We already have those. Fat free froyo, my barebones builds and lastly I think there is a 1.6 donut build out there thats cut down but I am not certain. So they already do exist. If your applications are crashing with 2.2 it could very well be a kernel issue. What kernel are you using?

I would say this is a good idea apart from it's so easy to modify the androidinstall.tar before installing anyway so a guide showing how to do this would be much more usefull then using up bandwidth uploading the same build with a couple of apk applications removed. As long as you have 7-zip editing the build is as easy as :
1) Extracting the system folder from the androidinstall.tar
2) Navigate to the /app folder in the /system folder you have just extracted
3) Delete or add the apk's you don't need / need
4) Right click on the /system folder and compress to a 'tar' archive with 7-zip
5) Rename the archive androidinstall.tar and install like normal.
*Obviously this is only easily possible with un-odexed builds but you can odex again once it is installed anyway

infact even if its still in the .tar you can right click on it and open archive and mess with it from there

Even the standard builds will fit easily on your kaiser. If your using 2.6.25 then any of the non-cyanogenmod roms will work fine. I'd suggest giving fat-free froyo a go if you want a minimalist build.

[DUMP] /system

If you already have this phone in hand, could you do a favor and drop me some files from /system, namely the video player and any other files/apks possible... RootExplorer might do the job, no root required (at least not on my phone).
Trying to port some apps/drivers, but since i dont own this phone - its proving to be difficult =)
Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Thanks to jimbob343 for /system dump. Hopefully with no objections, here it is:

Well... This sucks...
I have downloaded it four times. I have tried WinRar and 7zip and both give the same error messages for all downloads: Unsupported compression method.
I downloaded the Framework and it opened up just fine.
Can someone post a separate d/l link for the dump? Maybe, on another service? Then I'll try again.
@frifox - thanks for your quick replies. Can't imagine what the issue is. MY IS provider has three data transfer rate plans and I'm on the third (second fastest of the four). And, it appeared to d/l pretty quick with no issues/interruptions.
might be good idea to try upgrading 7zip to the latest one... i used the max compression rate when packing the dump.
I'm using 4.65... Are you using the 9.15 beta?

How do you dive into Android development?

For example how do you make programs that do 1-click rooting, or modify the official ROM such that it does not update HBOOT, or make mods for it? What programming languages do you have to know? What system environment (Windows, Linux, etc.) do you have to be running?

data/app is where you can put user-removable and other apps you want seperate from the system/app in a custom rom - has to be added to the rom itself like A2SD does.

Oh okay. So before trying my hands at developing a ROM I should try writing some apps first?
Edit: But my ROM Manager has a "Move to SD Card" button, which means it should be in /data/app?
Bump. Then do I need to be on a Linux environment? Any gurus can give some pointers to a newbie to the Android scene?
being on linux would be easier - knowledge of the OS would be better.
If you use Linux you can use dsixda's kitchen to sign and build the rom after youve finished adding removing, editing etc. It's going to be a case of trial and error, but you cant break the phone as long as you're using a rooted/su rom, without the HBOOT or radio in it. You might get a bootloop/freeze, or 57 force closes but you can always re-flash.
Say i wanted to remove certain preinstalled apps from the official Froyo ROM, how would i know which files to delete from the zip?

If you have never had ANY programming experience before I would reccomend learning another language first, before trying to learn Java. Try vb.net if you have Windows, learn that and you get the gist of how to programme, then install Linux Ubuntu or another distro, familiarize yourself with the Terminal command line, then go on to learn Java, then the Android SDK, then make some apps, then learn how to modify roms etc. The last thing you want is a bricked phone

[ROM][11/11/10][G2/DZ] NO SENSE: 1.22.531.8 HTC Vision Stock with Online Kitchen (r1)

I'm pleased to present my repack of the stock ROM for the HTC Vision! READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE YOU START! No, really, it contains everything you need to know.
Remember that if you use this ROM, you do so entirely at your own risk!!
About MoDaCo stock ROM repacks
Unlike a MCR (MoDaCo Custom ROM) release, a stock ROM repack is as close to the stock ROM as possible. Only root / Superuser and an insecure boot image is added. The benefits of the repack are providing a rollback option in update zip format as well as providing an online kitchen to remove parts that are not required.
A MCR release of this ROM is also available!
Requirements
In order to use this ROM on your device, you must have a custom recovery image installed (Clockwork Mod).
THIS ROM SHOULD RUN ON BOTH THE G2 AND THE DESIRE Z!
Features
Repack of the 1.22.531.8 (OTA) ROM
Pre-rooted with su and Superuser Permissions by ChainsDD
Insecure boot image (ro.secure=0)
Changelog
Please see the post below this one for the changes in each release.
Installation
To install this ROM:
Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and copy to your SD card
Restart your device in recovery mode
PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU
Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to your memory card
Upgrading
No wipe is explicitly required in order to use this ROM (unless you are coming from a 'Sense' ROM), however if you do encounter issues of any kind, it is recommended that you wipe your device and reproduce the issue before raising it here.
Downloads
This ROM is now available in the online kitchen - see the post below for details! In addition to the kitchen, a prebaked download is available.

