[Q] Dalvick cache - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason when I try to wipe my Dalvick cache, i get E:/ error can't mount dev/block. what does that mean. It still lets me wipe it but, I haven't noticed it before. Its there a problem or has it always been jus haven't paid it any attention? lol

I get this too.. I haven't experienced any downsides from it, so it must not be too horrible.

Wiping dalvik cache in Clockwork Recovery

I searched and didn't find the answer. I perform a dalvik cache wipe via Clockwork and I don't get any confirmation it did anything. It just sends me back to the previous menu screen. Is this normal?

which version? the older versions of clockwork had a bug that it didnt actually work to clear dalvik but if you update to the newest one available it does now (easiest way is just to install rom manager and let it update it for you)
mine doesn't show anything either. it pauses for a few seconds though so i'm assuming that it does it i've got 2.5.0.1 which i think is the newest one for the EVO.
I have ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
It says it's the latest version
Mine does the same thing
What's a few extra seconds to make sure the dalvik is emptied?

On the Evo, the Dalvik cache is located in the /data directory, which is itself completely wiped when you do a data wipe / factory reset. If you do this first, then try the Dalvik wipe, it will just go back with no pause or confirmation. If you try to wipe Dalvik before wiping /data, it may pause a bit longer (0.7 seconds, maybe) and then return with no confirmation.
Either way, if you do a /data wipe you will be wiping Dalvik, but upgrade CWM if you're worried about it.

Gapps and CM7.0.2

Ok I downloaded gapps.gb to get the google apps for cyanogenmod7 the newest version. but the gapps.gb is the universal one that works for all cm7's, BUT my main question is that it keeps telling me to force close my google applications(i.e market)
If you can tell me how to install it properly it would be much appreciated.
what were the steps u took..did u wipe cache and dalvik before u flashed the gapps

From recovery wipe cache and dalvik, flash, then reboot.
I'm not going to lie, I have no idea what you mean by wipe the cache and dalvik. I never heard of that.

Bud ... you need to do some reading before you do something that is really going to mess up your phone. As for wiping cache and dalvik cache ... go into recovery, and click on wipe. You will then have the option to clear cache/dalvik. Might want to clear each one twice.

[Q] No 3G or Wi-FI On CM7.1, Help?

I have posted this before and thought i had fixed it but it is back and my other method isnt working this time.
I flashed CM7 ages ago but since january this year my 3g has been acting up and now i have no 3g or wifi at all and the status bar icons for them have turned white but are still there. I haven't tried reflashing cm7 but i will try tomorrow is there any alternatives to reflashing?
P.s. - my 3g and wifi work on stock Froyo
Before reflashing, did you do all wipes (dalvik, cache...)?

He is right, try wiping dalvik cache... If that doesn`t help the only other option is flashing the rom again.
Ive wiped cache and dalvik cache but that was the other method which worked before. I dont think it is actually wiping my cache because my cache and dalvik cache are on sd... so ill move them back then wipe them again and ill repost what happens.
Thanks
EDIT: I just remembered that my cache is cleaned daily by an app so ill just wipe dalvik.
Seems to have fixed it for the moment, but it might re occur like before. Thanks anyway.

[Q] CWM wipe does not work?

Hi you guys. Im have a bit of trouble whit the CWM. Im stuck in a kind of bootloop after updating to latest CM10. It boots up and i can access my homscreen for like 6-7 sec, but then it reboots to bootscreen.
So i thought i have to wipe my data, get it back to factory state. So i do that, wipes cache to. I have even tried the Mount and storage > format /system /cache and /data.
But when i re-install my rom allmy apps, wallpaper and that, are all where i put them. I can even mange to open some of the apps whitin the 6-7 sec window i have before the phone will reboot. The CWM says it done all things right. No error messages at any time ...
Any one whit an idea to get this back on track ?

are you wiping data(factory reset) or are you just wiping your dalvik and cache?

OK do what simms22 has explained. That should work.
But from what I am interpreting is that you are doing cache not wipe. So you go to "wipe data/factory reset" menu and hit/press yes. It should wipe it and done. BTW it might have been in a boot loop because you might of dirty flashed or you didn't wipe cache and dalvik cache. That is very important to remember. Never dirty flash and also wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Also did you play with tweaks and such before this was happening. Like voltage or over clock because that could be the problem too.
Dalvik cache and cache are hash signed by the last rom that was flashed. New rom, new hash sign. No need to wipe caches, just data.

Cwm is notorious for failed wipes.
Definitely upgrade to twrp, and if your phone is so messed up twrp can't wipe it, use the android revolution wipe script.

If you're backed up and don't mind losing EVERYTHING, yes, EVERYTHING in /data, then boot into fastboot mode and run
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
from your computer. (Might need root privileges if running on Linux)
Hi guys. I got it to work finally. I didt some tweaking whit the DPI. Maybe that was the cause of the crash ??
But i went to use the Galaxy Nexus toolkit, first of all to flash the other recovery program. But since it dint work either i flashed it whit sock rom, from the same toolkit at started all over. That did work, but hell of a way to go

Lolipop and Dalvik Cache

Just curious is it normal for android 5.0 to use so much dalvik cache mine is about 450mb I used titanium backup clear dalvik cache after restart android optimizing again at boot up.
Yes.
Even tho Lollipop is ART, it still caches the compiled apps in the dalvik cache folder.

Question, since lollipop is using art, is it bad or hurts it any to wipe dalvik? Haven't read enough about it I guess.
Wiping dalvik has borked Dompop a few times for me. Wiping cache has never been a problem though.
It kinda defeats the purpose ART now on and further down to road and still uses dalvik, discription change log says no more dalvik cache yet ART depending on dalvik. on kit kat my dalvik was always empty time time if I'd removed system apk then there would few mb's of left over data.
Aye its borked for a few people, suprisingly it hasnt for me... Takes alot longer for that 1st afterwords tho... Like, fresh clean install long LOL
