Questions about cm6 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I'm new to all of this I've only flashed one rom I'm running fresh 3.4 and I want to try out cm6.
1. Which one should I download from rom manger? 6.0 rc 1? Rc2? Or 6.1 rc1?
2. What are the differnces between cm6 and fresh besides no sense?
3. Does everything work on it besides the 4g?
4. Do I have to backup with rom manager and titanuim to go back to fresh?
I love everything about fresh exept for sense. Will I be happy with cm6?

Anyone???

I use 6.1 rc 1 and it is fantastic...the issues are few, the most significant one is that if you don't use the included adw launcher wallpaper change won't rake effect, although a reboot will fix that....you can't go wrong with cyanogen though..pm if you have any more questions

1. 6.1 RC1. It is fast, stable and has good battery life. I hit a 1675 Quadrant with it today so I am satisfied. Angry Birds plays very smooth as well.
2. Apples to oranges. The differences are too numerous to list.
3. Pretty much.
4. Just do a Nandroid backup.

[Q] Flashing Kernel on top of Cyanogen

Hey guys, I can't seem to find the answer to this question...
I have CM 6.1 ROM on my G2 and I would like to flash pershoots kernel. Do I have to take any steps other than a backup of the ROM? Using rom manager, will it be a fairly smooth transition?
All I did is backup and flash pershoot over cm 6.1 using rom manager without doing anything else and everything is working perfectly fine for me

Also, I've had results vary with the different nightlies I'm using. I wouldn't sweat it if it doesn't work properly right away. That's what the backup is for. Word.
cool, thanks for your input

Recommend me a gingerbread ROM

What's the most stable gingerbread Rom? Also if I nan backup my leeDroid can I restore it on gingerbread?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I recommend CM7 if you like having lots of options or Amethyst if you want something closer to stock gingerbread.
As for your second question, I'm not entirely sure what you mean. You'll have to start fresh on gingerbread, you won't be able to bring your settings. You may be able to restore your apps using titanium backup but I've heard that there are problems when going from Sense to stock.
If you do a nand backup, you can restore it regardless of what your current ROM is, gingerbread or not.
Thanks yes am looking at trying a gingerbread ROM out, but want to keep all my settings with nand backup.

you can't bring your settings over to the new rom. restoring your nand backup of leedroid on any rom will just bring your back to leedroid.
I'm using gingervillian nowadays it seems better than oxygen
ReDux RC6: stable, fast, light on your battery and slim.
how about a gingerbread rom WITH the new sense? any recommendations there?
Where did you see such ROM? Would you guys say it is true that aosp ROMs use more battery than sense ones? I've read it today and wondered how could that be possible?

There is no such Rom. Either sense+froyo or gingerbread.

Gonna have to wait for HTC to release Gingerbread for the Desire (Or desire HD) for the sense version for Gingerbread to be ported. Shouldn't be a short wait tho, It's already febuarary and HTC are usually good with updates, or so I've heard
Go for Redux rc6! it's superfast, stable and has a extreme batterylife (at least for me)
Casting my vote for Redux rc6 as well, have been using this ROM since rc1, looks great and runs really smooth.

I tried the gingervillian rom but it hung on the villianrom boot screen! i'll try Redux now
I've been using GingerVillain for two days now. I like it xD
Been using Gingervillian for a while now, I really like it, getting a much better battery life than i was on sense.
Everything seems to be working.

[Q] VaelPak 3.2 RC2

I just flashed VaelPak 3.2 RC2 and am wondering if anyone else has it?
How do I access the bonuses of rooting and how do I change themes/icons?
I don't use that rom, but did you read through the dev's thread for info and instructions?
We're comin from a pure power source.
I have used VaelPak and it is awesome. I'm not on it currently, however, there is a theme section within Vaelpak's menus, either in the app drawer or in the settings section (i don't recall). Anyway, many of the changes are made without having to go into recovery and flash. He makes it very simple to do. Sorry I couldn't be more definitive in my reply, but as I aforementioned, I'm not using that particular rom right now.
What rooting bonuses are you looking for? There is a VaelPak Settings app in the app drawer and in menu>settings. Either way gets you to the same thing. You'll find all the add-ons and customizations in there.
go to the market and install the Vaelpak forum app
Pretty sure it comes with Forums and Settings apps pre-installed. Market mostly used for updating.

