Apparently i screwed up my evo and lost my rsa keys... I always used clockwork but now find out its no good... I just picked up my new evo, i guess i need to root and and use ra amon as my main recovery now.. I used rom manager to try it once but was a little lost...
Does anyone have a guide on ra amon? Also anyone know if i can still use the same root i used before? Which was the one click method..
Thanks
Just make sure u use amon-ra 1.8 and make a nandroid backup. It makes a backup of your good keys. Just make sure to avoid flashing radios for any reason. Your new Evo should have the latest radios(wimax and cell).
Still 8pening from my supersonic on the xda app.
If I get Rom manager and click alternate recovery will it be 1.8??
Also you mention not to flash any radios..
What about this radio?
http://geekfor.me/evo/radio/baseband-215000901/
Its supposed to go with the Fresh's Rom..
Thanks
Have you confirmed that you even need the newest radio? Are you sure its not already on the phone?
But as long as you get that first nand backup done with amonra and squirrel it away somewhere safe, you can switch back to clockwork/rom manager and use that, and flash whatever you want.
And yes, the alternate in Rom manager is the 1.8 you're looking for.

For your purposes, yes. You're looking for the wimax image in the nandroid backup folder.
Mount as a drive and copy the folder in the nandroid folder with today date onto your computer somewhere it won't get deleted. Better safe than sorry.

Ok all set.. Thanks..
Now theres no way a theme could hurt my 4g RSA keys right?
I only say that because my dad with the same phone, has the fresh 3.4 rom, the radio that they say is supposed to go with it, and that's it.
I have all the same except I put the superman theme on there.
I want to start putting this phone together, starting with the rom and theme.. Don't know about the radio deal yet..
Maybe someone can help me with that?
I don't even know how to check my radio but undersoftware info. it lists
android 2.2
baseband version 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e [email protected] #11
build number 3.29.651.5 CL252548 release-keys
Software 3.29.651.5
Browser version Webkit3.1
PRI_version 1.77_003
PRL Version 60671
I know when I install the 3.4 fresh rom my software will go to something like 3.30
But what about the radio?
the information for the Fresh rom radio is here
Download: Radio Baseband 2.15.00.09.01 and PRI 1.77
Geek for Me is proud to release:
Updated Radio.img (version 2.15.00.09.01) and PRI (1.77_003) for Sprint Evo 4g
Does that mean I already have that radio?

Is there a certain place I need to put the zip file for Amon??
Or should I just reflash clockwork and use that since I already made and saved the Amon nandroid backup?
Thanks
Nevermind.. Just realized I have to put the zip file(s) on the root of the Sdcard.

So I got my Evo in November. I was lucky enough to get HW003, so back in Nov, I used Unrevoked (and Forever, I think?). It looks like it all went fine, 4G has been working and I'm fully root'ed. Now I'm ready to jump over to Fresh, but I'm reading these threads about problems with Clockwork. I feel dumb, but I'm a little confused now. Is it safe for me to continue using Clockwork, as installed by Unrevoked? Or do I need to jump over to Amon Ra before I start doing anything? If that's the case, is there a best way to do that? Thanks in advance.
Baseband: 2.15.00.09.01
Software: 3.29.651.5
PRI: 1.77_003

You'll be fine using clockwork. The only problem with clockwork is that it occasionally doesn't clear cache and dalvik perfectly. I've been rooted and using CW for a LONG time. Trust me, it's safe
Cw is safe enough (although most probably use ar), but make sure you have at least one backup done with ar. Cw doesn't back up your wimax image. Ar does, and you may need it someday.

ClockworkMod is not safe if you were to (accidentally) upgrade your hboot. Best to just stick with Amon_RA anyways, since it works properly.
(And to be honest, if you need ROM Manager to flash ROMs, you probably shouldn't have rooted your phone in the first place.)
Thanks guys. Looks like I may as well just move forward with Amon Ra.

The partitions on newer phones is the issue. You can use clockwork if you have older hardware and older camera chip. Just upgrading hboot does not change your partition sizes. I have gone from hboot 0.97 to 2.10 and back down to 0.76 with a launch day evo and partitions stayed the same.
If clockwork worked on your phone before it will also work now. If you have a newer phone with new camera chip there is a high chance that your phone has a different partition setup than the older phones and using clockwork or even regualr Amon-Ra will equally break the phone. There is only ONE version of Amon-Ra that works for these phones and the flashable zip can be found in Zikronix's root thread for hboot 2.02 and 2.10 phones.

