THIS PROBLEM HAS NOW BEEN FIXED, GO TO POST #19 FOR STEPS I TOOK TO FIX THE PROBLEM - thanks alot to the help below.
I recently installed or flashed (whatever the term is), a rom/theme thing to my phone. Now it hasn't worked out how I liked, and I want to go back to stock, but when I restart the phone and go to wipe date/factory reset, it just restores to the ROM's startup..
How can I go back to the stock 2.1 installation on my phone, so I can try the official update to Froyo, and not these ROMs.
However, is there a benefit to using any of the ROMs that have been posted on this site? Aside from the themes of course..
Thanks
Denno
aside from the themes, the cook normally remove bloatware from samsung and all that. to speed things up and free some space. with custom kernels, themes (like you said) and all that good stuff.
to go back to a stock rom, you simply flash your stock rom.
if your stock rom's a dxjg4, you flash dxjg4 and so on.
Thanks Adevem.
How do I go about getting my stock rom? I have no idea what my stock rom actually was though :S. I've heard lots of talk of flashing so many different roms and to be honest, it's quite overwhelming to try and work it out..
I am also keen on getting back my Optus app that was on the phone, which told me how much of my cap I have used etc.. Will this be possible? Without contacting Optus themselves, as I'm not sure if what I did with the phone is allowed within the contract.. The Optus app isn't in the Market either..
I did backup all of my apps and stuff using Titanium Backup before I installed the ROM, but I can't Restore the Optus ones :S. I can restore other ones though... It could be because they're not made to run on Android 2.2 yet, but if not, then I don't know..
once you've flashed your phone you've voided your contract ;p sorry to say.
since you're Optus... you're gonna have to ask around what was the stock rom for Optus, cause i have no idea.
once you've found out, head over to http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm, download your rom and flash back to stock. the optus applications should be installed properly back on the rom. if it doesn't, send me a pm and i might have a work around with a detailed guide.
Thanks heaps!! I know 3 other people who have the same phone with Optus (I talked it up quite a bit when I got it lol)
How do I get them to check the ROM though? Do I go to Settings > About Phone?
And what do I look for in there? I see Firmware Version, Baseband Version, Kernel Version, Build Number.
Which is the one I want from them?
Thanks heaps.
I'm not sure if the following links below will help, you could try it, and make sure you can get into download/recovery mode with the buttons before doing anything as warned in the link too.
Firmware: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1537182
Optus my account app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742310 (8th post for download link)

Amazing guys, thanks so much

Cool, post back again when you get everything worked nicely, someone else like you with this problem might ask in the near future Enjoy!
Ok so I've got the digits from my mate, but I can only find the PDA one on samefirmware. I can't find the PHONE or CSC one.
Here are my numbers:
PDA: I9000DTJG4
PHONE: I9000DTJG3
CSC: I9000OPSJG1
Is it just the PDA that I need to get? Or do I need the other two aswell?
Thanks..

you mean the site only provide the pda file? just flash it anyway, put the tar file as pda. some firmwares are packed all in one.
do report back if it matches!
Ohk cool..
Well some what cool... I have no idea how to flash it lol. It says on samfirmware to follow their guide 100%, but I can't find their guide?
I feel like such a douche.. I'm studying software engineering and I can't work this out, but I've never seen this stuff before... :S
Sorry for the newb questions..
Wait... this might be a stupid question, but if you don't know how to flash a ROM, how did you get the new ROM on your phone in the first place?
Well I followed the directions in the Darksys forum post. All that involved was putting a file on the root of my internal card, and then restarting the phone into the recovery mode.. That wasn't so hard..
Is it the exact same thing? I keep hearing so many different things, like using Odin, or playing with Kies and the registry..
I'm just confused as to what the heck I'm supposed to do.
Could someone please just point me toward a place that will guide me through the flashing?
I don't wanna stuff my phone up anymore than it already is..
You need to use Odin. If you look at the bottom of the samfirmware page (very bottom) you'll see PDF guides in a couple languages.
It's pretty easy, put phone in download mode (volume down + center button + power), plug in, open Odin, click PDA and select your .tar file. If you want to repartition, select the PIT indicated on samfirmware and check repartition. And click Start.
Phone will then flash the ROM and reboot, pretty simple =P

