Calendar does not delete birthdays for facebook friends removed - Desire General

I have removed some friends from facebook, however, the calendar on my htc desire (froyo) does not delete entries for these people and still has their birthdays listed in the calendar.
I have tried re-syncing with no success.
Does anyone have a solution to resolve this issue?

HTC provided me with this lame solution:
The HTC Desire does not have an option to remove the birthday entries of your deleted friends. We recommend that you remove your facebook account from your phone and clean out and make sure you have removed the deleted friends from your facebook account on your computer. After that, please sync your facebook account again on your computer. If you still encounter the same issue, it would be best to contact the developers of facebook.

Its not like their birthday doesnt exist anymore, even if you're not their "friend" ;]

[Q] Birthdays shown twice on manila homescreen

Hello
Just a quick question
Few of my contacts are synced with my FB account.
I have birthdays synced with those FB contacts (with facebook only) and then this shows in manila homescreen. Always twice.
Example:
#14th November
-Svetlanka's Bday (All Day)
-Svetlanka's Bday (All Day)
Can this be fixed?
Thanks.

multiple bday only happens to me when i have sync it with eithr outlook, myphone, fb. they dont overwrite the current dates being set and just add another instance.
But in your case only syncd with FB, no I havent experienced it. Does it mean all ur contacts sync to fb that has bd are having duplicates?
Try outlook cleaner to delete all duplicate records.. works better than modaco dupe dupe
thanks guys...will try...
I have just realized that I use SPB Backup...so maybe when I restore my contacts and then then sync with FB, Bdays get there twice because of that...
Will try the outlook cleaner...dupededupe helped me a lot back in the days...we will see about this one thanks!
Multiple Birthday Displays.
Hi Guys,
I have a very strange problem with my HD. I sync only outlook on the phone for contacts and reminders.
Problem is, all the reminders appear 5 - 10 times on the phone. When checked with outlook, I had only one entry.
Not sure, what I did wrong here.
Here try the outlook cleaner to clean away multiple entries for task, reminders and contacts

Contact Picture

Hi,
I have an issue with my HTC Desire. I sync my contact with Exchange and Facebook. I have linked most of my contacts between Exchange and Facebook, so far so good. Then to my issue. I want to change the contact picture from the one from facebook to the one I have in Outlook. There is no problem changing it but it keeps changing it back to the one from facebook!?!
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
It's not a big issue but still...
Regards,
Andreas
You'd need to turn off the FB contact sync otherwise it'll keep going back
Is that by design or a bug?
I still want the link to facebook but I want to chose the contact picture...
Linking to FB will use their current profile picture, this is by design. You can sync a contact with FB, then turn off FB contact sync and change a picture and still keep the data (I think)

HTC Desire - Issue with contacts

I recently took delivery of my new HTC desire and am well pleased. However, yesterday I noticed something strange which has annoyed me a little
I generally store all my contacts on the exchange server. I synced the desire with the exchange server and it did download all mail, contacts and calendar. I noticed I could set the conacts widget to display contacts within a certain group, so I created a group called Favorites and edited frequent contacts so they appear in that group. I did this in outlook. Also around the same time, the desire linked them up with facebook and got the photos etc. So far, pretty cool
Now the annoying bit, checking my contacts in outlook again, I was horrified to see the entire Favorites group missing I checked my phone and the contacts were there. It is not in my google contact list. I can imagine that it has linked it to facebook or something. My question is how do I know the source for the contact now? I know I added a new contact yesterday and there was an option to specify if the contact should belong to my exchange account or the gmail one and as usual I always add it to my exchange account. Now when I view the new contact in outlook, it has a cateory of 'HTC Favorite' instead of just Favorite, even though the category in the desire says 'Favorite'
Sorry if this is a confusing post, but it has confused the crap out of me. I love the desire but if it is going to move my contacts about it will annoy the living daylights out of me
Anyone has any clues regarding this?
I installed the HTC synch manager, thinking that it would resynch the missing contacts back to my outlook. But to my horror, it has duplicated all the outlook contacts back to the phone. So now I have 2 of each contact. And the required contacts are still missing
I can't delete them all and resynch because I have missing contacts in my outlook and not even sure if it will delete the contacts from the exchange server
Why can't they make it just work, this used to work great with windows mobile, never faced any issues. Anyone know how I can get the source for the contact? and possibly how I can get it back to the exchange server?
Help, please

Outlook Sync - Contacts "Files As"

Hey guys,
My MD now has a Desire and I notice something strange happening when he syncs his outlook contacts.
Now I know from both sides (outlook, Android) , it doesn't really matter what you file someone's name as because when you search, it still appears either way. However, he is very particular so here is my problem.
When he syncs his outlook contacts to the device, on outlook they now appear as first name, last name. Even though they are set to File As Lastname, Firstname. Now if I open a contact in Outlook, flip the File As back from and to what it was, it then appears in outlook correctly (well how he wants it to).
However, next sync it will re appear as first, last... although file as is still last, first (Outlook)
Anyone have any ideas or noticed something similar?
I appreciate this is a minor issue but I would like to resolve it for him if possible.
Thanks for reading and any help appreciated.
Tell your MD to stop being so picky!!! LOL!!!
Seriously, though, I don't know - I stopped using Outlook sync and sync to my Gmail account now

i had this issue as well, it took days to sort out and once I had them all as I needed it I just installed gsyncit and uninstalled HTC Sync. Outlook and phone perfectly in sync wirelessly for £9 !
i'm thinking about getting a desire, currently have htc touch 3g wm and have it sync'd to my company exchange server . whats the best way to recreate the same push email & sync functionality on the desire? Would Gsyncit do the job? thanks in advance

no need, it will sync to exchange without anything other than your exchange details. No other software needed

