Bro the VISIONary app is not working on most G2 I have no idea why but Ive tried doing it over a million times and no luck. I guess the app doesn't work anymore and by the looks of it the guy who created it gave up on it.

Naw, it works just fine, took me ten min to perma-root my g2 and it works great especially since I overclocked it to 1.4ghz lol

White Evo won't root

After doing hours upon hours of research yesterday, I have come to the conclusion that if you have a White Evo, it cannot be rooted yet. I have a black one - hardware version 003 and it rooted just fine using Unrevoked.
My wife, however, decided to get the white Evo - which is also hardware version 003. I ran the same steps for her except Unrevoked came up with the "[Internal Error: Can't find Misc]"
The reason I come up with blaming it on white Evo's is because I saw threads by other people around the internet who couldn't root their white Evo's either.
Is anybody working on this? Although I am a tech geek, I am nowhere nearly as geeky as you all that make the hacks, roms, and cracks.
Unrevoked is not the only method of rooting.
I have a white evo and its rooted on hardware 0003......I used unrevoked with no problem....

I didn't find any other ways up to date yet... plus, last I heard, new Evo's can't be rooted yet.

Hmmm wonder what the differences are.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
hmmm, wonder where this should be posted
is it h-boot 2.02?
Hmm this is a question but also a development question. Hmm maybe I should double post this in the Q and A forum as well!

Driver
Is you driver working correctly?
I just got an EVO today (white one) with HBoot 2.02 and had to read the "Like a Boss" Guide to root it but had 0 trouble. Running Myn's Warm 2.2 and everything works perfectly.
Yes the drivers work. I used the same configuration to root my black Evo.

I will find that and do some reading. Thanks for the heads up!

There really should not be a difference other than color as you stated your wife's "white evo" is using the same hardware as your black evo "0003" so you should be able to root it the sameway. Now the second time I had to root my black Evo #0003 it took doing the operation 3 times before the root was successful.

If you have a Tmobile G2 use this guide (read and follow it carefully). http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Introduction
If you have a Desire Z with 1.72 ROM, you cant use the guide in that link.

Dude...super easy....well maybe not, but if you are coming from a nexus one, I reckon you may now a thing or two on how android systems work...you shouldn't have any issues.....the guides are pretty good. Go for full root so that you gain control over radio and such.
Good luck, its fun rooting these things!

+1. 'Tis the best way to do it.
Does visionary work because I want one click and a way to unroot cause I have a contract with a protection thing and I don't want to void it but I want access to the system for boot animations and to use vault to hide twitter and other apps I don't want.

Why has the G2 slowed down after the OTA update?

I did a thread on this before but on the wrong section here are one of the response I got:
Do a full wipe and start fresh....totally from scratch. My phone did that too one time it just ran like ass for some reason. I did a full wipe etc and it seemed to fix it.
Nonsense!

Did that, and got a new G2 replacement with the OTA Update preinstall and I still get the same low scores that I would normally score 300+ higher before the update, I get 1700 @ 1ghz o/c while I would get around 1600-1700 before the update @ 800mhz stock and around 1900s @ 1ghz o/c :s, could it be the tethering and wifi calling capabilities added on the OTA update that slowed the phone down?

There is differing opinions on this, but the popular consensus is that quadrant scores are worthless. They do not reflect real world use at all. There really just good for circle jerking with your friends and saying "Oh my phone is better, no MINE!" . I have actually used roms that got a THOUSAND less in quadrant, yet felt faster and worked better in real world use. So my advice would be dont rely on quadrant so heavily to decide what is the best rom I made that mistake myself.

Well I'm on stock, not using any roms
And than again I don't rely much on quadrant but, the phone is definately slower, it use to be faster before the update. I strongly believe is the update that slowed the phone down, many people have also notice this.

Did it and the phone did scores higher than it did before I wipe the cache out, thnx, but I still got higher numbers before the update. I really do believe the update slowed down the phone because of the addition of wifi calling and tethering, if not than what did.

Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

It came with it preinstalled I read that much and when I saw that got a little frustrated
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

[Q] Is there a way to root OTA GB?

So since I messed up my first Droid by rooting and then OTA updating I was cautious about rooting my shiny new Droid Incredible 2. I updated to 2.3 OTA because I was excited about some of the features I saw in the Nexus S but unfortunately not all those features made it to my phone. Soon after I read that I saw a post of an OC Incredible 2 with a Quadrant score of over 3000. I am asking anyone out there, is there a way to root OTA 2.3 and if there isn't can some one as soon as they hear how to post here. Thanks.
Look into XTC Clip. I don't know if it can or not, but it's probably ur 1st choice right now.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
XTC clip is currently the only method, unfortunately. And in reality, that is only getting you S-OFF. However, from there, you can move on to rooting.
No GB root at the moment.

well if your wife's phone is still on froyo, you should be able to use alpharevX to s-off then root it.
EDIT: just realized the title of this thread. too many threads open, got confused.
