Ads with endless sound... - About xda-developers.com

You probably are aware of this problem.
Nowadays there's hardly any website without ads. While this is generally acceptable, since they often depend on it, there are a few things which one should consider when allowing someone to put advertisements on your site.
Up till recently, the most annoying kind of ad was the one which blocked the whole site, as a fullscreen layer over the site - and in the worst case, with an [X] or [Close] button which is actually a link to the advertiser's homepage.
Why am I writing this now?
It's simple. While writing this, there's an advertisement in this forum, which is set to an endless loop, and keeps repeating the same sound over and over again.
Whereas I appreciate the fact that there are no fullscreen ads on this site, I think that audio-ads are an even more annoying kind of nuisance.
I know a screenshot doesn't show the audio played, but it's this ad:
Just thought I'd bring this up, because in my opinion such ads are unacceptable.
Even if you plan on keeping these kinds of ads, it may be worth considering making it play the sound once, instead of endlessly repeating "Play this crappy game, it's the game of the year..." (no that was not what it said.)
Best regards,
Blub.

What's even more annoying is the ads on the XDA Android app...

It's an app in the market that requires root. It modifies your phone's hosts file to redirect known ad URLs to 127.0.0.1, thereby preventing them from loading. It works on websites and in apps.

Funny that a phone website doesn't even have a mobile friendly version.
But just use the xda app.
Eh I just use the xda app, works great for me.

Yea; I like using.the XDA app... maybe a little more.than the actual site? There isn't any bs adds or anything aand I can just get content over the air, using virtually no.data at all.
Best forum app I have ever used.

I have that issue with the stock browser so I use opera instead.

Soon You Can Get Full Access to Rdio For Free, Without Ads

Hope they make a WP7 App, too, but at least there's an Android App. That will be nice, Lol. Just as I was actually starting to give Spotify a bit of consideration!!!
There's already a WP7 Rdio app.

From Rdio? They don't have it listed on their website. I dint tend to use third party apps for stuff like that...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yep. Just do a search in the Marketplace for Rdio.
And why post this in the wp7 forums if you don't think there is a WP app? There is, btw, published by rdio, btw.

Because if there isn't one, I want one once this launches?
That's pretty simple... Really...
I'd never heard of the service before I read that. That explains my ignorance of their app, and since I tend to use my Vibrant as a daily driver (hence the tag in my post) my HD7 was in another room and I wasn't about to get out of my bed just to check that.

Screenshots of your favorite multiwindow setup

Just curious. I see very few reasons to use this feature. I just hold home for to seconds and hop back and forth. Or copy and paste. What do you guys love it for?

Is it too late to modify the topic before it's flooded with tons of useless pics showing 2 apps running? No offense, but it's an idea as pointless as posting home screens or telling which color phone you bought.
Perhaps we would all be helped by elaborating on, "how have you gotten the most use or productivity using mw"

When I'm editing files on my phone per instructions of a developer, it is nice to have both root explorer open as well as a screen shot from gallery illustrating what needs to be done so I don't have to keep closing and opening the file editing app.

I find it makes it easier to copy text from an app (like browser) into an SMS/email etc without switching back and forth. Don't use it a lot but when i do use it, it's very useful and works very well.
For me it solves the problem of YouTube shutting down whenever the app is not in use. I listen to a lot of music there and many videos aren't even videos but just images with the audio playing. Now I fire up youtube in 1 section and open the browser or whatever else in the other and maiximize its size.
I use it while doing Google chat with people while also Web browsing.

Stupid question, but did you upgrade to the new Playstore using that file that was posted online? I have not seen any ads on the Google Playstore.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus GSM
I doubt it. If it happened, it might be a tampered app or another app could be pushing ads to your phone.
What was the ad for? Did you just happen to unknowingly tap the screenshot the app provides? lol. Google doesnt put ads in the play store. If it was in fact an ad, another app is causing it. Seeing as though you are playing games like Catapult King, I would think thats very likely. A lot of those games are very ad driven and will even put ads in your notification drawer. Try out the app called airpush detector. It will tell you what apps are creating ads. Although I think its mainly for notification ads. I've never come across a full screen ad except for Angry Birds of course. But that was within the app itself.
Highly doubt it... Google doesn't have ads in ANY of its Android apps.... I bet you clicked the main pic and it went full screen and you thought it was an ad

If you did d/l it from the Web, Why don't you clear data, uninstall the play store and use the version pushed from Google? I'm guessing you won't see an ad again.

[Q] Better YouTube app?

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the unofficial YouTube apps on the Play Store. The official YouTube app I use is terrible. Always buffering. Even on a strong wifi connection. YouTube through the browser works alright, but is less convenient. Anybody have any recommendations?

Ima register my interest here - since getting a tablet I've found i cannot watch HD vids due to buffering issues that don't exist in browser or on other devices using the same connection.
I never play strictly audio from YouTube as there are plenty of OTHER audio options I use on the M. When I'm on YouTube it's for videos. Heck the website works from my phone better than the app.

I know it's been a few months from the last response, but I feel like I should still reply in case you/someone else is still interested in a better Youtube app.
Viral HD Youtube Popup Player is the best Youtube app I've found for Android, far better than the official app. You can actually choose what quality video you want instead of HQ/HD and not HQ/HD, which is something about the official app that really annoys me. Also it doesn't shove recommended videos in your face when you start it, it instantly shows your subscriptions. The player interface also has much more usability (eg. changing the brightness/volume and being able to lock it) and it also has a neat feature to play the video in a popup window while you do other stuff (which isn't very useful in most situations really and you can disable it in the settings if you don't use it) or you can just have the video play in the background (which is really useful in case it's a podcast/music video).
It does have some bugs and missing features, which I'm sure will get fixed eventually, but in general the app looks really good and polished unlike most other unofficial Youtube apps.
(I was going to put a link to it in the Play store, but since I can't just search for Viral HD Youtube Popup Player and you'll find it)
PS. I've no idea if it fixes the buffering issue, I just had to share it since it's fairly difficult to stumble upon it in the Play store and it's just so good that it deserves far more than 100k downloads
