Hi everyone,
I bought an HTC Desire few days ago. I rooted it and flashed a custom ROM : Leedroid 2.2e, so far everything's perfect.
But I hadn't tried GPS yet, so I did today and unfortunately I didn't succeed in making it work : I can see the GPS icon in the notification bar but the GPS won't localise me in any application : My tracks, Navigation and others...
I can only localise by mobile data connection...
I tried to reboot => nothing changed
I tried 2 others ROMs : OpenDesire and Modaco (last releases) => still nothing
(I waited 5 minutes each time)
I read some things about ZdeviceTest so I downloaded it and when I am in the GPS section I can see : speed = 0.00 and number of satellites = 0, on the NMEA part i can see something is moving like "$GPGSA,A1,,,,,,,,,*1E" coming back again and again with some other thing which I don't have the time to read
I tried to flash the lastest Radio ROM => still the same situation
That's why I'm asking to you guys if you can help me cause I don't know what else to do...Especially cause I bought it second-hand...
Is there a way to know if the GPS "hardware" is ****ed up ?
Any ideas ? :s
Thank you (and sorry for my English)

the other month when i tried leedroid 2.2b i had the same problem, i was trying to use kingmaker but couldnt get a gps fix, i tried gps test and although i had a weak signal it wouldnt connect to any satelites, i left it running in the background while i was out and about an hour later i got a fix, after that gps would get a fix straight away!! i think it mite be because we dont have a htc app like quick gps on android, it takes a while for the phone to find all the satellites
Ok thank you for answering could you tell me which app you used to fix the gps? I'll try that
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I had this same problem on stock Desire. I pulled battery out for about five minutes. After that I got fix in about 2-3 minutes. Now it is working without any problems.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Try this... go to menu, settings wireless, network, then go to mobile networks, access point names, click on your service provider( the one with the green button by the side of it), like mine is o2 postpay then go right down to the bottom & open APN type, then type in default, supl
Hello guys,
Thanks for your answers I'm gonna try this today but I'm waiting to go outdoor because in my room I think GPS will never localise me
1) I have another question, on my good old HTC Hero I saw a tip one day to change the satellites or something like that with a file like gpsconf.xx do you think I can try that too on my Desire ?
2) Are there old flashable 2.1 Desire ROMs available ? I searched the forum developpement but it seems like there is only 2.2 ROMs ?
I'm asking because I contacted my seller who told me that the GPS was working fine before (true or not ? ^^)and I know he was on 2.1 Orange France ROM but when I rooted my phone I forgot to do a backup I'm such a newbie :/
Bye
I tried all your methods but none was able to fix the problem
I went running for 30 minutes and it didn't localize me and after that 1 hour in my car and still nothing.
So I think my GPS is dead :/

I have got here a upgraded Artemis and it just does not want to work properly with GPS. All the satellites are in the north point and it never gets a valid signal. I have already tried to flash it to the black & blue ROM but it still happens. The navi software i am using is TomTom 6.032.
Anyone got an idea what to do? It never works, not even on the street.

With GPS of my SPV M650 I fought 2-3 weeks
I have more another program-but these basic = think this is enough
I have done all of that but nothing helps. I simply can't get my GPS to work. IT shows me that all the satellites are in the north position and that is about it. I have changed the firmware and i have used all the fixes recommended here including GPS reset with no success. When i connect my BT received it works fine but that is not the point of having inbuilt GPS
I really hope someone can help me to get this damn phone working. Would it work better with WM05? If so has anyone got a link to it?
Thanks again to everyone helping in here.
I haved some problem=one satelit in north!
my problem was in contacts of antena!!!
Try to connect outside antena(back side connector!) i think you have some problem like my

On 9 page you can see your contacts(problema!!!)
Try to make good connection!!!

