I finally gave in and rooted my phone after researching it thoroughly. I used unrevoked to root and have flashed fresh 3.4.0.1 and netarchy 4.1.9.1 and am using set cpu, too. but my battery drain is just as bad before I rooted.
before the last OTA and before root, i could get a good 14 hours with moderate use and time without signal was lower, but now it seems my time without signal is rather high(i do get lousy coverage in my house, but outside its great), and i am sure that may be the main culprit of my battery drain. I am usually lucky to get 8 hours now.
My question is there an app that works reliably to prevent such a heavy drain because of the searching for a signal, without going straight to airplane mode. or is there something i may have missed rooting it and should check some settings? I was hoping to get it back up to 14-16 hours of battery life with rooting it.
I'm curious too and switching to wifi when wifi works helped my battery alot. But still my battery is like 12hrs then dead.

I havent seen an app that does this. I am curious though because unless you are in your home a significantly more amount now then you were pre root you still shouldnt see that big of a drop in battery time from signal.
how long ago since you last wiped data on the phone (probably last time you flashed)?
did you recalibrate your battery after flashing?
did you reset up all your settings to optimize battery?
are you using the HAVS version of Netarchy's kernel?
i know lots of questions but these would greatly help on what you have already tried and what you can still try.
I am also running Fresh 3.4.0.1 at the moment testing it out and i have gotten the best battery life out of it using the No HAVS netarchy kernel and the collins battery tweak set up WITH OUT setCPU. I also use the paid version of juice defender (ultimate juice) and have that set up to drop data connection while the screen is off. I am normally in the heavy user area but lately have been busy so have slipped down to the moderate level and i can still easily get all day (about 14 hours).
If you are a true heavy user i would expect 8-12 hours of battery life, mid user 12-16 and as a very light user your milage may very greatly. I am assuming since you previously fell into the 14-16 hours your a moderate user. if thats the case you should def be able to get back to that.
I did not recalibrate the battery. Is that done through the recovery menu? And should the battery be fully charged?
I am still learning about roofing and what I can do and should be doing.

I found this app on app brain, green power premium, (can't link since i am a new user on xda) and tried it out last nigt on a full charge before i left for work, about 13 hours later i just got the warning to plug in my phone.
basically it manages your wireless networks within your parameters you can set instead of manually turning off networks, etc...and that was one of my main issues of battery drain.
Calibrating your battery should help out.

11 hours of moderate to light use (about 3.5 hrs of awake time) and the battery has 64% left.
so I flashed from fresh 3.4.0.1 to myn's warm TwopointTwo (RLS3)
and went from netarchy 4.1.9.1 cfs havs kernal to Kings #11 with havs and cfs.
I am using setcpu (all on demand profiles): screen off 384 max/245 min, battery <50% 614/245, temp >40.8C 614/128, and Charging/Full with 998/384
and the other app I am using is called Green Power (i am using the paid premium version) my settings on it are Managing Mobile Network Only. Keep wireless on if power is on, Keep wireless on if screen is on, Check traffic before shutting wireless off and start up at boot, Durations ON 1 min - OFF 10 min.
I am rather happy with this setup so far, and really digging myn's rom. i loved FRESH, but mostly because i spent months just using stock sense and got so use to it, switching to FRESH when I rooted felt natural.

