Hi all. I'm just wondering what that metal strip in the attached picture does. I kinda nicked the part off the screw somehow while taking off the back case and it's been bothering me that it might affect the phone somehow. Thanks!
could be the ariel ?

Hi GUys,
Anyone know if the camera module for the HTC desire is soldered on to the base board?
On my Hero, it was just stuck on and connected via a flex cable...I desperately need to remove the camera module.
Thanks!!!
I have no idea how to do that, but curiosity got over me, so I have to ask.
Why do you want to remove camera in the first place?

Office security policy does not allow cameras on-site :X
And you would butcher your phone to do that? :S
just put a black sticker over the inside of the back cover, try take a photo and show security.
in that case, isn't it better to get yourself a low-tech phone without cam for that purpose?
I mean it's a such a shame to butcher Desire for that reason...
well could you live with a low tech phone?
it isnt bad if the camera is just attached by a flex cable because you can always put it back.
i guess I'll just end up being the first one to try : (

Have a Desire as a weekend phone - crap, non-camera one for week days...job done!!
And defeat the purpose of buying the Desire? Maybe he needs all the features of the Desire while at work where a dumb phone wouldn't cut it?
The sticker over the lens idea sounds good if they'll accept it.

I didnt understand your answer. did you manage to tear out the camera?
"one" referes to another desire or a crappy phone?

Check out these teardown pics.

Looks like it is soldered on.
Hi All
I got my Desire yesterday and played around a bit with it. What I am noticing is that the screen seems to be a little bit uncalibrated. For example, when I want to click on App1, I am clicking on App2 which is underneath it. Seems like my click is effectively being hit on the screen lower than where I intended. Hope I made myself clear.
Can anybody tell me if this happens and if there is anyway to fix that?
Thanks

As there isnt a calibration utility on the desire i think that you may have to contact your provider or htc to find out whats wrong.
aww
provider you mean the shop I bought the phone from?

Yes or if its on a contract to a network like t-mobile you should contact them
ok thanks
Its not that bad actually, maybe I have to get used to it. Thought there was some setting to fix it. If it gets annoying will contact the shop.

It can be a bit different i felt like this when i first got my desire but i have now got used to it!
actually its not a fault in the touch screen cause everything works, its just when I have a list of apps and I want to click lets say on the third one, the fourth one gets launched, and not always happens.
As I said, maybe since I am new to it all so its maybe my fingers that have to get used to it.
I do not think its a fault with the device actually
I had exactly same problem, when I switched to FroYo no problems, so software issue
Hi Benko
thanks for the message. So I guess I will have to wait for the Froyo update, or else I have to root my device, however since I am a complete newbie, I am quite afraid to do that.
Hopefully the new 2.2 will also allow for SD card installations!
You can try the new ROM update from HTC, if you don't have it, personally haven't tried it but maybe it will help
Serch for latest official rom(I believe it is 1.21.405.2)
try calibrating the keyboard, I think it calibrates the screen for other inputs as well.
How do I know which ROM I have presently?

Hi all,
first post here. I've been sucking info from this site for the past year so thank you all for all your helpful info.
I have just bought a HTC one x from a friend with a faulty camera. I was wondering if anyone has come across this fault before. when using the main camera. the screen goes green like it's crashed. all messed up. I don't think it is a hardware fault but then I haven't read this fault anywhere yet.
Yep well known issue.
Its mainly when flash is on right?
This isn't hardware I don't think mate, it is a software bug.

You mean like a disorted Display ?

No, what he means is the whole screen is green, can't see anything, which basically means the camera crashed and is either undetectable or damaged, or a kernel problem
Sent from my faster than SGS3 HOX.
yeah..i also have this pb..when I make a photo with flash everything is green..also after I make the photo also the green thing is on the screen(while I 'm in camera)...
how can i fix this pb?

Yes thats what i mean. Cant see or do anything. green crashed screen. ive flashed it back to stock and its still the same so im guessing it is damaged camera. painful as camera is on main board to cant really replace it or fix it in any way.
Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm debating weather to just sell it on ebay to recoup some of my money. its definitely not the same issue as the green kind of filter that occurs quite a lot with the camera. I posted it as i couldn't find any posts anywhere about this issue.
it s related to KERNEL.. on ICS is find..so it's a software pb.

Hey this Thread is a bit old, but maybe you're having the same problem I am:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41063671#post41063671
See if it's similar.
If it is, I replaced camera, nothing, flashed rom, nothing, not sure if hardware or software yet, but i changed HBOOT and Flashed ARHD 21.0, and NOTHING happens.. still green :\
Yes; my vibrator has come loose lol and is rattling within the phone. Has anyone tried replacing this or possibly have a write up for me to follow? This is very irritating since i cannot tell when im getting messages or calls. Any help is greatly appreciated.

OMG..!!! The very subject line made me think outside of phones!!!! Sorry, don't mean to be mean, just giggling.
Did you try taking it to the service center?
I agree it is pretty funny. But i dont have any warranty for the phone so I was just going to change it out myself assuming it was not too difficult. But i cannot find a write up or anything like that. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links. I saw the tear down of the entire phone, that's what i was going to try and follow. Hopefully all goes well. going to order the new motor and a new front screen as well and get them replaced.
Thank You

Same here.
I'd suggest using Krazy Glue or any form or Cyanoacrylate to secure it in place.
Well, i opened up the phone yesterday to see if it had come loose. but it is still held in place with its double stick tape. So i assume it's broken on the inside. So i will be ordering a new and gluing it into place hah.
Anyone knows where can I get a new PCB for this phone.. Have some troubles which can be sorted out by changing it.. Thanks
