I have the Lowrider theme right now and was just planning on wiping Cache and Dalvik cache and then just flashing a new theme over it....would this be okay? Also, if I wanted to return to the stock theme on Myns 2.2 RLS 3 then would I just reflash the ROM? Thanks.
Anyone sure if this okay or not?
I dunno, nandroid and try it. The worst that could happen is you'll get a boot loop. I flash the original ROM to remove the theme then flash the new theme over that.
I have flashed a theme over a theme several times without problems, to get rid of a theme just reflash original rom. I have never had to wipe but if you have problems than of course wipe

If i flashed a custom ROM and then Flashed The Aloysious theme over it, is there a way to remove the theme without re-flashing?
NAND restore
what if i didnt do a NAND backup??
W/O wipe just reflash your rom...i think this works heard from another
I'm really enjoying CM6.1.1, however I'd like to update my PRL and the only way to do that is to NANDroid backup CM and flash a Sense based ROM.
I did the backup, downloaded Fresh ROM, did a full wipe and even did a separate Cache wipe and then Dalvik Cache wipe. Then I flashed Fresh. The installation goes fine and I reboot.
I hit the white HTC Evo 4g splash and that's it... it just hangs for more than 5 minutes I've waited. I did a battery pull and booted again and it would just hang. Then I did a full wipe, cache wipe and dalvik wipe and rebooted, still just hanging.
I thought I might have gotten a bad download so I tried MYNs warm 2.2 just in case and the same deal.
Is there something that's done to the phone after CM6.1.1 is installed that prevents a Sense ROM from booting up?
thanks for any help!

No sometimes recovery doesn't wipe everything correctly... downlload caulks format all and then flash sense rom. Should fix your problem!!

!!
I think i figured out what the problem is.
I flashed the latest radios, that is, i flashed the leaked ones (ending in .19 i think)
So I don't any of the roms i was trying to flash were compatible with the new radio.
At least that's what I read in some forum.
After nandroid backing and restoring and wiping things multiple times, i'm too lazy to try flashing an older radio so i might just wait till a new ROM based on 3.70 comes out.

radios have nothing to do with it. they base roms off new ota so that you can get the benefits of the changes not the radios. You can flash the original radio that came with the evo and it would not affect the rom. The radio controls your signal strength and wimax strength. which is why there is a thread with all the different radios because each phone reacts different to each radio.....
[Q] I have a rooted Evo and I was wondering if there were any tips someone can give me on installing custom themes? I found and downloaded a few that I like but every time I try to install them from recovery and it completes, it always gets stuck on the splash screen on reboot.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Are you wiping?
Are you sure you're using the right themes? By that, I mean, a theme meant for a different ROM than the one you're using?
Thanks for the info. I didn't wipe the first time. I got the phone to boot up but now butwhen it starts it says that the HTC launcher keeps failing. It just keeps going into a constant loop trying to restart itself. Do you know what this could be?
What ROM / Theme are you flashing?
Could try starting from scratch. Did you make a backup before all of this?
Could always restore nand and go from there. But what ROM / Theme.
Happened to me before, i just wiped everything, then cache, then dalvik cache. Then isntalling ROM, then once booted. when into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik cache and flashed theme, make sure theme is made for that rom
I was wondering how to untheme your phone if you flashed a theme on it? Is nandroid backup the only way? OR if you want to flash another theme but you already flashed one on your ROM can you flash another one on top of it and it'll replace it?

+1 i would like to know also..
You can flash another theme right over it. Just make sure while in recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache (under advanced). You can even flash your rom right over it too.
This was posted quite a while ago in Themes/Apps. It contains stock SystemUI and Framework. Obviously if the theme you are running altered other things (dialer, phone, settings, etc.) then it'll just be a start.

Yeah I always thought the best way was to simply wipe cache/dalvik, then reflash the ROM.

I think that's the most straight forward method. Although I did notice something strange. I had the Midnight rom with the ICS theme. When I switched to Starburst, some of the ICS themed pieces remained. I wiped data, cache and dalvik, so I don't think that should be possible. On the EVO 4G CWM had problems wiping dalvik. Is there a way to confirm that it's actually been wiped?

I don't think there's a way to confirm it's been wiped -- but I've read in multiple threads that it's smart to wipe 3x each & to wipe system FIRST before cache & dalvik otherwise you'll run into issues.
You can tell if dalvik cache has been wiped by hiw long it takes to boot you after you wipe dalvik. If it wipes properly the phone will take a while to boot the first time.

im on blazer 3.9 and want to go to 4.0. cant i just put it on sd and flash from cwm? i know to wipe and all that. im not that savvy when it comes to this but i do know how to flash in recovery. and will dark fire still work??
Phantom stated that it is a different framework. If you wish to run without problems it seems that you should listen to the programmers recommendations on installing and thrumming no matter what ROM. I have found 4.0 to work great personally. As far as themes it may work and if you make a back up you don't have much to lose. The change in the framework may induce errors though.

Put it on your sd, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash! You don't need to do a factory reset but you should wipe the cache to prevent system app crashes. You will have to flash Dark Fire again but I'm not sure if it would work.

thanx for the quick replies guys.... thats exactly the answer i was looking for. as for the other poster befor you,i do read instuctions... i said i dont understand some of the things and "terms" they use.. just need a lil extra help. thats all i wanted to know. can i flash in recovery... yes i can!!!
just a heads up tho,i am runnin the old dark fire theme on the new/old blazer 3.9 and its working...thanx yall
(should be in Q & A section but i'm not anal about that stuff =P) both posters are correct, however! I do recommend a full wipe when going from 3.9 to 4.0 for the simple fact that 4.0 has a new framework, and although it will flash ok, it may have fc's or may not run correctly. I recommend doing a full back then wiping all (data/cache/delvik) and flashing 4.0, then go back into recovery wipe cache/delvik again and go to (backup/restore) and advance restore data, and you should have everything back again. as for The theme, because it's a different framework, you can bet that there will be issues, they may be minor issues or major but you'll have to experiment with that yourself. Hope this helped. (ps. I'm drunk and didn't see when this was posted so if you already did something then ignore this =D)
