[Q] Warranty issue - Desire General

Hi.
I may have to send my desire back to HTC for GPS problems. (it keeps crashing)
As It is rooted and unlocked and has had a few different custom roms on (Modaco, opendesire, defrost etc) Can I just put a RUU rom on it and that will reset it back to as factory or will they refuse to repair it?
I bought the phone on ebay but its still within the 12 months and I dont think its from a net work as it has no network logos.

You should be able to install an ruu and send it out for repairs. Make sure you create a gold card and keep it handy.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Thanks sheik. Thats what I thought. Whats a gold card

As above, you can put the original RUU on the handset and this will return it to factory state, and HTC won't know you have rooted. I did this for a warranty repair.
As for a goldcard, you only need one if your handset was network branded. Infact, I'm not even sure you need one anymore with unrEVOked now anyway?

[Q] Two questions

I'm on T-Mobile UK and getting the DHD soon. I've done quite a bit of reading on rooting and I will definitely do it for the added benefits to my phone. I have two questions surrounding the subject...
1. The VISIONary page says to have a 'safety net' ready before attempting to permaroot. Can someone tell me, or point me in the right direction (Links would be nice) to preparing a copy of the stock ROM to reinstall if something goes wrong? If there are any guides please share =)
2. If I needed to send it for repairs would the only thing I really need to do is to use VISIONary to Unroot the phone? What about any apps that required rooting? Would they have to be un-installed first? I assume that in such a scenario once I got the phone back just re-root it again.
Hi and welcome to XDA.

One such "safety net" is to ensure you have all the correct drivers installed on your host computer, just install HTC Sync 3 and it will take care of that. Also download the correct RUU (Rom Update Utility) for your particular region & carrier. You can use this to revert your DHD to the state it was when you took it out of the box.
Here you can find the --> Desire HD Files. HTC Sync will come on the SD Card of your new phone.

Using the above RUU's your DHD will be factory restored. Everything you did will be reverted back. All the apps you installed will be removed. There would be technically no way HTC would know you rooted your DHD.

Thanks for the answer.
How do I know what RUU to use? From my glance I would assume mine would be the: TMO DE 1.39.111. Also know how I can confirm if it's the same version as mine or older? thanks.
If your getting it from T-Mobile UK then you will need a TMO-UK RUU, sadly there isn't one available yet. The TMO DE is for T-Mobile Germany.
You could use a generic HTC RUU, just find the latest version. If you are planning to root, S-OFF, etc... then avoid this --> RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_ 26.04.02.17_M2_release. As this will lock down your DHD.
Thanks again. Though I'm not sure if I shouldn't just wait for a TMO-UK RUU to make an appearance before I root my phone.....Would a generic HTC RUU work for my current firmware? Also wouldn't a generic RUU be a problem if I tried to send it back for repairs?
Oh also I heard mention of a gold card a couple of times here and there. Would this be needed for using an RUU?
No problem at all,
Yes a generic HTC RUU would work. I got my DHD from Orange UK, as it was from the first batch I received it unlocked & unbranded, just a generic HTC DHD. Although carriers will supply you with a branded & locked handset 99% of the time, people still get generic HTC handsets.
If it went in for repairs, T-Mobile will just replace the software for their own anyway.
A goldcard is a modified SD Card that will allow you to flash unsigned ROM's to a locked (S-ON) handset.

[Q] Unbranded DHD and warranty

Hello!
I made a gold card, used Visionary+ and radio tool and replaced the branded TMOBILE UK rom (which I can't find anywhere anymore) with:
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed
If I need to send the phone to HTC (for warranty reasons), can they see the phone was branded before? Or is ok as to send it as it is now?
Thanks,
diodorus
As long as your handset has stock, unmodified HTC firmware, then I don't see HTC having a problem with your device should it ever develop a fault.
T-Mobile on the other hand may have a problem.
Having sent away my old HTC Hero to T-Mobile for repair of the trackball, my Hero having FroydVillain installed at the time was returned with the latest HTC/T-Mobile firmware and a note from the technician/engineer saying "don't do it again!"

[Q] Cat ate the Gold card and need to unroot.

Right, I have a slight issue.... my wifes phone is playing up at the moment ... the dreaded reboot issue when ever you do more than make a call, so I need to send the phone back to HTC.
The problem ...
I don't have my gold card anymore ... it was on my desk and the cat must have eaten it! I have tried unrooting without and it stops with an incorrect bootloader message (or something along those lines)
I have managed to boot back into Android after clearing all data (via the bootloader), am I ok in creating a goldcard even though I am on a custom ROM and not stock?
Did try Googling but got mixed messages .... not all relating to the Desire either.
Anyone tried unrooting an O2 Desire yet? If so what RUU did you use?
Thanks in advance
Doesn't matter what ROM you are on, you can even create a goldcard without your phone if necessary.
Be careful which RUU you choose, as some of the older ones can cause an SLCD brick (depending on which screen you have).
I'm not sure about the situation with O2, but I debranded my Orange phone with the latest stock RUU as there have been no Orange RUU leaks.
Thank you,
Hopefully that will work, it is going back to HTC not O2, so will probably go for the latest stock RUU (and hopefully the goldcard will work!!)
The bootloader is dated Aug 10 from memory so fairly new and still falls under HTC warranty.
Will post a few more details about the bootloader version later.
Thanks again.

[Q] Recycling phone

Hi there,
I m going to sell my phone to a recycling company so wanted to remove my root before sending it in.
I messed up a number of times by trying to install a lower version RUU, ended up with no ROM and unable to flash another ROM.
I remembered that i originally de-branded the phone using the WWE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048, so used my goldcard and re-flashed.
So I am now back with working phone. Is it ok to send it like it is now or should I downgrade the hboot and flash with my original carrier RUU?
There aren't any further updates after froyo from HTC anyway, so they wont need a gold card and my phone is unlocked.
thanks
removed....

[Q] How to S-ON and unroot the Desire with blank Screen?

Hi guys i took my Desire with me to a Outdoor trip and guess what now my phone doesn't work
I looked around a little bit and found that actually i don't get something on the screen its just blank but touchscreen works i can unlock the phone and the PC sees my cell.
Now I want to send it to warranty service but I don't want to lose my warranty so I want to S-on and unroot my cell.
I think this process would be pretty easy (since rooting and S-off where easy steps ) but now that I don't see anything I need your help guys.
My Desire:
Pvt-3 S-oFF
Clockworkmod Recovery
MIUI XJ
If someone could tell me the steps and the button I must press (like press five times down then enter...)
Guys from Germany how is the HTC service did they check for thins like root to void your warranty or would they replace my phone without asking?
And Guys from Turkey if my phone would be replaced I would get a new IMEI can I change this IMEI with my old registered IMEI or do I have to reregister my phone wich would suck (how I hate Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu)
I had my HTC diamond at the German HTC service due to a broken usb port. Warranty repair was refused because of a modified bootloader. At least I didn't had to pay for the failure analysis, after several mails I had sent them. Usb port was broken because of too high current and not a software mod btw.
Still you can try. Maybe fortune is on you side.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
just do it like it is explained in the guide just do it blind
1.flash downgrader hboot
2.run ruu upgrade
should be really easy