Otherwise, i'll explain in english cause I had the same problem:
I tried with the first Kulbutor patch (in my link)
If you install it just after the flash; there is no problem.
Moreover, if you are using Orange with AGPS, it works also. after having install the Orange.cab
Be carefull you must wait this (or these) install(s) before running tomtom; otherwise, it won't work
Hoping it will help you,

GPS problem with GPS cam
Hello,
I just installed the artemis touch 4.02 WWE on my XDA I orbit. Everythings works fine, also Tomtom and visualGPS. But the GPS cam seems to be not able to start built in GPS when launching camera for GPS photo. The first time when I started the GPS cam, a pop up appeared with message "initializing GPS" or something like that, and I cancelled it by tapping cancel button. Now GPS cam is not working any more. Will this fixes solve my problem?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey guys. I know there are dozens of threads here on XDA about GPS problems. Well, I have sifted through many for weeks now, I have tried and tried tweaks, hacks, whatever and I am having no luck. I used to have my GPS working with bing, google maps, whatever. I installed TomTom and never got it to locate a GPS signal, since then I have not been able to get any GPS working that I can recall.
I am not sure if I have replaced or deleted some file during all these registry hacks and tweaks, so I am at a loss. I just want to get my GPS working. I am no noob, so please no rude remarks. I just need some help. I cannot get this thing licked for the life of me. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an Energy Leo ROM with Sense 2.5 if that helps or matters to anyone.
Please, people, somebody help me get this GPS working again. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.
EDIT: I fixed it, if ur curious check out post #7

Since you're "no noob" I assume you've already hard-reset your phone...?? And/or tried the Task 29? And then re-flashed to a stock rom?
If you've done all of those things (surely you have if you've been troubleshooting for weeks) and GPS still doesn't work then it seems like you must have a hardware problem.
Yeah, thanks

Alright, figured I would get some type of remark anyways, but it's cool. I have done a hard reset which I was trying to avoid, but I have not reflashed to a stock ROM and back again. Once again, I was trying to avoid all of that, but if there isn't any other options, it seems like that's what I am going to have to do. It's just since I flashed to the energy ROM, my GPS did work, it just stopped working suddenly. Thought there could be some connection(s) settings that got changed or possibly a file lost or changed.
I am willing to reflash the phone, by all means, but I thought I would check with my fellow hacking badasses to see if anyone could come up with an actual idea instead of telling me to change the phone BACK to it's original out of the box state, but if not whatever, guess I might have to bite the bullet.
If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know. I'm gonna hold tight on reflashing the phone for a few days to see if anyone has any other ideas.
what version of TomTom are you using?
i found with TT7 it will not show how many sats you have. and its a bit of a faf getting it to work, but i do have it working like this
in the gps settings of the phone set theprograme port to com 4and the hardware port to com5 and the baud to 4800
in TT and go to gps settings under preferences
change the GPS device to other GPS set the com to com 5 or 4 (try both)
go outside in a field etc, and wait 10 mins, you will see the latitude etc change, wal around and it will keep changing, but there will be no blue bars to tell you your signal strenght etc

It's easier to help you if you say what you've tried -- a little more detail than you're giving. Like, after you hard-reset did you reflash the Enrgy rom and try the GPS before adding Tom-Tom? If you did a hard reset, returning the phone to the basic Energy rom (without Tom-Tom) and GPS still doesn't work then Tom-Tom isn't the problem. But who knows... good luck.

In my version of TomTom (ttn7.916.9189_qvga_blue) I find my satellites to be working no problem as per the display of locks on the navigation screen. No tinkering required.
As for the GPS issues, I would guess try another radio version. When you flash a stock ROM back on, it usually replaces the radio. In Southern California I find the .77 RADIO to be excellent with GPS.
Just update Quick GPS, try the .77 radio, stand out on the street for like 2 minutes so it can get a quick lock. With .77 GPS works in my house where it never did before.
I too had a helluva time getting this GPS working tits on the Touch Pro 2 when I first got it, now it's awesome!!
Thanks I will try

