i'm kind of new to all this, only had my phone for about 2 months and this is really my first adventure out of stock root and unrevoked3.21. so i'm hoping you will be a little gentle with me.
I'm looking to flash myn's twopointtwo and improve my battery life with it. I was thinking of using netarchy's 4.03 kernel and myn's battery tweak with it, but i figured i would come here first and see what input i could get.
from what i understand, HAVS will conflict with the battery tweak or setcpu so i have chosen netarchy's 4.03(non-HAVS) for my kernel. is HAVS better than these? what about setcpu? basically, what will give me the best battery performance?
thoughts? opinions? experiences?
any input would be greatly appreciated!
Myn is good and so is HTC kernel 10. Good battery life and extremely stable. I've had tethering on so my friend at work can check the football scores. Gps enabled, I've been browsing web all day. Talking on the phone via Bluetooth. And it went off charger at 6: 30 to 8:00 so roughly 14 hrs of battery life. I'd say that's pretty good cosidering how heavily used it was. also setcpu will drain the living pizz out of your battery and the tweak makes it worse...

Hey guys, I'm just wondering, after reading around the forum, it seems the general concensus is that using setcpu with a havs kernel is not recommended and that it is recommmended for use on no havs kernels. Thus my question is, for better battery life, is a havs kernal such as netarchy's bfs with havs or netarchy's with nohavs +setcpu the best for battery life?
Sorry if i missed something or my facts are wrong. Thanks in advance.
It really depends on your phone. Every kernel works differently on different phones. However, the BEST battery life (to my knowledge/experiments) can be obtained using noHAVS and the Collin battery tweak. It essentially does all the work for you (instead of tweaking SetCPU). However, Netarchy is pretty much a boss and ALL of his kernels are written so that your battery life will be awesome. It's really about trial and error with your specific phone
alright sweet, thanks for the reply

after trying to get decent battery life for a long time using SetCPU and Juice Defender combined with other kernels I have finally ditched both of them for the Netarchy more aggressive superior battery charging 4.2.2 v2 kernel with HAVS. I have never been more satisfied with my battery life (well on the Evo that is lol).

Yeah, my phone doesn't like the 4.2.2 builds for some reason However, the 4.1.9 noHAVS and the battery tweak go together like white and rice
Hey all, I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a kernel that is good for battery life. I am running the stable release of CM7 and I have the OEM extended battery (came with the phone when I bought it) and I currently can get about 1.5 days of moderate use (wifi turned on whenever available, frequent twitter/facebook/foursquare updates, heavy texting/emailing and moderate web browsing) but I am always open to new options for improved battery life.
The kernel I have now is underclocked by about half and I find that helps a lot (if I remember correctly, it is the stock kernel).
Best kernel in my opinion for AOSP is Tiamat: http://tiamat-aosp.com
I am somewhat new to the non-stock rom/kernel game but have the latest version of incredikernel with CM7 stable and really like the combo so far
The stock CM7 kernel had lower wifi performance for me with Incredikernel it is back where it should be

Agreed. Incredikernel FTW.
Flash the lower voltages to get even better battery life. If your phone can take them without rebooting often then you'll get a significant increase in battery life while maintaining the same CPU power.
2.6.37.6-incredikernel is working phenomenally for me
Incredikernel is the best I've found on any aosp rom. Awesome battery life.

Curious, is there a guide or instructions on how to flash the lower voltages. I've checked out Chad's thread and it confuses me.
Incredikernel FTW
I went with Incredikernel. So far so good, it's been off the charger for about 13-14 hours now and it's at 82% battery. Wifi and GPS both turned on with a decent amount of texting/email checking and a little web browsing. It is underclocked about half way with SetCPU and still very snappy and responsive. Definitely happier with my phone than ever before.
Incredikernel is what my friend uses and he loves it.
Also wanted to add I have heard good things about Tiamat as well, another one you couldnt go wrong with.
I need opinions, anyone?
I keep flashing different ROMS and the battery has always had bad life
I've done a lot of different methods to fix battery life issues, but no go.
Having good luck with Swagged Out Stock.

A lot of people say AOSP ROMs are good on battery life cuz the sense is gone.
Try out Xplod RLS (one of my favs) test it out see how it goes for you. It's an AOSP btw.
For sense I recommend Tommytomatoes Classic v0.0.0.4 its awesome!
How long does your battery last? Are you running mobile data all day? GPS?
I can get around 20-24 hours put of my battery with real heavy usage. Around 2 days with normal use.
I keep my 3g and everything off until i need it.
HTC EVO 4G running Mikg 2.58
Don't know who your talkin too but I'll reply lol
On Classic I'm gettin roughly about 1d 19h 43m with pretty decent usage text, call, xda, browsing jus putting it to charge right now
I have always had the best success with AOSP and custom kernel.
Currently running ICSmod7 with latest tiamets. With 4g it drops fast but without I get through a full day no worries medium use. Text, fb, music during workout ect...

Getting good battery life with MikG 2.61.
mikg rom to me is best for battery life .and very stable rom and clean so try and let us know .im running miui and battery life is pretty good but not as good as my mikg rom
sense-free
I've been experimenting with ROMs and kernels for the last 18 months, always looking for best battery life with regular to heavy use. A good custom kernel will sometimes give you an extra 10-15 %. Using setCPU or another app like systemtuner (my pref) to turn CPU down while screen off can also give you 5-10%. Far and away the best thing for my battery is to use an alternative launcher (ADW for me) and then use Titanium backup pro or systemtuner to freeze sense. you just find the two elements in the process list that start with "HTC sense" and freeze them. Night and day. FYI I run synergy and have always come back to Myn's ROMs cause they are good for battery from the start, but they also take well to pretty much any custom kernel, which isn't true for all ROMs. I like everything to work so I always ditch AOSP ROMs a few days after trying them.

Underclocking your CPU typically causes higher battery drain... unless you're overclocking. As long as nothing is really hammering the CPU in the background (which is the problem, not the CPU speed!), then it's better to let the CPU enter higher power states in order to finish the work quicker and return to low power sleep state. Intel calls this HUGI (Hurry Up and Get Idle). Overclocking can have bad effects with HUGI due to the higher voltage required to run at those frequencies. Lol'd at your AOSP comment though. I suppose some people are okay with subpar android, aka sense .
My Evo can last a week on a single charge. CM7.1, 1850 mAh aftermarket battery (slim, stock battery cover), Tiamat 4.1.0 kernel, aggressive undervolting and monitoring of wakelocks combined with 90% wifi usage (3g is the #1 source of battery drain!).

maybe a dumb question. What is the difference between underclocking and undervolting?

Underclocking is when you set the speed of the processor to a lower setting than the stock clocks where as undervolting is lowering the voltage needed to run it at a certain speed be it stock underclocked or overclocked. Simplest way I understand it.

Real culprit for batt issues
Has anyone ever bothered to understand that theres a pesty bug no one knew of.. Called CIQ "carrier IQ"
Ya this is one of the main reasons behind bad batt.. Sprint and other carriers allow a company to monitor and chart everything we do and it mirrors off txts and data sent and is designed to pick up on.key words... Basically an Invasive tracking monitor. It's a huge in noticed drain... And its been shown to be removed from system/app in many custom roms. But it never does cause its so strattled throughout the OS.

"no one knew of" are you kidding me? Carrier IQ has been known about for at least a year now... and no, it's not responsible for any significant amount of battery drain...

Dude you have a serious problem I honestly think you need to quit thinking people are attacking you this is the 3rd time I've seen you in a thread that I'm in and not once have I seen you post anything good or helpful I honestly think you should refrain from posting that's my opinion only cause I think your on a kid level and you really can't carry an easy conversation with someone sometimes I wonder if you even have this phone and if your trolling EVO Forum instead of the Transformer Forum.

Right. So a friend of my friend made me root his phone a while back and I threw mikg 2.52 on it and all was good. Now the guy contacted me today and said his battery life was in the crapper and wants me to change it to something more battery life favored since he isn't by a charger for a long time throughout the day. And since I have been using the new ics roms and jumping back and forth often I don't really know what to give him now.
So what's your opinions? I need something stable as a rock and best battery possible. I need this to last him a while since I almost never see this guy... Haha
P.s. I know people hate these kind of post. Just bear with me here because I'm meeting this guy tomorrow morning and have to know what I should flash for him. Also no aosp please.

You could have him try the one in your sig. It gave me great battery life when I used it, but as always, YMMV. You really have to try them out and see which gives the best battery life for you.
Also could try apps like Juice Defender or similar that aim to optimize battery life.
The only rom i can think of that ive used that doesnt drain your battery would be cm7 or decks gb. Ive used it myself & ive seen good battery life even with my cpu overclocked.
Does it work on viper rom? V2 redline? Thanks! Please let me know
I have the latest MIUI by Swiper, and since 2.2.6, my battery life has been phenomenal with Tiamat kernel 4.1.0, Car-O-Dope tweaks and Vipermod -50.
Phenomenal as in comes off the charger at 6AM and when I get home from work at 5, it's still over 80%

I can confirm this.. ALthough I use 2.3.2 b1 and 3.3.7 sbc kernel as I had some reboot issues with 4.1.0 but yeah.. I'm still at 100 percent at 11:00 am (work at 8).. come home and still at 90. go to bed and hit the charger right above 80. It's unreal.. I consider myself a heavy user too... email, sms, phone calls... etc.
I am currently using Swiper's 2.3.2 b1 with 3.3.7 sbc and have not run into any issues. Battery life is great with this combination for me. Also, keep in mind that I do not run many widgets except an calendar agenda widget.
Myn's Warm series rom's always gave me the best battery life.
i use energy sense 3.5 rom with anthrax kernel. iv had decent battery life w it. about 14 hours or so w moderate use and in and out of roam looking for signal. from what iv read CM7 and MIUI roms are much better with battery life than sense roms. they also seem to be more customizable.

80% at night with heavy use throughout the entire day? I can't believe that. Screenshot? If someone else can validate this, I might try the rom with LEE kernel.

He did mention no AOSP (although AOSP really does have the best battery life IMHO)
Koni's Elite Series III combined with netarchy-toastmod HAVS-less had decent battery life, only issue is that was a Froyo build.
kluster1999: I agree, pic would be awesome.
I don't mean to sound rude, but different ROM and kernel combinations can only make so much of a difference. I'm skeptical of claims of amazing battery life with heavy usage because in the end, the battery is still the same size and the large screen still draws a lot of power.
Been having great Battery life with "The Exress" using" Lionfish more" kernnal and smurfed out....
