Ok so I'm having an issue with my home PPTP VPN.
Whenever I try to connect with the stock android VPN client, sometimes (rarely) it will connect just fine. However, most of the time I get "Server hung up. The username and password you entered could be incorrect." I know the username and password is correct.
I read somewhere that this is due to something with T-Mobile's IP assignment tables or something, is that true?
Will this tun.ko for VPN thing I'm seeing in the Android Development forum fix this issue?

I have a t-mobile Dash. I'm trying to connect to my home router/AP using WPA2-PSK. I've double-checked my network key and other settings, but I can't seem to get it to connect. Here are my settings:
Network name: GTHOME <- matches my router's broadcast SSID
Network type: Internet
Not a hidden network
Not an ad-hoc connection
Authentication: WPA2-PSK
Data encryption: AES
The key is not automatically provided
Network key: (matches my router's key)
Key index: 1
Does not user IEEE 802.1x network access control. (I've tried it both ways, with PEAP
On trying to connect, my Dash give this message:
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
The AP is a Netgear WPN824 v2 with the latest firmware. Any suggestions?
TIA
Try using a 9 letter word for your key.
I had an 8 letter key before. I tried 9 - no luck. What's magic about 9?

Guy, do you have a Mac Adddress Filter area on your router?Open your router so no key is required to make a connection and after you establish a connection use the WEP or WPA2-PSK key option! Can you find your Mac address and your Phone's Ip address on your router. You can find this info on your phone also in Comm Manager> setting> Wifi> Connection Status area. There is a place on your router to put this info, so that the router will know that its ok to connect to this device with this info, I believe its in the advance area on your router and use the 10 key WEP if possible!
Install NetWorkMagic To You System
Go to http://www.networkmagic.com and install the trail version on your PC. Networkmagic will tell you if your system is setup correctly or if their is some kind of problem. Use the network map, this will give you a good ideal of whats going down on your system......! If you cannot see your phone on the network map, then Houston, we got a problem...........!But we will fix it! Happy Thanksgiving!

Yep 8 is secure enough. try again without any caps or numbers. e.g. give aaaaaaaa a try
And see that error you mention, that looks like the one IE gives. What happens when you press connect in the wifi list?
I found that having any character other than a-z, 0-9 would cause the dash to fail to connect even though pc's and laptops had no problems. My initial key contained a "-" and "$"-- it drove me crazy trying to figure out the problem until I realized only the dash couldn't connect.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday
I double-checked the MAC address filter - it's turned off.
I was able to connect with Open Authentication and WEP Data encryption, and if I disable security altogether. Neither of these options is satisfactory.
I also tried 'aaaaaaaa' as the key. It doesn't work in either WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK with TKIP or AES encryption.
The warning I get when I press the connect key in the wi-fi list is -
"Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
Make sure the Key Index on the phone matches the Key Rotation on the router.

I don't think I'm using Key Rotation. Isn't that just for WEP? And, only if you have a RADIUS server? I just have a simple home network, nothing fancy.
I have a basic USRobotics router and it supports key rotation for WPA2. I had it set to 0 (meaning off), however there was no equivalent setting on my S621. The S621 could only be set at 1,2,3,or 4. When I set both the S621 and the router to the same number (in my case 4) I was able to connect.
My netgear doesn't have a place to set key rotation. I tried each key order (1 - 4) on the phone - no luck.
I even tried installing the evaluation version of CommView for WiFi (http://www.tamos.com/products/commwifi/) so I could see what each device is doing. But, I don't have a compatible adapter.
Your Router's IP Address Is 192.168.1.1 Not 192.168.0.1

For your router with IP address 192.168.1.1 with the WPA encryption, turn on the MAC address Filter and install the phone's MAC address in the router in the appropriate area, save settings (soft reset)! Now your phone will now be able to connect to your network via wifi.........!
Well, it's working now in WPA-PSK(TKIP) mode. Here are the changes I made:
I installed a new battery (my Dash started dying every time I turned on wireless while on the battery).
I removed a network called "Free Public Wireless." The Dash would try to connect to this network when it failed to authenticate on my encrypted network.
I suspect the "Free Public Wireless" network was interfering with the login to my home network. I'm just happy that it's working.
Hi, all,
I have the same problem:-
"Cannot connect tot the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again."
After some troubleshooting, I found that this problem will go away when I set some IP address in the network adapter.
I have confirmed that my password (network key) is correct and my MAC filter are also correct.
The only changes that I can think of is that I went to US last week and connected using hotels' wireless access. No IP settings were done during the connection.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea on how to solve this problem.
Many thanks in advance.
Joe
Since few days my dataconnection gets lost, when I try to use it. For example when I start Messenger and try to login, TP2 connects then it says Dataconnection is not available check your connection settings. After several attempts it connects stays stable for one or two minutes then again connection breaks down. I also tryed to reset the data connection via connection-wizard, nothing helps. I think something in the registry is messed up...
I don't want to do a hardreset and install all the programs again. Does someone have a good advice for me?
My Rhodium is the same situation. I am a Japanese, and mopera of Docomo is used.
[Understand now]
Cellular Line IP address & Default Gateway is same.
Primary DNS & Secondary DNS is active. I receive PING.
I can't receive PING form other site (mail server etc).
I did hardreset. But my Rhodium is not connect to Internet.
It investigates for a while. If you have good idea, then advice to me.
Same here with MTS Serbia.
I check data connection settings and all adjustment are same like automatic configuration setup but i cant get back data connections.
Hello every one.
I have understood the cause of this problem.
Perhaps, every one set WiFi's DNS server at manual.
If it's possible, set DHCP. Then DNS server is active and you can get e-mail and you can access to Internet.
I think this problem is WM network access process.
I will not use DHCP. I research other process for GPRS.
Thanks msaf, your advice resolve my problem!
I set WiFi's DNS server at manual and when i set on default i got gprs connection again
Hi,
This is an unusual problem as the wireless network card shouldn't have anything to do with GPRS!! Anyway, it seems having automatic DNS for wifi does solve the problem of GPRS but my Wifi connection will not work unless I specify the DNS manually. Therefore, it is a hassle to change between these 2 options whenever I need to change between WIFI and GPRS.
Any way to fix this once and for all??
I looked around the forum and searched on Google but was still skeptical how to connect my Evo to my home internet connection. I turn on my Evo WiFi, it shows my connection so I push connect. Then I see I am unable to to browse from my phone. I have a speedstream 5200 that is connected to my airlink wireless router. I would like to use my home internet so I can browse on my phone. I have a username and password that I have to put in, in order to log on such as my laptop.
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.
Also does this have to do anything with vpn?
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
If your router has a password, the phone should prompt you to enter that. If not, your router could be using a weird security profile, maybe just try switching to WEP. Also, try unplugging the router's power for a minute, then plug it in. That usually fixes any problems with the router itself.
Ill try that and see. If anyone else has this type of issue and somewhat knows how to resolve this pls post. But thank you sitlet Ill give that a shot and respond back asap.
WEP/WPA/WPA2 will all prompt for a password when you try to connect.
A few things to check:
1) The SSID must be set to broadcast
2) make sure there isn't a MAC address filter turned on on the router.
3) if you have entered a password to connect, re-enter it to make sure it is correct.
HTC Evo
Rooted, but still stock...for now
----------------------------------------
The program is designed to work, if it's not, we have a problem.
Ok I did everything mentioned above and I can get into my router settings but I still can't figure out why my Evo won't use my att service. I see the "connect to, my router " but still can't actually connect to use the internet. Am I suppose to use a VPN? please help again my friends, thanks.