Hey please don't tear my head off, Ive been looking through all the threads that I can, but haven't really found an answer.
So I got my g2 and left it stock for a couple of days and the battery did pretty good, meaning I didn't have to charge it during the day. I then rooted and flashed cm 6.1.1 stable and the battery was terrible it would drop about 1% every 5 min or worse if I was playing a game or using maps etc.
I tried switching to pershoot's cm_2632.28 012211 and it was just as bad. I then tried reverting to a back up of stock and it is still bad, I also tried RC4 and one of the nightlies, same problem. I tried wiping the battery stats with the instructions on cm's wiki, still terrible.
It is really frustrating to me and I have been looking around and it seems a lot of people are having trouble with battery life. I don't really want to buy another battery, and have tried removing anything on my phone that could use battery (widgets, apps, etc.) I also think it's odd that Cell Standby takes up the most battery.
So really what I want to know is does anyone have an idea of something for me to try? A mistake I might have made? Tip? Or am I just crazy in expecting my battery to last the day on stock?
Any help would be appreciated thanks
A lot of people who ran the cm rom seemed to have this problem I don't and I assume it only happened after cm and still occuring I think somethings wrong with cm's kernal idk but it seems like it shorts out the battery because I ran a wrong kernal on my stockrom and had terrible battery life.
Sent from George2.0 (G2)
The battery truly might be a dud... The fact that your Cell Standby consumes most of the power is probably normal because you said you stripped your phone of widgets, apps, etc.
My gf has a Wildfire and her first battery couldn't last more than a couple hours, and she's a fairly light user. She switched out the battery and now it's fine, goes for a couple days now..
I am running cm 6.1.1 oc to 1.2 I do not have this issue. Try a new battery maybe?
Which kernel are you using? And with what settings?
Kernel is toxygene #1, screen brightness auto, gps off, bluetooth off, Wifi only when I need it, "wcdma only" so I don't get any edge drop-offs, overclocked to 1.2ghz-368mhz screen on, 245mhz screen off. My battery will last 9-12 hours of normal use, that's a few calls, some txting, facebook, mp3s in the car on the drive home from work, and an hour or two of XDA. I unplug at for work at 10am, I let it die and charge from 0 every day..
Google sync every hour, weather widget sync 4 hours, facebook widget every hour. Those are all my widgets.
You should really upgrade to CM7 now. Pretty stable, and my battery life is SO MUCH BETTER. If I use my phone heavily I will lose about 30~40% during the ENTIRE DAY lol. So my battery with moderate usage will easily last 12 hours. Before I had the exact same battery life as yours.
Also, I'm using the UV kernel from pershoot.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
I'm on Virtuous v0.9.0 and I routinely get 12-15 hours a day out of my phone. That's with brightness set full, WiFi running (and usually connected), Tweetdeck, gmail, gtalk, etc all running with constant updates, etc.
If I pull it off the charger at 7a, by 7p I'm typically still around 20%, depending on how much extra use I've done (sms, voice calls, etc)
Yes, the newer version of virtuous is great on battery life and doesn't even have to be oc. I just flashed back to cm today to get everything up to date (I'm ocd like that and have to have all my ROMs current) and I too am having the cell standby issue with 70% battery after 2 hrs and light use. Just flashed the newest pershoots and letting it fully charge before I clear batt stats... will report back.
Have setcpu set to lowest with screen off and oc 1.2-346mhz

synchronization
I am using Visionary 0.9.0 and I had lousy battery life too, and have now either turned off background synchronization or at least made it very infrequent for all my apps that use it (facebook, peep/twitter, HTC Sense, HTC Hub, News, Weather, etc. etc.)
This has made a very big difference!
The biggest difference of all came from turning off synch within the HTC Sense and HTC Hub apps. These were having trouble connecting to their servers, and were constantly tying up my 3G signal causing battery drain. This change alone has almost doubled my battery life.
I recommend you check what is using wifi/3G and how much before we assign blame to kernel or ROM.
Also, I can recommend GreenPower app which turns off connectivity automatically when it's not needed, greatly extending battery life. However after a long period of using this successfuly, I have turned it off as I started having trouble "waking" my 3G connection during the day. Hopefully future updates will help with that app.
I had the same problem with my first G2 and after complaining/convincing T-Mobile it was defective, they sent me a replacement and that problem never came up again.
Alright I feel stupid but I was charging my phone with my bluetooth charger (didn't even think about it) but now I'm using the stock charger and my battery is lasting way longer. Night and day difference. I don't exactly understand why this would make such a difference in technical terms but eitherway major facepalm.
Droid incredible. Rooted, virtually every rom through rom manager causes my phone to battery to drain very fast.
After a charge itll drop to 90% in about twenty minutes. Iv heard thats a droid thing.
From that point, it steadies but still is losing juice FAST. Phone has been awake for 8hrs today with light usage and is currently at 70%. Gps off, wifi off, etc. No vibrating feedback, auto brightness.....all settings geared for battery conservation.
Im using Incrom 1.6 with a stock kernal. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated as i dont stop hearing that everyone in the world is rooted and enjoying their batterys new ability. Ohhh, btw extended battery, red htc one in case that matters.

