Pulled the apk from the Desire Z dump and tried to run it on my G2 but it failed , Wondering what else i would need to get this to work
i don't think it will work just like that. you need a lot of sense or such to make it work that's why it never made its way to cyanogenmod .. miui guys from japan know how to do it but i don't think they want to tell how to do it.
You can't run any sence app on anything besides the rosie launcher. You can sometimes install it but it won't work, the app is written deep in the framework.

Kernel most likely doesn't support it.

Something is definitely missing
Just to see what I got, I downloaded the attached APK and used adb to install it, and then ran “adb logcat” while trying to launch it. The result is that it force closes right away, and from the output of logcat it looks like it is definitely missing some sort of libraries.
I'd post the thing but it's huge. Essentially, though, it winds up crashing because it expects something to be present that isn't; that's likely this sense thing that others have mentioned.
I suggest reading (and following along with) the thread in the Nexus One forum about getting FM Radio going on that phone. My guess is that whatever those guys come up with should also allow FM Radio on the G2 once it becomes possible to modify the G2 kernel to get the relavent drivers running.
Like its been mentioned it usually requires sense and the kernel to support it. Only the sense roms on the nexus one could use it. Not a developer at all but from what I understand so far, it is what is required.

it's working on the n1.. i assume you will need root to use it so if u plan not to root then don't expect to see it. for now thanks miui for the help.
Isn't the FM Radio a system app? That means that we won't be able to use it until we have write access to /system. So if you want to be able to even install it properly, you need to wait until we have root. From there we have to disassemble and find all the dependencies on the sense framework and port them back in. Also, I am sure that you'll need to use some of the corresponding libs.
I couldnt be anymore of a beginner at this stuff! Found a pretty thorough vid on how to root so I feel I have that part down. The only thing I cant seem to find a straight answer on is where do I download Froyo?? The rooting method I found I want to use seems to require you to install the new rom right after but I need to get it first. I dont want anything special, just the basic official Froyo for the Tmobile MyTouch 3G Slide. Where do i find it? :-(
Quoted from the CR Mod thread in the development section. (Stock Froyo OTA). If you need further support with the rom please see that thread. It is close to the top.
This >>> CR_Mod_2.13.531.1_OTA
If you live in the dark after my little rants from the other threads its a ROM based off the patch set from T-Mobile's official (unreleased) Espresso 2.2.1 update OTA with all patches from 1.18, 1.27, 1.35, 1.35.531.3, and 2.13 applied. It is rooted and de-odexed but otherwise stock. It has the old market but it updated for me within 5 minutes of signing in. It has LWPs capability in Sense, apps2sd, and the newest radio as it is required for the Kineto features (WIFI calling) etc. I'm spent and need to get some rest.... Have fun guys... CR

i dont know anything about either really. They both seem to have come out at the same time. Im hearing Gingerbread isnt officially out yet but I dont know.
Tried to do the rooting thing today and everything i downloaded for it, i was told i had to download something else for it to work. I barely got started and just frustrated with it. Doubt ill be doing anything now and just live with what I have. Its all just over my head
I feel ya on the "over my head". When i first started rooting (G1) it was trial and error and the slide is much more difficult than the G1 to root. But thats what it is, if your not a computer savvy guy, just trial and error. Depends how bad you want control over what your phone can do.

hey guys,
just curious as it would be much easier to test out roms out before we flash them to our phone...
is there any way to install cwm onto an android emulator or make an android emulator that accepts the .zip files (the compressed rom) so we can view it on the emulator thats on the computer.
no worries if theres nothing like it but it would be alot quicker and easier.
Cheers
Bump for this. I would also like to know this.
i read somewhere that u could run android on ur computer... not sure about clockwork though... dont ask me for the site cause i saw it while i was on StumbleUpon
yeah its in the android sdk on google... trouble is its horribly slow and doesnt run clockworkmod unfortunately....
no worries if there isnt, its just the fact that it would be very nice to test a rom on the pc without having to miss a phone call or spend the time installing a rom then realise it was a waste of time lol.
fingers crossed something pops up in the future ay?

if you're kitted out with the stuff to build CM from source, you can build for the emulator, then put your .img fils in the emulator's avd directory, and it will work.

