I live in Puerto Rico and AT&T has the best coverage were i reside. I can actually see the AT&T tower but my Evo 4g is still picking up a weak sprint signal 1 bar. what can i do to force it to roam on AT&T network. I know about roam control but don't want to be on 1x data.. thanks

Sprint can't roam on at&t. at&t is gsm, sprint is cdma. 2 different networks.
Don't think its possible. ATT is a gsm network. Our phones run on cdma.

No. You're doing the equivalent of trying to play a VHS in a DVD player. It ain't gunna happen.
so in Puerto Rico AT&T is using CDMA so can some one help me out
(AT&T buys Centennial phone Company)
AT&T will continue to operate Centennial's CDMA networks in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, rather than immediately move all customers to GSM/UMTS. In July 18, 2010 AT&T absorbed Centennial in the Caribbean
Centennial also operates CDMA networks in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Still won't work. Sprint would have to have a contract with AT&T/Centennial to allow roaming... And if you're not already roaming, then it's not going to happen.[/thread]
[Q] AT&T using CDMA in Puerto Rico , force roam
I live in Puerto Rico my phone gets a weak signal from sprint 1 bar but there is a AT&T tower that i can right by my house (2 blocks away) when my phone roams it gets a full bars with 3g service but that does not happen much cause it also gets a weak signal from sprint how can i force roam to AT&T with the prl not the "Roam Control" cause of 1x data issue thanks

i roam every now and then with full bars and 3g at high speeds
You could try the roam control app, force roam your phone to get a better signal, but your data speed will suck. Its a paid app.
Just taking a guess, you could be roaming to Claro, the old verizon here in Puerto Rico. Oh and another question i am getting some bad speeds on 3G in Mayaguez...about 200-500 kbs in dwnload and 100-500 upload
Look, I said it before, and I'll say it again:
Unless Sprint has a roaming contract with the local carrier (AT&T/Centennial) you will not be able to roam on them. At all. Ever.
And if you do roam on someone other than Verizon, odds are you're going to hit roaming fees.
Rather than asking us, why don't you call Sprint, and ask them what their roaming policies are in your area, and on who's towers you can/will roam without getting fees?

I think you are right, we used to have Verizon here and Claro bought all the towers and stuff they had. I think he is roaming with Claro that is exactly the same infrastructure Verizon had here from what i belive. My best guess is he is roaming on Claro
well...i live in Carolina, PR and i just got Evo on Sprint yesterday because Tmo has no service in my home... here the evo is roaming data and voice from at&t/centennial because i dial 611 and it was at&t/centennial customer service line... i have '3g' but only at 100kbps or less!

Hi,
Since I got my Galaxy S III from Bell last week, I was never able to connect to their LTE network, only HSPA+ (HSPAP:15). I have good reception and was able to do a speedtest of 8Mbps in Quebec City.
According to Bell, I should be able to connect to LTE in Quebec City... I even got a new SIM yesterday, still no LTE love for me.
Should I exchange the phone ?
Thanks !
I just talked with a Bell tech.
My data plan is not compatible with their LTE network !
I have a corporate unlimited data plan with tethering...
Well, at least, I don't have to swap my phone.
Anthony: The LTE is supported in the S3, though it should show HSPA+ on the phone. Do you see that?
you: yes
you: Why isn't it LTE?
you: It's faster speeds and overall better.
Anthony: HSPA+ and LTE are the same things it's 2 different ways to call the same network.
Anthony: If you'd see just HSPA then you would not be on the right network though.
That is from bell chat
TL;DR - LTE means HSPA+ (H+) ther other network is just HSPA (H).
Hi everyone,
I recently obtained an AT&T sim card and installed it into my unlocked and rooted tmo g2. I was under the assumption that I would be able to at least get 3g on the AT&T network with my phone, but did not realize that the g2 does not support the frequency bands for at&t 3g. I currently only get 2g/edge, data is slow and calls are sketchy.I have all the apn's setup correctly, I know I do. The phone simply does not support the frequency for 3g.
I was wondering if I can force my phone to always roam on the tmobile network somehow so that I can obtain 3g or even by some stroke of luck 4g. I have national roaming so there is no charge.
Is This Possible???
Somebody please help me figure this out or tell me why it will not work.
XDA is a genius pool, somebody out there knows...
Thank you in advance

You can use AT&T's network with a phone that has an unlocked sim slot, but AT&T's 3G band (same band Canada Bell 3G is on) is different from T-Mobile's, as a result you won't be able to use 3G on AT&T's network.
The same is true if you bought an international Desire-Z and tried to use a T-Mobile Sim, no 3G speeds on T-Mobile, but 3G with an international GSM/HSPA carrier.
PS: The G2/DZ does not support 4G, the only time you ever seen 4G in the indicator is when the phone is on HSPA mode (kind of in between 3G and true 4G speeds).
In a nutshell, a T-Mobile G2 will ONLY be able to get 3G and faster on T-Mobile's Network.
----- The above mainly for people coming in wondering the difference ----
In regards to force roaming with T-Mobile's network, as far as I am aware the two have a limited pairing arrangement, with a AT&T Sim, you would get minimum edge speeds with T-Mobile. (ie: why would a competitor give you more than just basic service). ie: you're not a T-Mobile Subscriber, as such you'll only get Edge (if any data at all) when roaming outside of AT&T's coverage.
Can anyone tell me if an AT&T GS3 is compatible on the T-Mobile network? I found a great deal on one. Thanks!
You would get edge unless T-Mobile has deployed 1900mhz bands in your area

Is this what I'm hoping for in Detroit?

