is the only working one for gsm desire
No it won't. for GSM unrevoked will root but not S-off. to S-off use AlphaRev. There are also some tutorials on this.
Make sure you actually know what your about to do and what the risks are.
thanks guys.
i know what the risks are (potentially fubarring my phone)
will do the vbox meth tomoz
ta all

Just burn the cd and do it the normal way. Much easier and lots less to go wrong. It's as easy as putting the cd in and rebooting your pc in most cases.
tried the vbox way and it was fiddly. hooked up a dvd writer to my NC10 netbook and booted off the CD.
took about 3 mins i think.
now, i know there's something in the oxygen rom that's only available with s-off, anyone want to make a short (or long) list of things we can now do?
to be honest, i just wanted to get rid of that all white htc splash tbh
Hi, time progressed.... is there any noob/the easiest way at this moment to gain S-OFF???
Any one click program etc....?
Found HTC Supertool v3, but not tried this and not sure that is functional on WFS.

Depending on hboot of your device, 0.93 and 1.02 work with revolutionary, older are compatible with unrevoked and alpharev.

Hi Guys,
I'm about to try rooting my HTC and just want a question answered.
At the start of the 'noob proof how to' post on how to root the HTC Desire it says you cant do it unless the HBOOT number is 93 or lower, well mine is 93.0001.
Can I do it or will I risk 'Bricking' my phone??
Thanks
Fenny101
Ps. What does bricking mean??
When you say that you want root your phone, you want to S-Off it ?

Bricking means phone becomes totally unresponsive.
Don't worry about it though, unless you are ridiculously unlucky, or can't follow instructions at all it won't happen to you!
Hboot 93.0001 is fine, but I recommended using unrevoked for the root, then alpharev for s-off. (full root, security flag disabled).
http://unrevoked.com/
http://alpharev.nl/
Ok cheers Stringer..
so that unrevoke thing is software right? How do I use it?
Sorry if i'm being slow by the way I am completely new to this whole thing

No worried, we are all new sometime!
Yes it's a software utility, download it off the site and run like any program. Really is one click!
For alpharev, its a boot CD, so you download the ISO, copy to CD, then boot from that and it does its stuff...
hey guys, is there a way to root the htc wildfire or buzz, my hboot is 1.01.0002 locked on telstra network in australia. is there a way to root it? i tried unrevoked but it currently doesnt support my boot loader. any help would be appareciated
cheers
The only way to do it is through XTC Clip. They are expensive to buy and I too am in Australia but had to sent mine away to the UK. XTC Clip gives you S-OFF and then you can downgrade and use unrevoked. There are plenty of tutorials on the web to enable you to do that. unrevoked 3.3 doesn't work after XTC Clip so you have to find a copy of unrevoked 3.2. This hangs on the step: rebooting into recovery, but by then the phone is rooted so just select the reboot now option and you are all set
Or just wait for AlphaRevX, which should be coming soon.

neither do you when using the XTC clip
but indeed, alpharevx should be coming out soon, saves you some cash
thaks mate so how long did it take for you to take it to the UK and back? and also has the bootloader been cracked yet? im assumeing that unrevoked would have a newversion somthing along the lines of 3.3 or somthing to use the new HBOOT 1.001 but thanks for the infomation anyway man much appreciated
i think ill just stick to waiting for alpharevx to come out or a new unrevoked thanks for all the help people
Hi, Im planning to modify /etc/hosts,
Is there any way to do this without S-OFF / HTCDev ?
Thanks,
S-off it is not possible in HOX for now.

Yeah...follow any one of the many guides on rooting the One X. We don't have S-OFF. Did you read anything before asking this question?

It's not possible at the moment.
How about TacoRoot ? Anyone try ?
I know this works on my oldie stock/factory desire,
and TacoRoot claims to be "HTC Universal Root Exploit 12-30-2011"
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/unlock-virtually-any-htc-bootloader-without-voiding-warranty/
i found this but haven't tried it just read the post
If they worked on the One X we would know by now. The One X has been around for a few weeks and to date there is no way to get S-OFF.

He's welcome to try any tool he sees but I am not game especially if there's a risk of bricking the phone.
PS:
The utility is for a wildfire S CDMA, makes me more cautious using it.
hi, I just got DHD instead of my old Desire, which I rooted with no problems. I am not novice, and I wouldn't ask you all for help, but i really don't know, how to downgrade it. I found some tutorials, BUT THEY DON'T WORK!!! I dont know why, but when i'm trying flashing PD98IMG.ZIP via bootloader, after checking PD98IMG.ZIP, it says "error, main version is older"... I have GOLDCARD and i have always follow the instructions!!! precisely!!!!!
When i try downgrade via cmd and adb, after checking those things, it says no # but $..and thats wrong!!!
visionary or gingerbreak dont work with this version, i think...
Android 2.3.5 ; HTC sense 3.0 ; software number 3.13.110.4 ; radio 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
please help me.

After some research, I found, that advanced ace hack kit is still ready to use. AAHK method worked fine for me.

Try downloading one of the RUUs from here. Just boot your phone to the bootloader screen and plug it in then run the correct one for your phone. If you can boot into a ROM you can also do that, then plug in your phone, and run the RUU. It will give you all the instructions. BTW codename for HTC Desire HD/Inspire 4G is ACE. So get one of those RUUs:
Edit notice I can't post outside links cause I'm under 10 posts.
Just google "Shipped Roms HTC Ace"

There is no EASY way to achieve s-off as aahk is retired. But, if you are skilled enough, this is an ADVANCED method to achieve s-off - http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=411
Take note however that those method is unsupported, which means that no one is responsible to help you to understand it and help you along the process. Glevitan apparently is working on the automated s-off tools, so you can wait for it to be released. However, there is no exact time of when the tools will be released, and maybe it will never be, only he knows.
You can gain root however, using glevitan's easy root tools, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169515
Make sure to read the thread carefully to understand how it works. :good:

Is Gfree v.2 alright to use to gain sec off ON A DEVICE RUNNING a JB kernel? (3.0.62_JellyTime_42_R5-g8e08b6e-dirty) ... or is easyradiotool v2.2 any better?
I have goldcard and simunlock/SU/root already
I have no idea what those tools are. If you just want to flash a custom ROM just flash a recovery.
lol, sorry, dude - PM'd you with an explanation... going back to square one.