http://nfye.com/toolkit/Doc-Froyo.pdf
there are some instructions here.. they are not exactly your firmware that you want to flash but it will give you an idea..
on samfirmware where you downloaded the rom it should say if it need a 512 or a 803 pit file
Check that before you do anything ;-)
Argh, they're so obvious down there aren't they lol. I was looking in the menu at the top for a 'tutorial' option or something similar.
Thanks for the quick tip though, I shall hopefully be able to run with it now .
I'll try and document the whole thing and then show everyone what I've done (providing it works for me, otherwise Ima be very p'd off lol)
Yeeeeeeah!! soo happy. Thanks guys, this worked perfectly! I've got the MyAccount for Optus app back in that ROM too!
It was so easy wasn't it! wow lol.
Anyways, I didn't really document it, as there isn't anything I did any different to the instructions here, but to reiterate, this is what I did:
My phone was already rooted, so I used a program - Android Commander - on my PC, to copy EVERYTHING from my phone to my computer (back-up). This can only be done if your phone is rooted though.
Then I downloaded the following firmware from samfirmware: NB. I culd only find the PDA, but as it turns out, this was all I needed (in my case, with this firmware)
I have a Galaxy S I9000 with Optus in Australia, so my digits were:
PDA: I9000DTJG4
PHONE: I9000DTJG3
CSC: I9000OPSJG1
Next I downloaded Odin from samfirmware.com, and also downloaded the tutorial from the very bottom of the Firmwares page
I then had everything downloaded, so I opened the tutorial and followed that exactly
You need to also make sure you backup your contacts, as they will all be lost. I was lucky that I did the copy of the whole contents of my phone, as I hadn't properly synced my contacts with my google account, but I have remedied this now .
I'm now back with my stock Eclair firmware, complete with Optus MyAccount app, and I couldn't be happier .
Now to find a proper upgrade to Froyo .
Thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated.
Denno
there's actually a video on youtube on how to flash. damn it, I should have linked it to you. helped me on the first time I got an android.
anyway, glad you got it all figured out!

This thread contains the stock ROGERS firmware that comes with the GT-P1000R.
Andrew_Low has provided a copy of his stock FROYO backup, which I tested on my tab and confirm that it is working. The kernel is rooted, other than that it is a clean ROGERS rom. For further details on this refer to post 2.
He was also able to capture the GINGERBREAD update (which I have not tested as of yet, any testers please post your results).
This is the stock update available from KIES. For further details on this refer to post 2.
Many thanks to him for this, if it helps you, hit his thank you button. If you find this thread helpful as well, hit my thank you button.
Instructions on flashing are not provided. If you need these files it means you know how to flash your device, have flashed a custom ROM previously, and require this to return to a stock state.
As usual FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK, don't blame ANYONE here for ANYTHING.
PLEASE NOTE: The FROYO stock ROM is currently unavailable, will be back up soon.
Downloads can be found here
Further more, I would like to thank kpetrie77 for setting up a wiki on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the wiki is full of great links for all things Galaxy Tab. You can find it here, and if you have anything to contribute please do so as it helps everyone here at XDA.
Thanks to theREDlegion for putting this together. Happy to try to help others both on P1000 series.
The FROYO version was rooted with SuperOneClick 2.2 - if you use this utility and unroot it will remove the superuser.apk and after a reboot, adb won't connect as root. Before you do that reboot, you'll want to remove the busybox binaries /system/xbin to reach as 'near a stock state as possible'.
The GINGERBREAD version was snagged from Kies during the update process. It seems the Check Fus Donwloader doesn't know about Rogers (but it knows about Bell?!).
Real life gets in the way for hacking, but I'm motivated to make the Tab (mine included) as useful as possible beyond stock.
Thank you. This will come in handy.

Sorry to respond almost a month later but I have not been checking my PM's regularly for the past little bit with so many other things on the go. It is better to post these kinds of questions in the thread itself, as this would help other members with similar questions. That is why I created the thread, and this is a good question to ask and answer in the thread. It is a REALLY GOOD QUESTION, that I'm sure others would be interested in and therefore I will post it in the thread. If you would like me to remove your username please contact me.
The Samsung Gingerbread release is not locked, it is signed. You CAN flash custom kernels and ROMs, DO NOT use the PATCH tool that Chainfire has provided, if that is why you ask, see that thread. That patch is an amazing tool provided by Chainfire, there is nothing wrong with the patch it just does not apply to us. If you use it, the tool will ask you to patch, DO NOT PATCH. You will screw things up with it and have to re-flash, re-stock and re-do everything just to fix it.
If you are uncertain if you should flash anything, than DON'T FLASH ANYTHING. Read, read than read some more before continuing any further.
These stock ROM's are not SamFirmware downloads, they are STOCK Rogers firmware from the device and from the update from KIES.