Everybody's definition of "light usage" is different. Losing 20% in 8 hours doesn't seem that bad to me unless you litterally never turned your screen on. That said, here are some things you can try:
1. I've found that the auto brightness sucks and I'm better off just manually setting it to 25% or so. That's fine for indoor use and you can't see the screen in bright sunlight anyway regardless of the setting so why bother burning battery trying?
2. Try flashing a kernel that allows you to underclock and undervolt. Perhaps one of Ziggy's nonHAVs kernels (I have found that HAVS kernels to be unstable, but YMMV). Either use the smartass governor or setCPU to cap screen off at 384 MHz.
3. Carry a charger with you
I'd see what is using your battery in settings.
Also, you could try chad's sense (12/28 I think) incredikernel, which sets the max clock speed really low when the screen's off (defaults to smartass governer).
If you wanted to try CM7, gingerbread has a much better battery usage UI that'll give you a nice graph of battery usage vs. time for phone awake time, signal strength, wifi and some other stats.
I searched for this and found a couple results but I'd like a fresh thread with only helpful information. Exactly as the title says: What are you guys doing that has given the best battery life without sacrificing much speed? Post your method, your ROM, your Kernel, and your battery life in hours between taking it off the charger and to almost dead. Thanks. This will help everyone I hope.
I'm running synergy rls1 underclocked to 652 and down to 225 when screen is off......I've gotten 3.5 days battery with 50 to 75 texts/day and a few minutes of calls with light internet browsing and still had 22 percent remaining. The only thing that i notice lagwise is home screen redraws take a lil longer than normal. I've read the v6 supercharger script fixes this issue but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Before that i was running cm7 with tiamat 3.3.7. Battery life was awesome with that setup, could go four days but it was really annoying that i could never get my GPS to work no matter how many fixes i tried. By the way my mobile network was turned off the whole time except when doing my light internet browsing. All the animations turned off as well, with the screen set to the lowest setting i can tolerate.

I've been running Myns Warm 2.2 Rls5 with netarchys sbc build and going on 2.5 days of battery life with heavy use before I have to plug it in (extended battery btw). More or less 110-150 sms per day, listening to music at work, reading on xda, and two or three 5 min phone calls. No settings have been changed except for screen time out from 1 min to 30 sec. With light use I get about 4 days.

I've about had it with my EVO 4G. I can barely use the thing before the battery is down to 30% or lower. When I first unplug it in the morning, I'll browse reddit or XDA for all of 5-10 minutes and my battery will go down to 75% easily. I've tried tons of ROMs (running Energy w/Shooter Anthrax kernel as I heard it got amazing battery life) I've tried resetting the battery stats -- i've tried unplugging and replugging in the phone multiple times when the charge light is green, I've tried just about everything I can find on here dealing with battery issues and to no avail! Listed in my battery stats the only thing that's ever high is my Display usage but even factoring that in should I really only be getting an hour or two of mild internet usage before my battery is completely depleted? I can barely make it through a 6 hour work day (checking texts on breaks, light internet, maybe a 5 minute phone call) without having to recharge it in my car.
I'm open to ANY suggestions short of buying a new battery -- sadly it's not an option at the moment.
Do you keep 4G on? That drains a battery like nothing else if left on. Same with GPS, especially in Sense Roms for some reason.

i recommend using a aosp rom if battery life is a MUST. I would suggest you use Decks aosp rom with CoD tweaks Tiamat 3.7.7 and vipermod and underclock to 500 on smartass governor........all this is what you should do if you choose decks rom
Make sure your 4G is off, but Evo is known for its horrible battery but thats ridiculous. Try a new kernal to adjust to CPU settings. If that doesn't work, you might need a new battery. Evos are know for having their battery fried easily, mine fried and I had to get a new battery. :/
You should definitely make sure your 4g, Gps, Wifi, and blue tooth is off. If that does not work I would strongly suggest you downloading Cyanogenmod 7.1. When you aren't using the phone under clock it and do medium speed when you are using it. I last around 8-9 hours doing this. Hope it helps.
Okay I installed Decks Evo GB rom and the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel. I followed the guides but couldn't seem to do the undervolting correctly with the apps i was provided...but i'll do some testing and report back!
Can someone point me in the direction of the right app for undervolting and whatnot?

vipermod is used for undervolting http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/vipermod-voltage-control/
Also, it could just be that your battery is tired. Is it at all swollen, in the least bit or rock hard? It should feel firm, but give a little.
People tell me all the time, "my battery is not holding a charge", it's not designed to. But, how it releases the charhe, is another story. Obviously, it's also dependant on use. Remember, the phone is only rated at 5 hours talk time. I can't think of a time I've actually tried that, but when I have been caught on the phone for extended periods I've only gotten at most 2 hours of conversation out of a full battery.