It is awesome in every sense of the word. The detail and care that goes into his rom is like nothing I have ever seen. I have been floored by the performance and sheer beauty of it. I wouldn't even think of going elsewhere.

where did you find RC2 man?
http://vaelek.com/index.php?/topic/843-vaelpak-32-rc-2/
If you go into VaelPak Settings, you should be able to download a flashable zip that will update you from RC1 to RC2, but I would probably recommend just backing up your apps and launcher settings, then wiping and flashing RC2. Vaelek mentioned there was a higher instance of issues when updating vs. flashing clean.

That is correct, a clean install of RC2 works best. I've been rocking it since the night of release and love it.
There's actually a few good reviews of it out right now, here's one for instance. http://therootofallevo.com/2011/04/evo-4g-rom-vaelpak-3-2-rc2/#
If your looking to Change a notification icon go into the vealpak settings then to theme builder choose what mod you want and it will make a flashable zip on your sd card you can flash in recovery

[q] **whats the best rom out today?**

Hey android fam,
ima keep this short and simple.
1. I rooted my htc evo
2. I want to know whats the best rom out there (2.3 with everything working 4g or close to it etc)
3. After i download the rom i want, whats the next step to install it the right way? (i already downloaded "titanium backup" what else do i need?)
thanks
A good starting place,
Try Cyanogenmod, MIUI, Myns Warm, and MikFroyo
I would add Salvage-Mod 1.2.1 to the list mentioned above, specifically with the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel and LauncherPro. It flies on my device and everything works.

If your looking for AOSP try Cyangenmod, Ultimate Droid,
Sense My favorite so far is probably Mikfroyo.....Second Myns warm...third Fresh....
Just flash all of them and just mess around to find out what you might like. a good starting point is to download Rom manager but don't use that program to flash, just use it to download, then boot into recovery and flash manually. Good luck...
If your really wanting to play around you can try flashing different kernels which I am still trying to figure out a good sense kernel to use for mikfroyo. Good luck
Thanks everyone

Personally, I have been running Deck's 2.3.3 GB AOSP ROM. It's fast, stable, and everything works, including 4G. I use Tiamat's 3.3.8 SBC kernel and get great battery life as well. You can find his thread at PPC Geeks. He said when he releases the final version, he'll post it here at XDA.
Deck's GB is def my fav GB ROM. Everything works. The final version (1.0) is releasing today at 6pm est. The main thread is at PPC geeks, but Deck said he would start an official thread here once 1.0 launched.
"Best" -- in this case -- is subjective.

Congrats on rooting. Just remember that rooting isn't everything. It's just like getting an admin or superuser account on a Windows or Linux machine. It gives you the ability to modify system files that you normally can't do as the default user.
You need to make sure that your phone is NAND unlocked and you need to flash an alternate recovery. A recovery is kind of like a boot-disk built into your phone. You can boot into "recovery mode" and flash data to the phone. This is how you install a new ROM. The two big recoveries are Clockwork and AmonRa.
Basically you download a ROM in zip format, put it someplace on your SD card where you can find it, boot into recovery, do a backup (make an image you can restore from if things don't go well) and then format data, cache, dalvik, etc.
Once you have a clean slate, flash the ROM from the zip file on your SD card and wait for it to finish. Reboot and enjoy your new phone! It's like installing a fresh copy of the OS with various modifications.
There is a bit more to it that all that but that is the gist. Once you are familiar with the process it's easy. Before long, you'll be comfortable with reading about a new ROM, making a quick backup and flashing it to check it out. If it is good you keep it, if it sucks you restore your old backup. I go through phases where I like what I have and then the bug will bite me and I try like 2 or 3 ROMs in a week.

Just my 5 cents, but you should get better battery life on 3.3.7, as in 3.3.8, the minimum voltage was raised to help those that flashed the kernel and natively got reboots.