Pual, I for the life of me can't seem to get this overclocked. I should be able to overclock this using the steps in the link below correct? Oh, and by the way I love the rom. I used baconbit, which was great until i found out I couldn't use my extended battery on it.

I've done a total wipe and installed your rom and my app with titanium. Here's the link.
I've put the ota ko file in the root of the my sd. And ran the attached .sh files in gscript, but all i get is errors.
Edit: nevermind I see that the OP to the overclocking post no longer supports it. I guess ill have to go with the new kernal and hope it works with extended batteries. Thanks for reading.

[Q] Difference Between Toro/Maguro Roms

Hello,
I am learning about rom development, and want some information about porting a rom from one version of the Nexus to another. There are a couple roms that are on the GSM Nexus that I would like to see on the Verizon Nexus. Where can I find documentation on what the differences are between the same rom running on both versions of the phone? Is this just the binaries found on the Google Developer page, or is there more that would be required for porting from maguro to toro?
There's more to it. There's some lib files that might be needed in order for some stuff to work properly. But its real easy tho. Make sure the ROM u want to port is the same android version. So for example u want to port a 4.2.1 ROM make sure your base ROM is also a 4.2.1 like cm 10.1. Then u just copy some files from one ROM to another. So u go into your ROM that u want to port and u open it with 7zip go to system folder and copy app fonts framework and media folder and copy them to your base ROM. Then u go into the lib folder and copy libandroid_runtime.so and paste that into system lib folder of your base. Then it should work. That would be the basic way of doing it. As far as building from source I can't help u there lol. Good luck.

Ok, how do I know which lib files I need? Is there somewhere I can go that says this file does this, this file does that? For example if the camera doesnt work, or if sound doesnt work, how do I know which files are needed for those?
Also, why copy the app fonts framework and the media folder?

Because the framework folder has all the mods from the ROM. As far as camera u don't have to worry about that since they are both the same phone. The only lib file u need to change is the one I mentioned. That's the one that usually will give u a problem booting up. But that's what I was told u need to change and it works.

Is there a place that documents what all of these files do? I am trying to go a couple levels deeper than just "Do it because it works". I am hoping to find a place that will explain why, so I can track down bugs when they pop up.

I see. I'm not to that level yet. Try Google search or maybe even YouTube see if u find something. I do know u will need knowledge on how to use adb so u can do logcats when errors occur. Good luck man.

Alright, I got the rom to boot, but I am not getting any signal or wifi. What files do I need to get these working? I want specifics, not copy over all files in a single folder, because I dont want to lose any of the customization already in the rom.
I once ported a version of minco to Toro before there was an official version. I figured out which files to swap by comparing file by file two roms - one maguro one Toro. Any file that was divergent file size got swapped except systemui.apk and frameworkres.apk. I used two bugless beast roms as a base. It worked perfectly.

There are hardly any differences. I looked at it a lot when the jelly bean developer preview was released for gsm devices and I 'ported' it for toro. I had a list of the differences, but apparently lost it. I want to say that there are only 10-15 differences. The way I found out what the main differences were was by comparing the same build of CM for toro and maguro using Beyond Compare using a binary comparison. Some files may be different, but if you compare the bits directly...you can sometimes see it's only a build date/time and not a real difference.
edit 1 - To try to answer some of your questions, try libsec-ril_lte.so and libsecril-client.so (and the apn stuff listed below) for signal AND bcmdhd.cal and bcm4330.hcd for wifi. For camera, I think I remember fRom being needed. For GPS, you'll want sirfgps.conf, gps.omap4.so, gps.conf, and lib_gsd4t.so from toro.
edit 2 - Ahhh, I found a post where I listed the difference between maguro and toro that I found (it may not be all inclusive, but it should give you a good start!). These were from the CM roms, so toro factory images have a couple more things like MyVerizon.apk, VerizonSSO.apk, VZWBackupAssistant.apk, and libmotricity.so (needed for VerizonSSO.apk).
Code:
\system\app\BIP.apk
\system\app\RTN.apk
\system\app\VZWAPNLib.apk
\system\app\VZWAPNService.apk
\system\etc\gps.conf
\system\etc\permissions\android.hardware.telephony.cdma.xml
\system\etc\permissions\com.vzw.vzwapnlib.xml
\system\etc\permissions\com.vzw.hardware.lte.xml
\system\etc\permissions\com.vzw.hardware.ehrpd.xml
\system\etc\wifi\bcmdhd.cal
\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
\system\etc\NOTICE.html.gz
\system\lib\hw\gps.omap4.so
\system\lib\lib_gsd4t.so
\system\vendor\etc\sirfgps.conf
\system\vendor\firmware\bcm4330.hcd
\system\vendor\lib\libsec-ril_lte.so
Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. I do have one more question. How is a power menu (hold power button to get reboot, recovery, hotboot, etc..) added to a rom?

