[Q] PSFreedom - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry if this a noobish question, but is there a chance of PSFreedom being ported to the desire HD in the same way it was for the desire?
Moved to General.

Bump! is anyone working on this?

Is it really worth jailbreaking your PS3? You lose multiplayer functionality which is a major drawback.

am interested in knowing about this as well....since its just a different payload, and needs a rooted android, don't see it really hard to get it working on DHD.

i am very intersted in it too, have a read here:

With psfMod, you need to have a special payload that allows PSN and patched gaming. I too got a desire, but i cant find the payload!
If you don't ahve psfMod, then you need to do the following:
1) Enable S-OFF [AlphaRev] Public release S-OFF HTC Desire GSM - xda-developers
2) Download psfmod recovery psfMOD :: Bravo
3) once downloaded, boot into fastboot (with the 3 androids on skateboards), make sure you're in fastboot (first option on the first screen) and plug in a USB.
4) go to the AndroidSDK/Tools folder, and run the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery [location of the .img file]

but you gain free games forever
(please note i do not participate or condone in piracy)

unfortunately the psfmod desire instructions dont work, we need a new image that will work with the dhd, as the current desire image just loads upto the htc logo

I rarely go online with my PS3 anyway and if I wish to I can always just update my PS3 firmware

I talked to klutsh he created already a lot of PSFreedom recoverys.
The only thing he needs is a source / vendor tree from the recovery image.
Paul created a normal recovery so you could also ask him if he release his vendor tree or at least to klutsh:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...2-r2-clockworkmod-recovery-for-htc-desire-hd/

Does anyone have any updates for this ? I would really like to be able to run PSFreedom from my DHD

Is this what we are looking for http://www.klutsh.com/2010/12/06/psfmod-for-htc-desire-hd/ ?
I've read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772795 that we do need a particular (custom) ROM to make all this work and that the original one with Sense makes this infeasible. I don't know anyway if this can be applied to us, because it speaks about the 'normal' Desire and says Htc hasn't yet released a source code of the ROM, while I know Htc released the source of the base kernel of the DHD (well, that's not the Sense stuff, I know).
So, could someone give some hint? I absolutely don't want to wipe out my dhd for this, that would be only a 'let's see what I can do with an hacked ps3', nothing else...

wow, thanks ErMeglio, that's exactly what I was looking for!

I slowly am understanding how all this works...just did the whole stuff (rooted, flashed recovery, run it, flashed the ps3) and it WORKS.
PsFreedom worked but I had errors when opening the two new options. How are them supposed to work?
In the maintime I just wrongly sent my ps3 to a so-called "factory/service mode" (=useless!!) with the dhd and I am working to let it out of it....seems I need a LV2Diag.self file and I'm grabbing one
Edit
Just gone out from factory mode!

Check if your blu ray movie playback still works, there's reports of the service mode disabling it.

I had read it, but thought it was only because of downgrading, which I did not even try to because I have 3.41. I will give it a try in a week or so because I don't have a bd at home, I only rent them sometimes!
Anyway I got how the whole thing work and managed to install an ftp server, a file manager etc...and they are resident too! Cool!!!

I can confirm this is working, downgraded my PS3 yesterday

n00b here, Just rooted my DHD and would like to do this, are there any updates on this? or any tutorials?

[Q] Replace recovery without rooting?

Bit of an unusual request and I think I might already know the answer to this but here goes...
I'm looking for a way to gain adb access to my desire without booting the Android OS. I figured the best way of doing this would be to flash the recovery with a replacement (ClockworkMod for example).
Why am I doing this? I'm a forensic investigator and have a suspect's desire. I'm testing on my own phone and want to find a way of accessing the phone without changing any data inside the MTDs.
I'm thinking that a fastboot command might work but I'd like some confirmation before I start as I do not want to brick my own phone
Is it possible either:
a) gain adb access or replace the recovery without rooting the phone?
b) root the phone, get into recovery with a modified recovery, get the data, and then 'fix' the rooting?
Any help would be gratefully received.
Pretty sure you need root to flash a new recovery
Well as rooting is just the superuser apk and a Su binary placed on the system partition it should be possible. This is usually done after flashing the recovery which is flashed using an exploit. Most programs like unrevoked do both things though so you will have to remove the superuser apk and the binary afterwards.
Alternately there might be a command to dump a partition from fastboot. I don't know.