I have reflashed my ROM more than once since all of this began in order to fix this problem with no avail, but I cannot say that the radio every changed since I was reflashing with an Energy ROM each time, so I will try what your saying about flashing the radio with some different ones. I am not sure what my stock radio was, so I will just have to experiment, but I will get back to you after I give this a try and let you know what happened if anything.
Got it Working Now
So I tried flashing a new radio. I also found another setting, though in the settings panel that I believe fixed this. It is as follows:
Settings\Connections\Advanced Network
When you're in this area, check the GPRS tab at the bottom. It has two options to set your GPRS to, one is PAP the other is CHAP. Mine was set to CHAP, so I changed it to PAP and VOILA!! Went outside, used Quick GPS, used the HTC GPS Tool, and it found satellites. Then I opened up google maps, bing, TomTom, and they all worked perfectly. So, if anyone else is having a similar problem, then give this a whirl. Make sure you check out different radios as well. I have now and my signal is strong inside and outside with my phone calls, internet, and GPS.
Thanks everyone for the help

Must be your local servers. I was using CHAP without GPS problems. The only difference is that CHAP uses secure authentication with the servers. I'm in LA.
BTW, are you using the "Quick GPS" application to download satellite positions? It really speeds up signal acquisition.
Hello together,
i have my desire now since nearly two month. Im relly happy with the phone. But one problem:
GPS is not working, i don't get a GPS fix.
It didn't work as I had the phone completely new neither now after i rooted it. I already tried a couple of different radios but my phone doesn't find any satelites.
Does anybody else has the problem? Is this just a software bug or is the hardware damaged?
If I have to send it back to HTC, do you know how long does it take till i get my phone back? Im based in germany.
Thank you very much for your help!
best regards
Tom
I only have my desire 2 days now, it has a orange uk branded phone, so I unbranded it to a stock htc rom, and I have the same problem as you, it takes ages to lock a gps signal.
Today it took 30minutes to lock the gps signal on my ndrive.
I don't have a problem with my GPS on my Orange debranded Desire, what ROM are you debranding with?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I use this one because of the portuguese language:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe
Do you use any program to help catch the gps signal?
Regards
I lost mine with a radio update, had to use 32.30.00.28U_405.00.11 to get GPS working again. Which radio do you have?
NDrive has problems locking with the Desire's GPS. Launch NDrive, press home button, enable the GPS and goto NDrive again. That works for me most of the times.
Or use Google Maps to get a fix and then launch NDrive.

Thanks, i will try that, as soon as I can I will report if it works.
Thanks again
I tried it with these radios:
32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2
32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
And with none of them I got GPS fix.
I tried it also with differnt applications:
Google Maps
Navigon
GPS Status
GPS Test
But without success, no GPS fix at all
Oh by the way, i tried it also with the Stock ROM and with OpenDesire 1.4 and OpenDesire 1.5
€: I use now OpenDesire 2.1 with the newest Radio 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08
I still don't have any chance to find a satelite. Has anyone an idea to fix the problem?
i don't know if it's allowed on this board, i just wanted to push my message to the first page, after it was now on page 15. Perhaps anyone has an idea about fixing the problem.
Thank you!
All that worked for me was trying the radio I had originally (before I started playing around). You tried any of the older ones?
Hi,
I also now have a problem with GPS fix. First I have overheating & reboot problem, then MB were replaced & now I can't get fix (no satellites at view at all). I hope that this is software related (although I do not use GPS much). So probably somebody knew how to perform cold reboot of GPS sensor (I perform this with previous Touch Diamond to bring GPS back to life)?
Hi
Just found this post in google code android, this is the issue I have had for 12 weeks, tried different roms 2.1/2.2 and radio's 5.x 04 08 20 and 4.05 and 6 had anyone managed to get to the bottom of it ?
Apparently if it drops the signal it does not search unless you go into aeroplane mode or pull the battery, then can work for 5 minutes or 10 hours before happening again, driving me mad.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
I'm about to give up on android however I really love the phone HTC Desire with stock modaco froyo rom but on a basic level I need to make calls.
Thanks
Derek
Return it to your dealer and get a replacement.
It sounds like its handset specific. I haven't noticed it on mine, and I move in and out of bad reception all the time.
Let me guess.. is Orange your provider?
I'm on 02 don't think it's hardware as on google groups it happens to multiple handsets.
have you tried to clean a contacts of you sim card, on the bottom of it?
btw, how old is it? I've experienced same problem on Diamond due to it was quite old(7 years of using). I've asked my provider to change it for a new one, and that helped me to solve this issue.
Had the same problem, then i downloaded the app "2G-3G OnOff" and set the phone only to go on the 2g network and never had a problem since...
This is a know issue, although I think it may be specific to certain operators. I'm on Meteor Ireland and this issue has been discussed at length on their forums (http://forums.meteor.ie/index.php?showtopic=359) since the launch of the Hero v1.5.
Meteor were apparently working in conjunction with HTC on a solution but still nothing. I had the problem on vanilla 2.2 on my desire but as yet I don't think it's happened me on MCR r7, touch wood.
phone and sim are only 12 weeks old, I thought it might be a radio problem so I'm down to 5.x.04 and I'll let you know over the next couple of days
Also going to try another fix posted in xda:-