OP, it sounds like your modem is passing on the PPPoE authentication to the connected client (your computer). What you need to do is have the modem do the PPPoE handshaking and pass a pure public IP back to your router, which then via NAT shares the internet connection across connected devices.
Reference page 21 (not pdf page, but actual page # printed at the bottom of the pages in the pdf) of your modem's owner's manual to provide your login credentials to the modem.
http://www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf
On page 38, refer to configuring the modem for client mode.
You should configure your router for DHCP wan mode. You may need to adjust your MTU setting if there is one. I don't recall the exact procedure for dsl setups, but google "optimal mtu dsl" for information.
Finally, your computer should be set up for dhcp as well. When everything is working properly, you should not need to run any additional software on your computer to gain internet access. When this becomes so, your evo should be able to connect successfully to your wifi. Once you're able to do this, you can start implementing wireless security (wep/wpa/wpa2).
Edit: You're not clear what you're typing in when you reference logging in in one of the posts above. Are you supplying windows credentials, or your isp credentials ([email protected] or [email protected] or similar and password)?
I'm trying to get my Z2 connected by IPSec to my LAN. Part of that is I want to have it always get a known IP address.
Well the mechanism that most DHCP servers use is setting the MAC to assign a known IP. But checking the logs I find that the Z2 changes MAC every time I establish a new VPN connexion! WTH?
I mean, normally I would see this as a benefit, but I need to be able to pin down what is what so I can give it its rightful IP address, so I can find it later.
When I check interfaces with ipconfig, there are about a dozen of them, and the one getting the VPN IP is tun0.
Nogat 7.1.1, rooted. Anyone know what's going on here?
No one's getting random MACs...
Hello everyone,
as noted in the title of this thread, I cannot connect to L2TP/IPSec VPN Server from my phone (Redmi Note 8 Pro, running MIUI 11.0.3 stock).
I've done extensive troubleshooting and appears that phone never even contacts the server. When i configure everything and toggle the VPN, it will try to connect but never does, and then times out.
I'm watching the logs on the server, nothing appears.
I'm watching tcpdump on the server, no packet is even received from phone.
I've connected to WiFi network from i which i know i can connect to VPN (for example from PC or my MikroTik router) and it cannot even connect from that network.
I've enabled packet sniffer on root MikroTik router to sniff the packets, filtering MAC address of my phone, and guess what... When i click on VPN, it doesn't even try to connect to VPN serever. VPN server IP address doesn't even appear on sniff.
I'm wondering why is this happening, is anyone else having issues with L2TP/IPSec VPN? How do i inform Xiaomi of this issue since I've placed couple of feedbacks back in the day, never received an answer and those issues still persists so i don't even thing they are reading the feedback that is sent to them from phone app.
Hoping to get to the bottom of this!
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Any chance you can try the OpenVPN app? I used to have an issue with my old phone where sometimes it would say connected but it wouldn't be. With the rn8pro, OpenVPN works every time.
Edit: try posting on the Mi forums for a better chance of a response from someone at Xiaomi

Might not just be Xiaomi....https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/issues/571
I would hate having two VPN servers installed at the same time. There are times when i want to connect my root mikrotik router to VPN server i question to forward all web traffic via VPN, unfortunately, OpenVPN support is very limited on MikroTik , there are new cipher suites missing and with new OpenVPN servers in place it's impossible to connect tik to OpenVPN.
I know however that OpenVPN app works great with android, but it's weird that native L2TP doesn't seem to be working at all.
I could fall back to PPTP maybe. Both Android and MikroTik works flawlessly with PPTP. But... It's PPTP..
Thanks, i will try posting to Xiaomi forums as well.