I suppose if you contact HTC or Google and supply the proper credentials, they would have a way to access that information. Worth a shot, anyway.

In a perfect world yes, but I don't work for the police directly and there's all kinds of trade secret issues with software and phones so HTC are, sadly, disinclined to acquiesce to our request!
I know where their offices are in the UK so I might go knock on their door instead
So unrevoked's payload includes the superuser.apk and su. I guess it should be possible to do something similar but without so those in the payload. Pity they haven't shared their exploit.

[Q] Some questions about rooting/hacking an HTC Desire Z!

As the title says, I have some questions about rooting and hacking an HTC Desire Z and also some application recommendations.
1) I used SuperOneClick to root an old Galaxy 551 Running Android 2.2.
Will the same thing work for an HTC Desire Z running 2.2? What about 2.3?
2) When I rooted my Galaxy 551, the wireless stopped working (started working after an unroot+restore)! Will there be any such risks if I root/hack/mod a Desire Z?
3) Is it possible to dual boot HTC Desire Z with Windows mobile 7 and Android 2.3? If so can someone point me to a howto (which is known to work for HTC Desire Z)! Also are there any risks (I'm not talking about recoverable bricks, but about something like wireless not working!) involved?
4) I saw a guide in the forum on running ubuntu within android!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962023
It didn't work on Galaxy 551 (rooted and NOT custom romed)!
Is there any way to work ubuntu from a rooted Desire Z without installing a custom rom?
5) Last, I need recommendations for the following applications:
a) Media player (mkv,avi,rmvb supported)
b) Torrent
c) Comic book reader
d) Task manager (I really liked the one in Galaxy 551)
e) File Browser
f) Mobile TV (should be free, and should work decently from EDGE)
g) MMORPG/RPG (preferably with keybboard support)
h) Custom ROM (not exactly an app, but stil....)
At the moment I have vplayer & file expert.
And RPGs Zenonia, Dink, Pocket Legends, Star Legends, and Dungeon Defenders (any other good RPGs/MMOs?)
If I posted in the wrong forum, sorry.
I'm still kinda new to rooting, so some of my questions may be stupid (sorry for that too)!

1) best to follow the guide on the xda wiki for the htc vision. it is the guide i used and i rooted with no problem
2) there are risks to rooting but if you follow the exact steps you should be fine. also u should try changing radios on ur samsung galaxy if the wireless stops working
3) it is possible to dual boot but it would be very slow as the desire z dosent have sufficient enough memory
4) i dont know
5)
A) mobo player?
c) marvel comics app
d) autokiller memory optimizer
e) es file explorer or root explorer
g) ur opinion. zeonia is pretty good

Hello, I posted in another topic, but nobody gave me a reply..
So I am trying again...
The problem is that I really want to root my G2 because I want to use htc sense...
But I read that to root my phone, since it is a android 2.3.4, I have to downgrade it.
Is that right or we have a new way?
And if it is really necessary, The only method is that with the cmd? That is really complicated, but if is the only way I will read again the topic and make some questions...
please reply!
Thanks

1) Thanks I'll figure it out from there.
2) Like I asked risks or risks like bricking? (Cause bricking can be avoided if you do things right). And what do you mean 'changing radios'?
3) Slow? Two OSes running NON simultaneously will be slow?
4) Still waiting for it!
5) Thanks a lot. Although for task manager, I kinda want something that does NOT autokill .

2) well there is always a change you will get bricked. i cannot tell if your phone will be bricked or not. also radios are how your phone is connected to cell towers. there are diffrent radios for diffrent parts of the world.
3) it would be slow because even though only one os is running at a time, there is still an amout of ram that is specifically alocated for the other os.
5) the advanced taskmanager can be set not to auto kill.
Watchdog is a great task manager. Lite version does the job for me.