hi,try running google maps with the GPS turned on for some minutes, say about 20mins and then check if the GPS locked.I had the same problem when I updated my unrooted, unbranded and unlocked Desire on Monday. It took almost 20mins for the GPS to lock but after that, the GPS locked everytime i try to use Google Maps.I hope this idea solves your GPS issue.
I have the exact same problem. no gps signal at all. The radio is the same. Have you solved the problem?
Just be patient, very patient. The first GPS fix can take very long sometimes, even on dedicated units not just phones, has to do with clock synchronization and satellite identification. So just keep your phone out in the open with Maps startedand wait. Wait. Wait.
Once you get a fix the GPS will work much much faster.

No, with gps status you could not see any satellite after 1 hour of beeing in open sky.
Something was wrong software side.
Now with a rooted phone, same application, I get 10 satellites, and first fix after 10 minutes
You rooted the stock FroYo ROM? What HBOOT were you on?

It worked for me! I went to the roof as today is a bright day and used Tricorder app's Geo tab. Touched on it to show satellite.
It kept trying to connect to satellite. The tricorder app shows some satellites as green. Presumably as they are chosen to calculate location. It didn't finally lock-on till it was showing 12 satellites and 4 of them were green. I noticed that I had to remove the jelly cover and :
1. Stand still, she how many satellites it shows signals. In a few seconds it will stop detecting new ones.
2. It it hasn't locked on then move around a bit and change some orientation then step 2 again
3. Repeat above till it latches to atleast 4 green or 12 total signals (dont know which one works the 12 signals or 4 green)
and after that it easily updates even indoors for me.
i have the same problem and the same vers of froyo...etc . i tried with just gps ,motonav, gps test....and no change. after 20-30 min in open sky no satellite was found how can i fix this problem ? rooting is the only way ?
p.s. pascanu : daca te rog imi dai si mie id-ul tau de mess sa vorbim poate ma ajuti sa rezolv problema asta enervanta cu gps-ul ? ms
Im sending my phone to HTC
maybe changing the radio will help ?
I have the same issue, have tried a few different radios but still no satellites to be found, tried for 20 minutes with no luck.
Downgrading the radio now to test again.
Still nothing. Has anyone tried reverting to 2.1 to see if the problem still exists? Or is it a hardware failure?
try this... go to menu, settings wireless, network, then go to mobile networks, access point names, click on your service provider( the one with the green button by the side of it), like mine is o2 postpay then go right down to the bottom & open APN type, then type in default, supl

Thanks. I have exhausted everything now and it still hasn't found a single sat. Back to HTC with another hardware failure...
Has anyone else with GPS problems solved them?
I got mine back fully functional after 2 weeks with HTC.
All Free of Charge.
Great service.
Well, do ya know what they did to fix it? Would be nice for the rest of us to know I'm having issues on my Desire with the newest Froyo OTA update and radio 2.29.405.8...

Solved it just how the person said above, after the update that APN doesn't download the Satellite lists by default, you have to add that line to get quick GPS locks.
I've tried adding supl but I still can't get a fix. I'm on tmobile uk, stock rom if that's of use to anyone.