I used to agree with you, but not any more. For me, clockwork worked most of the time, but when the possibility is a bricked phone, most of the time is just not good enough. On the other hand, Amon_Ra works 100% of the time.
Frankly, Clockwork might be ok for flashing a rom, but I would never use it to flash radios or pri. As far as I am concerned it just doesn't work reliably enough to use it for anything important. So for me clockwork is pretty much useless. The only reason I keep it on my phone is that I paid five bucks for it, and it is the most convenient way to fix permissions.
For the record, I have had my 002 Evo since launch day. Rooted it using the original toast method. The first app I bought was Clockwork, which I used exclusively for about a month. After the second time a flash through clockwork went bad, I switched to Amon_Ra and have never had a bad flash since. Additionally, a nand backup through Amon_Ra backs up your RSA keys, Clockwork does not.
Ive always like Amon Ra better, only time I used Clockwork was to flash Amon Ra lol

If you want to switch to RA an easy way is to download Rom Manager from the market. There is an option in the app to flash to RA. After that, you can just uninstall Rom Manager since it only works with CW.
ok so i love myns rom twopionttwo and i just saw there was an update for rls5.
im a little confused on how to update the radio, wiimax and pri. i have read people messing up there phones from updating this or maybe i read wrong. if someone could please just give me a step by step or explain the safest route to go about this without brinking my phone.
thanks in advance
If you haven't already, flash amon RA recovery v2.2.1. It is safest method I know. Then download calkulins combo radio update. In recovery make a nandroid. Always make a nandroid. Then flash the combo. Restart. Viola. Hope that helps. BTW myn's rom is simply incredible.

Can someone tell me where to look up the WiMax version......it's the only thing I don't know how/where to look up.
Thanks
I had a semi-similar problem and now RLS 5 will install. I tried updating like you said though and it appears to have worked so far.
First underlying issue; can't update the radio and PRI in my EVO4G. I am using the latest fresh Rom, 3.5
First tried using clockwork, the updates think they install but never show up in the software info when I check. Then I tried using the FreshUpdater, which also fails and advises me to use AmonRA.
Second issue, I can't flash the AmonRA image. First fails with the terminal emulator, tells me there is not enough space on the device (4 gb isn't enough? Yeah right). Second fail with the ROM Manager... it thinks it succeeds but when I reboot into recovery, I still have the old clockwork... yet the Rom manager continues to report AmonRA is my current recovery agent...
To eliminate solutions, I have:
Root access
Latest Rom manager, terminal emulator, AmonRA
Plenty if space available
Directories and terminal commands are all correct
Was never plugged into the PC during flash attempts
Please help me out guys lol

Rename it PC36IMG.ZIP and place it on the root of your sdcard. Then boot into hboot and answer yes when prompted. Let it do its thing and select recovery after. That should do it.

What Rom u using? Latest fresh???
Hi..
I'm very noobie with all the rooting & roms & whatnot, but I've been reading everything I can to try and get up to speed.
One question I can't find the answer to is about the Baseband version.
my evo 4g is at 1.39 for the baseband.
I know there are newer versions out there.
I haven't installed a ROM yet, I'm still on Android 2.1
Would it be ok to update the Baseband version to the latest?
I don't plan on doing an OS ROM update until I read up on what's out there.
I have already Rooted the evo with Unrevoked.
I also do NOT have "nandroid". I have Backup/Restore. It looks like the same concept, I already did a backup and copied the image folder to my hard drive.
I'm going to be purchasing Rom Manager and Titanium Backup Pro in a few days and see what those are all about.
But would it be ok to update the Baseband radio version and still maintain the Android 2.1os?
Thank you!
1. Yes it should be okay to update your radio.
2. If you are on clockwork, its called backuo/restore. On amon_ra he calls its nandroid, so they are the same thing.
3. You don't have to buy the pro on either of them, especially rom manager. The premium just allows you to download roms straight from the app. On titanium, the pro restores all your apps at once, instead of manually.
4. See number 1.
Got a baseband/radio question myself and didn't exactly think creating another thread was necessary:
I'm currently on 2.15.00.09.01. Would I need to wipe my phone completely before flashing a newer baseband version or can I just nand and then flash the new baseband?

I was trying to flash the newest radio in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
It came up with an error about CWM no longer supporting amend scripts. I also tried to flash the newest PRL zip (60676) and that did not work either.

Sure I read that somewhat. but really. what's the difference between them?
is it possible Calkulin could put release dates by those and changelogs around them?
I know the difference between radio, wimax. one's 4G the other is 3G? at least I think haha. but just really need more information. I don't like to update not knowing what I'm updating.
What's the correct why to flash them? for example, if I downloaded "EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_NV_2.15_00 3 - Includes latest Radio, WiMAX, PRI & NV", could I just goto "Rom Manager v4.3.2.4" and click "install rom from SD card"? will that work?
btw, where do these radios come from? why doesn't my phone automatically update these? do they automatically update when new OTA's come out?
PS SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS. I DO THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING ALL OF THEM. THANKS SUPER!

Basically just updated 3G radios; you could get better signal, and the date is at the end... 05.02 [may 2]. And you'd flash that file by backing up your rom in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, then flash it. And they files do come from OTAs, and extracted so people can flash as they want.
so I just tried going into rom manager and install rom from sd card.... and attempted to install the EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_NV_2.15_0 0 3, and nothing at all updated.
He can't post changelogs he doesn't have. Basically, we don't know, because they're not open source and HTC doesn't generally tell us what's changed. But we generally assume newer radios will improve something. That's generally the theory with anything newer, right? Of course, it doesn't always work out that way, which is why the older versions are still posted.