This is what I used:
xxx.slipstick.com/contacts/fileas.asp (change xxx to www)
and it worked perfectly.
I found after I got fed up of change 500 contacts individually (twice)
Thanks for that Redskinblack, looks like it'll be a great work around for us. Anyone have any info as to weather or not HTC are ever likely to fix this though?
outlook sync with htc sync then tried to sync back after wiping the contacts on my phone sent all my contacts screwy, added them to wrong groups, linked them to wrong facebook contacts...
I've found exporting to sd and importing again much easier and works much nicer - lose my groups but that's not as annoying as re-linking them all...
obviously doesnt help the outlook issue though
If it helps, I've been trying to find a reliable method to sync Outlook 2010 contacts with the Desire. I had similar issues with HTC Sync reversing first and last names as well as problems syncing.
Having looked at Gsyncit but not wanting to pay for it, I found MyPhoneExplorer which was originally developed for SE phones but has been updated to include Android. It works well and syncs over wifi. You install the program on your PC and the app from the Market. In the program, you then select Outlook as the source of your contacts.
In order to avoid duplicated contacts, I deleted all phone contacts prior to syncing and it copied all the Outlook contacts to my Desire. The only issue was that the Facebook contact link to the phone contacts was broken. This was resolved by removing the account from HTC Facebook for Sense, logging in again and linking a contact.
Hope this helps someone.

This is a great explanation. Very useful. Thanks.
i had the same problem with windows mobile phones trying to sync to my computer. here is the solution : when to write a new contact in outlook say his name is ( Dave Smith ) open up contact field in outlook express and now point to new contact .where it says FULL Name ,click on this icon usually you would put the first name ,in this instance (Dave) in the box where it says First and (Smith) in the box where it says Last .Don't do that .where is says First just put the whole name in there i.e Dave Smith . save all info ,when you have synced your phone ,it will say Dave Smith in your phone.
hope this helps and you understand.
The free sync tool MyPhoneExplorer works fine for me and you can set the first, last option as well.

[Q] Facebook contacts added to phone

Hi,
I've got an issue, not a massive one but it bugs me nonetheless.
Currently, when I tap the Phone button from the home screen it brings up a list which shows my recent call list, if I scroll down I get a long list of all my contacts. The thing I find annoying is that the long list includes all of my Facebook "friends" that have a telephone number listed.
What I would like is for this list to only contain my contacts (copied over from my SIM), and for the ones that are linked to a Facebook account, to have their status etc updated. I do not want my random Facebook "friends" to be in the list.
The most recent thing I've done to try and solve this issue is to go into the Facebook app on the phone and change the 'Sync Contacts' settings (Menu-> Settings) to 'Don't sync'. I then went into (phone) Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications-> All (tab)-> Contacts storage-> Clear Data. I then copied my contacts back over from the SIM. (I've also tried the 'Sync with existing contacts' option as well)
All was well for a while, my contacts linked up again and I got facebook details for my contacts when calling them. However I noticed to my annoyance that my Phone list now contains my facebook contacts again!
I notice under Settings->Accounts and Sync I have two (removable) Facebook accounts, one is Facebook, the other is Facebook for HTC Sense. Does anyone know if it would help to remove either of these accounts?
Can anyone help me find a way to solve this issue (preferably without extra software or going through the People menu)?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Grim.
I just fixed this myself.
I think it's something to do with how HTC Facebook interacts with official Facebook. If I turned of syncing on both (but left contact sync disabled in both) I'd still get contacts in Phone (and also in suggestions in sms app). If I removed both, then added Facebook official only I'd still get them.
In the end, opening up Facebook on my PC and going into privacy then apps and disabling Facebook for HTC Sense seemed to solve it to me. I could then use the official Facebook app without getting all these contacts I'd never use.
I didn't care about getting contact pictures and stuff so I never tried letting official Facebook sync with existing contacts only, but it might work properly.
Hope this helps, completely unscientific but it seemed to for me!

Hi JBrizz thanks for your reply.
I didn't think of logging into the facebook website to disable anything. I'll give that a try.
In the meantime I've fiddled about with the accounts in 'Accounts and Sync'. I've tried deleting both the Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense accounts.
After deleting both I went into the Facebook app and signed in, which recreates the account in Accounts and Sync. I set the sync options in the app to not sync any contacts. I waited around for a while and no extra contacts (from Facebook) appeared in my Phone list.
I then went into the Facebook app and changed the sync settings to 'sync with existing contacts' - which I assumed should only sync the data for the people currently in my phone book? Anyway after a few minutes I checked an all of my Facebook friends were now in my Phone list AGAIN
I started from fresh again and tried a similar thing with the other Facebook for HTC Sense account - I had to recreate this in the Accounts and Sync settings screen.
Again after a few minutes all my Facebook friends where there on my Phone list
Maybe this functionality isn't available with this phone / app?
Anyone else have any ideas?
It is a google problem, not a HTC problem.
The HTC app is doing what it should be doing. If you go to the people app, click on your contact (far left) and then menu -> view you can see the facebook option is unchecked.
However the Phone dialer (google product) just syncs everything.
There is a issue no for this, 10618 @

Best thing to do is you guys reply and make this defect more and more noticeable.
I've posted on the google issue site, cheers for the link!