my battery doesnt last too bad in my evo. granted not like the old days, but i do get about 12-15 hours on a 1700 mah battery and a powerskin charging case with a built in 1500 mah battery. This is in a poor service area.. constantly switching into and out of roaming. i keep 4g, wifi, mobile network all off and screen brightness at about 25%.. this is with moderate txt, some light game play, occasional turn on 3g to check email and browse web. im expecting better now thzt i am rooted with energy rom and anthrax kernel.
Hey, im on Telus so i dont have any other modes I can switch to to lower the drain. Ive noticed my battery drain is HORRENDOUS
Over the past 4 hours ive dropped 60%!
Now im wondering if im just running too many apps or if my stock battery may not be holding a proper charge anymore, and wanted to compare with others to see if others are running the same amount of apps and getting better battery or what
Ive got the following on:
Trillian (IM app)
K9-mail checking 2 aps
Regular Sync (Twitter, FB, Dropbox, Google(Calendar, Gmail, Contacts)
The battery usage summary seems to lie, 35% is the screen but only 13 minutes. Yet im at 40%
Android System at 20, Cell standby 13, Phone Idle 8
While heading to work, i ran DI Radio(music streaming), and lost 20% over around 35 minutes.
Im using the Tuesday rom with it's default kernel.
Is there anything I can do for better battery, because I dont have wifi in most places, and im running 3-4 bars constantly yet the phone just drains rentelessly. Even my Mugen battery was only lasting 16 hours...
It's quite possible that it's the ROM. I used to always get 8 hours on a single charge, regardless of location or ROM. I'm running Eugene's CM7 and I'm getting 13 hours on the same typical usage.
I'm running on Telus as well, with no wifi at all.
Although I am not running all of your apps, I would still consider myself a moderate to heavy user.

any syncing or usage of the network will take a drain. any usage.
you can always turn on airplane mode and let it sit a few hours and see the drain, that determines whether its network or a ROM/kernel drain.
But yes, using 4G has big battery cost
Battery Life
I will tell you what, I have wasted so many hours playing with different ROM's and what not to find the one with the best battery life. And I will tell you what, the DARKSIDE:IGITAL::WARFARE ROM's out do any other ROM out there. I dunno what it is that thederekjay is doing, but Samsung should get this guy on pay roll because his work is the best.
I'm at hour 8 today on Darkside Digital Warfare, and 70% free from 8am to 4:30pm. I have push corporate email, automatic brightness, friendcaster push, and a slew of accounts and it runs like a champ with amazing battery.
Make sure your phone is going into Deep Sleep as often as possible when screen is off. My phone seems to be extremely picky in regards to which charger it likes and more often than not (even had this happen on the stock charger) the phone refuses to sleep after being charged (even if only for a few seconds...).
Download CPUSpy from the market and after each charge, go to CPUSpy, press menu and Reset Totals (phone cannot enter Deep Sleep during charging so it's important you start fresh after a charge to get accurate sleep time). Turn the screen off for a minute or two and turn it back on. Press menu again and Refresh Totals. In my experience, if the phone is not sleeping at this point - Deep Sleep showing in Unused States - then it will not sleep all day and remain in 384Mhz for hours, killing the battery rather quickly. From then, if I plug the phone in a supported charger (even for a second) and disconnect, Deep Sleep resumes normally. Rebooting always fixes it too.
If, like me, a lot of people also have this problem with the stock charger as well, I bet many are dissatisfied with the battery performance... The phone is supposed to spend the majority of it's time in Deep Sleep. I get this issue with several different chargers and cables and on different ROMS / kernels (including stock... go figure).
Im pretty sure its the signal itself draining it. It uses sleep for at least 40% of the time its on. I use my phone a good amount, but its the fact that if it sits on 4g even with the screen of, its rapidly draining during this time. ive even reset timers and left it sitting for an hour and itll be in sleep but lose 8% over an hour just doing nothing. I still wanna be able to recieve notifications tho so turning off data isnt an option. I will test turning off data anyways to see if the drain stops.
The battery drain is all those persistent internet apps running. That is what you call heavy usage. Trillian and the FB app being the two biggest. Music streaming would be up there as well if you aren't in good signal area. Look at your battery stats and see what your signal strength is.
