Hello all,
I just S-OFFed my desire, and installed a rom (cyanogenmod 6.1.0-RC1).
I asked to phone to reboot in recovery, i don't even remember why, and now, i have no "blue" recovery.
Usually, i start the phone holding back button, when the /!\ show up, i press volume down + power, to get a "blue recovery" then i ask to apply sdcard:update.zip to get the green recovery.
Actually, i don't have any blue recovery, i can't do anything, i don't know why and and i don't know what to do the get my desire working again (right now, the rom really does not matter !)
Fastboot usb is working, but i can't find an up to date post that help me restoring the blue recovery ...
I appreciate any advice, thank you
EDIT: after few hours of research, answering myself, used
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img to get a recovery working again.

Hello all,
currently running Modaco's rooted official fro-yo update (free version, not kitchen)
so yes i am already root.
i have a hboot 0.83 desire with the SLCD screens. i have used the patched image and used unrevoked method to root as modaco's method would not work.
i have 2 problems and any information would be grateful.
1)recovery issue
while holding down vol down + power and then selecting recovery to boot into recovery sometimes i will get into clockwork recovery and other times the phone will just hang on a white htc screen (not the black one when using wrong recovery!)
it is lucky when i do get to boot into recovery using this method.
i have tried connecting up the desire to the pc and running unrevoked again (using ubuntu 10.04) to try load the recovery menu again. same results though. sometimes i may get lucky and it will boot into recovery. a lot of the times it will just hang on a white htc screen for ages and not boot into recovery. this is frustrating when i try to change roms.
for example im having an issue with this current rom so i flash leedroid. all respect to him his rom is good. but i think its loaded with a lot of apps which i dont require.so i require to boot into recovery and adb remove the applications from the system partition and the data partition.
2)problem with modaco's rom
maybe not the right place to post this and i would receive better help at modacos website.
never the less someone maybe able to help me.
flash player doesnt seem to work at all on this.i visit the flash player site. it will usually tell you and show you a flash movie to say flash is installed or if not will tell you to download and install, in this situation pointing to market.
at this stage when it points to market i get a message saying "item not found"
so this means i dont have access the the full market for this device.
i could on the other hand unzip leedroids great rom and remove all the apps that i'm not intrested, resign and flash, but again i have issues with recovery.
any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Hey,
There's quite a few people having the same issues.. some say it's because of LeeDroid ROM that's causing the issues, others say it's not. I for one am having the same issue only after I flashed LeeDroid. Since then I've flashed Open Desire and still having the smae issue.. never had the issue when I originally flashed Cyanogen.
However, someone noted that when booting into recovery.. do not touch any buttons or press anything until AFTER the SD check is complete. I tried this method.. and Clockwork Recovery loaded up just fine. It's not a corrupted image issue because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.. there's some sort of conflict somewhere.. that's my guess.
have you tried perma flashing a recovery using Unrevoked?
Thanks for the replies guys.
@Quazis
intresting that you mentioned leedroid. i too had flashed that and to think of it i bleieve i've had problems since then when i wanted to revert to modaco's 2.2 official fro-yo release.
thanks for a reply to the matter. when i boot pressing volume down and power into the bootloader, then select recovery from there, press power to select and then i do not press any buttons until recovery is installed. but i will try again.
@LennyUK
whats perma flashing?
i have flashed using unrevoked and i have to select a custom recovery image and select the SLCD image.
could you please explain further?
i have also tried to redo this process when booting into recovery failed using other attempts.
thanks for your help guys
i may create a gold card and flash the generic RUU with hboot 0.83 onto the vodafone branded desire and then unrevoke that in an attempt to fix the problem
hi guys,
hallo to everybody, greats job here!
I'm just wondering witch is the right recovery image to use with unrevoked 3.1, I tried to use the default one and when I go into recovery mode my screen become black and I must to remove the battery before going on.
someone can please help me?