2) So it was not caused by rooting? (It was wierd that rooting could cause Wifi of all things to stop working!) Anyways, I have no idea how to change radios, and like I said, after unrooting and resetting it started working again!
3) Too bad, I really wanted to try it! I guess it will be impossible to set it to allocate ram during boot like a PC or something!
Edit: Also, how do you update to 2.3 anyway? I can't find an update option in HTC Sync or anywhere in the phone!
Another Edit: NVM, got the answer!

1) No super one click. Gonna have to follow the guide in the DZ/G2 wiki, downgrade, root, and flash a custom ROM (or pre-rooted OTA build).
2) There are risks in rooting any device. If you follow the proper guide to root and take your time (don't be stupid!) there are no known issues or regular problems that people have faced with rooting this device.
3) No.
4) That's a serious hack to get it running. Some people are getting it to kinda work.
5) Recommendations
a) I use Google Music for music. RockPlayer works pretty well for other media (admittedly I don't watch that much video on my phone).
b) There are a few out there, but why would you want to torrent on your phone?
c) don't read comics. sorry.
d) DONT use a task killer. If you must use an app to watch tasks, use something like WatchDog to monitor for tasks running wild, but never kills anything unless you say so, and doesn't suck memory.
e) I use the built-in file browser in CM7. I also use File Expert as a good root explorer.
f) Mobile TV? on EDGE? Good luck.
g) Dungeon Defenders is a cool MMORPG apparently. I've dabbled in it a little its pretty fun
h) I LOVE my CM7 nightlies. Very stable and solid.

You will have to downgrade to 2.2, root, and flash a custom ROM (there are many custom HTC Sense ROMs in the dev section).
The guides are pretty comprehensive. Do your research before starting, and ask questions about specific parts you have troubles with.

About following wiki, just like hacking a PSP or like rooting my previous android, what I always do or try to
About being scared of command prompt, the whole point of me trying to root it is to get a proper command prompt with all linux functions (instead of an emulator which just has cd ls and some basic commands)!
Edit: I need to root the phone/not necessarily mod it!
Also, which is the best mobile tv of the lot? (If it won't work with EDGE, I can still use with Wifi)

id still recommend rooting with the wiki, id also recommend cm7 still as well, but if you just want to be rooted on stock, follow the wiki then flash the stock pre rooted rom in the dev section. id also put eng hboot as well because with it and cwm recovery you can pretty much rest assured your device will always be recoverable.
cant comment on mobile tv as i never use it. i heard crackle is a halfway decent free mobile movie app tho..

Rooting

Hey guys a bit ago i wrote a batch script to help people root their nexus s and their nexus s 4g's. why? because i could.. so anyways long story short, ive glanced over the galaxy nexus rooting procedure, seems fairly familiar . ive got a version 5.0 of my one click for teh nexus s 4g which now has menu options for the gsm version of the galaxy nexus. just need someone to confirm taht it all works buttery smooth before i go make a post about it over in development
P.S. Verizon customers your phone is already included, just commented out due to you not having your own CWM image yet. once you guys have that (official or not) ill make 6.0 with you guys
http://goo.gl/2DBZk
This working on Mac?
Nevermind... all .bat and .exe files
sorry when i have some time one of these days i plan on making a bash script version but for now i make too many changes all too often for me to try and maintain 2 separate scripts
Would like someone to confirm if this works properly
Getting my phone this Tuesday and I hope to use this
There's been a batch script out for rooting the GN since a week or so before the phone was released, from a developer who has a test phone: it includes versions for windows, mac and linux.
Superboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352413
yea im aware of it, however that flashes a pre-rooted kernel. id much rather flash cwm so that users can then flash any themes/roms/tweaks. the superboot method indeed does root the gsm model just fine. but all it does is send a fastboot command. you have to unlock the phone yourself and have the drivers from somewhere else get the phone into fastboot mode so the script can send
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
my script on the other hand talks you thru enabling usb debugging, includes drivers gets you into fastboot to unlock (if you need it) flashes cwm and then guides you thru flashing root.zip but still doing most of teh heavy lifting for you (rebooting bootloader, unlocking, pushing the zip etc etc)
i was however unaware of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356917
which is done by borky. hes a cool guy, when i had made the orginal one click for teh nexus s 4g he asked permission to make it nexus s compatible. was un aware that he had made a GN version tho that was a my bad... as such if anyone wants to use this then its of their free will (obviously) but ill step aside and give any assistance to borky should he need it and everyone should refer to this thread here for further inquiries regarding one clicks that flash cwm
Has anyone tested it yet?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
ive had over 40 downloads of 5.0 and no one has come forward and said anything... i dlike to check it off as a confirmed working by some users so qbking77 can make a nice sexy video on how to use it/root etc etc.
Has anyone tested this?