I haven't had the opportunity to restore a tab yet. One of these days someone will lend me one for testing and I will try test these files.
Looking at the files, these will need to be restored via heimdall correct?
Also looking for the Bell Froyo rom. Any suggestions?

Heimdall is correct.
Have not come across a stock BELL Froyo ROM (haven't even looked really). Will see what I come across and post back.
How to flash P1000R to stock Gingerbread
I wrote up how to take the Gingerbread firmware in the OP and flash it to your device.
http://lowtek.ca/roo/2012/restore-rogers-galaxy-p1000r-to-stock/
It's short and sweet. Ubuntu (Linux) as my desktop, heimdall as the flashing tool. Key is really mapping the files in the firmware to the heimdall partition names and getting through the boot sequence (flash, recovery and allow update, reboot).
Rogers CWM flashable modem UXJJ6
Following instructions found here http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...t/540640-make-my-own-cwm-flashable-modem.html I created a CWM flashable modem of the Froyo Rogers ROM.
Why? Well, this modem didn't appear to be available in this form - so here it is as an attachment.
Anyway to root Bell Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE???
I cannot find anything on google or in this forums.
Thanks!!!
yea me either ive been searching for a couple weeks now.... it sucks
Rooting i757M
Am also still looking how to root this thing. The Skyrocket HD is merely the same phone, branded on AT&T carrier and this article made it clear that the phone has been silently put to the side, in favor of the coming S3. (phonesreview.co.uk/2012/05/10/samsung-galaxy-s3-buries-att-sii-skyrocket-hd).
That is, even on samsung online personal profile page, you can even find the SGH-i757M in the list of phone version, to add in your owner's page.
If anyone of you manage to root the phone, thanks to let me know.
Correction: The SGH-i757M can be found in the BAR model section on Samsung profile page and not under Smartphone. Hmm... weird categorization. Are those bar phones not smartphones? Oh, they are mini tablets.
Here is one.
Do you have any procedure to use that files? I just don't want to brick my phone
There's no any special procedure other than flash it with Odin
There're many tutorials about it here and there like that for example.

Hey that is great news. I wonder if the CWM for the E120L is compatible then?
I wonder if this works to root the device, as I've read it worked for the Asian versions of the GS2 HD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
dsixda, I guess it won't be too hard for you to check that as you're recognized developer
You can download the stock I757M firmware with the CheckFus using advanced tab (or using cli only version) with the following data:
Model: SGH-I757M
Product code: SGH-I757ZKMBMC
HIDSWVER: I757MUGLCA/I757MOYCLCA/I757MUGLCA/I757MUGLCA
Yes, I'll try all that as soon as I get my device Always nice to have the stock Odin firmware so that I don't need to dump everything beforehand in case something goes wrong.
Thank you again
Just FYI, the stock firmware is now available at sammobile.com. Grab an account and search for SGH-I757M. The download is much faster than using CheckFus.
Dsixda! So happy your getting this Device, I also want to say thank-you for your Kitchen you created!! Amasing work. Used it all the time with my Evo 3d.
Just got the Samsung Galaxy s2 hd lte with the Bell network, Do you have any plans to incorporate this into your Kitchen??
Also is there any easy Root anyone knows of yet that doesn't involve Odin? Like superoneclick...etc

Try the Zergrush method which I linked in the previous page.
I haven't decided 100% whether to get it, as I still love my original S2. But if I get it I will incorporate it into the kitchen, once we figure out the custom recovery method.
I'm assuming any of the Tengrak GS2 HD recovery images (Odin .tar) will work, as long as you don't flash the associated Tegrak kernel for the ES120L/S/K?
You can always flash the stock firmware above in case you mess up.
Tried the Zergrush method, I had no luck. Oh well no big deal for now

Or flash the first link provided by rxulan in page 1. It's the stock ROM but the system.img has superuser injected in it.
And/or Google for the Tegrak custom recovery in Xda. Just flash one of those recovery.tar meant for the HD, but not the kernel.
ODIN ?