Yeah it should work since under t-mobile it has 1900mhz listed, so 3G should work...
I thought the whole remapping to the 1900 mhz spectrum was supposed to increase coverage area? Cause it says i got the 1900 mhz band in my area and if anything service sucks other than edge. I wish i had my sprint Touch Pro 2 to test the 3g on.
T-mobile already uses the 1900mhz band for its Edge radio signal. The phone will work on T-mobile's network but you will only get Edge 2G speeds unless you're one of the (very)few areas that have already been updated to send HSPA+42 out on the 1900 mhz band.
You should call and ask a tmobile rep or better yet call/visit a local store or kiosk and ask if they have upgraded your area for 1900mhz 4G.
A quick search reveals that they have announced that they have 1900mhz 4G in the following cities:
Seattle,
Washington D.C.,
Los Angeles,
New York,
Las Vegas,
Kansas City.
I also went to the T-mobile coverage map and they have new icons for their upgrade rollout. 1 Icon says "New Cell Site" which means that a site has been upgraded and is ready for LTE to be installed but has yet to be installed (probably in 2013 as they announced) and another Icon which isn't listed on the icon legend which is a small magenta/pink circle, when zoomed in far, over one of the above listed cities showing that it is live with 1900mhz 4g and will support AT&T and international phones(iPhone) on the network.

No, they already use 1900mhz for EDGE as stated. You'll only get HSPA in small parts of California, Colorado and a few others. As well as parts of the East Coast.

T-Mobile states:
"T-Mobile recently announced that it has been testing unlocked iPhone speeds on T-Mobile’s 4G network. This opens the floor to many questions regarding the fact that many speculated T-Mobile would wait to debut the iPhone on its network until its 4G LTE network rolled out.
T-Mobile says it is in the planning stages of expanding its 4G network to Los Angeles and San Diego, which is where it said customers are experiencing “iPhone ‘speed sightings’ on T-Mobile’s 4G network.” This is potentially exciting news for Apple fans on T-Mobile; many speculated that the iPhone wouldn’t premier on T-Mobile until mid-2013, when the carrier plans to roll out 4G LTE."
I am not sure if I understand this:
1. What is this "iphone 'speed sightings' on T-Mobile's 4G network"? what do they mean by "speed sightings"? Are these occasional 3G/4G speeds when still mostly EDGE, is that why it is a "sighting"?
2. How is this re-farming supposed to work? Are unlocked AT&T phones (phones with no 1700MHz antennas) only able to get 3G/4G only if t-mobile 1700MHz 4G is re-farmed to the 1900MHz band?
3. Does this mean that once T-Mobile deploys 4G LTE in mid-2013, AT&T unlocked phones will also work on t-mobile 4G LTE? Are T-Mobile 4G LTE going to be on 1900MHz or 1700MHz band?
4. Is the re-farming of 1700MHz 3G/4G to 1900MHz band is a separate and unrelated thing from the t-mobile 4G LTE? Is the re-farming just a temporary solution until 4G LTE comes to t-mobile?
I am not sure how to understand this news from T-Mobile.
I currently have an unlocked (unlock code from AT&T) AT&T Note II (SGH-I317) with a t-mobile 4G plan. I have 12 days to decide to cancel my t-mobile 4G plan and go back to AT&T, or stick with t-mobile and pay the $325 cancelation fee to AT&T. But I can't decide if it makes sense to stay with t-mobile or i should go back to AT&T. For now, extremely high data speed is not that important to me. I just cannot stand EDGE. If I can get 3G (6mbps down/ 2mbps up) I will stay w t-mobile. For the future, I want to know if I will ever be able to get 4G LTE on t-mobile with my AT&T Note II, even when it does not have the 1700MHz antenna. Or will I be required to get a 1700MHz t-mobile Note II to eventually get 4G LTE, in which case I should sell my unlocked AT&T Note II and buy a t-mobile Note II or switch to the Nexus 4 phone.
Any help understanding t-mobile's announcement is greatly appreciated.
After having the switch to T-Mobile due to the eSim restrictions I've given up on getting Verizon or AT&T on the esim so I asked T-Mobile why I couldn't roam off AT&T well she proceeded to tell me that they didn't have jurisdiction or whatever to connect to the towers in Vermont where I am but she told me how to make it so I can manually select what towers I'm connected to so I've been roaming on T-Mobile with AT&T for the last hour I have 4G LTE and I have all the service I've been looking for...
I don't know how much Roman data I have but I at least know I can now connect to AT&T and have service I can also now do roaming with Verizon just nice to know that I can actually select the carrier and have working roaming