Is there an online version of the kitchen? I ask because it is the last resort to get a fully functional Rom on my evo before I allow my daughter to have it other than using my nandroid of my original and unrooting.
I use a 64-bit system Windows 7. Done research and it says a 32-bit Java will work but that is false. I have spent from 9am until an hour ago (3:30pm here now) formating my hard-drive and reinstalled my OS because it didn't work. Still the kitchen doesn't find Java although I tried to instal a 32-bit version. Online is the only way I can do anything or I need a step-by-step on what I need to do to an apk where I can do it on my phone or I am in need of someone building a Rom. So.....is there one online?
What are you doing? Making a fully functional ROM? Why not take a stock rooted or a working GB ROM like reloaded?
Yea just get a stock 5.07 rooted rom. Not really sure what you're trying to do

I am letting my daughter have my Evo. She has been hardcore blackBerry but given their status she is wanting to try Android. I have flashed every Rom on the first 10 pages of Development and what she has settled on as far as wanting most is Energy Rom. There are 3 problems stopping her from being totally happy with it. First is the 9016. After a lot of searching all I can find is it is tied to the Phone.apk. I have been unsuccessful at changing it out. The carousel shows only a grey screen when looking in Personalize but have been unsuccessful at getting the one from Mik3D installed and working since I know the one from that Rom works. The browser not going to mobile view and being to wide unless in landscape has been the only thing I have fixed. i used Root Explorer and deleted it and moved a basic stock in. Somehow it worked although the other things haven't. I had decided to try my hand at the kitchen to see if I could make the changes that way but it doesn't work on my PC regardless of what i try and believe me when I say I have taken extreme measures to make it work. So my hopes are that either someone can point me in the right direction on how to exchange an apk using only what tools I can find for my phone or in the direction of a kitchen online. For my phone I have installed: Root Explorer,File Manager and ZipSign2.

She's that picky? Tell her to get an iPhone. LOL
Even she is smart enough to know the first flip phone I ever purchased from Sprint way back when they finally got small enough to fit in your pocket is still better than the best Apple ever released.
However, with a little help I think I can make my life easier. I flashed Derp3D again and only 2 small things needed. First is the keyboard. How do I get the HTC back on and with dictionary? Last is how do I get the weather widget with sound? Those are the only things needed. Themes will be easy enough to handle.
Have you tried MikG v3.11 ? Uber Stable. Has a lot of Themes, and Mods available.

The kitchen won't help you for fixing the things you want to fix )besides the fact that there isn't an online version). The kitchen just essentially makes it easier to do the things you're already doing. But EnergyROm is a Sense 3.5 ROM, which is not what the EVO natively comes with. So, there will ALWAYS be issues with it, like the VVM 9016 texts, no 4G, etc. And trying to swap things in from a Sense 3.0 ROM (Mik3D) will only cause more issues. I think you're going to have to "put your foot down" and let your daughter know she can either have a fully functional ROM that doesn't look exactly as she wants, or she can have the eye candy she wants without full functionality.
There are plenty of fully functional ROMs out there with a Sprint base that don't have the 9016 issue. Honestly, those all seem to be extremely minor issues to me. Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and get her an EVO LTE, lol.
I have seen a lot of good reviews of Kendall's ROM, though. But I'm going to assume that's not what your daughter is looking for. Sounds like she likes the look/widgets of Sense.
I remember back in the day I tried a sense 3.0 rom that didn't do the 9016 or whatever, but I don't see how that bugs her. Its just a text message that would only take 2 seconds to delete. When I ran those roms, it wasn't a big deal to me.
With the sense weather part, still didn't have a problem with that either. Just had to turn sound up.

