[Q]CM+TVout? Teamdouche, I'm lookin at you... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I just have to ask point blank, will TV Out ever be a feature of CM for the Incredible or should I stop holding my breath with schoolboy like anticipation? I love the ROM, the customization, the speed, the lack of Sensehogs eating up precious resources, the power control widget in the drop down, everything; but no TV-Out make it a no go for me as I use mine as somewhat of a mobile drive in (Side of building + D'Inc + projector + bluetooth audio to the car stereo = one killer date night hehe). Please, if you're not one of the CM developers (Cyanogen, Koush, et al...) then please don't answer this question, as I wanna hear straight from the source; but if you know one of 'em, please let 'em know!

A2DP performance

Just a relatively short question about bluetooth audio performance.
Been using Meschle's Touch 3.0, currently drooling over getting a bigger SD card for my music, but thats another story.
I've just started to use bluetooth music, got my funky headphones and am loving the lack of cables But the phone really slows down when doing so. Everything is in slow motion, if i want to access contacts or programs, the phone becomes painfully slow. I'm thinking that the cube may have something to do about that, but i want to keep this rom on my phone for just a little longer before i reflash.
Will Removing the cube(or changing to a version without it) yield a tangible speed increase or is there something else that i can do to improve performance, currently running @ 247mhz.
Cheers
P.S have the registry modification for giving higher priority to BT audio, maybe that has something to do with it, not sure.
A2DP phone performance
Yes, I discovered that it really slows down the phone if you're streaming A2DP...
two solutions/workarounds - 1: use a lean rom - I'm now back at Vanilla 2.01. Secondly, try using CorePlayer (www.coreplayer.com, serials are 'available') for playing the audio - it's far more efficient over a2dp, so should make an improvement
what we can expect ? An OMAP 201 event overclocked at 267? If you really need A2DP, perhaps you should change your pda.
Biou, your post isn't helpful in the slightest, did i sound like i was making a complaint? which part did i say i need A2DP? Do you have money to throw around whenever you see a new feature? I sure as hell don't! I've got bills to pay!
'Perhaps you should change your pda' isn't going to help me in the slightest!
But i suppose i should expect that kind of response on a public forum, I suppose my expectations are too high, even here!!! How about this......if i 'ever' post another question again, please choose to ignore it unless you actually have something useful to say, thanks and goodbye!
And now thats over with......
TangerineTractor: Thanks for the insight, i was leaning towards getting a lighter build, the cube feature isn't something that i ever use, so that can go without hesitation, but......everything else........i love all of the little extras that come with the rom, plus the HTC home integration with audio manager is sweet too. although the audio manager isn't the best playback software out there, it's the ease of use which has got me.
Lots to think about but i'll probably use one of the lite(no cube) Artemis Touch 3.01 roms, and chop from there. I'll check out coreplayer also.
Thanks again!
Hi bro,
I have went through lots of painful experiences in tweaking the ad2p settings when I was using HP rw6828. For artemis, its is a really painless to tweaks the settings. But for AD2p, if you are using the direct way of streaming, it is normal to experience lack.
You may wish to try MIS Blueplayer which gave excellent sound quality. but apparently, tweaks need to be made so that you can have the player playing in power saving mode.
Hope this helps.

Well, I decided to upgrade to Meschle's Non-cube 3.01 firmware, opted for the full version as most of the extra's don't necessarily run in the background.
Seems to much smoother without the cube running in the background, and as i never really used the cube, it's not exactly a feature that i'm going to miss.
Bluetooth streaming does seem to take quite a bit out of this poor little phone. But i'm still loving it.
Now all i need is my psp bluetooth adaptor, and 8GB memory card, and i'm all set

[Q] optical trackball problem - any way to disable the sensor?