Well with Unrevoked once used you boot holding volume down and power
It then opens the HBOOT screen, wait for it to do its weird loading thing then select "recovery" using volume keys and hit the power button, the phone should then say "HTC" and should then proceed to boot into your recovery (I use Amon-Ra this way and then clockworkmod if I need it via rom manager).
I have not had any issues getting into recovery this way at all.

Hi Lenny,
thanks a lot for your answer!
...my problem is that when I do the procedure you've written:
- root by unrevoked
- holding volume down and power
- waiting till SD checks
- select Recovery by power button
...I can see the HTC screen and after that everything is black, the phone power off by itself and I cannot see any Recovery Menu. Than I must to remove my battery to be able to use again the phone.
I've tried once with clockworkmod recovery image and once with Amon-Ra but nothing change... I really don't know how to going on!
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
thanks a lot!

Miniera,
I think you have the SLCD version of the phone. If you're using the stock image, it won't work cause that's for AMOLED screens.
If you goto the Desire development section, there's a tutorial in there how to root SLCD version of the Desire with HBOOT 0.83. See what you can find in there and I'm sure you can get it to work
Or re-use Unrevoked, it has the SCLD compatible version of clockwork now.

me too lol
i will try unrevoked again (for linux) and see if this looses my recovery screen blank or not. if it does i will flash the SLCD.img version again.
again could someone explain what prema flashing is please? lol
well just flashed
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-froyo-pre-rooted-no-hboot-with-radio-deodex/
and everything works fine. except the recovery issue caused by the leedroid rom.
it took me 15 attempts to boot into recovery
got there and flashed this. and everything flies. sadly i had to reboot as i wanted to adb push some files from another build into this and well it took me a further 7 attempts to boot into recovery.
wish there was a fix for this