ODIN does not recognise .img or .ext4 files. I understand those are recovery files that CWD can restore but your device should already have been rooted. This is exactly the purpose of this thread, rooting the device first of all. This have been difficult for us to find the right .md5 files to use in ODIN. The device we're trying to root, SGH-i757M.
@ezechias
Odin doesn't recognize the files inside the rooted tar archive (the one linked on page 1), but you can flash them as a tar.md5, which you already know is a preferred format. There are guides online on how to convert it to tar.md5, you can Google it or I can post it later.
First, try to flash the TAR file as is; if it doesn't work then convert to tar.md5, then flash it.
Anyways, it's strange that nobody wants to be the lab rat to test the rooted TAR or the custom recovery that we have already discussed. We have the emergency stock ROM to fall back on if anything goes wrong. Looks like I'll have to purchase this device soon and try it out myself I already have all the files and stock firmware downloaded and ready to go
ICS for E120 K/L/S has been released.
I'm sure the same will happen with I757M pretty soon
I rooted my GS4 yesterday and had no issues at all until i tried to flash a MOD to obtain wireless hotspot, but what i didnt notice was the MOD was for a Sprint version GS4. I know know if thats exactly what made my phone brick but im pretty positive because it was during the reboot that the phone got stuck on the TMO screen and apparently remaining soft-bricked. I spent the rest of the night and all of today reading and researching how to fix it myself before coming here to ask for help, so please bare with me.
I have already attempted to flash the official stock firmware using Odin, but it displays an error everytime saying it failed and something about AUTH. Sorry if im sounding vague, i am on a back up phone to use the internet and forgot to right down the exact message.. Anywho, i tried wiping everything and redoing the process and i even tried to flash the appropiate PIT file that i found but it still displays an error and says failed because of some AUTH or SEC problem.
Ive been at this diligently for almost 12 hours. My brain is filled with all these suggestions and methods that i have tried to use to restore my phone back to factory, but none of them have worked. I can still get into recovery and all that, so im assuming that there is still good chance i could fix the problem?
Also i am starting to get myself more and more confused about whether the firmware i downloaded is the right one i need for my phone, it seemed so at first but now i see theres TONS of region codes that can determine the firmware version?
Sorry if im all over the place, but i just dont know which step to take next..
I appreciate any help that is given, and im even willing to pay (some) bucks or maybe even (btc) for someone to walk me through what i need to do or what im doing wrong.
Thanks in Advance

No i havent tried that threads strategy, although i have done the same exact steps but only difference i see is that the firmware file name is:

While the one i was trying to use earlier was:

This is where im getting very confused because i cant find a cut and dry way of knowing which firmware is the correct one..

You do have the T-Mobile SGS4, correct? Any files with I9505 in the name are for the international version, which is what you flashed (not the right file). All of ours will mention SGH-M919, M919, or jfltetmo in the file name. Pull the one in the thread I linked above and push that.
Crossing your fingers while doing so couldn't hurt...
Edit: I'd recommend using the "Download UVUAMDL Official TAR" in that thread as well, not the "stock tar (original)", since the MDL is official.

