Indeed, the Oxygen version of GingerBread for Desire works great!

The thread for the Oxygen Gingerbread is HUGE! Too long to read the whole thing. Are there any known issues with it--does everything (wifi, video recording) work now?

Dont hold your breath for a sence gingerbread rom soon tho, until htc release a gingerbread rom, we have no source code

Hardly, tried it and there really is no noticeable difference, well not that you would notice for day to day use.

Have to argue, have you tried aosp based Roms like oxygen? brilliant compared to sense, and if you don't like the look? Theme it, use launcher pro and do whatever else you wanna do

Edit: each man to his own of course, but I love the speed over the slight extra functionality of sense

But is there going to be a real version of Gingerbread for the HTC Desire?
I'm assuming they'll stop eventually.

Almost everything works, just a few minor bugs, the most oustanding (imho) being network location based applications and gps navigators not working.

no way of porting 2.2's Sense to 2.3 then?
although as we know everyone wants the new sense 2.0 anyway

Yeah the advances off the HD rom but with the new keyboard and they make the Desire a payphone......

Agree, don't see HTC rolling out a Sense-less ROM. And I wouldn't like that either!

It says UI not apps, and engadget is a trusted sourse, im just tellin yall, i dont really care cus i have a desire Z just passing on the news

This may be true,since it would be TElstra update and not an official HTC rollout per usual.
Now if only HTC would realize how sucky SenseUI is and scrap it,and make a totally new UI ,that is sleek,fast,and mainly bloatware free!

It wouldn't make sense for htc to drop sense completely; not upgrading to sense v2.1 is more likely

I hope that we even get it sense or no sense. No update yet just speculations

Funnily enough, their branding consists of a few web-link "apps", and a splash screen on boot up prior to the boot animation. That's it really

HTC should hire one of our Dev's and show who's boss! If a team of 3 can do it why can' a big organisation like HTC do it, does not make sense!

What's not to get? It's Google erecting the ice cream sandwich symbol ahead of the release of android ice cream sandwich OS. You can also see the gingerbread and Froyo symbols in the background

Miui gets what CM gets as MIUI is CM based.
We'll have to see. I hope there is a development section thread when ICS comes out so we can all have a play to get it working. I'd like to be involved.

mainly because im using the x-part version of MIUI which gives me tons of internal space! and i havent found any other rom which has that...
Oxygen used to have it but now its only made for custom Hboots in order to increase internal space...not link the Desires internal space with an Ext4 partition in order to increase it..

so agree with you, we have port from the desire s, but completely non stable, beta and not suitable for everyday use.
Every month we have less developers for Desire, look for exemple: Neo, Baadnewz are gone
But
still we have Coolexe, michaelm_007 and tamirda, and This IS OUR "HOPE"

In a future I think Yes, we will have an ICS port for Desire. But I don't know how fast and stable will be...and surely without sense (too space)

[Q] Sense 4.0

Is it possible to grab the keyboard and transitions from sense 4.0 and use them on sense 2.1 or something?

We are still waiting for the release of the HTC one v. It has the same specs of the EVO so once that is released everyone will be pulling it apart like vultures lol

That device is also called Proto, which will be released soon and its hardware is similar to Desire. It's running on Android 4.0.4 with Sense 4.0 on WVGA. I believe its RUU would release soon, and that could be the better base to port. In terms of porting/deving, I'm afraid I can hardly help except for testing it after work.

The HTC proto doesn't have the same spec as it runs on a dual core processor while the HTC desire is only a sing core phone
HTC Proto – will run on a dual-core 1GHz processor with 768 MB of RAM also under the hood and 4GB of usable memory on board.
