So I had to do a factory reset on my EVO Tuesday (Stock ROM) because it got completely messed up and the text app wouldn't work anymore, any since I did that I've been having an issue with a change in behavior for the backlight that's driving me crazy.
Pre factory reset, backlight timeout 1 min:
unplugged screen dimmed after 1 min, after an additional min it turned off
plugged in screen dimmed after 1 min, never turns off
After factory reset:
both plugged and unplugged screen simply turns off after one min
The way it's working now is driving me crazy and I have no idea why it changed as there were no changes to the phone, simply a factory reset on a stock phone, does anyone know how to get it back to the old behavior?
Mine does this weird in and out thing. Where it would go bright then go dark , then medium, then dark. I have the auto adjustment on and would like for that to be fixed.
I believe it has something to do with the Kernel. So don't quote me on that.

I've had this issue with five different ROMs including the stock HTC ROM. It doesn't do it when the ROM is flashed freshly but starts within an hour or so, regardless of whether I load any other software on.
Here's exactly what happens. It doesn't matter if the unit is in standby or if the proximity sensor is activated. (On a phone call with phone by head - backlight is disabled.)
When the backlight is off and is activated by either pressing the power button or moving the phone away from the head, the backlight comes on dim, then goes off, then turns back on at regular brightness. The delay between activating the backlight and reaching regular brightness is around one second.
What is going on? This is really annoying. If I'm on a call and want to mute the mic, I take the phone away and "flash, flash, mute". Then I want to unmute and the same thing.
I don't have any software on the phone right now that most of the rest of you don't have. I've got:
AT&T keyboard fix
Dusk lockscreen
PHM Regedit
Safe Inbox Extender
Clock flip disable
1% battery driver
Theme pack for 1% battery icons
I've reflashed and installed none of this software and the issue doesn't occur. Without installing any software, the issue recurs within a day. (Usually within an hour)
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Hey guys so my Tilt 2 has been having an issue when I put it to sleep. It goes to sleep fine, but when I wake it up the screen remains black. The actual device turns on, but the screen stays black. I can still make calls, receive calls, play music, etc. but I have to soft reset the device if I want to be able to see what I am doing.
From what I can tell my problem is different from the normal Sleep of Death issue where the device simply won't wake up.
I've searched through the forums looking for solutions and have tried pretty much everything from doing a hard reset, using different roms, formatting the internal memory, etc. Even after doing all of this, my device still suffers from this issue.
Any insight into my problem would be greatly appreciated!
I assume you've tried a simple reset using the reset button or pulling the battery out and putting it back in?