After some water exposal, bottom hardware buttons (along with optical trackball) refused to work.
I have fixed them with some precise inside cleaning, but the optical function (not the button himself) continues malfunctioning, which is not a big deal for me, but..
The exact problem: i spotted in dark environment, that the sensor inside continuously glimmers in all modes - scren-off, scren-on (without puting finger over him), etc.. In return, my battery drains extra aprox. 10-12 mA!
I have observed, that in healthy device, sessor glimms only when interacting with him..
Is there a chance to disable this sensor to avoid this? I hope in software manner
I don't think there is anything out there that will disable the optical pad. You could give HTC a call or your carrier and see what they say.
There is this thread on the forums about turning off the backlights.
Should work for trackball as well? Probably. Something about LED Hack on the first or second page. Seems to be something on the 3rd page as well.
Go have a read over here (I just skimmed. its 2am lol) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704977
@formformer
If you tell me your kernel version I will try to build a kernel without trackpad support!?
@Meaple 's post was sadly adequate and rips best hope in me ;( ..
@eden2812 I have using 2 led hacks from previous attempts to minimize energy consumption & eye comfort, and they shurely don't do the "trackpad sensor shutting" job..
@AndroidJaspie
it's so damn cool to offer this kind of experience. salute!
i have likely using latest Ginger Villain's compilation, but any recent rom-kernel set, with weak appetite fits my best.
i will be very patient to hear from you..
my current setup is:
OK I built a new kernel from the cyanogenmod sources now without trackball support. I tested it with GingerVillain 1.4 and it worked.
please make a backup and then give the update.zip a try.
Tell me if the new kernel solved your problem or not.
Jasper
Yes Jasper, obviously the sensor is shutted (no glimmering observes) and the xtra drain is all gone now!! I'm so pleased.
But i have found, that the bottom buttons (including the button under the optical trackpad) not waking the phone any more. Is this issue related?
And another, not so important question: Would be this kernel compliant with other Gingerbread releases? or.. could you give me some hint, if is possible to transform your "surgery" into a some kind of a patch, that will give me opportunity to enjoy any feature kernel/roms?
Again, BIG 10x for your respond in this custom problem so far! You make my life happier
karel
No problem i like it to work with things like that. So it's a good chance to improve my knowledge about linux and help other people at the same time.
Are you talking about the all buttons or only about the button around the optical sensor?
If you are talking about the one around the sensor then it's normal that it won't wake up the phone any more. But the others(home, menu, back and search) should work like before.
This kernel works only with cyanogenmod and GingerVillain. On other rom's like Oxygen it doesn't work. But you i can compile you the kernel you want.
At the moment it's only possible to disable the trackball only by editing the kernel configuration. But i will try to get it working without changing the kernel so that you can use every kernel you want.
Jasper
i told so, about the relation of shutted sensor and not working buton.., but yes, others buttons also not working in lockscreen-off mode, where they should or at least worked before. (volume butts still works for wakening..)
ps. a have barely no linux skills, but its interesting for me either!
and if editing & compiling is not so high level task, im going to try first steps right now!
Any way, disabling track sensor without editing kernel settings sounds like a dream..
k
hi, my fried
could you tell me, where in the config I can find the exact setting and how to change it?
hi
if you got the kernel source you can make menuconfig to configure the new kernel. To disable the trackball go to "Device Drivers" --> "Input device support" --> "Opticaljoystick". To disable the joystick press "n" to enable it press "y"
Don't know how to comile your own kernel?
here is a useful links that helped me, too:
-[HOW-TO] Build your own kernel package from source
huh.. 10x 4 the guides, they light me enough to get started week ago, but i get stuck just in the beginning (problems with MBR or something..). and at this moment i have absolute lack of time to deal with this interesting stuff. However.. can i have one more last ask from you: to compile for me an updated kernel.. (they says he has the ability to record 2way call conversations..)
Using the Ginger Villain rom, suppose with this richardtrip kernel. Guess CM will worx too..
Thanks anyway!
ok
a bit late but here it is
a new kernel version 2.6.37.2 from the richardtrip-sources.
kernel features:
-disabled trackball
I don't know anything about "Two-way call recording kernel support" but i will try to find out as much as posible to configure a kernel with it.
jasper
Hi AndroidJaspie, i've the same problem with the optical trackball of my desire. I use the miui rom with the kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-g8913be8. Can i use the kernel in your last post? thx bye