Welcome!
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
first of all i was lucky all I had to do was go back and use a root 66 image to recover using odin.
Now i know i will sound like a newb sorry please bear with me if you can.
From the start i was on 4.1.2 on SRx Mod i decided Hay i should encrypt my phone (bad idea i got stuck in a boot loop) so after searching for how to fix it i was told to use the unbrick then i wad told to use route 66 i choose route 66. I have since successfully flashed rooted 4.1.2 but i have a few questions.
First route 66 lets you choose which recovery you wish to use. now to install a recovery (my first root it came with CWM) Should i just download the app and install CWM with rom recovery or use Goo manager to install TWRP? or should i use odin to flash it? if i should flash it where should i get the correct files?
Second.
Say I would like to update to 4.3 and take advantage of roms again. What is the safest way to go about this. Depending on rls I have been able to update via recovery and a new rom and i have had to use odin. I believe (not sure) safest way to go from a major rls to another it should be done with odin. Like going from ICS to JB so should I use odin again to root to 4.3?
So to shorten my question
How do i install recovery on a freshly rooted (re rooted via route 66) Also i am currently runnning 4.12 to update to 4.3 do i need to use odin and a 4.3 image to be safe? or can i install a 4.3 rom and it will update.
In all now that my phone is working I am weary of just trying and want to do it the correct way and now i know trying to use encryption is dumb!
THANKS in ADVANCE i appreciate your help.
When it comes to Recoveries, choos if you want CWM or TWRP. Both are good. Based on that get either Rom Manager app for CWM or Goo Manager for TWRP. Let the app install the recovery for you.
If you want 4.3, then look for Stock Mod Rom in Android Development section. Flash that rom via CWM/TWRP. Make sure to follow the instructions in the Rom's thread. Particularly the part where it wants you to flash ATT insecure kernel. The Rom is Rooted. Do not flash 4.3 via Odin.
Thanks for the refresher
I have been away for a little while and i wanted to make sure. SO to get it straight
Right now I just got back from boot loop with route 66 via odin.
To go on i simply get CWM or TWRP with the respective program (rom manager or goo manager)
Then get the 4.3 rom from the rout66 thread and update to 4.3 via recovery.
If not which rom do i use.
Edit:
Ok now i think i understand your post you directed me to use a specific rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501303
So from base 4.1.2 i can update to any 4.3 rom i choose? I just want to make sure as most major releases have some issues at the beginning maybe everything is sorted and their is no problems,
One thing i want to ask is can i choose another rom as sometimes i like to switch to and from touchwiz
So i guess my question now is once i install a recovery program of my choice (i always used CWM so ill probably stick with that)
Can I install any rom no problem? as far as changing versions only go up to 4.3 dont go back down with a recovery flash?
SO AFAIK right now that everything is all good and i wont mess my phone up again when loading a rom.
Is their anything i SHOULD NOT do, Beyond common sense i know not to flash a rom for another phone ETC
I appreciate your help I haven't been following the development for a couple months So i am Rusty also its been a while since i had to start from scratch with odin and at that time we did not have the GREAT list of Official Images so I got a rooted rom that had CWM already installed. I want to get to how i was before when i was enjoying the work of the devs and loving it. being in stock reminds me of how much work the devs do YOU GUYS ARE GREAT (if any even read this thread)

Thank you to be safe i will use the ROM you suggested although this is the only thing that worries me as i never have or really want to flash modems
YOU MUST FLASH THE T999UVUEMJ4 MODEM OR T999UVUEMJC MODEM FOR T-MOBILE GALAXY S III IN ORDER FOR DATA TO WORK; OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT HAVE DATA

I hope this is the ROM you are talking about and if so what do i do about the modem issue as I am coming from 4.1.2 IDK if i have the correct modem installed. All i have right now is Route 66 rooted 4.1.2 and CWM recovery I also created a Nandroid as soon as i got recovery so i can ave a pretty clean android to go back to if anything happens.
I am sorry i may be annoyed if i were you possibly so i hope you are hanging in there with me i really appreciate it once i do this ill be back in the game and wont need any more help. I just need to get this part sorted, THANK YOU
So other than the modem thing I think i got it, i just hope i dont have to mess with the modem IDK if I'm ready to try something that could hard brick my phone after just recovering it
Flashing the modem won't brick it. It's the exact same procedure as flashing the kernel, and the risk level is pretty much the same. As long as your device is the T999, you don't have anything to worry about. Just check the md5 on the download to make sure its not a corrupted/bad download. Even if you flash the T999L/T999V/I535 modem, it shouldn't brick. It just wouldn't get signal till you flash the correct one again. Many, many people have flashed the modems with no problems at all.

I really didnt think you would answer my post!
Anyway so even though the warning says i can brick it with a modem change really all that will happen is that i will just not get Data until i install the correct one got it.
And unless anyone posts otherwise The first 4.3 rom i should install is Stock Mod Rom by @saranhai and also flash the modem T999UVUEMJC via recovery?
I tried the modem map but i had no success with getting to to work, first it said the link was not supported and i needed to revert to GMaps Classic so i did but i got the same results. Random places all over the world (some in the sea) some said city and modem some were simply city's so i think its out of date so i suppose that the worst that can happen is that i get no data i suppose i can try the other modem listed on the roms page?
If someone knows (as their are two maybe its east west cost or something of the like i live in southern California south of la but furthest from the border of Mexico in San Diego so north San Diego county but anyone that knows the area may know of the massive military base i live south east of Camp Pendleton
(off topic but if a war comes to our shores i pray i am dead already or something divine as i live very close to a large Marine Training base and camp/base in General and right next to it (on the coast) is a dual Nuclear Reactor Power plant and one reactor has been malfunctioning and AFAIK its just being maintained to keep anything catastrophic from happening (which i believe IDK for sure was the reason why it is still running but not producing power)