Yeah every time I the screen goes black I soft reset it in order to get the screen to turn back on. The problem is that the issue persists through soft resets. I currently can't suspend my device because I can't get the screen to turn back on...
hold down the volume down button and then press the reset button (the physical reset button) this should bring you into your bootscreen the multicoloured screen.. if you can get there then you can flash a new rom on your phone... and thats a whole other ball game. It gets a lot of hype as being hard but its really super easy to do if you just follow the directions.
Tilt 2 dark screen solved
With the tilt 2, if the screen does not wakeup, but you can answer the phone, hear music, etc..., it is a malfunctioning light sensor, maybe hardware, or software related (drivers), but it is fixable. Just eliminate all calls for use of the light sensor.
I had this problem and took quite a while to figure it out, as there are several apps that poll the light sensor that cause problems.
First, go to start/settings/system/power/backlight and uncheck the auto adjust backlight option
Second, go to start/settings/personal/buttons/backlight and uncheck the enable keyboard auto backlight sensor.
Last, open advanced config (need to download and install from touchxperience.com, if you do not have it), tab to light sensor and set light sensor polling to disabled.
Now, my phone works normal and will wake up properly from standby like it should. this all seems hardware dependant, as I have in my family 3 of these things and I dropped and broke mine, so bought a new one (4th in the series) and it had the SOD issues, but could restart with softrest. Took me the better part of the day to find a reliable fix, but now all is well again.
Hope this helps other Tilt 2 and similar issues.
Hi guys,
I've a very strange issue with my phone. l'll try to explain it precisely despite my awful english !...
I'm under revolution rom since the beginning and everything worked fine until I tried to use my phone as a modem (for a mac) during my hollidays.
when I go back to "normal" use, the phone started but the screen remained very very dark. I could see that the phone was turned on but it was like if the brightness has been set to minimum. I try to reboot into recovery, Re-flash the rom, restore a backup, etc.
One day, without any reason, the phone turned on normally and worked fine for two weeks. But, during the last night, I put my phone in plane mode and in the morning this ****ing bug was here again !
Any idea or solution ? Note that manipulations are limited because of the darkness of the screen...
hope also that my problem is understandable !!!...
Hi, your English is perfectly understandable.
Is your brightness set manually or automatically?
thank you,
the brightness is set automatically but I would be very surprised if my problem only deals with the brightness setting !....
I must add that sometimes the phone starts on normally but the screen freezes very quickly (at the code pin entering screen)...
I'm guessing you've tried switching to manual and turning it all the way up?
No I didn't...but the problem for now is that I can not access to the settings because the phone doesn't start normally !...
How does it start? Where do you get stuck?
Sometimes I can the HTC logo very dark and sometimes, as I said, the brightness is normal but the screen freezes when I have to tape my pin code.
I can also access the recovery mode, sometimes, by doing power button + vol. down button. By this way, I tried to reflash the rom, do a factory reset, but nothing works....
Whilst in the bootloader does the screen look darker there? Should be bright white, with text.
No, in the bootloader, I can see the text but it's also trough a darkened screen !...
If your screen is dark in the bootloader, which should be bright white then you have a hardware fault. Reflash a stock PD98IMG.zip or RUU and contact your network/HTC for a repair.
Hello,
Yesterday when I was done working and got my phone from my locker, I opened an app and immediately
the screen went black and appearantly the phone had switched itself off. I turned it back on wondering why
it did this, but as soon as it had started up and the home screen appeared, it turned itself right back off.
I tried turning it back on about 7 or 8 times until the battery ran out and I could not try anymore.
When I got home I put it on the charger and fortunately the phone stayed on, however the top of the screen
seemed to be 'trembling' a bit and some pixels were changing from light red to dark red to light red etc. (my home screen is red)
I decided to leave it charging overnight and when I woke up, the trembling had disappeared. I took it off the
charger and after scrolling through my Facebook news feed, found that battery percentage was decreasing quite
quickly considering it's on power saver mode. I thought it might be that the screen brightness is too high, so I went
to settings and tried to adjust the screen brightness, however it is not responding? My screen brightness stays
exactly the same no matter whether I increase or decrease it, and when I was doing that the phone switched itself
off again. I put it back on charge now and turned it back on, but I am quite annoyed about this issue because I
do not know what it is and my phone is only 5 months old. I hope any of you can shed some light on the situation.
Summary of the issues:
- Phone switching itself off
- Screen trembled yesterday
- Battery decreasing quickly
- Brightness setting not working
Info about the phone:
- HTC One X 5 months old
- Android 4.2.2
- No adjustments made to the phone with rooting or any of that
Thanks!
Must be a hardware failure if you havent changed anything software-wise
Is it overheating?
Is it under warranty?
And other sensors are working? But like TTG TriCkSh0tZz said , use your warranty if you can.

Ok, this is VERY irritating!!! I set my phone on my wireless charger before going to bed last night, woke up this morning and my phone screen has turned to Greyscale. Battery is at 100%.
1st things 1st - My phone is not in Power Saving Mode, nor is it in Ultra Power Saving Mode. Also...... I have already gone to Settings-->Accessibility-->Direct Access-->Greyscale (off).
I have tried toggling all of the above settings (I also have never ever used any power saving/greyscale mode to begin with). I have even tried switching themes, even reverting back to the default original theme that came with the S6. Nothing seems to work.
If I power off or reboot my phone, the boot screen is in color as well as my phone briefly is in color again while android is initiating the phone. After about 40 seconds, the phone turns to Greyscale again.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any other suggestions for me to try?
I am using a stock T-Mobile unrooted phone.
Ok, fixed! There is another "Greyscale" option under Accessibility for Vision, I turned Greyscale off. puzzled as to how that got switched on by itself but at least I know now.
Yes! The accessibility worked for me as well. I had to go to settings-->vision--> color adjustment. Then I had to drag colors in order from like this blue to brown to pink to purple. Thank you for suggesting vision! I was so irritated of the grayscale screen!!! I am guessing that it probably did that due to me ALWAYS going in and out of ultra battery saving mode (just my hypothesis--I might be wrong).