[Review] Sense4a - The joys and gripes of running HTC made software

So now I am running the TSM UltimateKangBang made possible by Nitsuj17 and the deluge of other people whose work is ingrained into the 0's and 1's that is currently making my phone's MSM8255 chip brim with life! Previously I ran the stuff from the good people behind TeamKang and their AOKP - essentially Android 4.0 as Google envisioned it with a little spice and Unicorn Porn! (Trust me, there is an app called that on AOKP, but it isn't what you may think it is ) Since this is a review, expect a fair share of biased opinion being present and categorical truths about Sense4a and the AOSP design! You've been warned.
I am not all in for the Spartan and frankly "cold" and unfriendly feel that Google went for on the ICS.. It seems too clinical, too sterile. Nevertheless, I do like it over previous iterations and I love the fact that there seems to be a level of consistency in the UI.
On the other hand, I love the feel of Sense4. It is cheerful and friendly-looking AND at the same time looks smart and professional, a feeling that I didn't get during my brief experience with a Honeycomb Samsung Tablet. On the flip side, the Sense4 apps seem to lack the same ease of use and simplicity that Google's vanilla version has. For instance, even though it has been sometime since I used the Email app on AOKP, I know exactly where each button is and how to go about the app. The Email app on Sense4, not so much.
The Good:
Let us get down to it. Things that are nice about Sense4 are the animations. Many are subtle, but the best is the most conspicuous animation of them all - the screen unlock. The little metallic ring zooms out of the screen in a magnificent way. Also, if you randomly touch the lock screen, the ring jitters with a forceful smash on the ground-like effect, causing ripples to emanate from it. I say, cool
The whole ensemble of animations makes the phone super smooth and slick. I had issues with animations and screen transitions on AOKP, on a regular basis. But on this ROM, I have yet to experience one, and I have installed ALL my apps to the point where I ran out of internal space to install apps! And still, the OS is smooth. At one point, I was contemplating the possibility of buying a new phone as my DInc2 with AOKP was not smooth enough, leading me to believe that it must be the poor hardware. Well, with Nit's Sense4a ROM, I am happy to note that that is simply NOT the case. Well, for once I am pleased with the outcome of a skin made by a manufacturer. It means a lot when a not-so-average Android phone user, like me, says "Well, HTC, your skin is *not* the worst!"
HTC also did a pretty good job with the lockscreen. The missed calls, messages, calendar events, etc. appear prominently on screen. I like the alarm and timer events too. And then to activate any app or action icon, you need to drop it into the ring. Neato! A constant issue I had with AOKP and I believe CM9 was that after locking the device with the power button, when I turn on the screen with the power button, the phone momentarily displays the app/homescreen I was viewing before realizing that the phone is actually "locked" and then showing the lockscreen. No matter what setting I changed, this issue didn't go. Thankfully, however, this is not a problem on the Sense4's lockscreen which does what it should and not reveal my secrets unauthorized, even for a moment!
The widgets are nice as well. I've been dying to find a Calendar widget that works as well as the one on Sense, and now I have it. The email, music and weather widgets are great too. However, I am a bit disappointed that the homescreen is a 4x4 grid. That is a waste of screen real estate, but unfortunately I was unable to use HTC widgets on a third party launcher (bummer). I also do not like Google's decision OR HTC's to make the app drawer have horizontal pagination. That is a major PITA and slow. A vertical scroll is so much faster to make you reach the last app... On the plus side, it has tabs for frequent and downloaded and you can sort apps alphabetically or date used or installed (I didn't figure that out).
The annoying:
However, it is not all rosy, even for rosie. My main gripe is with the design decisions that HTC made with their apps. Many of those decisions seem to add to the time needed to use the app and makes it cumbersome.
