CM6.1 is so fast and the battery life is amazing. But something that's really bugging me is that I keep having to restart LauncherPro maybe 2 or 3 times a day because it just becomes so slow and unresponsive.
I'm not sure what's triggering it but it seems to be pretty random. I've messed with LP's memory settings, etc and have overclocked, underclocked, with SetCPU and nothing seems to fix it. Using the kernel that came with 6.1.
Anyone know of a fix, or experience the same problem?
I have always had LP restart itself randomly throughout the day. Do you have CM set to keep the home app in memory? Maybe it has a leak somewhere.
Yeah, I'm used to LP restarting itself, it's done that with every ROM I've ever used. But with CM6.1 I have to manually do it to get rid of the god-awful lagginess.
I'll check that home app setting. Maybe that's it.
So I think I figured out the culprit. I use an app called SMS Popup in conjunction with the stock MMS for messaging. Whenever I reply via SMS Popup LauncherPro gets all slow and laggy and I have to restart it.
Wonder why this could be? Anyone know of any other SMS pop apps I could try? Don't want to use handcent or chomp - I like stock and think they're too bloated.

Oh, damn. I was about to suggest Handcent because it is fantastic.
I use Handcent when I use Sense-based ROMs but when I'm on CM I just love the stock messaging - it's so quick end efficient. Only wish Android had a built-in popup for sms.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen any of these 2 issues with their tilt 2. One of them is a problem, the other may just be normal.
1. Text messaging - Text messaging, as i've learned to deal with on all the winmo phones i've owned is sluggish. But this particular problem I haven't seen before. The problem is when I close out a text message and the screen goes back to the inbox. The screen freezes for a few seconds (sometimes longer than others) before I can do anything else. It's really annoying. I have attached screenshots of this. I know it's frozen because the top of the screen has not redrawn, as you can see in the screenshot.
2. It seems that there must be a memory leak somewhere as my memory usage keeps increasing, yet no programs are open or running. I have attached a screen shot of the task manager as well. As you can see it's at 86% and nothing is open.
If you have experienced this and know of a way to fix either of these, please share. By the way, i'm using a stock ROM. Thanks everyone for your help.
Normally the stock ROM´s are full of crappy apps installed by the cell providers.
Normally I reflash inmediately to a cooked ROM from the great Chefs we have here at XDA!
Those ROM¨s nomrally perform better, of course it affects the apps installed by you at the end
Has anybody experienced the text messaging issue in any of the cooked ROMS?
maybe

i have an at&t branded tp2 and i am running an older leo from ngrz28 (thanks by the way) and yes i stay between 59% lowest i've ever seen and 84% with nothing open. i is probably cuz the good cooks from xda shoved an elephant of a rom (really made for snapdragon prosseser with twice the speed) into the tp2 (minus all the bloatware and other crud). oh well do a lot of reading and try a few different roms to find the right one for you. good luck bro.
Thanks for the replies!
Well, it looks like I may have found a solution to both of my problems. I figured out how to get rid of the text messaging issue...for the most part. I figured out that if I leave text messaging running, once all my conversations are opened once, the lag isn't there when I close out a conversation. This lag happened to me constantly because I have my phone set to close programs completely when I tap the "X" (as opposed to minimizing...I do it so I don't end up with 10 different programs running and crashing my phone). I figured out that if I just minimize text messaging and never close it out, the lag isn't there. Must be a caching thing or something with the sms conversations.
As far as the memory issue goes I gave spb mobile shell a shot and installed the trial version. So far my memory usage has stayed at about 69%. Looks like tf3d is a memory hog.
Anyways, thanks for the replies and hopefully this information helps someone.

Memory usage / leaks depend a lot on your ROM built
I found out the same for SMS. However opening / closing a contact in the contact list takes even longer than the SMS issue and for this I havent found any solution yet
Try disabling XT9 and all the other Xt9 and predictive word settings.
This worked for me when Landscape mode and typing emails..
Has anyone noticed the stock Messages app has some glitches in it now. Specifically, I've found 2:
1. If I'm typing a text, about 50% of the time, the screen will suddenly jump to the very top of the conversation list. This also removes the window you are typing in and stops you typing. So if you have around 200 messages in that particular conversation, it can be quite irritating to have to start flicking back down to continue.
2. This one is less frequent but I'm now sure it exists. When I tap on a particular conversation from the main list, occasionally I get taken to a completely different name/conversation. I used to go back to the main list to see if I mis-tapped, but the conversation it went to wasn't even close.
I've now gone to Handcent because of the irritation, but I'm wondering if it was only me that saw this?
i have the first problem too... very frustrating but i like the stock sms application because its so simple... tried chomp sms and handset 2 months ago and went back to stock app because i couldnt search in greek to add a contact (i dont know if it has been fixed)...
non rooted desire with froyo
yep, got these problems too, however I'm not on stock froyo, NeoPhyTe 5.0. I have also noticed another problem, whenevery I'm scrolling through the widget, sometimes all messages seem to be from one contact, even though they're not! weird, but then I let it reload and all seems fine
I bought my G2 just a few hours ago and just updated to the newest version of 2.2 for it, to get wifi calling and fix bugs, and immediately after i noticed my messaging app tweaks out every time I open my physical keyboard.
It deselect's the typing box for the message and starts scrolling and highlighting through my entire conversation, and highlighting the send button, it will do this two or three times in a row at times..
Any one else got this problem?
I do not (nor have not) seen or heard of this problem before. Then again, there aren't many of us who use the the stock messaging app on the stock G2.
It sounds like a software problem though. What I'd do is start with a factory reset. If that doesn't work, then try downloading a 3rd party app like ChompSMS or Handscent and see if the keyboard does it with those. If it does, then there's something wrong with your phone and you should try to take it back to get an unbugged one. If it doesn't, then there's something wrong with the messaging app itself and you can either stick with a 3rd party messaging app...or take the phone back lol.
Hope one of these solutions help.
A buddy that has a Droid Incredible on official 2.2 is having issues with the notification bar/tray and the standard messaging app.
He says that when a text or email notification comes up and he attempts to open it via the tray, the screen flashes as if it was going to open those apps but it just goes right back to the tray. Is there a update available?
The messaging app seems to crash very often. He has a few thousand messages, could that be the issue?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance, cheers.
i am on stock froyo and am having a similar issue. if i get a text notification and i press it, it will flash like it is about to go to the messaging app, but it just stays on the notification tray.
It is not that big of a problem for me though because it only happens occasionally and when it does all you have to do is move the tray up and the messaging up is there open to whatever the notification was for. I have never had the messaging app force close however.

Thanks for the relpy ericDylan.
I havent found too much either on any other forum I check. If I do come across something Ill post it here for you.
Good luck
Cheers.
Did he do a factory reset after upgrading to 2.2? There is often a lot of stale configuration left over in that upgrade.
What is default setting for this option on HTC One V, was it on default or what
Standard Limit!

my experience has been either tgis function does not work at all or as i understood it to be. for instance in stock or modified, updated sense it just does nothing and only force killing an app makes it terminate and comes right back. similar experience in other non sense roms with feature. i use system tuner to remove apps from startup that are not essential and use kill app with back button available in roms that have the feature. the app terminates and does not restart until i restart it and i always kill it versus simply exiting the app.
