I have a question that I couldnt find an answer to...
Does the SD card have to be clean? Cant I have Android and my WinMo apps on the same SD card?
I really want to try out Android, but I do not have a spare card.
Thanks
u dont have to clean the card (unless u are using a rom that specifically requires you to format the card, like Cyanogen or Neopeek roms)
However, its usually suggested to backup and clean the card when u first install android. what i usually do, is backup my stuff, clean the card, install & boot android once.
then put my stuff back on the sd card
oh right ok thats good to know! thanks alot for that, i'll do it like that then

hi all,
as i was testing my new desire using the 4gb card it came with, i did all the rooting with that card in, am now running on defrost 3.1 and all my mods are done.
I tried to partition my other 8gb card using the rom manager on another phone as my phone wont run without the sd card in, then once that was done, i cloned the cards ie copied the data on my mac, then copied it off to the new card.
started the phone with the new card but most features of defrost are not available and alot of the apps are missing.
now when you go to the application manager, it shows you where stuff is installed but it says they are on the phone, presume this is cos a2sd is more of a tricking the phone than a physical change of location for the installed apps
anyway, so my question is, can you change the sd card without re installing the rom?
thank you in advance
anyone????

sorry mate didnt see this till now. in short no.
your phone should work without an sd in it, format the 8gb card use rom manager to partition or use AmonRa fake flash to partition (i prefer this way) and start over again. i know its a pain but its the safest way to do it.
i personally wiped everything on sd and phone so there was no partition and nothing on the phone, then i flashed my rom (dont do any mods yet) then either using amonra or rom manager, partition the phone may take a while to boot up but just LEAVE IT. then do everything again ie mods and apps. long i know but like i said its the safest way also you cant **** anything up.
hope this helps
I'm running SlideMeRoot and have been happy with it. But, I want more card storage. So I know it's not as easy as just putting in the new card and rebooting -- yes, I tried that. Don't laugh ;-}
So do I need to do a NANDROID backup to the PC and then put the backup on the new card?
Do I need to restore the stock ROM, then re-root with the new card?
Any help would be appreciated. I can follow instructions -- I rooted my Slide using the original looping method <g>
I have the feeling it's something real obvious that I'm just not getting.
Thanks
Pull everythig off the old card. Format the new card (just in case) with your phone or your computer (I'd choose this one). You should format it to FAT32, don't worry about any of the other settings. Load your old card onto your new one and put it in your phone. That's all. Really you shouldn't need to do any of that aside from transfering the contents.
I'm not sure if anything else is involved if you have a2sd since you have to make an ext partition so if that's the case some one else can answer that.
Hi All,
Im currently running Android Revolution gingerbread. I've recently changed from cyanogen to this mod - so far sooo good.
I've had a bit of a look around for an answer to this question but can't find anything definite.
My SD card has rubbish all over it, i want a fresh card - how do i do this ?
If I wipe everything will my Rom run ok? Also i had backups using rom manager however no idea where they are stored....please help a noob like me!
Final question - best way to format the sd card?
If you want to be on safe side, connect your phone to PC and copy everything from your sdcard to your PC. (this is just to ensure that you have backup of your sdcard if you need to use something in future).
Then boot into CWM and format sdcard from there. Do not wipe everything (like system etc. just format your sdcard...Formatting your sdcard won't affect your ROM
There are some notes too about formatting SD Cards here.
(The 3rd option down in the list.)
I formatted my card in the settings on MIUI but now it wont even accept it. It keeps telling me to insert a card even if I try to mount. Cwm is just as bad, won't even let me mount the card there. You think it's damaged? I've only had it a week.

I just upgraded from an 8GB Class 4 MicroSD card to a Memorette 32GB Class 10 card (got it for like £25 on ebay ). I want to move everything on my SD across so I don't have to re-install etc...
I'm not so much worried about my apps, but what other data is on my SD? Is there stuff to do with my root, ROM or anything on there? I see a lot of folders on my current SD which seem to be related to the OS (not things I have created).
Is everything held on the phone, or do I need to clone the card for it to work straight away?
A lot of apps and games use memory card to hold stuff in seemingly random places, just move the lot to be safe.
Do you have an ext partition on your sdcard? If so perform a nandroid backup then copy the entire memory card over then nand restore and your done.
If you want to start again from fresh you will lose any apps saved on sdcard and some data from some apps, probably nothing important like cache from maps. It wont affect your system or root or anything though.
I'm actually not sure what I have. I literally have rooted it, installed Oxygen, installed the custom HBOOT and that is it. I haven't touched partitioning or format type.
What is the default?

If you haven't touched partition or anything your card is default!!
I would copy everything onto PC (backup is always recommended) and then copy onto your new card.... should just work from what you have said ?!

Ah, OK, if it's that easy then... awesome
I didn't know if Oxygen formatted it some special way. Good to know. Is a Class 10 going to make any difference at all. I was going to buy a normal 32gb card, but this class 10 one about £5-£10 cheaper than big brand Class4/6 ones.
Trader has good feedback, I just hope it's a good card...
Balls, I have looked around and it seems these 32GB Memorette cards are hacked and will corrupt data passed 2GB... cancel time.
Figured I'd ask before attempting...
Lots of questions, but who better to ask?
I have a 32gb card in the phone right now, that's storing data, photos, backups, music and tasks plus probably some other stuff that I guess I don't want to lose.
I just purchased a 64gb card that I'd like to install in place of the 32gb card.
I realize I need to Unmount the old card first before removing it, but I'm wondering a few things...
Should I put both cards in my PC and just COPY everything to the new card? Or is there some other way this should be done?
Does the phone format the new card? And if so, won't that erase the stuff I just copied over to it?
Should I let the phone format it first, and then remove it and copy over the stuff from the old card?
I know its probably not the way to do it, but I'm curious...if I were just to install the new card in the phone, what happens to all the apps that stored data on the old card? Will they stop working, or will they just rebuild what they need, onto the new card?
Lastly, I forget as its been a few months since I put the first card into the phone, but...do I need to mount it some way {yes, I realize I"m leaving myself open on that one}
FYI...the phone is rooted, Lokified, Freegee, using Easebackup running stock JB and and I have CWM restore.
On a different note...why do some of the photos I take wind up on internal memory, and other go to the external memory? It seems to do it with the same camera app.

You need to format the new card to fat32 so it can work across all roms and recoveries.