You have to modify the android policy jar in framework from code. There is a modded jar in the apps and themes forum, or you could try and lift the file or of your favorite custom ROM, like cyanogenmod.

Glad to see you have some initiative! If you want the .smali edits for the advanced power menu, I have attached a .zip containing the comparison of the mod for my 4.2.1 stock AOSP rom. You need to add the 3 GlobalActions$11xx.smali files (in the attached .zip) to \smali\com\android\internal\policy\impl when you decompile your android.policy.jar with apktool. The 2 .pdf's show the smali edits to the 2 files that need modified. There are just a few lines added/changed. The changes for GlobalActions.smali are on page 19 of the .pdf. If you need a working apktool for 4.2.1, you can get one the I compiled using paulobrein's patch HERE.
I'm glad to see people helping a fellow who whats to turn user-to-dev.

[Updater-script]TBO-Black/Clear Gapps on STOCK PARTITION (dedicated to CARBON)

Hi
let me share my updater-script you have to replace in this BIG TBO-Black-Gapps-5.1-arm-2015-05-30.zip if you want it on STOCK PIT SYSTEM Partition.
my purpose is to use /data/tbo_gapps/ folder to push many apks from GAPPS BIG zip and symlink them to their proper place on /system/ partition , so we can use black gapps tbo monster package (maybe clear if i have time to adapt) on our device without re-partitioning our space on our precious
its better to use my script if you are flashing a rom for 1rst time on your device, like a new proper flash, then you will not have some gapps coming from another flash/rom. Dont know actualy how to come back from my flash, just have a look at my updater-script before use and you can understand what to do.
MAKE A NANDROID OF YOUR ACTUAL SYSTEM INSTALL BEFORE USE.
i tried it 3 time, restoring only /data 2 time to try again the flash rom+tbo_mod (no need to restore system because i reflash rom + tbo modified and system has been formatted each time as you know)
i can just share some pic to proof my result here
download my updater-script (no .extention , REMOVE .pdf before use and all other char rename it like : updater-script) in attachments and replace in TBO-Black-Gapps-5.1-arm-2015-05-30.zip original if you have downloaded it before and stucked on it when you tried to install it.
i used the last CARBON LP build from @Myself5 so this JOB is dedicated to his future release
thanks.
Nice work mate
Keep up the good work @Troubadour666. I don't know why gapps are not using /data more already. This will give our S2 and other older devices a longer life.
BIG MISTAKE OF MY PART, please download it again, i change the attachment in OP.
sory.
worked on DU from @arnab
For a good use , if you want to reflash the TBO_GAPPS you have modified with my script, please reflash the rom too before. i think its the better way till i found what i have to change to make it "run at any use"
thanks.
will provide a link for TBO 02/06/2015 too.
Done in OP. just download it, remove .pdf at end of file, replace in DU_TBO_GAPPS_CLEAR_6-2.zip or DU_TBO_GAPPS_6-2.zip.
copy on card (ext/int).
(always make a nandroid before use my tool)
then, reflash your rom + your new TBO modifyied by my updater-script and with your stock PIT, you will be able to use BLACKOUTED/Clear gapps
thanks.
about cleaner
i will provide a revert back tool from mu stuff if necessary. as i said, dont know the consequence when you will update your rom . maybe it will be necessary to reflash my updated "tbo_gapps" egain after new release of your rom. lets wait and see in my case, i wait for Carbon update or DU too. The next rom i will try will receive the updater-script i will modify from TBO if new version again .
thanks to any followers of my tryies
WORK with 11-06-2015 tbo