All credit to this ROM goes to rogersb11. The only thing I did was change the install script so that it works on the d2tmo. With that said, this is an unofficial ROM and is not supported in any way by the original developer. That means don't go bugging rogersb11 with any questions about this. It is unsupported. It is only here so us d2tmo users can enjoy his kick ass ROM until and if there is an official port.
I will help in any way that I can, this is what I am using for my daily driver right now and I love it.
The camera does not work. I don't use my camera much, so I am fine with that for now. If you need a working camera, then this is not the ROM you want on your phone.
A few notes before install.
Thanks to rogersb11 for the Cyanide ROM, TheGeekyNimrod for the d2att port, without which I could not have done this, and leonid002, because without his assistance, I would not have even known how to do this to begin with.
First let's discuss the bugs:
The AOSP Keyboard will continuously crash on you from the first boot. Make sure you have a Google keyboard APK at the ready. This ROM comes with ES File Explorer, thanks to rogersb11, who put the ROM together in the first place, so you should have no problem installing any APKs you need to install, even before replacing the keyboard.
Install Google keyboard, then disable your AOSP keyboard. One this is done your keyboard will work just fine.
The phone will self report as the i747, that is where this ROM came from. As soon as I find what I need to change to fix that, I will update.
I believe the camera bug is still here, havent tested it yet, so just download Nexus camera from the Play store.
Other than that, works great so far.
Anyway, now it is time for the... Wait for it...
DISCLAIMER:
Despite the quality of this ROM, it is an ALPHA build.
Neither I, or any developer is responsible if you brick your device in any way, you're neighbor steals it, your nephew flushes it down the toilet, or you somehow travel back in time to an alternate 2012 where the world comes to an end in December, resulting in your phone being destroyed. Any damage to your device is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
You should be able to use any current Lollipop gapps with this ROM.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Download ROM below
Install a recovery if you don't have one (I use TWRP Multiboot, found in this same forum)
Factory reset (wipe Dalvik, cache, you know the drill)
Install the ROM (link below)
Install Gapps
Reboot into Cyanide
Install Google keyboard (or maybe your favorite alternative, SwiftKey works, not sure about anything else yet)
Disable AOSP Keyboard
Enjoy.

One thing I like about this ROM over CM12 is that the option to adjust your DPI is baked right in. Another is the darker theme, and the fact that you can wake with the Home button once again.

Have a great day!
Here's something for the webOS people: Download the app Swipe Home Button from the Play Store, and configure it so that swipe up brings up recents, and swiping far up brings up the app drawer. Do this and swap the Menu and Back buttons, and it feels that much closer to a Pre, albeit without a keyboard, and on much better hardware. I still wish I knew of a way to modify the recents so we could implement webOS 2.x like card stacks in some form. I will be trying to learn how I might be able to do that in my free time though, that was always my goal since I got an Android phone, was to try and make the UI as intuitive as webOS was. Lollipop delivered with that in a big way, but I guess I'm a little OCD and am nitpicking the small details at this point. I'm not sure how much of it is lollipop, and how much of it is from the Cyanide coder's skills, but it's snappy as hell, and definitely made huge steps towards what I wanted to see Android become.
Now just to get rid of Google's intrusiveness (because let's be honest, you lose much of the functionality of Android if you don't install the gapps) and still keep the functionality of fundamentals like the app store, Maybe a third party solution, kind of like Preware, would be the way to go about this? That still leaves the issue of fragmentation with different apps being in different app stores, however. Either way, this is the best Android has gotten for me, and I can only hope it gets even better, who knows, maybe somewhere along the way I will learn a thing or two and be able to help get there.

In the future, I do plan to start officially building this for d2tmo. Just got a few things to get straightened out before I do. I have the device trees and everything, just gotta tie up some other ends before I dive into supporting two devices.
That said though, I will need testers as I don't own this particular device, and maybe someone to help d2tmo users trouble shoot problems that crop up specifically for their device.