Many people warn about that because on many devices it is true. just like a kernel or recovery though, if you flash the wrong thing to its partition, it can brick. I.e. If you flash a recovery to the modems partition.
A lot of times people bring habits from their old devices. In our case, while it is possible, it's highly unlikely you'd brick flashing the modem. We know it's not going to flash the wrong item/partition. Several people have tried flashing the I535, T999L, T999N modems and all that happened was they got no working signal. Flashed back to the correct modem and all was good again.
And unless anyone posts otherwise The first 4.3 rom i should install is Stock Mod Rom by @saranhai and also flash the modem T999UVUEMJC via recovery?

This would be my recommendation, yes. Just follow instructions in the OP.

so yeah AFAIK the post sys all i need is the modem but do i need the kernal too as it may not be listed as it is know its needed at one point when updating versions?
THANKS AND SORRY this is probably the last thing i need as i was just about to flash but just got worried
If wifi doesnt turn on, then try the kernel. If everything boots and runs as you like, then its up to you.

Hey guys, I am new to this forum here but before anyone flames me, I did read the faqs and tried to uninstall from there but it did not work out. Apparently I dont think you can get rid of CM11 since you cant install any stock firmware older than it? Before I installed CM11, I was on jellybean. I had tried to find the latest kitkat update for the s3 (att) and there is no file of it found online (tried sammobile). When I tried flashing an older firmware with ODIN, it just fails at "NAND!". Any help would be appreciated. I am COMPELETELY new at this so specific directions would be appreciated!
I really do love cyanogenmod but there are simply too many glitches and not enough guidance on how to fix em. I am, however, currently using it on my HP touchpad, if anyone remembers what it is . Maybe ill go back to using it in the future.
thanks!
Your rom (cm) has nothing to do with what firmware you can or cannot flash. Once you have updated to 4.3 firmware or newer, you can only flash the same or newer firmware in odin from now on. (Regardless of firmware you can still flash older roms btw)
Using terminal emulator, enter this to find your current firmware build:
getprop ro.bootloader
I suspect you are on a 4.3 build. So odin flash that same firmware. You can find it in these forums. After that you can get the ota to update fully to kk.
There are other methods of updating. Just check the General section. (enewman17 has a few threads that will help)
Note: anytime you go between touchwiz and non touchwiz roms, you will have to factory reset or it'll hang at boot.

I am on "I747UCUEMJB"
and i am not sure what build i am on but according to my "build number"this is what it says: "cm_d2att-userbug 4.4.2 KOT49H"
The main issue is, I cannot find 4.3 update anywhere on the internet
The MJB is your current firmware/bootloader build/version.
The build number displayed in settings only represents the rom, which is often different, and doesnt really matter to much.

i have no idea what MJB means (i google'd it) and i just found out what my bootloader version is via download mode (its at the very bottom) and i have version 2.0?
ok downloading the giant file now. will report details. just follow instructions in the first link?
[sorry, like i said, im a noob so i really apologize for the lack of terms here]
MJB is just short for I747UCUEMJB. Sorry if I confused you. And the S/W revision being 2.0 is what Odin uses to know what firmware it is allowed to flash. In this case 2.0 tells odin it can flash the MJB firmware, or anything newer.
And yes, follow the instructions he posted and you should be fine.
Oh, and if you did not run the getprop command I posted before, please do so before flashing....just to be on the safe side. If it returns I747UCUEMJB, you are good to go. If it returns anything else, let me know before flashing.