GAPPS relocate script-Mini Howto/Re Worded
Always refer back to OP = Original Post first page. OK.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...dater-script-tbo-black-gapps-5-1-arm-t3126566
IMPORTANT! Always ( Nandroid/backup anyway you want ) before Test/Changing any thing!
TIP: Always work on a COPY of your file/zip/nandroid/doc/image/website/database etc
OK stop bmad! haha. When experimenting/testing/trying something New.
As realise We dont all have big/fast Internet. If we make a mistake.
Just download script file. Then the Gapps linked in OP or Any you want to try/experiment with.
Purpose/Function = Re-Locates GAPPS/apk install path into your ( DATA ) ROM/partitions.
Away from ( /System ) as much as possible!!!
1. Remove .pdf at end of Modified Updater Script file. So No file .ext.
2. Open OR extract the/any Gapps.zip with 7zip WinDows or Any Linux operating system.
To this path /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script.
Note: You are now looking at the Original script that Google supplies.
You now can copy/cut out of ( GAPPS.zip ) this ORIGINAL updater-script.
3. Copy/put/import @Troubadour666 MODIFIED updater-script into Exactly the same place in GAPPS.zip.
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
You should now have only 1 x updater-script = exactly this name.
4. Close Gapps.zip and Copy/put on/in your Device internal memory easy place to find.
Note: Always Double check!
5. Reboot your Device into Recovery. Then install/flash the Gapps.zip You MODified!
Note: This How To is written in Context of a clean/No previous GAPPS installed. Follow/Read OP instruction to Clean instal. Don,t forget this Detail!
Or you may end with Double GAPPs = Double Problems. haha.
6. Always remember/mention/Thank the people that help you have all this fun/learning. Please.
7. Have fun. Give Respect. Profit!
Regards bmad.
Creds +1 To everybody involved in this Good Concept/change.
Special mention to @Dumber than my Smartphone from getting me Out of my Man-Cave +1

About new version
if any new version from TBO have same UPDATER-SCRIPT like the previous build , you can replace with mine, but you have to compare new and previous updater-script , extract them and compare with Notepad++ for example.
i see now DU_TBO_GAPPS_6-13 version, will download and will report in 4/5h if it the same and if you can replace with mine. If not, i will re-code new version
if anyone have info before me, please , post
thanks.
EDIT 1: Oups, Updater-script i saw from DU_TBO_GAPPS_6-13 is same from DU_TBO_GAPPS_6-11 ---------------------> So, good, you can use mine
Can I replace the updater-script in .zip file using my phone ? Cuz If I extract and then make it .zip again it will not flash , so any recommended app to replace it without extracting the .zip file ?
Or if you can upload the modified gapps [emoji14]
@Dr AM
Sorry hasty/quick reply.
I Open zip then use internal functions of Zip/Archive program to alter GAPPS.zip.
So i dont Extract the GAPPS.zip just edit in realtime.
Hope that makes sense.
Should be plenty Android zip programs Avail? Playstore or I am sure ESFile explore can edit zips.
Let me know how you go.
Cheers bmad.
Hey @Troubadour666,
The more I think about this project of yours the more valuable it appears. In fact I think all the ROM devs should consider putting a link to this project in their OPs to preempt the inevitable questions about bootloops/skinny gapps/repartitioning. Moreover I suspect that trimming the fat from the actual system partition could possibly speed up the ROM operations in general regardless of the room available for extras.
Having said that, I still think the average user like myself might struggle with implementing your solution. @Barry Mad (above) helps to clear up the actual installation process, but I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and I'm still not entirely sure about the actual scripts you posted.
There are two updater-scripts in the OP and you refer to several different gapps packages throughout the ensuing posts. I've downloaded both scripts and looked through them, and they look to me to be by and large very similar - a few notable differences with respect to some specific apps they address and some different layout/style/typesetting if you know what I mean... Do they have explicitly different purposes? Are they meant specifically for different gapps packages? I assume if they were effectively the same there wouldn't need to be two. Meh... maybe it's just me and others have no trouble working it out.
At any rate, I think it's a great idea and it will be a very useful way of addressing google's penchant for filling our phones to the brim with their spyware I mean apps - now and in future iterations of Android, where even newer devices with more room than ours will be methodically outdated by the sheer weight of applications packages thrown at them. I think this idea does much to mitigate that problem and, especially for older devices, it may become a standard flashing practice as gapps keeps getting bigger.
Nice work mate. :good:

I'd try ES File explorer to do it on the device. Or there's some good info about editing scripts in the thread for my gapps (see my sig for link). IIRC there was mention of Mooedit or Medit??? I use WinRAR to extract and rezip on my PC - never had a problem with it not flashing.
I tried once extracting some ROM and then editing some files but after zip it again it just showed me error and didn't flash
But I didn't play with anything related to flashing so I thought I couldn't flash files zipped on mobile , unlike using 7zip on windows I face no problems but I can't use my PC now so wanted to know if I can do it on my mobile
Will try es file explorer and see what'll happen
Hi all.
2 updater-script in attachments.
One is specific for tbo 26/05 release of tbo black/clear
The other with long name can be use in all following release of tbo from june : 02 , 11 and now 13 .
Hope its more clear. I use WINRAR on PC to replace updater-script in any zip i manage/mod.
Glad to ear that my idea do his way day aftet day with some great 'promotor' here

I've seen a lot of people have trouble with extracting/rezipping because they rezip their modified files along with the original zip if you know what I mean. So the zip they just zipped contains the files they modded PLUS the original zip full of the original files.
Of course I'm sure that you're all over it @Dr AM!
More of a heads up for others...

Nope not me [emoji14]
My problem was not because of that , at least 7zip works perfectly for editing .zip files
