i have a tilt 2 im running xdandroid the two led lights next to the ear speaker wont go of the green on will stay light up and it alternate between orange
That's normal. See the Project Android FAQs:
My Notification LED is always on?
Current state of the Notification LED is more for diagnostic purposes. It isn't functioning yet for true notifications. It is more for diagnostics right now from my understanding to let you know that the phone is in sleep mode. If the light isn't Green when sleeping then it hasn't ran it's power collapse mode and it is draining your battery. I get an occasional Flash from Green to Orange and I assume it is when the phone wakes up to check things like mail etc. But otherwise it is Green all the time the phone is sleeping. Which is good!

thanks over looked that

If you have a Tilt 2, then you only have "ONE" notification LED. That is to the left of the ear piece.
You also have a proximity sensor, which is on the right of the ear piece. The proximity sensor should never show any type of light.

The blinking LEDs either side of the speaker don't work.
The one on the right which I believe blinks red to indicate notifications and missed calls have never worked and the green one on the left which shows you have reception has stopped.
As far as I can tell all is as it should be in the settings.
The one on the left of the earpiece is the LED, the right is the light sensor that adjusts your screen brightness. Below is a description of the LED lights straight from the manual that came with my Tilt2.
* The Notification LED shows a:
Flashing green light when there are new SMS, MMS or email messages, missed calls, or reminders.
Solid green light when the device is connected to the power adapter or a computer and the battery is fully charged.
Solid amber light when the battery is being charged.
Flashing amber light when the remaining battery level reaches below 10%.
how many threads in how many device forums till everyone knows thats not an led. it even says light sensor in the manual.
Oops silly me. RTFM.
Thanks for getting back to me.

that wasnt his issue, he had mistaken the lightsensor for an led.
The Home, Menu, Back and Search buttons are suppose to light up. But they aren't what gives?
It might only light up in dark places, I know mine isnt lighting up right now, but it has before.

There are some people who's don't light up, go into the closet and see if they go. Of course then you have to come out of the closet eventually
This happened to me. The lights stopped working all of the sudden... and then randomly started to work again. Don't know what the deal is.
They don't seem to light up when charging.

I noticed this too. If you unplug the phone they should turn on.
I thought you had to be in a dark area cause mine works only in dark places. Sort of like ny work blackberry same thing they light up when its dark.

Just confirmed it. There's an ambient light sensor on the right side of the HTC logo. If you angle your phone right in the light you can notice it....

Hah, you're right... I just tested it too, I turned the corner lamp on in my room but the button lights kept lighting up when I waked the phone... I walked up to the lamp, waked the phone up while it's facing me, buttons light up, wake the phone up while it's facing the lamp, buttons don't light up. I'm not sure I would've noticed that if I hadn't read thru this thread, heh.
Anyone know a way to turn these off for good? It's a bit annoying/distracting when watching a movie in low light...
I am OMJ's Rom on my EVO rooted with toasts method plus the radio update and the led's under the front buttons are not working. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an app that controls them that was removed?
The lights will be off when the phone is plugged in and charging.
When exactly are the lights under the four soft buttons supposed to be on?
On my EVO (novatec 003, stock) I have noticed an inconstancy in when they light up. Sometimes they light up when I unlock my phone, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they turn on later, sometimes they don't turn on at all.
This doesn't seem normal to me. What are other's experience with this?
Thanks
they are controled with the light sensor and should be on in low light situations and off in bright lights. you can test this by covering the light sensor to the right of the HTC logo on top of the device.
Thank you @peepeesea that was it exactly. Which is more hi-tech that I gave them credit for.
Also as a side note, since I've been reading the xda forums I feel like a phone hypochondriac. Everythings broken!!
Hello,
I just got a touch pro2 lastweek and I am beating my head trying to figure out what the deal is with the status notification LEDs
I see one to the LEFT of the earpiece/speaker that flashes green every few seconds and then just stops - all the flashing stops. I'm thinking the bliking stops when the phone goes to sleep. So i press the power to wake the phone - but the flashing doesn't come back. I was thinking this is the network/signal indicator but doesn't seem that way.
I see another that's to the RIGHT of the earpiece/speaker that doesn't go on at all.
So no way to tell if the phone is on wifi network or if bluetooth is on (without obviously waking the phone up and checking on screen). I'm looking for a way to see status without touching the phone - like my old HTC TyTn (rest in peace!)
It turns red when you charge you're phone.
It turns green when you are fully charged (with the charger still in)
It blinks green when you have a new message/e-mail/missed call.
It blinks red when you're batterie is almost empty.
That are the basics
thanks! that's about what i seemed to have gathered too... what about that fake light like thing to the right of speaker? never lights up?
and no bluetooth/wan notification ten, right?

thats the light sensor for the screen
adjusts brightness depending on how much light is hitting the phone

That's pretty much exactly it. There is a program floating around that allows you to change the light and customize the reason it flashes, but I think it's just fine the way it is .
it also flashed green then the red light really quick when its overheating :O
thanks for the quick replies folks.
I saw that in the manual too - but i never go by the manuals! i can't count how many times my manuals have been wrong about a particular function.
it's a disappointment since the older Tytn was much more friendly about the notifications. but i'll deal with it.
as far as that being a light sensor - i think it makes sense. I'll try trick it to see what I notice. Then I'm guessing it's the proximity sensor that's around the HTC logo? I think I was in the sun when I saw it but there's some sort of sensor around there. I figured that's the light sensor. perhaps not.
Thanks again!
Ok so I bought a sprint tp2 with a messed up screen (looked like an oil blot in the center). So i replaced the screen/digitalizer from one off of ebay.
Everything works fine and i would recommend doing this for anyone who has a broken screen instead of fixing the digitalizer themselves(less headache involved).
The problem is that I've noticed that led on the left works fine. ember when charging, green when charged, and flashes green when there's a notification. But the led on the right does absolutely nothing. It just doesn't light up.
At first I thought it was the proximity sensor but that seems to be closer to the led on the left.
I wanted to know if the led on the right is suppose to do something? Like on my old kaiser if wifi was on it would indicate that along with gps and bluetooth.
The LED on the right IS the proximity sensor.... Won't EVER light up, and if it did then something screwies gong on...
OK I was just wondering. Thanks man.
the proximity sensor is to the left of the right led

this is correct...
OK now I'm a little confused...sorry. So if you were to be looking at the phone the led on the right is the proximity sensor?
I thought that the proximity sensor is located to the left of the left led indicator and assumed that the right led is actually the ambient light sensor. Correct?
I just wanna make sure everything is working right.
thats what i mean, its nowhere near the right led..