Let's start with Music. To go from Now Playing to the music on the phone, I need to press the back arrow (on the top) and choose "My phone". And then to flip through songs/albums/artists etc., I have to use a drop down menu. Meanwhile, Google Music lets you swipe the lists horizontally to change them. And it always seems to take a moment to load the song list or album list etc.
Next offender, the Email app. Its faults include needing to use a drop-down menu to choose folders that in turn brings up a list of folders to choose from. Google's email app does it better. Also, I need two button presses to go from an email to the next or previous compared to one button on Google's email app, though the AOSP Email app should have been made consistent with the Gmail app where you can swipe to the next or previous email . Nevertheless, it has the ability to show emails in threads, good support for Exchange email.
The phone app also hits a nerve. I believe Google's implementation is pretty much perfect and HTC's doesn't add anything new, excepting annoyances. All you get when you open the app is a dial pad and a list of names. I need to go to a menu to see call history and my phone book. Well, why not just add tabs like Google? The "People" app is basically what I am talking about. If you simply added a 4th tab in that app with the dial pad, that would be a perfect phone app. :disapprove:
Now the camera app is good except for one teeny problem (and I am nitpicking here) which is I need to go to settings to change the camera from back to front. But otherwise, that is well laid out. In fact it is better than Google's in terms of looks (I was always of the opinion that Google's ICS Camera app was made by someone who couldn't make small graphics and so chose plain colors to make the UI. Something I would've done) and also because you can either take a photo or video by just changing the button you press unlike in AOSP where you need to go through some button presses before that happens.
At this juncture, I'd like to note that I <3 the Camera on TSM ROM! It works! 720p video and panorama mode and the many other modes (except slow motion capture, which recorded at normal pace)! And no tearing in Camera360 or other apps! There are still some glitches with the app and the framerate of the 720p doesn't seem smooth, but that is understandable given that we are working with leaks only! So you heard me folks! If you want a proper camera on ICS, this Sense4 ROM should do the trick...
Back to taking a swing at Sense4!
Now comes the notification panel. There are way too many icons on the top bar, especially when I listen to music. There are a total of 3 icons telling me I am listening to music: The headphone icon (thanks, but I jolly well know there are headphones attached to the phone, mainly because I put it there!), the beats audio icon (I believe this is a product placement decision. It is obvious that HTC is making a ton of money simply due to that software redundancy...) and of course the "play" icon of the music player. I also don't like that there are no notification toggles that can be hidden/shown as one pleases like on CM9 or AOKP (activating it in the tweaks causes it to show ONLY the toggles and no other notification when I have no notifications that can be cleared, even if I have notifications that CAN'T be cleared... )
Frankly I don't care for the "Beats audio". It may work better with some beats audio hardware in the phone and may be the actual earphones themselves, which I can't be bothered to buy. But I liked Google's MusicFX app... It gave me a nicer sound. At times I feel the beats audio sounds richer and more even, but the volume is low to appreciate the whole dynamic range... I heard louder sound at the same volume on AOKP.
So there you have it. My impressions on Sense4. The central theme behind the shortcomings of the HTC apps seems to be the usage of the drop down menu rather than using the more accessible tabs available on most default google apps.
But still, I must admit I like how the whole interface feels. I find myself unlocking my phone, swiping through screens and then simply relocking it as I have nothing to do! I can't take my eyes off of that gorgeous interface... As and when more tweaks become available, rectifying the shortcomings of Sense4, I'll be deeper in love with it.
One thing I have to say about the dialer is that full sense 4 is more like the sense 3.5 dialer where it has the people app included in the dialer. Sense 4a is more based on sense 2.1 where it didn't have this feature.