Cool! Got it. I think that was my main problem. I could only find 4.0 (or 4.1) and have been trying to use that on ODIN. Perhaps that was the main issue....
Oh already ran it and got "I747UCUEMJB", sorry if didnt say it properly.
Really appreciate the help! Ive at this for days and no solutions. Sometimes the hacking/custom firmware isnt for everybody
Ill update what happens. Download is taking forever.
EDIT: BTW, for the first link, which poster am I gonna have to follow? im assuming "garbage guy"?
I though you did run the command already, but just wanted to be certain is all. For some reason AT&T stopped releasing their firmware, which has been causing all kinds of problems for people.
Anyway, it sounds like you are good to go! Good luck!
Oh, and if the firmware you're downloading is a .zip or .7z file, make sure you extract it first. Odin only flashes .tar and .tar.md5 files.

Thank you so much! It finally worked! I got the reset notification and I am now back on JB
Thank you! should I take any more steps to ensure I made a clean installation or am I good after flashing it?

Awesome!
really glad to hear that! The only thing I can think of thst you might want to do next is backing up your nv data. The following is a copy/past from a post I made a few min ago... root is required to fo this btw, just so you know.
(Since you are looking to update though, I recommend waiting till you have updated before rooting and running this backup)
It's a super simple procedure and will create an on device backup of your nv data. The backup will be stored on a couple of partitions we never touch, not even with firmware flashes. This essentially makes it a permanent backup. The cool thing about it is every time you reboot, the system checks for any corruption, and if detected, it will automatically restore from this backup. So if it were to ever happen, you probably wouldn't ever even notice it!
Install the Terminal Emulator from the play store. Open and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
Thats it! Device will reboot and create your backup. This should prevent you from ever suffering from a lost IMEI!

That has been released, but OTA's are generally rolled out in stages over several weeks. Usually done by region. So it msy not have started in your area just yet.
Two alternatives you can try though, install kies on your computer and update through that. Or there are a couple if threads in the General section that provide the ota for download.
Enewman17 has a few threads helping folks to update so I recommend checking them out as well.
Ive heard that some people have gone to best buy and they were able to initiate the update there. I dont know much more about this though.

Thank you! I will look into this. I just figured for some reason...I would have some data left from cyanogenmod, if that makes sense. In other words, i want my phone to be as fresh as possible. I only ask this because when I had CM, i accidentally made a backup of it through rom manager (or clockwork) and I am not sure if its in my partition somewhere.

Factory resetting with stock recovery installed wipes all data except the external sdcard. I am so sorry I should've mentioned this before. I was thinking you had already done one at some point and didn't have anything left to worry about. Still, I should have asked and I do apologize for that. Hopefully if it was really important it was saved to the external sdcard....

Ok, I wasn't sure about that. I personally never need or use kies so I didn't know if it was tied to the staged rollouts. It would appear that it is though.
Give me a few min and ill post links to the threads where you can download the ota or update via a different method.

[Download] AT&T Kitkat OTA file - thread by bkong
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788012
I suggest trying the third one by bkong first. He posted a pure OTA file you can try to update with.
The first option is a recovery flashable firmware, but does not include the /system (ROM) portion. To fully update using this you'll flash the firmware per his instructions and then go to his development thread for the stock rom. It is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788357
The second option is the OTA file, but it has been slightly modified to skip certain file checks. If the original OTA doesnt work, theres a good chance this will. (Since you are full stock now either one should flash without issue).
Hope those help! I recommend doing a bit of reading about each one (at least the OP and last few pages) and start with whichever you are most comfortable with.
Or, you could always use that most valuable tool, patience, and wait for the OTA to roll out for your area.
Good luck!

No no! Its fine, I wasnt planning using it or anything, I just wanted to get rid of it since I have no use for it, no need to apologize. , I was fully aware that I would lose all files, other than SD ext drive. I just wanted to make sure that all files are in the right place and none of the unnecessary files are taking up space (e.g. files from cyanogenmod)
As for the update, I talked to a samsung representative and they said one can go to Best Buy and get it updated there through a technician, so Ill try that later since I am close to it ATM. If it back fires, Ill try your suggestions.
I really do appreciate for the help , I have been completely lost for days but it turns out I was just using the wrong firmware. Thanks for pointing it out. Good karma is coming your way . Hopefully one day, I will be here again and trying out a new custom firmware.
Glad I could help!
If I remember right, someone who mentioned the best buy thing had said at the time that the first store they went to did not have the update yet. But I think they found another in their area did. So if they say its up to date and cant help, you might find another store close by can. (If there is one of course!)
Just fyi so you're not too surprised if that happens.
