Oh god! I think i did something stupid - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so I was trying to unroot my phone using an ruu update I had. I started running the update then I realized it was an ruu from way back before the slcd screens (I have an slcd screen)
well the update was doing it's thing and now the screen has gone blank! I need some help! how do I undo this? or am I totally screwed?

This belongs in Q&A, not Development... That being said, read throught this thread and see if it helps you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825960

ok. sorry about that. thank you for the info though!

NP, did it work?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

Yes. It worked great.
Sorry for the long wait on a reply. I had to do this while I was getting ready to go out for the evening.

lol that would make front page xda news
Not if they forgot to upload the tut but I'm done with feeling root-helpless so I'm trading in my evo for a new one, hopefully the factory I'd pumping then out without any of the updates.....but I guess I'll let you all know, I'm not good at feeling stagnant waiting for someone else to accomplish an exploit for me

Dude really, come on thats a lame excuse, you came onto the boards, had a question that needed an answer, most people would say "hey look they have a question and answer forum all setup" and then go use it.
And then right at the top is this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747495
Which states in bold letters "THERE IS NO KNOWN WAY TO ROOT FROYO 2.2", question answered and you never even had to hit the search function.
Your question is "root froyo" try typing that in, get back a crap ton of results.
If your ever in doubt as to what to search for just type in a natural language question, ex: "how do I root 2.2" and you will get an answer.

[Q] How to Root your HTC EVO device to download the cool stuff

Well, Im sure someone has already started a thread of this topic somewhere, but I dont have the time to search every thread for it.. Please forgive me since I am a new user to this site. I have recently switched from AT&T using the Iphone 3Gs to Sprint's HTC Evo, and Im really interested in tweaking my device to be able to make it my own super phone(with a longer lasting battery life.. would be very helpful). Obviously, it is a bit more complicated to tweak an HTC device from a blackberry(easy). With the talk of Rooted and unrooted device is a totally different language for me.. So Im just looking for a nice soul out there that wouldnt mind teaching me and showing me the ropes to have my own personal super phone..
Use unrevoked to root easiest way out there. Then download a Tom and flash it. Simple...

Do not use unrevoked 3 if it is a new one.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
if your hboot is .79, go for unrevoked. if it is 2.02, you have a challange. baisically if your software says 3.29 use unrevoked if it is 3.30 something than you are stuck. sorry. if you have 2.20, i would love a tester. pm me or email at [email protected]. when i say tester, dont worry i know what i am doing.
by the way, from now on i would definatelly scour the threads, google (evo xda [question]) and look in the dev section, before asking a much-asked question. most answers are there. i get that it is in greek pretty much, but it cant hurt (usually helps) to ask with a little knowledge.
once again, open for questions

I do suggest you become familiar with ADB, there are a lot of very useful things you can do with it. That being said, there is a program called Android Commander that installs on your computer and has a GUI which makes a lot of the ADB stuff much easier.

Sprint Lover's is the only one that'll work for you currently, though. I'm hoping they can get everything working with the new hboot soon. Got a replacement Evo with the new hboot and I miss my old Rom.

THAT is untrue. Sprint lovers is flashed through hboot, so it is one of the only roms you can use. It is much more difficult to flash any rom besides sprint lovers. Once again, I can help if you ask.
And then I read things like that that make me want to hold off rooting my evo....it was so much easier on the hero!
I don't say that to be disrespectful, I just mean I guess I will wait till there are more options

Issues with hboot 2.02.000, Assistance Needed!!

i just received a new white evo from sprint with hboot 2.02.0000. i attempted to use unrevoked and although it registered as a triumph, i have no changes on the phone. i tried several RUUs to no avail. i cannot load jack. i cannot get into recovery and i have no image or wrong image during hboot. if someone can help me troubleshoot this, it would be greatly appreciated. i have been reading hard on several forums, but since this seems to be a new build i cant find any threads with the same issue. any help???? please note that noob patience is required when replying to my thread. thnx again.
helloi think i have what you need. i am building a 3-command full root for the new hboot. beta testers are in short supply. do you mind testing it out? i will be done with a beta-2 (hopefully a final v1) by tomorrow morning. my email is [email protected]
yeah, ive read ur other posts. i dont have a mac either, but once u get it running on a pc just holler. on another note, im trying to do this now. i just cant get my phone to read an image. i tried copying to root of sd, but it still wont read. i keep getting no image or wrong image. i wanna try the "like a boss" root method tutorial, but i CANT!!! this is heart-wrenching, lol.
Still need more beta testers...nobody has a mac and a unrooted evo!
FINALLY!!!!!!! im rooted. like a boss i might add!! woo hoo!!

lol, yeah, just like a boss. although i didnt have the slightest clue how to even open the command window at first, that tutorial is serious!! dont let it discourage u, just follow step by step and u'll be a boss too. im using fresh right now, but ima prob have tried at least 5 roms by tom. oh, i do have a quest..... i thought the mms limit was supposed to be removed?? is that the 160 character limit?? cause i'm still limited to 160.
nah mms is for pictures. u used to not b able to send much over 2mb, but now its 5mb, and it isnt even compressed to a slideshow format unless its over that. not bad huh.
like a boss is definitely the best. thats what im building my kit off of.
theres no roms with a hack for that 160 character limit??
no. either way, if you go over the phone just sends it in 2 or more parts. same end result.

Power button problems

Starting today my phones lock/power button quit working completely surprisingly after I flashed the latest miui... I thought it was the rom so I went back and redid everything... I'm now on Inc deck and have to use a crappy trackball wake app that works sometimes.... any suggestions?

It is polite when someone asks for help on subject that they are unfamiliar with to post a link. It's not polite to ask for someone to do the work you could do in 120 seconds. It's out there, but I'm not going to search it for you and post the link. Just search the dev forum for unrooting and restoring to stock. You'll find what you're looking for.
it's also impolite to troll... i thought you had a thunderbolt gtfo

open it up,
desolder the on-board memory,
throw it in the microwave for a minute,
resolder the memory to the board;
Good as new

Unrooting Help

So I have been looking around and finding little that I understand. I am looking to go back to stock completely. I rooted and installed lifeless rom and it was great. Then my phone started acting up and sprint said they would give me a new one but my phone is rooted so they can't do anything. They guy said if I unroot it and come back then he can help me. So I am looking to clear everything. I was wondering how exactly I go about doing that.
Thank you in advance.

You installed Lifeless, so it's not a simple unroot. You'll have to use LGNST, LG version of Odin.

He doesn't know how to do his job. Sprint services rooted devices. It's company policy.
