maps WITH 4G/LTE ON! in order to check whether GPS icon goes on.
now back to rooting lol

I found that going from stock over to CWM10 sometimes breaks GPS... What I did to resolve the issue was wipe cache/data > Odin to stock rooted > Flash CWM10 again.
Worked for me! Hope it works for you! :good:
