For some unknown reason, my USB port on my EVO has decided to stop working. It charges perfectly, when connected to either my PC or wall charger. The port is in perfect condition, no issues with the pins, I have tried multiple USB cables, and personally use the provided HTC cable. I have also plugged my phone into multiple computers, all resulting in the same issue, I have even flashed PSFreedom recovery on to my phone, and tried jailbreaking my PS3, that doesn't even recognize my phone. Bottom line the issue is the phone
As far as my phone goes, I have full root with NAND unlocked, S-Off. I had been running CM6 with snap 7.6, for a long time, until the terrible battery life was too much to bear. I have since flashed BakedSnack, a stock rooted 2.2, and CM6.1 RC1, with multiple kernels, all leaving me in the same position.
I have tried Calkulins USB fix multiple times, I have reflashed my radios as well to no avail. I have updated hboot, multiple times, originally (when problem started) I was on 0.73.2000, later upgraded to 0.76.2000, tried 0.79.0000, and even 0.93.0000, with no luck from any of them. I should also take this time to mention that I receive the same message, USB device not recognized, even in hboot, and in recovery.
I have reflashed my misc partition, to hopefully fix the issue, and still it did not. I have flashed the 2.2 root PC31IM.IMG, still with no luck, and have essentially rerooted my phone.
At this point I have crossed many possibilities off the list. It is not the cable, my computer, my Rom, my kernel, hboot, my misc partition, and not likely the USB port as the phone recognizes that theres a usb cord attached to the PC (on certain Roms/kernels only). For example, with stock CM6, nothing, phone doesn't even recognize USB, with CM6 and Snap (Any version) the phone recognizes the USB is connected and offers USB Storage.
I Suppose one of these things could still be the issue, maybe the misc partition isn't taking my flash. I have flashed multiple times though with the appearance of success. The only thing I haven't done is flash the update.zip fix for the HTC Desire at MaDaCo, which would be a terrible idea in the first place.
I'm running out of ideas, and would really appreciate any help on the matter at this point.
Thank you in advance,
Sincerely,
DoManOfFuture

Hi, I have reflashed my ROM I dont know how many times. Yesterday I tried to connect via activesync on a new ROM and it wouldnt connect. These are some of the things that happened:
Device orange charging light flashes a few times then goes off [never seen THAT before]
Activesyc menu comes up on device but activesync doesnt connect
Get 'this device can perform faster' message on desktop
Sometimes get USB devce not recognized on desktop
SOmetimes device orange charging light it stays on if I plug direct into PC but still doesnt activesync
I have tried to connect as DISK DRIVE but I dont see the device on my PC.
Have tried different ROMS, 6.5, 6.51, sense 2.1 and 2.5 but all have same issue. Have also tried connecting to other computers. same issue.
Have played around with USB to PC menu options (enable / diable faster data sync etc) but doesnt make a difference.
Anyone had this problems? Thoughts?
Have you tried diselecting "ask me 1st about usb connection type when I connect the device to the pc" under USB to PC settings
It worked for me
This is the exact problem I am facing!
I tried everything - as diskdrive, activesync (with/without speedup), etc.
On many ROMs, even the original one (WM6.1)
Can't connect - every PC gives an 'unknown device' and on some ROMs I cannot charge via USB, only via mains...
I also tried without the question on connection.
Just some thoughts:
Do you have corruptions on screen sometimes? (Some graphical glitches)
Any .CAB files you cannot install?
Did you try to reflash the same ROM more than once?
tried to connect without card in the device and in flight mode? (Uses less power)
With me it started after a ROM flash from Miri... (I don't blame him!!)
The Hard SPL did not give me any problem, the radio was not flashed, just the OS. But reverting did not help.
I certainly hope you will find a solution, since I have the exact same problem!!
Do you stil know what ROM you flashed when this problem occured?
I reverted to original ROM 6.1 AND 6.5 which included everything - boot, radio, os, stardup image. But it did not change!
I figured it out after trying everything i could: i think its a hardware problem. I have dropped my devicetoo many times, or plugged it in too many times. Who knows.

And how did you figured it out? Did you return the device to the shop?
I have this exact same issue except I am on AthineOS... I thought it was my PC until I read these posts. No OS updates or any other machine updates were performed except on my device. Any clues as to a fix?
Somehow I don't think this is just hardware.
I did drop my device once, but that was even before first flash. After that it still worked.
So, some weeks later I HSPLed without any problem. After that the device still worked.
Then, after investigating which ROM to use I flashed the ROM a few days later.
Right after the first flash it all still worked. So, had to flash another and from that moment on the device cannot be reckognised by any PC.
I still think it has something to do with the flashing. I think the device does not give correct feedback when it receives some commands from PC (eg. the command to reply the device type/number)
Does anyone know a program which can check the USB port for the HTC Touch Pro 2? Just to test wheather the connector pins are ok?
download activesync 4.5 and run the setup. it will perform a repair. that usually solves the problem. if not, try a different usb cable and try plugging into different ports on your pc.

These are the first things done. And this was already written in here.
It happens with many PCs, including some on which the device never connected to.
Also tried different cables, ports, etc.
Also disabled the fast transfer etc. etc.
Even tried several other ROMs, inclusding original Dutch 6.1 and Dutch 6.5
I'm having the same issue. I can connect via bluetooth, but not usb. And I'm stuck with 6.1. I was tole my phone was brand new, but now I'm starting to think otherwise.

Some questions, to verify this is due to flashing or is a fault in the design of the device...
- Where did you get the device?
- Have you flashed the device?
- Did you accidentally drop the device?
hi just to say had a completely orignal o2 xda orbit 1 flashed with new rom everything worked perfect before now active sync plays up i can sometimes connect but get usb device not reconigsed then click cross then pull out usb then reinsert then active sync connects works fully functional then after 5 min it disconects this is driving me mad as use active sync for a fast internet connection on my pda as my wifi is crap
I've tried rebooting, wiped cache and Dalvik, pulled the battery and no success. This recently started happening. Running:
MYN RLS5
NetArchy 4.3.1-bfs-havs w/sbc
Rev 0003
Also rebooted pc and tried a different USB port and still no luck. I'm unable to upload any files because of this. Any suggestions? Oh this all occurs when plugging into a PC. The other weird thing is that it thinks it's plugged into AC when plugged into a USB port.

Flash your rom again, it will probably fix it. I had the exact opposite problem if you can believe it. Every time I plugged in it would automatically mount the SD card for file transfer, even though the screen had popped up and I selected charge only. Reflashing my rom at the time cleared it up.
What happens when you pull down the notification menu and click the charging button? Is the button even there, or does the options menu not come up when you click it?
I had the same thing happen same rom 2 days ago still doesnt work on my windows 7 I tried on my old computer and it worked "old computer is windows xp"
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You can also make sure "pc syncronization" is running. If you have it disabled or have removed it you will get this problem. Not saying this is the problem you are having just something to check.

Did you try going into menu/settings/connect to PC & seeing if "Ask me" is checked or not?

Thanks....reflashing the ROM after doing a factory reset did the trick!

Just for future reference, the problem you're talking about here was probably due to Doubletwist or Winamp. Both have options that will cause it to mount regardless of what you choose in the prompt. I think they default to off normally, but you might have turned it on by mistake. I did that with Winamp once and it drove me nuts until I figured out what was doing it.
I spoke too soon. I flashed everything 1 at a time, ROM, then, kernel, then themes; did a wipe cache and dalvik wipe everytime. It was working last night and now I get to work today and it's not. I've even tried in recovery mode (clockwork) to mount the USB, but nothing happens. This is getting to be frustrating now. Only thing different is the cables; the cable at home is a cheap dollarstore cable which works with no problems and the cable here at work is from a blackberry which has been working fine. I've even rebooted my desktop which is running WinXP. Any suggestions? Not running winAMP or doubletwist as they suck.
I also get a strange error when wiping cache:
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
Any idea what this is or means?
I have no idea what the error means, but here's what I'd do.
Flash things one at a time and give it a few hours to see if it'll still work. Full wipe, flash rom. See if it stops working. Then do the same with the kernel, then with each individual theme piece you flash. Something you're flashing is screwing with the USB part of the device. Once you flash something and the USB doesn't work, don't flash that anymore and let it's dev know so s/he can fix it.
The troubleshooting process is often a long and ridiculous, but figuring out the problem will feel so much better.
I plugged into a co-workers PC and the phone was recognized right away. This narrows it down to problem with my desktop PC. I am using a 4-port USB hub on my desk which has been working flawlessly with this phone and others. I did have my pc swapped out last week, so maybe the usb port is bad on the PC.
I changed usb ports that the hub was plugged into on the pc and low and behold, the phone is being recognized again! Now I just need to figure out what that weird error is when I wipe cache:
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
It sounds like the 2 data connections on the port you were using must be shorted together, or at least not connecting. If it thinks it's connected to AC, as you mentioned earlier, it won't present the connection options. There are also some cables that are designed for charging only and have those pins shorted in the cable, but it sounds like you got it working on another computer with the same cable. That would lead me to suspect the port. Does anything else work when you plug it in that port?
Rooted about 10 days back. Unrevoked 3.32. Has been working fine.
Was trying to do appinventor. I couldn't get it to detect under PC. Then tried to see it just as an E:\ drive. Tried USB debugging setting both checked and unchecked. "Connect to pc" set to disk and to ask on each connect.
So tried the drivers again,
Tried HTC sync 2.40,
Tried the 3.0 even though it's for other versions of HTC phones.
Tried the Hboot android custom driver which worked the 1st time. Made sure to remove drivers from prior installs with pnputil -f -d. Still won't detect and show up as a mass storage device.
Tried freezing sd related apps and re-enabling the sprint apps that I'd frozen. Disabled no-lock, watchdog, juice defender and app2sd in case they had an effect.
Still not working on usb.
So drop into bootloader. Hboot 2.10, S-off
I go into to bootloader both via quickboot or via power/vol down. On hboot after the flicker of checks it goes to hboot usb, but never shows hboot usb plug.
I've tried 2 cables, Different ports. 30 second battery pull.
Do have a 1st nandroid.
Stock rom, removed sprint apps via titanium backup pro. Have a copy of the applist saved. Have a few titanium backups.
I do have a question before I start down the path of hard resets, factory resets, titanium restores, app restores or unrooting .I'd suspect OS is confused somewhere since it charges on usb. But it doesn't detect usb either in bootloader?
Could it be a bad evo usb plug? I've read about this as an Evo issue. It charges but never connects. Another unrooted evo in the house does show as a mass storage device using these same cables.
Do I restore, reset etc?
Do I unroot via the sdcard and go see sprint? I downloaded pc36img for the 3.70.651 that I could restore via clockworkmod.
I did see some references to copying flash_image to fix usb that won't detect.
What have I left out?
Now realize I may have USB-Brick condition.
Will start reading that trail tomorrow.
This sounds very similar to a problem i had a while back. I rooted, put on a fresh ROM, and then i wanted to update my radios. So i flash the radios, reboot and it gets stuck at the htc screen. I pull the battery and put it back in and now the phone is stuck in a permanent boot loop and even worse its not being detected by usb. So my only option was hboot, in which my battery died while researching the problem. Now the phone wont do anything, so i had to order a spare battery charger from amazon. Which took 5 days!....So i get my battery charged...i put my sdcard in my digital picture frame to access my sdcard and flashed my radios and ROM by renaming them to PC36IMG.zip......Put the sdcard back in phone, fired it up in hboot, flashed the two zips separately and my usb worked again
this could of been something wierd with my hard reset and could have nothing to do with the radios but its worth a shot.
Hello, XDA-Experts!
I encounter a problem with my desire HD and looking for any help I can get.
Since about one week my Phone is not recognized when connected to a PC.
I am using the phone since December 2010 and it works well since then. It's S-Off and Radio S-Off. In the moment, I am using CoreDroid 4.9 with Radio 26.06.04.06_M. Before I was using the ARHD ROM for some time.
The problem occurs on 3 different PC's with 3 different operating systems (Server 2003, Win 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, Win XP Pro SP3, all of them used to recognize the phone before). Windows never recognizes the phone now, android (in most cases) recognizes the connection an asks for the connection mode. The phone is ALWAYS charging over USB.
What I tried so far, after searching in different forums and via Google:
- Rebooting the phone
- Removing the phone's battery
- Booted in fastboot - no USB connection
- Tried a different USB cable
- Changed the USB ports at pc (without hub, no other USB-devices connected)
- Flashing other ROM (tried CM and MIUI, with full wipe/factory reset)
- Checked the USB-connector in the phone with an electronic microscope - all contacts look fine
I am running out of ideas, the only thing I couldn't try, is another radio, because I don't know how to flash without pc. But I don't think, the problem is related to the radio...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your device manager shows anything when you connect it to your pc?Debugging mode is enabled?
Device Manager shows nothing. Debugging Mode is enabled.
I went through a similar problem a while back - took ages to resolve it - in my case the problem was the usb cables I was using - I had tried a few - but its possible to get cables that only charge and dont communicate - eventually i got it fixed by using a new original cable.
Might not be this for you but it certainly helped me
No fix that I know of...
I had this problem...
I tried different computers, different SD cards, I could take the sd card out and put it in a usb holder and that would work fine, so it really wasn't the sd card. I tried different usb cables too.... nothing would work.
I spoke to my carrier (Orange) to see if they could sort out the problem, and they went through their 'script' of diagnostics and came to the conclusion that it was my computer drivers and there was nothing wrong with the phone!!!
I then rang HTC and after several phones calls later, they said that they would repair it, unfortunately that would have left me without a phone for 2 weeks, so I rang Orange again to demand that they replaced the phone! I told them that HTC had said it was a fault and they sent out a replacement Luckily I had not rooted it at this point, so it was easy for me to swap it.
The replacement phone came the next day, and like magic, worked fine when I connected it to my computer (the same one that apparently had faulty drivers!!)
So, I never found a fix for this, but managed to get a replacement! hopefully you will be able to sort something out...
Good luck
I had this problem once and it turned out to be kernel related, but I'm not sure if this would apply in your case since you've flashed a few ROMs and still have the issue. Still, might be worth trying one of Apache's Buzz kernels or LeeDrOiD's latest... if only to rule out another possibility.
does your PC recognize it if you mount the SD in recovery?
if not, it should be the cable
I had the same thing, I went crazy, and somebody told me to use another cable
and worked
Same happened to me.
Seems the phone crashed the USB controller or something on the PC.
A reboot of the PC fixed it for me (I dont see you mention that anywhere).
First of all, thanks a lot for all your replies!
As I said before, I tried 2 different cables, that both worked fine before. But after your replies I tried a third, new one - same result.
The card is recognized fine by windows when I put it in a USB-Card Adapter.
What I forgot to mention in my initial post, is, that I also formatted the card in my pc, put it back in the phone and started the phone new - same result.
I will try some other kernels now. B.t.w., has anyone a solution for flashing the radio without pc? Via terminal, or recovery? As this is one of the few things, that I couldn't try yet.
I'm 99% sure radio wont be a factor in this mate as they only deal with mobile connections, eg GSM/3G, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS. If the problem is software and not hardware then I think it will be with the Android USB gadget driver, which is in the kernel. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Can you mount as usb in CWM?
No, that doesn't work either.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
1) Try reinstall HTC driver on your windows and try again.
2) If it failed, backup all your files on sd card via USB-Card Adapter. Then use SD Formatter 3.0 (google it) to format the sd card. Copy the backup files back to SD card and try mount the usb again.
HELP i got the same problem
I use the phone in the last 6 months; I have S-OFF, clockworks custom recovery and rooted stock HTC 2.2 Froyo. The only change I made last week is purchasing a desktop cradle "stand". I tested the stand several times the last week and I was able to access the SD card & the HTC sync modes successfully.
Now when I connect the phone using stand or any other USB cable including the original HTC; nothing happened on the computer! The USB manager activates and brings up the USB connection type menu. However, nothing recognized by PC.
I tried all things that you can expect (another PC, another cable, factory reset, new room, with/without cradle) nothing happened, even I connected the phone on a new PC it didn’t detect the new driver!
What to do now??
Hi,
Not sure if you have already, but you can try the new HTC sync version 3.0.5557 - It's actually for the HTC flyer tablet, but i installed it and it works perfectly for the DHD.
You might have a driver issue, but the new 3.0 sync comes with new windows drivers so maybe it's worth a shot.
I've checked the HTC Flyer support page but there's no link there for the 3.0 Synch ... I could only find a direct link, here below
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1097&news_id=923
Be sure to un-install the previous HTC sync first
Its not a driver issue, I tried the new sync. Not working. Nothing is working with USB only the charger.
I have a feeling that electrostatic damaged my USB. I remembered last week I touch the phone while charging and a one electrostatic click was strong.
help!!

hey I have same problem... :-/
what's the solution ?? plz tell me
same problem
please help
Alright to start I had some previous issues with this phone unable to charge. Which I am hoping the case isn't I destroyed USB input. But for starters I have a EVO Revolutionary Supersonic S-Off. Recently rooted very fresh noob. And I installed my first ROM MIUI with an iPhone theme I was unable to connect to my computer I quickly realized. I restored my phone and tried to connect as such but no good. I even went into recovery and mounted my USB storage under my Clockwork Mod Recovery. Still no change. Before I rooted my phone I had some minor difficulties with mount my phone via USB just to even charge, But as I plugged my phone in today I am not able to mount storage however I am able to charge my phone with no problems whatsoever. I am current installing CyanogenMod I believe 7.2.0 to see a if there is a change. So am I able to install a missing driver or anything of that sort on my phone or am I facing a physical issue?
Try using a different USB Cable. Alos try to make sure it's a real HTC USB Cable. The knock-offs sometimes cause issues like this. The other thing you should do is Update your HTC Sync Drivers. You can download them HERE. Make sure you read before you download, so that you do not download the wrong thing . Also go into Menu - Settings - Applications - Development. Make sure USB debugging is checked.
I used 2 USB cables that I had laying around. One is a cable that originally came with the phone the other is Samsung. And I'd have to revert back to stock in order to get those updates? And if I do would I be able to go back to my Cyanogen Mod 7.1 I installed 7.2 and it had major flaws in its ability to access the playstore.
just as a side note the usb port is known to break on the evo. it did on mine
Ive also had a broken USB port on my Samsung intercept I believe it was.