[Q] When will we see ONE X “official firmware” that we can flash

Hi just wondering if anybody knows when we will see official firmware that we can play around with, and what is the process of flashing HTC phones, this being my first HTC, do they have simple programs like odin that I use with my gs2?
Your phone is already running "official firmware". As for flashing HTC phones, it's all done through the recovery menu. Things may be different for the One X as it's running Tegra 3 but as for now HTC phones do not have anything equivalent to ODIN.
Ok I see that method is fine, what I meant with “official firmware realises” is when will they be released so we can try different country’s/carriers firmware, for example on gs2’s you can get everything from the first realises of gingerbread to the latest ICS realises from all different country’s/carriers.
Not at present, no. We need S-OFF for that (the equivalent of fully unlocking the bootloader on a Samsung device)
At the moment we can go custom or use the ROM your phone came with

[XYBOARD][RECOVERY] Funding for Dev to create Recovery/Rom

I would like to know how many forum members would be willing to donate funds to any developer willing to seriously work at creating a recovery program and maybe one rom for the Xyboard 10.1 4G/LTE device.
I realize the bootloader is still locked, but devs have managed to bypass the bootloader on other devices using some very creative thinking. The bootloader on my Droid Razr is still locked, but we have Safestrap, CWM
There is also a member i saw that would be willing to donate a xyboard for testing.
I would be willing to donate $100 towards this project.
We need to show the manufacturers that our platform is truely OPEN SOURCE?
so, here we meet again, chumboy

welcome! hey again.
fair amount of views, not many investors.
surprised, it's verizon's main tablet that has 4g (besides the galaxy tab 10.1 which i heard is discontinued).
patience.
I would get in on this. I have actually been trying to figure out Hash's safestrap to see how it is replicated for different devices.

I know it can be done...it's just a matter of interest. Is some dev interested in spending time to figure it out.
we have recovery for many, many devices whose bootloaders are locked.
SafeStrap would be great....or TWRP.
So far, we have $150 available for anyone who creates a recovery. Come 'n git it, devs!
why not create a simmilar thread at xoomforums.com... guess the most of interested useres aren't reading much @ XDA since atm there is no development going on for this device.
if you do so, just be sure to link to each other thread, list the users & amount and sync those two threads in their first post like:

Hello guys,
i want to help you to get a custom recovery for your XOOM2,
because i´ve long waited for a cwm that could be used on my phone - Motoluxe XT615.
And i got sick of all those devs out there who don´t want to help us to make it even easier.
So my mates and me tired a lot together. Finally a chinese developer team got it.
So i hope i can charge my knowledge with you.
My first few questions are:
- Any tries of implementing 2nd init?
- Which type of internal storage (MTD, EMMC)?
- Locked bootloader (realy think so )?
- Can you upload the init.* script in the root of your phone?
I hope you have rootaccess