flash using the SLCD clockworkmod.img file found in the 0.83 hboot root guide in the development section. you will then see the menu
Just to update if anyone else reads. flashed the WWE 2.1 T2 for hboot 0.83 on and then re-rooted. fixed the problem and roots into recovery every time.
leedroid blames on bad nand sectors. i doubt a new desire will come with such a defect. but im not going to insult his work because its good, maybe not for me but its still damn good!
in the end ive solved my problem
Hey guys, hoping someone can answer this because it's kind of a dire situation... but I was flashing a new updated Rom to my phone, specifically Blackout ICS INCREDIBLE V.3.1.0 and when using the aroma installer that comes with it from rrecovery, i decided not to do a full wipe because i already have blackout v3.0 so i thought it would just update the rom like usual. Anyways my problem is when i turn it on, after the HTC logo it just goes to a black screen and will not boot. Normally if I have a bad flash I just boot up the recovery but heres the catch... my volume down button doesn't really work.. fml
Is there a way to possibly adb push my phone without recovery? Because i cant get into recovery by holding power+down
See point 6 of this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605720
You should be able to boot a recovery.img stored on your pc using fastboot if you can run fastboot commands from where you are.
Edit: easier method - if you can run fastboot commands then run fastboot reboot -bootloader. Use the vol plus key to navigate hboot.
Maybe a silly question but as the post below suggests have you tried pressing vol - really hard?
I had the same issue today and my dhd also has a damaged downbutton.
Anyway i removed the cover on the battery slot and clicked it only in the upper part to get the contact, after that i overpushed the downbutton and bootloader showed up!
Hope this could help u or someone!
I have unlocked my bootloader then install the recovery.
And I am flashing a ROM ,but as I came from Atrix the step was to flash from recovery
I didn't read the instruction and flash the ROM through recovery without flashing boot.img first
Now, I can't boot to my ROM (It stuck at HTC quietly brilliant screen)
So, I reboot it and try to enter fastboot ,but not either. I can't get to fastboot. pressing volume down and power
Then, I was unable to turn it off. I disassemble and take the battery out. and charge it for an hour now. But, still no luck can't get to fastboot.
Anyone can help me.
I am so dumb if I have read the instruction, I wouldn't brick.
I don't know what pure doing wrong, but holding down power and volume down will get you to hboot. From there you can go to fastboot and then flash the boot.img.
Not even hboot too. press volume - and power doesn't do anything for me. or do they need more battery?
Then you're doing it wrong or your buttons are broken.
Keep hold of volume even after it reboots. Don't let go until you're in hboot.
When I first installed custom ROM I made the same mistake and didn't flash boot.img separately, causing the device to just hang at HTC screen you described, or being in a constant bootloop. However I was able to get into bootloader and sort things out. I know it's something basic, but are you making sure you hold that volume down + power button long enough?
Oh GOD! I got it! It boot into hboot and I can fastboot now. I think the button are hard to press so, I can't press it correctly the first time. THANKS
Hi everyone...
Complete ageing newbie here so please be gentle.
I've just been given a HTC Desire that can't seem to get past the boot screen.
By doing a bit of research, here's what I know about the phone. The bootloader has been unlocked and it's been rooted. It also has a ROM called MildWild installed I believe.
I have manged to access recovery mode and it says it is running ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
If I attempt to activate any of the options in recovery, i.e. 'wipe cache partition', I get taken to a screen showing half an orange circle wearing a top hat if that means anything to anyone.
It doesn't actually do anything else from this point and if I press the power button it just takes me back to the list of options to reboot, apply update from sdcard etc.
That's about as much as I can tell you I'm afraid and was wondering if anyone could help me to get the phone working again.
Many thanks in advance.
I
When using that recovery, press the middle button to select options not the power button.
If you are s-off, I recommend you flash 4EXT recovery touch via fastboot, it's better overall.
Use bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of q&a to get it booting again. You may simply need to full wipe and flash a new ROM. Check hboot and sdcard partition requirements foot each ROM first.
Ok,
Was installing the viper rom on my M8, and for some reason, now my phone is stuck in a boot loop. Obviously the install went pear shaped. But now I cant even boot the phone into recovery mode.
Boot sequence now is: Google lettering appears on screen, followed by green android with the blue spinning shape in its chest, then the green android with the red triangle and black exclamation mark appears and the whole thing loops again.
When plugged into the PC its not recognized so I cant use adb to boot into recovery or try load another rom/wipe cache etc.
I've tried all combinations of power button & volume up/down to break the boot sequence, no joy.
Any ideas how to resolve, or do I have a very expensive paper-weight?
Cheers,
sombaht
Rest assured, if the screen comes on, the phone isn't bricked.
Red triangle with exclamation point is stock recovery.
What was your exact sequence, in detail? From bootloader unlock, install custom recovery, etc.
Was the phone on Lollipop when you unlocked the bootloader?
To reboot into bootloader (not recovery, there is no button sequence to boot directly into recovery on this device):
1) Hold power and vol up for several seconds to force a reboot
2) The moment the screen goes black to reboot, let go of the buttons, and only hold vol down
3) Don't let go of vol down until you are on the bootloader screen
4) Failure to get into bootloader is virtually always user error. You either started pressing vol down too late, or let go of it too early. Just repeat until you get it right.
But from there, as mentioned it sounds like you are on stock recovery. You will probably need to flash TWRP again via fastboot in order to do much more.
Did you flash a custom recovery before you flashed the rom?? Can you boot in the bootloader mode (turn of Device completely- turn on again and hold volume down all the time.. then you should be in the bootloader)?
And your phone is not really bricked
Edit: damn to slow should not write on the phone

My friend, did you flash it using stock recovery or custom recovery? if you did flash it using stock recovery you will meet this kind of problems. I suggest you try power button and down if im not mistaken and go to hboot and fastboot usb and connect to adb, type fastboot devices in cmd if it detects your device then you can flash TWRP , find any kind of custom rom for M8 and flash it. I also assume your bootloader is unlocked and driver is installed in your PC.
Problem solved. Redpoint73's key press combination worked!
Cheers,