FOR ME:
When I'm in an AOSP mood, it's CyanogenMod. It was the first one I tried and I'm too lazy to adjust to other AOSP roms LOL. I have tried other AOSP roms, but I like the features included in CM and the support he gives.
When I'm in a Sense mood, it's usually Mik roms (MikFroyo, MikZ, MikGinger, etc) because what he does to those roms is nothing short of amazing. Speed, stability, and everything just works. When Myn gets around to releasing his Gingerbread rom that's going to be my DD.

Well if you are looking for 2.3.3 with everything working including 4g and GPS I would recommend CyanogenMod. You battery life might be kinda crappy even with the Tiamat 3.3.8 kernel as compare to a 2.2 rom.
Im a fan of Mikz and Kings is you like sense. They both do amazing work and their custumization is top notch.
I'm running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo (Sense ROM) with the Netarchy 4.3.1 cfs-havs-nosbc kernel and Launcher Pro Plus.
Lightning fast underclocked at 499 mHz awake and 128 mHz with screen off (using SetCPU). Battery life is shocking too with the Seidio 3500 extended battery. Unplugged at 7AM and heavy usage all day (phone calls, texting, email, web surfing, Pandora, etc) it's still around 45-50% at 11PM
Always searching for a better battery kernel though, lol
Jack
Well im on Kings Unleashed R-5 to.the the best rom right now, but im about to try a CM7 cuz people be telling me about the speed and stuff

Sorry, but people claiming everything is working on CM7 for htc evo obviously don't use their cameras. Still shots are not taken at full 8mp at proper aspect ratio. There is also no 720p recording.
Have a look at Elite Series III.It's super fast and has everything working. The theme it comes with is amazing. Proper flash instructions are on that thread and there is nothing else you need to fux with after flashing.

stable rom?

can anyone tell me the most stable rom, wit hall components working with no bugs , glitches or problems etc. i currently have stock on my phone, and have been wanting to upgrade, but although every few days something is released, or a new feature (sense 3) i dont want to install if bugs - i.e. i read in sense 3 the weather doesnt update, so bit pointless installing.
whats the best rom for me? im guessing all roms are cleaned up and sped up.
Start with Seraphics Stock (but rooted) HTC gingerbread. Its the 2.3 update with root access, everything works.
Try Leedroid 3.02 very stable for me and have all u need battery holds nice too.

Depends on what ur looking for, I had the same question a month ago or so and decided to go for the a Revolution rom, by now I never want to go back again. I just flashed the Android Revolution HD 5.1.4, seems stable, fully functional and fast.
Yup, another vote for Android Revolution. Faster, better battery life, and probably more stable than stock My opinion is, don't go for Sense 3 mods, except maybe USB Connection thing. 3.0 Lock screen is pretty much useless like stock one, untill they fully implement features from sense 3 (lock screen apps selection,...).
Make a backup of your stock ROM, and then install ARHD 5.1.4 or LeeDroid 3.0.2, if you don't like it after testing, just restore to your previous state and you're back (with the slow one)
I would go for ARHD i have been using i for quiet a long time now and havent seen a lot of bugs its very fast and easy to use when you come from stock ROM because of no visual chances i would not recommed that you install any of the mods or themes in the first place Hope it helps

using ROM Manager or clockworkmod recovery (ROM Manager is a GUI for CWM-R).
Just hit the backup current ROM.
You should perform a (NAND) backup every time you flash a new ROM etc. just in case something goes wrong.
to try ARHD is a good dission.
It's fast, stable and simply that what you're looking for.
My tip on you: read the quides carefully, you'll have no problems with the flashing.
Try RCMIX if you want sense.
Try CM if you do not want sense.

il add another vote for leedroids 3.0.3 it is very stable and everything works
thank you all, i will try revolution first, as it is downloaded now, then once i have done one i am sure i will be addicted and more happy to try others more often.
ok, thank you everyone, i have installed the rom, it seems faster, and no noticeable problems yet.
I followed the guides found on here. and today saw on another site that it mentions to factory reset and wipe data, and then wipe data again after install, which there was no mention of in guides here.
will this cause a problem? i dont want to reset /wipe data now as just set it up again how i like it.
Rcmix v6 is stable, the new kingdom port 0.2 has too much widgets problem for me.
+1 for leedroid but 3.0.3 with 3.0.4 kernel... Its smothhiie and works perfectly