The only things I've noticed so far are as follows:
Firefox makes Metro PCS think I'm tethering for some reason, except for, ironically, when I have request desktop site checked. Opera works great though. Not to mention, if you make sure to go into the settings and put Opera on Phone mode, the look and feel of it just kind of flows with Lollipop's multitasking cards, just horizontally scrolling and vertically closing.
I heavily dislike Chrome, so I don't use it, and couldn't tell you if it works or not, because I haven't installed it.
The stock browser kind of hung on me one time, but I haven't been able to make it happen again.
The phone shuts off without warning, it seems as soon as the battery goes down to 14%
As far as Pandora, I really haven't installed it, because I have Rhapsody. I may give it a shot and see what happens.
The Firefox issue probably has something to do with the lollipop user agent, as I know that this is how Metro blocks tethering. Still weird that it works fine with the other browsers though. Anyway, due to issues beyond my control, I probably won't be online for about two weeks after today, all my bills came up due at once so my phone bill will have to wait until next payday. The extra days off work the week of Christmas really put a strain on my finances. Sure I'll probably hit a hotspot from time to time, but my phone is my main internet connection at home. Hell, it's faster than cable internet or even any DSL connection I've ever had, so why spend the extra money? I'm really surprised how well MetroPCS works in Denver, even without an LTE phone. The HSPA+ is plenty fast. Before the T-Mobile deal, I had a Metro CDMA phone, in Texas, and it was atrocious.
But yeah, I have WiFi at work so I can keep checking in from time to time when I'm out on a smoke break, plus, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for new developments.

I just got the new build installed, the dark color scheme is awesome. I just left in the check in the installer script for the d2att this time, and added one for d2tmo, maybe it will help anybody who may be testing across multiple devices.
In this one I've noticed the AOSP keyboard is working fine so far.
I will upload it as soon as I get the chance.
If you dirty flash over the previous build, make sure when you install the new build to reinstall the gapps. After its finished wipe the cache and dalvik, otherwise Google Play services will just keep crashing.
After reinstalling gapps, wiping the dalvik and cache, I got one Google play services error, but it hasn't seemed to affect anything.
Everything about this is the same as the build from rogersb11, I just edited the install script so that it installs on d2tmo as well. Just like the earlier build, it will be unsupported. There are bugs, and on an early build, that is to be expected. But so far, I've definitely seen an improvement.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Free mobile app
Installed and running pretty smooth. The previous build would randomly advance my clock by 5 hours and would show all incoming calls as from "private". The new build however does none of those things.
So far on the new build, music has crashed once but relaunching it fixed that. I was not sure what nexus camera to get, not to mention their permissions were a bit crazy so I went with Open Camera and it works fine.
Thanks for taking the time to make and port this. The t999 is starting to fall to the way side and I cannot afford a new device so being able to run 5.0 is a blessing.
Working perfectly Thanks to all the devs over at d2att right How come no devs have d2tmo?? Smh.
No SIM
Hey did a clean install and the rom is telling me I have no sim inserted? Anyone else running in to this issue or have a quick fix? I tried editing APN's but it wouldnt save???
Try installing the older build first, and then install gapps, let it run it's first boot, and let everything set up. Then reboot into recovery, and install the later build, reinstall gapps, and wipe cache and Dalvik. Then boot again as normal.
This has resolved a couple of issues for me, although I haven't gotten the insert SIM message with either of these builds. Can't thoroughly test anything until the end of next week though, my phone service is cut off until I can pay my bill on the 15th, and my WiFi reception where I'm at is spotty at best (on all my devices).
Also, I am on MetroPCS, not T-Mobile, I'm just using the T999 on their network.. Which I guess is also the T-Mobile network. Not sure if there are any major differences or not.
The only issue I've had was with su, and after installing SuperSU, a couple reboots, the last one was after changing my DPI to 240, I was able to gain root access.

OK. I encountered one major issue that was a bit scary. Everything was working fine at the first boot (except for the sim card). But, I turned off my phone. I then powered it back on, but it wouldn't boot into Android. It would just get stuck at the initial boot screen and go black. I was able to fix this by removing the battery and restarting it. If anyone experiences this issue, try that.
I tried turning off my phone to boot into recovery, and the same problem happened. I'm going to reinstall the ROM and see if the problem goes away.