- Which type of internal storage (MTD, EMMC)?
- Locked bootloader (realy think so )?
- Can you upload the init.* script in the root of your phone?
-and yes we have root
I hope you have rootaccess

for 2nd init i really lack the knowledge of how to do this, but atm trying to get to know more about it. is this even working on ics?
internal storage should be mtd if i'm not totally wrong...
the bootloader is locked, we are sure about that and about the init... will upload it for you later... first got to recharge^^
what kind of approach is it that you have in mind? i may lack the knowledge about bootstrapping etc, but i'm eger to learn

The 2nd init should not be a problem. Internal storage is /mnt/sdcard/ external drive can be loaded on /mnt/usbdisk_1.0/
The bootloader is locked, Motorola has not released this yet. However, I did decode a file that had the agreement for unlocking the bootloader so this leads me to believe it will happen in the future.
My knowledge of bootstrapping is limited as well but I do know that if Motorola's system catches anything of another system trying to run, it will reject it and either bootloop or reboot. The secret is in the boot stage not interacting with factory boot at all.
wow...you guys are talking way over my head. i understand somewhat, but at this time, i can't contribute anything but funding.
and emotional support !!!
let me know what a non-coder like myself can do to help you.
so far, we have $175 available to dev who creates recovery.
Devs,
Just want to make sure you dev's are working on the Xyboard 10.1" with LTE connectivity and not just the wifi only device.
It's the Xyboard MZ617 7444.
Realy guys i don´t want your money
On my phone we got a CWM recovery via hijacking battery_charger.
That means when your phone is of and connect it to any kind of power supply it normaly starts this huge battery loading animation.
We simlinked this battery_charger script to a folder that excutes the CWM.
So everytime i shutdown the phone and connect it to powersupply i´ll enter CWM.
I´m quite sure this will work on your tablet, too.
I just can help you with this kind. When your aim is to get a real 2nd Init i can´t help you,
because there my knowledge ends too.
But for beginning i think it would be nice to have any kind of custom recovery, or?
To beginn i realy need the init scripts guys. Open your filebrowser and go to internal storage root, there they should be.
Sorry was abroad for some days
Yes, any kind of custom recovery would be nice. Here you go with the init.
Any information on how you are going to do this would be nice so we can alter this to our needs (thinking about some bootloader to choose weather to load cwm or automatic just charge after some seconds would be nice)
What are the limits of this way? Guess we will not be able to flash kernels, right?
First off, sorry for double-posting
having read myself enough into 2nd init i guess there will be no way to get this running on our xoom2/xyboard models, as the devices need to be running some froyo-kernel to get this working. Maybe even a tweaked gingerbread-kernel can be used for 2nd init, but it should not be possible with honeycomb or even ics. So i guess our best bet is to concentrate on the option luxxx123 is going to give us.
Wow...interest seems to be picking up! That's great.
the Xyboard is really a pretty good tablet.
What you guys are discussing is slightly over my head so i'll just lurk and help when i can.
The kernel version is 3.0.8 Does froyo go into the 3's? I thought it stopped at 2.6.

Youre right... Froyo stopped at 2.6 but if i recall it correctly the hijack of 2nd init doesnt work with newer kernel versions. But i would be glad if i was wrong here

I tried pulling the 2nd init and hijack from my Droid 3 which has Hash's Safestrap. I customized a few things for my Xyboard and put the files in place but it put it into a bootloop. You just may be right.

I'll save you guy some trouble, boostrap and safestrap won't work, bootstrap hijack method will not work, bootstrap is open source and you can find all the stuff on github by koush, safe strap by hashofcode will not work, it utilizes the same hijack binaries of bootstrap, this is also open source on his github,
Both can be built from the source, with the recovery files build from cm9 or cm7 .
I have built the recovery and the bootstrap they simply do not work.
That said i have gotten rid of my two (I even at one point offered to send one of mine to a known developer, not one took me up on the offer that's why I learned how to do it myself.
Now someone here brought up a way that peaked my interest, syslinking the charge while battery off script to a custom script to boot into a custom recovery' (cwm or twrp) this seems like the most likely at this could be done.
Someone with some time could find the script in question and post it I'm sure myself or someone else could get something going.