Thanks for the review. I was running MIUI weeklies from about July 2011 until a couple weeks ago. If we didn't get stuck with no new stable builds after 1.12.09, I probably would still be running it. But I wanted to go back and try something else anyway. MIUI customization is second to none, so maybe I'll go back to ICS MIUI as Nits does amazing work.
As of a week ago, I'm running TSM Sense 5.01 M. It runs incredibly smooth and stable on my phone, and everything works.
With the increasing stability of ICS roms, I'm thinking of trying one out. TSM UKB seems to be the ICS rom of choice for many. I appreciate your feedback, and may jump to UKB in the next couple weeks. One thing you didn't mention was battery life. How does it compare to stock, or other roms you've tried? I've been through the rom thread, but since you gave a thorough review of the rom, I thought I'd ask.

Excellent! This one sounds very promising, and I will probably make the leap when I've got some time.
Indeed battery is great. I took 29 photos today while at a job site and have been using my phone since 7:30am (now 6:33pm) and battery reads 58%. Skyraider hated when I took photos. It had great battery life, but camera would eat it up. UKB does not. Fantastic ROM. I do not foresee myself changing ROMs until I change phones at this point.

Battery is great on ukb. I left for work this morning at 5am. I work in a poor reception building...the signal is constantly at 1 or no bars and switching between 3g and 1x. After 13 hours at work my battery is at 52%.

I figured I'd ask here instead of the dev thread, but does the hot reboot option not work for anybody else on UKB 3.5?

This rom really is awesome. Nits has given a gift to the dinc2 community and I still can't help but feel satisfied with this rom (havent switched roms after I used ukb 3.5!!!
But you have an error. The droid incredible 2 has an MSM8655 chip (same as the HTC Thunderbolt)
Also, my only gripe with the rom is the music when you're using headphones, earphones, etc. The volume goes to its max when you raise or lower the volume once. Raise and lower it again and the volume becomes either lower or a little quieter. That's pretty much it. Doesn't bother me too much, but it can get tiring at times. Doesn't change how much I enjoy using this rom as my DD. I'd give this rom a 10/10 for its awesomeness.

Calculator (Extended off CyanogenMods)

Calculator
A very simple calculator that tries to make graphing and matrix math as easy as adding or multiplying two numbers. Slide left and right to access more panels. This builds off CyanogenMod's and Google's calculator and requires v4.0+.
I already posted about this in in Android Apps and Games where it got quickly buried and disappeared in, I'd say, 6 minutes. :] But I'm hoping I can repost it here since the Nexus 7 was my test device for the tablet UI. If you like what CyanogenMod did to the native Calculator on CM9, you can now install it on any Android device as long as it's at least Icecream Sandwich. It also now graphs, does matrix math, and can solve equations (and it's Open Source to boot).
There are some bugs (and I'd love help on them), and I'm looking forward to feedback, but it's stable (Especially for the Nexus 7!), fast, and attractive. The bugs are mostly edge cases, and are purely graphical (so no crashes, hangs, or wrong answers). I hope you enjoy it.
The other thread is here.
i played around with it a little while. I find it a little bit confusing. I can't seem to figure out how to graph an equation. And how can I integrate from a to b? The controls are very confusing to me
If you have an X or Y in the equation, than the = sign will show up (as opposed to solving the equation), and you can complete the equation.
6 + 5 (equal key) will return 11
Y + 5 (equal key) will return Y + 5 =
It mixes functionality, I know. The only alternative I could think of is a Y= key (instead of a Y key). Would that be less confusing?
As for integrating from a to b, it currently only does indefinite integrals. I'm considering a popup that asks for a and b when you press the integral sign, but haven't gotten to it.

[Q] CM10.1 Wishlist

I know that CM doesn't really have a request thread, they don't monitor the development threads and I know of no way to request particular features to be added but I wanted to start a thread anyway of all the CM10.1 items I wish they would impliment when time is permitted.
This isn't a thread to discuss the known issues (obviously we all want A2DP to work) and this isn't a thread to discuss other apps that will do something we wish CM would do, it's a place to mention and talk about all the features we would like to see added/changed in CM.
Who knows maybe we will learn some things HAVE been added but we didn't see it.
So I'll start it off with 2 things I wish they would impliment.
1. Allow the user to enter in specific hex values for the LED notification colours. It's really hard getting some colours to look natural and the ability to use hex values would allow us to get better looking LED colours. I know Task's AOKP allows for this and I would love to see it added to CM.
2. More advanced quiet hours. I'd love to see the ability to set more than one quiet time for the day (say at work that uses vibe and LED notifications and overnight which would turn off all vibe, LED and only let phone calls come through). It would also be great if we could set each day of the weekend differently as I wouldn't have the same quiet hours as I would on lets say a Wednesday. The framework is already there, I'd love to see it expanded on.
So there are my 2 wishes. Does anyone else have a feature they would like to see CM impliment that would make your life easier? Is there anything in another ROM such as Task's that you wish was in CM?
Cheers.
I don't really get this. Not to be a stick in the mud, but is it really necessary to state things you wish a rom had?. Some people might agree with you, but is this thread really necessary?
I guess to contribute: I wish CM10.1 had the same circle battery icon as AOKP and vice versa.
